Safari Hanging on Page Loads

Since doing the 10.4.7 update, each time I try to load a new website Safari freezes about one third through the load. I click the stop button and then reload and it loads OK. Any ideas?

I'm in the same sinking boat. I've tried empting the cache, deleting the favicons in my icons folder, reseting, deleting the history, changing the DNS numbers or leaving them blank, etc...
The only thing I know for sure is that it's not a problem w/ my network or my provider. Other computers are just fine w/ my connection.
This issue seems so random, as it seems that it can happen to any site at any time. This is getting old. Will we ever have a solution? I hope, as I'd much rather use Safari than anything else.
HELP!

  • Safari hangs on page loading

    Hi all:
Recently upgraded to Lion 10.7.3 now on Safari 5.1.3, It loads fairly well on most anything, but there are certain pages that it hangs and never completes loading on 2 or 3 specific and particular pages, that I never had a problem to load with previous version of Safari.
These pages never load up and they are always the same, they end up in a never ending attempt to load. They use to load before with no problems
I've trashed out the Safari cache multiple times with no results.
    Any ideas???
    Thank You.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    As Guest, test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari hangs/fails to load any page.

    Hi,
Whenever I try to open any webpage, the Safari hangs/fails to load any page. The blue status bar doesn't progress and multi coloured wheel appears. Eventually I have to force quit the safari. I have installed firefox now in order to continue browsing but would like to return to safari at the earliest. Please help to fix this.

I was wondering if Onyx would work if you're running OS 10.4. (I know this would mean downloading an earlier version of Onyx.) If it wouldn't work, then is there another fix for this problem? Safari does the beachball for me, not on every page, but on enough of them to be really annoying.

  • Solution (sort of) for Safari hangs/failure to load

I and several others have been experiencing frequent hangs (or failure to load) with Safari 5.0.2 and 5.0.3 under OS X 10.6.5 and 10.6.6. Out of about 100 page loads, these hangs occur about twice. All pages stop loading and the progress bar stops at "http://www." It's not a full crash -- you can still switch between tabs and use the menu -- but no pages or page items will load.
After much helpful back and forth with Apple tech support and other affected individuals, we seem no closer to finding the cause of these hangs, but I have discovered a "sort of solution". When the hang occurs, if you have another tab that has already fully loaded, go to that tab and choose Save as... from Safari's File menu, then Cancel. That will free Safari which will resume normal operations. (If you don't have another tab already loaded, you can usually switch to any other app and choose Save or Save as..., then Cancel.)
No idea why this works, but it does and very consistently.

If anyone knows any better about what I wrote, please let me and everyone else in this forum know.

  • Safari hangs, does not load and crashes.

I have read some of the posts regarding the newer version 4.0.2 of Safari but the answers were not helpful for me. I went into "Library" and "Application Support" and removed all the applications in that folder and placed them on the desktop. I reset Safari, clearing everything and it either hangs like it is right now or I can open a few pages until it decides to hang or just shuts down completely. I have nothing in the "Internet Plug-ins" folder. When I change to another user I get the exact same results.
I use this computer for college work and this is now a serious problem for me. Please help!

Hi and Welcome To Apple Discussions
I believe the suggestion was to remove any item found in the Plugins folder found at HD>Library>Applications Support>SIMBL. Is that what you did, or did you remove everything in Applications Support? If the latter, return those items to the AS folder, otherwise you'll have problems with other applications. If you checked for SIMBL>Plug-in folder, did you find that folder (you may not have it installed in your system), and if you did, what is located there?
Another place to look via the Finder is HD>Library>InputManagers folder, or Your User Account>Library>InputManagers folder. If you see anything in either of those folders, please post the name of the bundle here.
Another remedy for Safari hangs is found in this post.

  • Safari's initial page load delay... where to turn off or change?

    Hi,
A while back I read that Safari puts a few seconds delay when loading a new webpage, .. and 4.03 still has it. I just can't find where it was that I read how to take it off.. Does any one know?
Basically I want Safari to start drawing the page as soon as it gets to it, kind of like opera does.
Just in case Why don't I just use opera? I prefer Safari, but I don't always need the initial page that is loading but a link on it... and I find myself waiting.. and on fast connection, just to load a page I shouldn't have to be waiting until the browser feels the page load is complete.
    Thanks
    Oscar

    HI,
There's no delay feature that you are referring to in Safari. If you can find the article you read, could you please post it here?
Have you tried emptying the cache?
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Empty Cache
    Also, try using Open DNS

  • Safari hangs or fails loading Quicktimes

I'm uploading Qt's to my website - they load fine locally, but from the web Safari hangs, spinning beachball, and sometimes fails to load the video at all.
The video is H264 exported from Quicktime Pro 7.6.3, tried running Safari in 64, 32 and even Rosetta modes. It appears that QtX is trying load the video no matter how I run Safari.
    Websire is here :
    http://tobygaines.com
    Thanks for any advice!

*"I'm curious, do you always run it in 32bit mode or just when there's a problem? "*
Always run Safari in 32 bit mode.
*" I loaded one of my videos from the website, closed the window, emptied the cache, even quit Safari, re-opened my website and the video was still fully loaded, played instantly."*
You want that to happen. Otherwise you would have to wait that much longer everytime a video loads and that would happen to every visitor to your site without a browser cache. It empties the cache from the Safari/Empty Cache menu but the minute you load another video your computer writes that data into the cache.
*"What do you think, is this just growing pains from the move to SL? "*
    For the future...
Growing pains. Whenever you upgrade any computer from one operating system to the next, it's important to read all the data you can to prepare. Each time you see a Software Update for the Mac OS X you have the option in that window to click a link so you can see exactly what the update includes. Third party software is often a culprit for issues after updating software.

