Safari guest user logon can view fox news videos, admin can't, videos run fine in Crome

Not sure what to do...Admin user won't run Foxnews videos whereas Guest user will run Foxnews videos. Have read many posts on checking flash, etc. Been there done that... I created a new Admin user and FoxNews videos worked but could not get iphotos to transfer to new admin user. So I'm still looking to fix the current Admin User. Thx.

I'm having the same problem - Safari seems to hang hourly. I'm switching to Firefox.

Unable to view ABC News Video through News RSS Links - Help required

I have noticed only recently that if I go to a news story through an rss list. If it is an ABC news Video, the page comes up ok but then it never gets past loading. I cant seem to get the video to play. There are no obvious errors, it should not be bandwidth as I have a high speed service and everything loads ok,
Any ideas, I am using Safari 5.0.2

Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon.
Now open the Library folder, then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist file to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari.
See if that helps...

Videos on my iPad are playing 2x. It seems to happen more prominently on videos via Safari and other apps like Fox News. Sometimes I can alter the speed by "scrubbing" through the video, but it is inconsistent. I have an iPad 1 running iOS 5.1.1...thanks!

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

Almost a year ago...Safari still can't do Yahoo News Video

I posted a note almost a year ago trying to get help on getting Safari to play news video from Yahoo. Well looks like Safari hasn't improved much. I tried viewing this news video from Yahoo and nothing play. Has anyone had any luck whatsover to get news video to play from news.yahoo.com?

The closest experience you'll have to watching any of the Yahoo News videos or Yahoo Tech shows is pathetic at best. But you asked, so I will tell.
First, you need to get a few things. They are:
1) Fire Fox web browser ( http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ )
2) Stuff It expander ( http://www.stuffit.com/mac/index.html ) Get the free version.
3) Windows Media Player ( http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/download/ misc/winmp_osx.xml&secid=80&ssid=8&flgnosysreq=True )
You'll need to download Stuff It Expander BEFORE you download WMP
If you have that stuff, good! If not, get and install them. Once that's done you'll have to force Fire Fox to run under Rosetta. This is how...
Finder>Applications>Fire Fox If you have your Finder configured to show your stuff in columns, then click the More Info button or you can just ctrl (control) click the Fire Fox icon and select Get Info. Under the General section there should be a check box with the words "Open Under Rosetta" next to it. Click the box and close the window. Open Fire Fox (you may wanna open WMP for the first time before you try to watch your web video) and go to Yahoo. Watch your video.
BE WARNED... both WMP and Fire Fox run under Rosetta and will be very RAM intensive. I have 2 GB's of RAM and watching videos is still a pain because of all of the skips and lags. You'll hear them talking, but the video will jump and skip about at random.
Well, Why bother? Don't. I suggest waiting for the official release of the Universal Binary Flip4Mac. If you can't wait, you can always search the boards and see if someone has an active link to get the Beta version.
To be honest, I can't just up and leave Yahoo. They are my primary email service. Videos aren't the only problem. A lot of their downloadable games are PC only. As long as I can check my mail, then I'll be alright.

Can't play Videos for Fox News

Hi I have not been able to play Fox New Videos Using Safari on my Mac. OSX 10.58. I can only play them on Firefox!
I upgraded to Safari 5.0 thinking that would help. But it didn't. I then upgraded to the latest Quick Time player, and Flash players, but still no go!
I can play videos from CNN and other News Outlets on Safari, so what is the problem??? Do I need some sort of plug in? I am not very familiar with plugins as I am NOT a very techy person, so I need some help.

Fox requires the latest version of Flash. Uninstall then reinstall the Flash Player plugin then repair disk permissions.
Uninstall Flash
Install the most recent version of Flash here.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

Why is there a guest account who can use safari in my login window???

why is there a guest account who can use safari in my login window when i completely disabled the guest account. I disabled the guest account so others wont be able to use the internet, specifically safari, on my mac, as a form of security/parental control and now anyone who wants to go online csn do so.
how could i completely remove that out of my login window?

