Safari (and other browsers) won't open photos or slideshow

I recently re-published my web site last night with a new template. Everything works fine but now when I click on any photos in my gallery I get the following message in Safari:
"Safari can’t open “photos:%20Kates%20Summer_files/slideshow.html?slideIndex=1” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “photos:”.
Same goes for clicking on slideshow. Also won't open with windows browsers - error message says something about finding an s: drive.
Any ideas?

  • When I first start my Safari and other browsers won't load

I recently upgraded to a MacBook Air from my 6 year old MacBook pro.  I moved everything using a TimeMachine backup.  I have been having a problem that when I start the day or return to the computer after having been off it a while, my airport will connect but my Safari will not go to the webpages, it just hangs.  Sometimes this will last until all my mail downloads and then it will work, but this morning and a few other times  I could not get Safari or Firefox to download from the web, even after my mail downloaded, until I restarted the computer, then it they worked fine.  It is like something is hanging up my ability to get pages to download from the web when I first start trying to connect.
Thanks for any help with this,
    KC

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Safari and other browsers won't load?

Heads up: I'm not very computer savvy but, I have a 15" MacBook Pro. Late 2011/Early 2012 I think. Version 10.7.5.
So over the past few weeks ( through Google Chrome), videos online. They load fast, I can click play on a 40 minute video and I don't need to pause for buffereing and loading.
In the middle of one of the videos though, it stops loading and I thought it was just a blip in the internet connection. So I reloaded the page, this time it tages about twice as long to load the video and then stops again. Each time I re-loaded the page the amount that it would download became shorter until it wouldn't play anything at all. I tried in Safari as well, with no luck. I thought it might have been the website, but then I tried youtube, network websites, videos on tumblr, anything I could think of and nothing would load.
The internet connection is fine, because another MacBook pro can connect wirelessly without problems. I've just updated my software, cleared a lot of my memory space on the hardrive, updated flash-player and nothing seems to be working. I follwed a few other answered questions on here such as turning off IPv6 or something along those lines and turning off various things and reconfiguring. It was all confusing to me and they didn't work either...
Now it's gotten to the stage where Safari (as I uninstalled Gogle Chrome to reinstall it) will not let me load random pages, such as the download pages for Google Chrome and Firefox. 4/5 times images won't show on pages that do seem to be working.
When I'm tryign to load a page in Safari, the little blue bar travels across it ust fine and then all of a sudden disappears, but there is stil an x in the navigation bar (as if it's loading) rather then a refresh button.
I'm hoping someone out there could help! If you need any more info on my computer I will dish it up as long as you let me know where to find it.

What you're describing sounds like it could be one of a few things:
    1) It's possible that the wireless card in your computer has something wrong with it.
    2) You've may have some sort of obscure problem with your computer's firmware, and you should resinstall the operating system.
    3) There actually is something wrong with your internet connection.
I know that the 3rd one sounds unlikely, given that your other computer works fine on your internet connection. However, for whatever reason, your internet modem could just be spitting out bandwidth in unequal quantities to each computer. This could also be caused by an inconsistency in your router's QoS settings.
Either way, I would advise that you make an appointment at the Apple store, or some reputable computer repair shop. I think that the most likely of these three problems would be that something is wrong with your wireless card.
    I hope this helps!

If you are getting an 'invalid security code' message then is the address on your iTunes account exactly the same (format and spacing etc) as on your credit card bill : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646 ? If it is then you could try what it says at the bottom of that page :
If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorizations have the correct information on file.
And/or try contacting iTunes support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Express Lane, then iTunes > iTunes Store

If you use Lion, go to Applications/ Mission Control and, if you have more Desktops, as attached, it means you have more, and you must select the one you need for a certain app. If default settings has not changed, this is Control with left / right arrow
If in Snow Leopard and earlier, you have these settings in System Preferences only. In Lion, you also have some settings in Sys Prefs.

