Safari Not working on certain web sites......

There are many sites where Safari does not work correctly.
A example is eBay.com and GoogleBase.com
Where you are trying to enter text in the "sell a item" window.
I have been told by these sites that I need to update to a newer version or Safari.
I am running Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3) on a iMac G5 2.1Mhz OSX 10.4.8
When I Use Foxfire on these web sites I have NO problem entering text.
Why will Safari not work?
Is Safari to old?
Are the web sites to new?
Thanks
1.5GHz G4 PowerBook & 2.1 GHz G5 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Complying with security standards and complying with web design standards are two entirely different things.
Many web sites don't comply with web design standards - it's an unfortunate fact of life. In a very many cases, it's because the sites are designed to work with Windows Internet Explorer* with no attempt to make sure the web sites work with any other browsers or on any other platforms. Usually that doesn't result in the inability of a web browser to access the site properly, but in some cases it does.
*(In case anyone thinks Windows Internet Explorer should be the standard, this simply isn't realistic, despite possibly sounding sensible on the face of it. Web design standards are based on usability guidelines and and well-researched methods to make web page code more practical, streamlined, and able to be used on a variety of devices and by people with a variety of needs. They're not just a set of rules that can be changed on a whim to conform to a certain web browser's quirky way of rendering sites. Internet Explorer is notorious for not being compliant with agreed upon web standards. Internet Explorer is even inconsistent in how it renders web pages from one IE version to the next, complicating matters even further.)

  • Safari Pinch and Zoom not working on one web site

Now I thought the zoom in/out feature just worked when ever you wanted on Safari. Well I heard about the iPhone-version of the MacTech web site, so I went to check it out. Well now I can't zoom in/out on that site. It's totally ignoring me, so I opened another Safari window and went to a different site; low and behold the zoom works fine. So I go back to MacTech, and still the zoom doesn't work. So what gives?
This really s* since if I've viewing the MacTech website while holding my iPhone vertically I can't shrink the page down to see everything and I'm forced to scroll side to side.
I really hope that Apple hasn't provided web sites a way of blocking our zooming, as it is a fantastic feature.
    Oh, the web site is:
    www.mactech.com/commapplenewsforiphone.php
in case anyone else wants to try it out.

    They've set:
    meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=2.3, user-scalable=no"
It's the user-scalable that's the problem. Apple considers the default (per their web coding rules at http://developer.apple.com/iphone/designingcontent.html to be yes.
    I've noticed the same thing.

  • Safari doesn't open certain web sites

    Hi there,
I'm a web designer working on a new site. My clients say that their Mac which is running Safari 5.1.5 won't open their web site which is: http://www.adventuress.us
I've asked about 5 other people to see if they could open it up on a mac using Safari.  So far, everyone can open it except for my client.
Can you help me troubleshoot this?  The site is created with wordpress.  It's not redirecting.
I'm really not sure which Mac they have or their operating system.  I just chose two so that I could submit this ticket.
What in the world would stop them from being able to see the site? They can go to other sites.
    Thanks.

    Hi...
What in the world would stop them from being able to see the site?
Ask if they have anti virus software installed ..
It would help to know for sure which Mac OS X they have installed. Click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen. From the drop down menu click: About This Mac.
I'm running Lion v10.7.3 with Safari 5.1.5 on one Mac without any problems loading that site. Same with another Mac running Snow Leopard v10.6.8.
I am using OpenDNS which may help your client and is suggested by Apple > Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, includes anti phishing filters, prevents browser redirects, blocks the flashback trojan, and it's free.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
Quit then relaunch Safari. Try that site.

  • Safari 2.0.3 : certain web sites don't recognize correct login/password

Just upgraded to 10.4.4 and with this to safari 2.0.3.
From this day on I can't gain access to some web sites that require a log/pass because it says it is incorrect. ( Note the password I type is the correct one and works with explorer...).
One of these sites is msn passport.net: in this case the web site asks me to rewrite some characters that appear in a box, and when I do it says that they don't match.
It seems as if the charcters I write are not interpreted the same way by the web site.
I have cookies active, I emptyied cache... don't have other ideas.
    Anyone can be of help?

Update: I ran Console upon trying to load a web site that won't load. Here are the messages from that action with any identical messages deleted:

  • Manage On Demand Does Not Work on the Web Site

Trying to Manage on Demand on the web site.  Page does not load correctly.  IE Crashes.  Firefox just does not work.  Something wrong with the web site.

