Safari doesn't work in one account but works in another.

I have an interesting problem. I downloaded the 3.1.1. update (no problems), installed it (no problems) and restarted (no problem). After restart went to launch Safari but with no luck. It would simply freeze and not start up. Logged into another account on the same machine and lo and behold it worked fine. Could someone help me find a solution to this as it has become very frustrating. Have tried to reinstall, delete Safari, restart and the reinstall. All to no avail. Still works on the other accounts. Thanks.

It might be a file(s) in your InputManagers folders and/or a SIMBL file.
Try the following:
Quit Safari.
Drag the 'InputManagers' folder out of the Library.
HD/Users/yourhome/Library/InputManagers <- +(if you have one here)+
If you have a 'SIMBL' folder in the 'Application Support' folders move it out.
Also, remove any third-party Safari add-ons from the 'Application Support' folder.
HD/Users/yourhome/Library/Application Support
Remove any files from your 'Internet Plug-Ins' folder.
HD/Users/yourhome/Library/Internet Plug-Ins

  • Can't video chat with a buddie using one account but can using another

    One buddie dosen't show up in my buddie list and I don't show up in hers when I use one AIM account, but when I switch to another AIM account I have, we both show up in the list and we can video chat. We were able to chat without a problem, until the last chat where I sent a few images. Did we mess something up? I have absolutley no problems using my problem account with any other buddies.

  • Safari will not open in one account, but will in others.

    The problem started my Imac G5 (OSX 10.4.7) hung up while I was in Safari; I turned computer off. I have not been able to start Safari in that account since.

  • Can't open attachments on one account but can in another. Something within the one account not functioning?

    When I click to down load the attachment in one of my Yahoo accounts, the box telling me a virus scan runs and finishes showing "Scanning is complete and no viruses were detected" then i click the Continue button which simply disappears and nothing else happens.
    If I forward the same email to another Yahoo account and go through same procedure, the attachment opens and I can Save it or Open it, which seems to indicate the problem is lying within my account . . . but where?

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

    I have 2 accounts in Thunderbird. In one of them the new messages show up in bold, in the other they do not. How can I fix this?

    Restart Thunderbird with your add ons disabled and see if things improve. This can be done from the Help Menu.
    If this fixes things, start turning each add on back on until you find the troublemaker.

  • Safari works fine in one account, but not another

    In one account ONLY, Safari doesn't work. I get a "can't connect to internet" error message. In that same account, email works fine, so I know I am connected. Tried emptying Safari folders, re-setting Safari, and downloading the latest Safari. Nothing helps.
    Any suggestions?

    The usual remedy for "can't connect to Internet" is to add DNS numbers to the Network panel.
    Go to System Preferences>Network. Select your connection, then select "advanced". In the DNS panel add these codes:
    If you live in the United States: 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2
    Outside the US: 208.67.222.220 and 208.67.220.222
    Select "OK", then select "apply".
    Restart Safari.

    Before you try to configure the settings on your Router, first thing which you need to do is, Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable...

    My mom's computer is a 2007 macbook, we do not have a startup disk.  I was trying to upgrade her Mac osx, but now her safari doesn't work.   I couldn't update safari unless i updated software.  Her safari was disabling her email through hotmail--also recently updated.

    when i say download the software from the Apple's website i mean download the software update for mac os x 10.3.9
    as once you reinstall panther again it will revise back to the original version of the OS which came along with the computer when you purchased which will cause safari to be incompatible with
    so once you do a software update for you operating system it will get it compatible with safari
    so to get the update you can download it from the computer you have it burn the update on a CD or DVD and then install it on this computer

    just click on the link above to get to the page then click on the number 117mb on the upper right hand corner
    once you have downloaded it burn it to a disc and install it on your computer

    I don't know about Growl as I've never used it. But I'd remove anything that might involve your internet connection. To remove Growl: http://growl.info/documentation/growl-package-removal.php
    In my earlier post I asked do you have any Anti Virus software installed?
    Do you have access to another computer so you could download another browser, perhaps onto a USB stick and then install it on your Mac just to see if the problem is Safari specific:

    Hello ! I have the same problem ... more or less. The Safari we have on one of the MacBooks' here doesn't work any longer. That happened after I both downloaded and installed the updated for Safari two weeks ago or so- and (simultaneously) ran an application called "MacKeeper". Maybe that was the "bug"? ... because after that Safari collapsed, but nothing else. I tried to reset all on Safari, copied even manually all preferences of Safari from another MacBook that worked onto mine, but no chance. Safari is blank when I try to open it, nothing happens, except from making the rest of my MacBook also work slow. Now I have to use Firefox, that works, but I don't want to use this browser, I would like to have Safari back.
    My question is the same: Is there at all a chance to fix this problem? Any advice from you guys out there is highly appreciated!

    Wipe the drive clean and install Snow Leopard from your install disk.
    Might be less work fixing Safari. Try Resetting Safari.

    2 – inspector became unusefull in some manners and few weeks there is now way but use alternative browser to work
    BTW some controls on websites (eg SHOPIFY), based on JS doesnt work properly.
    To solve a lot of problems now as never before I use chrome.

    Then tell Apple, this a user to user forum, although I don't think Apple will update just for your problem as hardly anybody is experiencing the same issue, just a couple on this troubleshooting forum.

    Please don't use all caps, it is considered shouting. No this may well not be an ebay problem, but it is not a Safari issue either, it is an issue on your Safari and on your computer. Everyone I know has no trouble with ebay at all. In fact Safari 4.0.4 has made it even faster to log in and browse, buy etc.

    Again, tell Apple, not us, through the Apple feedback page or file a bug report. They will update Safari if and when they decide, but it will not be to fix what is not broken.

    I agree, as stated before that some sites are just lazy in updating their coding, usually not the high traffic sites though. Other sites only update their code for Windows IE and forget the rest of the world. Firefox, Opera, Camino etc. also can't access some sites.
    So in conclusion, try Safari and OSX maintenance and if that fails, then try an archive and install. Because there is nothing wrong with Safari 4.0.4 and ebay, or else this forum would be inundated with thousands upon thousands of users complaining and that is not the case.