  • Appearance of iWeb 2.0.2 pages in Safari and other browsers

I guess this question has been posted several times before because I can't find the relevant search terms to limit the number of answers to a reasonable count. Thus, sorry for the repetition (if so).
Is there a way to amend the appearance problems of iWeb 2.0.2 pages in Safari and other browsers?
    Problems are:
Safari: color management (?) - take a look at this site: http://shivaduo.jan-groh.de - Text and frame were created with exactly the same web safe color (990033), but they differ a lot.
Firefox 2..., IE 6, Camino 1.5, Shiira: no shadows, (some) no reflections, (all) horizontally broken lines in reflections of frames, (Windows) fonts (Trebuchet MS) get changed (worked perfectly before with iWeb 1... on exactly the same computer).
Is there any remedy to this aestheical disaster (which was the main reason for me to switch to iLife '08)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rosember

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Safari ( and other browsers) are slowww!

I am running Safari (2.01) along with system 10.4.2 on my G5 Imac. This computer is networked with 3 others, all are running various browsers (ie,firefox).
Safari web pages on the Imac take forever to load. I thought it might be just Safari, so I used the other browsers loaded on this machine, Firefox and IE. They are slowwww too. The weird thing is that the other 3 machines do not have any slow downs with opening pages! Does anyone have any ideas as to what this problem could be and waht I can do to fix this? Thanks!!

Try removing the router from the system and connect directly from the computer to the modem via ethernet. I had the same problem (all browsers slow on only one of my computers - download speed okay, but loading sites very slow), and doing that showed me the issue was with the router. I reset the router to default settings and it is now working normally.

  • Safari (and other browsers) very slow loading "content rich" web pages

    Hi,
I'm a very "light" user of my mac, using it basically for surfing the web, uploading pictures and music, etc... and recently any web page that has a lot of content (examples are nfl.com, nba.com, nhl.com, mlb.com, united.com, continental.com) takes a very long time to load (most other web pages load normally). Safari (and Firefox as well) gets to the web page in an instant, but then sits there trying to load content (mostly high res pictures and ads I suppose), which sometimes takes minutes or just never fully downloads the content. I'm connected to the internet via ethernet (high speed cable modem from Time Warner), and they've already come out and verified that everything on their end is fine. I've followed the instructions posted on some of the other similar posts (emptying cache, deleting cookies, disenabling add on's, reseting safari, logging in as another user, etc..), and this has not helped. Since this problem is persistent with both browsers, I'm wondering if this may be an OS issue as opposed to a browser issue. If someone can walk me through a solution (keep in mind that I'm a novice), that would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    HI and welcome....

    Could be.
Since the problems exist with multiple browsers, login to another user account on your Mac. Try Safari there. If you see the same behavior with Safari there, then follow the instructions here. You will need your install disc. The startup disk may need repairing. Even if Safari is ok in another account, it's still a good idea to check the startup disk. That way you can rule that out.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free space.

  • After current OS update, safari and app store won't open

Safari, App store, iTunes store won't open after OS 10.8.2 update

if your iMac is from 2007 or newer i would recommend to install Yosemite, download it from app store, put it on an external HD then copy the file to the applications folder of the iMac you want to install it, and just double click on the installer and follow the steps.... this work for me... i hope it helps!

  • Safari (- or other browsers) won't load specific websites

    Hello folks,
So here’s the deal: I can’t seem to load several specific websites. Some pages point-blank refuse to load, while others (like Facebook, Instagram, Google) work just fine or take a very long time to load (youtube vids buffer a lot). I’ve already tried several things, like flushing my DNS cache, adding google public DNS-servers (used: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), using different browsers (firefox nor safari works), making sure parental control is off and firewall is disabled, removing all my website data in Safari’s preferences, rebooting my router, resetting the wifi routers' time zone (someone else recommended this), restarting my wifi connection (which seems to have effect for like a second- though it’s loading very slowly- and then it goes back to refusing loading the page.) When using a proxy all pages load just fine.
I also did run a ping-test for one of them:
    PING archiveofourown.org (208.85.241.152): 56 data bytes
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 0
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 1
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 2
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 3
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 4
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 5
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 6
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 7
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 8
    --- archiveofourown.org ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100.0% packet loss
Entering 208.85.241.152 in my browser didn’t do the trick either..
    Printscreen (just a blank page):
I’m really lost and hope someone might help me. Thank you in advance!