  • SAFARI, FIREFOX, IE / PAGE LOADING STALLS

I'm experiencing the same problem on all three browsers. When I open a new page in the browser window, the load process stalls -- usually when it is trying to load one of the last 2 or 3 items.
This problem started about a week ago.
I've cleared the caches, and deleted the cookies. I removed and reinstalled Firefox - my preferred browser.
    G4 / 933MHz / 1GB   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi, Gary. From your description, it doesn't sound as if the browsers are stalling — it just sounds as though the pages in question weren't designed and thoroughly tested to load properly on various different browsers. Unfortunately, that's more nearly the rule than the exception: it's unusual for any page to be displayed exactly identically in two different browsers, never mind three or more different browsers. If the page-loading progress bar reaches completion, and you are able to use buttons and links that appear on the pages, then you're getting everything you can in each of the browsers you use — but not necessarily the same stuff in each browser. If you only had a single browser, you'd never know you were missing anything on the web sites you visit unless a freind who could see the missing features told you about them. With three browsers to choose from, use the one that most satisfactorily renders each web site you frequent. This may mean switching from browser to browser as you move from one web site to another. It's a drag, but the web site designers are to blame for failing to test and debug their sites more thoroughly.

  • Safari crashes on page load up

    I have OS 10.5.7, Safari 4.0.
Safari loads up fine to default favorite web pages. However, when click on a page or directly ente the URL the page begins to load up and then crashes leaving me with the Relaunch, Report, Ignore option.
I have repaired permissions, removed the app and reinstalled Safari from Apple website (via FireFox) and restarted the computer a hundred times. Still no luck.
Recent changes have been Safari 4.0 and iPhone 3.0 via iTunes. However, neither iTunes or the iPhone were connected.

  • Safari Hangs - - will not load

When I try to start Safari it hangs. I move the cursor to the top bar and it's the spinning beach ball. I have to do a force quit. This is on my MacBook Pro using Max OS X 10.5.4, 2 gigs ram.
I used time machine to get an earlier version.
I've tried deleting and reinstalling (using MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.4.dmg).
I moved my cookies.plist to the desktop.
I moved any adobe plugins out of the plugins folder.
    I reset the PRAM.
Nothing is working. Safari will not load.

Do you have anything located in either of these 2 folders:
Hard drive > Library > InputManagers
Hard drive > Users > Your Username > Library > InputManagers
If so, drag the files/folders located within them and place them on your Desktop for the time being. (If you can't find either folder, that's fine as they may not exist.)
Retry Safari after moving those items.

  • Mobile Tumblr hanging on page load?

  • Safari "Freezing" during page loading

I have never had this problem before I downloaded Safari 4.0 in a stupid software update. While loading a page, it freezes. Safari doesn't lock up, I can still use the menus and can minimize and close the window, but the page does not show on my screen. I can access Google and these Mac forums along with a few other sites. One of which I cannot access is YouTube. It does this every time I try and load a page there. I can't think of what would cause this to happen, but it must be something to do with Safari 4. I have seen other reports of Safari freezing and crashing, but I haven't seen some that seem to be the problem I have. Is there someway to fix it on my own? Because it would be awesome, otherwise I'm just going to have to use Firefox until theres an update for it.
I even took a video of what happens when I try and access YouTube, since I know sometimes my descriptions of things can be somewhat confusing.

If you are having the same problem as me, try this:

It worked perfectly for me and now Safari runs just fine.

  • Safari freeze on page load

Safari seems to be freezing whenever I attempt to load a page. The program launches and opens an empty window fine, but freezes exactly when I type in an address and hit enter. Re-installing, deleting preferences, checking permissions and verifying disk have not worked. Interestingly, though, the program works fine in other user accounts.
    Any ideas?

  • Safari crashes or pages load chaotically

This is a question for my Mom who runs Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6) on her iMac which runs Mac OS X 10.3.9.
Internet runs on Comcast cable access.
Safari is really acting squirrely. Crashes often. ALWAYS crashes if YouTube is accessed.
Even if it doesn’t crash, the page formats are often incomplete or “messed up.” Like overlapping text or images. Difficult to use buttons.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you

    HI,
She's running an old version of Safari and an old version of the Mac OS X (10.3.9).
Today's web sites contain content that requires up to date software.
Crashing while using YouTube content on Safari 1.3.2... not surprising.
See if her iMac can be updated to the latest version of the Flash Player Plugin for 10.3 here.
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
    And try Safari maintenance. http://guides.macrumors.com/SpeedupSafari
Also, check the hard drive for available disk space.
Control or right click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click "Get Info". Under the General tab you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is at least 10% available.*

  • Safari hanging up "Page not Found" on MANY websites since 7.1.3 update installed earlier today

It's slowly gotten better on some sites the past couple of hours, but still won't open things like Yahoo or Amazon. I also can't log in to Blizzard's Battle Net (not Safari related). Everything was working just fine until I okay'd the security and safari updates from the App store this morning. I'm running 10.9.5 system on a 2008 Mac Pro and nothing else has changed.

A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help after an OS X update.
Top left corner of your screen click the  Apple   > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.
Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple  menu. From the drop down menu click:  Restart
    Then try Safari.