Guest User - Safari Only

Back in Snow Leopard I had a the guest user restricted through parental controls to only allow Safari.
Then in Lion I was able to use the Guest in Safari Only Mode.
Now in Moutain Lion it looks like we are back to parental controls (Safari only mode is gone?). But when trying to change the Guest User, I cannot get the Parental Controls checkbox to stick. It keeps unchecking.
I wnat to use the Guest user so everything gets deleted when they logout.
What I want is a Guest User that can only run Safari. Anyone know how to do that in Mountain Lion?

Why does GarageBand audio work for guest user but not my account?

Hello, I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3) from late 2011 that I bought brand new in 2012. I'm running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 and my MacBook has 500 GB of storage.
About a month or two ago I tried to download the new GarageBand (10.0.2) but I had trouble completing the loops download. The download would stop halfway through because of a network error. So last week I decided to try to download it again, and I was able to do so after reading some discussions about the issue. I successfully completed the download in safety mode and then I restarted my MacBook. At this point I was able to open GarageBand 10.0.2 and create a new project. Unfortunately, there was no audio coming through the output and sound bar for the various audio components in GarageBand. I had no audio when previewing the loops or playing it back in an audio track. I didn't really test anything else out because I figured I needed to fix this problem first. I have read many discussion boards about audio problems with GarageBand. I have already made sure everything is set properly in the GarageBand preferences and the audio preferences in system preferences. I've tried restarting GarageBand and restarting the computer.
This evening I found a discussion from the username icewhatice and they seemed to have had my exact problem. I'm not sure that I found the answer on this discussion though. For reference, this is what icewhatice posted: "I have no audio coming from Garageband 10.0.2. Downloaded it on Saturday and have spent the last two days trying to figure out why it won't work. I'm using a macbook pro with an Alesis QX49. GB registers keyboard when I plug it in but no sound whatsoever, not even from the onscreen keyboard. It seems to read the keyboard as if I play a C chord, it appears in the display. I've done all the obvious stuff like check preferences, restart, I've deleted and downloaded new GB several times and always with same result. Actually, it took me about four attempts to download it in the first place as I was getting an internet connection error message right at the end of the download, and I see others have had that problem. Managed to solve that by downloading in safe mode but now the no sound thing is driving me absolutely crazy because I can't play my keyboard!!!!! Also, worth noting that there is no audio level being read anywhere, I believe in the new version this appears in the volume control at the top. I've also looked into it potentially being a problem with my keyboard and it possibly needing an update but can't find any difinitive answer for that anywhere. I've stopped looking into that because the on screen keyboard doesn't even work - if that worked then I would know at least GB works and it's something to do with the keyboard. So, I am at a complete loss. If anyone has any ideas about why this is happening or what I could do to solve then I would be very grateful."
After reading this, I realized that I am unable to create new tracks, and I realized that I have the same problems with old projects saved from the last version of GarageBand I had. I have not tried to download GarageBand again since it did not work for icewhatice. léonie ended this post by saying: "Something is certainly wrong - either the current project, some settings in your user account, or the downloaded GarageBand version. Or incompatible software may be interfering. If a new project does not work, try to test by logging into a different user account, for example the "Guest User" account. I have tried this and started a new GarageBand project in the "Guest User" account. GarageBand was working fine in the "Guest User" account and all of the audio was working properly. Does anyone know how I should troubleshoot my preferences?

If an application is working in a different account, but not in your regular account,try t find out, what you configured differently in your own account, for example start-up items or preference panes you are using, applications and other helper tools, that are only installed for your regular account. As a first guess, remove GarageBands preference files from the user library in your Home folder.
But you will have to reset all settings you did in the GarageBand preferences dialog. And GarageBand will not remember the last project. You'll have to find the file manually.
Remove these files from your User Library to a folder on your Desktop:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist
~/Library/Caches/garageband
Quit GarageBand, then remove the files to a folder on the Desktop and restart the computer, before trying again to open GarageBand.
You user library may still be hidden, as is the default in Mavericks: To open your hidden user library:
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house) in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options".
Enable "Show Library Folder".
Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to the Preferences, Caches, or Containers folder. Remove these folders completely - don't leave anything inside: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/,
~/Library/Caches/garageband .