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.

  • IMac Safari and App Store won't open...

My mom came to me with a problem she is having with her iMac. When she clicks on safari it won't open but the top menu bar fades. I tried to open App Store to check for updates and it does the same thing. Firefox and iTunes still work. I tried rebooting and it didn't help. She is running Maverick. I tried reloading an earlier backup from time machine and that didn't work either...PLEASE HELP! Thanks, George.

  • Safari (and other browsers) hanging

Hey guys - been having this problem all weekend and hoping the wisdom of crowds on here can assist...
Safari has been giving me the spinning beach ball of death all weekend when navigating to sites which usually have no issues. I have to force quit everytime and also tried to open same said sites in different browsers (Opera, Chrome, Camino) and same issues - hangs and need force quiting.
I've cleared out the com.apple.Safari.plist and gone into the input managers and plugins and removed them one by one to see if that changes anything - it doesn't...
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance for your time.

    Hi,
Please click My Settings on the right side of this page and tell us which Mac you have and which Mac OS X it's running. Trouble shooting differs between PowerPC and Intel based Macs as well as Tiger / Leopard / Snow Leopard. Your forum profile makes it much easier to assist you. Thanks!
If you could post a crash log that would also help. Two ways to do this. Open Safari. When it quits, select "report". The Crash Report wil appear. Copy/paste the entire crash report to your reply here.
Or, How to locate a crash log:
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
    3. Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog:
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
    4. Click the Go button.
    5. Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks like the most recent.
*"Safari has been giving me the spinning beach ball of death all weekend when navigating to sites which usually have no issues."*
If you can go to Safari/Preferrences - Autofill. Click the Edit button to the right of: Other Forms
Delete the site names you are visiting *that usually have no issues*. Relaunch Safari and try navigating to one of those sites.
If you can't access Safari/Preferences then go to ~/Library/Cookies and move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.

  • IMessage, Facetime, Software update, Appstore and other apps won't open

    Hi,
I've been struggling on this for a few weeks now. I rarely open this apps thats why it's only now I flag a question.
So every time I open iMsg, Facetime, PhotoBoot, Software update, App Store, Calendar, Reminders, FontBook and Terminal, it will just bounce for a few times on the dock and will not open.
The apps that open are: iPhoto, Garageband and Notes
I already googled this and it seems that I'm not the only one.
The solutions that I get are the Disk Utility permission and the resetting the fontbook. I tried the Disk Utility Permission but didn't work. The fontbook won't open so I can't do that trick. Also ther terminal won't open. I also deleted the files in the Preferences folder but no luck.
I don't have the DVD or the disk that comes with this mac so is there any other ways that can help me resolve this problem other than taking it to the shop?
    I'm using a MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2012
    2.9Ghz Intel Core i7 and 8GB emory
    OS X 10.9

Anyone wants to help me out?

  • Safari and Other Browsers Not Working in one account

The account that I use mostly, a standard account, has suddenly lost all web browser function, and I'm not aware of having changed anything recently.
When I try using Safari in the Admin Account it works fine (except for some reason I can't login to my .mac account either, I'm posting this from yet another standard account, which works fine as well). I've tried switching the standard account with the issue to an admin, but get the same results.
The results are that Safari (and any other browser) says it cannot find the server of the website I'm looking for.
I've also tried unplugging our router and plugging it back in to restart it without success.
Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Ok, I have not tried that yet, but before I do, I have a newly discovered wrinkle for you-
I have found that I can browse in the bad account with Safari and Camino (and I suppose anything else), but only if I am going to "secure" pages, that is pages that begin with "https" rather than "http".
Incidentally, thanks for the help on the previous post. That may be what I eventually try.
Does this new detail shed any light on the problem?