Flash Player only plays one video on Fox News

When I first open Safari and go to Fox News videos, it will play the first one but after that, it goes black and shows nothing.
I tried uninstalling and installing the newest version but still nothing. I can watch videos everywhere else but here.
Any suggestions?

The videos that DO work are most likely HTML5 which requires no plugin.
Spotlight search "Flash Player.plugin" and trash EVERYTHING in the results.
Go to: [user]/Library/Preferences (Hold the "Option" key when you click "Go" from the Finder menu to access this folder)
Trash the com.macromedia.Flash Player.app.plist file.
Trash the Macromedia folder from there as well (the WHOLE folder).
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Trash the Flash Player folder and the Flash Player Install Manager folder.
Go to: Mac HD/Library/ Internet Plugins.
Trash the flashplayer.xpt file.
Empty the trash.
Download the offline installer: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac /install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg and run it.
If after all that, it still doesn't work, we'll need to look at other plugins you have that may be causing a conflict.
I have Safari, Firefox, Opera and Chrome, as well as a few "off brand" browsers and Flash Player works in all of them. Late 2012 Mini, Core15, 16Gb RAM.

When viewing news video (and others) the lips move and the sound follows after a few seconds. How do I fix this?

The movement of the lips when a video plays is not synced with the verbal noise that comes from speaking. It's like if I am talking and I hear it moments later not when I actually say it.
This happens when I view Fox news, cnn or any of the local news stations.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Self registering of Guest user

Hi,
I want to enable the self register option for the guest user.I can't see self-registration link on the Welcome screen.I have done the following steps.
1.Ticked self-registration for guest at UME.
2.Seted ume.logon.selfreg=TRUE in VA.
3.Assign the action "ume.selfregister_user" to the role "Everyone"
4.and finally restarted.
but still I am unable to see the link for "Self Registering".
Am I missing something?

You have missed the following two steps after server restart:
1) Configure the Standard User Role (eu_role):
a. Navigate to Content Administration --> Portal Content
b. Navigate to Portal Content --> Portal Users --> Standars Portal Users -->Standard User Role.
c. Open the Standard User Role
d. select in the "property Catagory" combo box in the property Editor frame the "User Management Permissions" option.
e. Change the following fields:
i. Manage_My_Profile --> yes
ii. Manage_My_Password --> yes
iii. Read_My_Profile -->yes
iv. Selfregister_User --> yes
f. Save the changes in the save button in the left size of the screen.
And then,
2) Assign eu_role to everyone group

The logo on the page which would be printed with the guest user credentials can be customized. It can be done from:
Administration > Users, Roles & AAA > Users > Click on the User name for 'Lobby Ambassador' > Click on the 'lobby Ambassador Defaults' tabs & scroll down to see the 'update Logo' option.
The details of the emails/credentials format can't be customized.

Problems with playing news videos and Adobe Flash

While using Safari, I try to play the entretainment/news videos. I get a message that I need to download Adobe Flash and then I download it. Firefox then opens and I can find the video and play it in Firefox. Does anyone know what is going on. Is this some sort bug?

2. Check whether you are currently in YouTube HTML 5 trial.

4. Turn off Extensions, if any. Then try.

YouTube "New Videos" Subscriptions

Is there anyway to view YouTube "New Videos" Subscriptions.
Under subscriptions on the iPad and iPhone they have "New Videos" so I can view only the new videos from the channels I have subscribed to.
I was looking under the YouTube channel on the Apple TV but did not see "New Videos".