I've had same problem for 3 months. They've been to the house twice about this issue and still no fix. They won't pay attention until enough of us cancel and that is exactly what I plan to do

  • Safari not working on the usual sites

This last week I have found Safari NOT to be working with at least three sites I normally frequent. Southwestvacations.com the button to price your vacation no longer works. On the Pioneer website to pay the bill, button no longer works, and even on Roadrunner website, SOME of the buttons no longer work. They ALL work in Firefox....is this a security thing? Any ideas, any fixes?? I am very disappointed in this, I have liked working in Safari up until this point. Thank you.

I am having the same problem since upgrading to 1.1.3 It seems to happen on the https sign in process to eBay for me. I can get through eBay up until that point and I had no problem doing this all the time before I upgraded. I can get around to many other sites just fine.

  • IE 11 stops working at certain web sites

When I try to open, example, tiger direct, IE11 stops working. There are several other web sites in which it does the same thing. Can this be fixed

    Hi,
Sorry for the delay, even you have reset IE, some setting are stil maintailed in IE, I tried to reset my IE, and found that some add-ons are still enabled in it, thus I suggest you have a try for a test.
    Reset Internet Explorer settings

And any information in event viewer to narrow down the cause of the issue?

  • Back button does not work with some web sites to return me back too Firefox main page after concluding business on site.

After connecting to a web site and completing tasks, I use back button too return too Firefox main page. After using back button to get back to the original site log in page the back button (after repeated uses) will never get me off the web page and back to the Firefox main page. At this point the only way too get back too Firefox main page is too shut down Firefox wait 60 seconds and restart Mozilla-Firefox.

Some web pages are coded to redirect you forward to another page. In that case, when you go back to the page, Firefox redirects you forward again.
To bypass this, use the history drop-down next to the back and forward buttons. The drop-down has the most recent pages on top, and older pages below. Jump as far down the list as you can, then repeat as needed to get back to the first page.
    Does it work?

  • Safari not working with certain sites

Not sure if this is related to the Java issues posted but i just upgraded to safari 4.0.1 and sites that worked before do not now. eg. try http://www1.parknshop.com/WebShop/DeliveryDetails.do;jsessionid=Iaded68owLIVUKAj LPJq2rfCD32wI1yDld0aLztDN7bQfohwQsk2!817254534. you can log on but when you actually try to shop and add things to the basket it doesnt work. if you keep hitting "refresh" then the images start to pop up but obviously cant keep doing this. all worked fine in safari 3.

I don't know if you are still having the problems or not but I have fixed them on my Macbook. The problem was a Java issue and not Safari. I guess the Java update and Safari 4.0.1 updates were installed at the same time on my machine. I did an archive and install then updated everything except Java and Safari. At that point, with Safari 3.2.3, everything worked like it should. So I installed the Java update and Safari 3.2.3 was still working like it should. So I installed Safari 4.0.2. Still working like it should. I did find some information after I did the archive and install that said reinstalling the Java update can possibly fix the problem. So I would try that before doing anything else. The Java update can be found here.

  • Safari doesnt work at most web sites, need to use firefox

more and more, firefox doesn't load web pages correctly, like yahoo videos, the blue qt circle spins snd spins, and the beachball locks everything up.  Why put an x in the url to interrupt, but it never works? using osx 10.5.8 and safari 5.06. very frustrating.  thinking of making firefox default browser as it seems to work more universally

    Hello, might try this...
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply. For 10.5/10.6 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

Apple has created a bug report or ticket if you will. The speed in which they correct the problem depends on how many people call in to report an issue.

  • Safari "can't connect to the server" message for certain web sites

I recently decided to upgrade my mid-2007 macbook with another GB of memory and then installed snow leopard so that I could run google chrome. While this made my computer run much faster, I am no longer able to connect to certain sites I visit frequently, such as facebook and craigslist. This started when I began using chrome, right after I installed snow leopard, so I attempted to use safari instead, but it will not let me visit these two sites either. Then I tried running firefox and flock, which still won't let me visit the sites.
While the problem began with chrome, I couldn't find any google support articles to solve it. I have explored other threads with similar problems in this forum, but each of them seem to have been able to visit the sites in another browser. I went into each browser and deleted cookies, history, and everything, then uninstalled all browsers and reinstalled safari from the mac os x disc, and I am still unable to visit the sites. I don't have a clue what might be blocking these sites in all browsers.

I apologize for the delay. I took my macbook to the genius bar, and they fixed the issue by deleting some files from the old OS (though I unfortunately don't know how they did this as a manager in the back room took care of it). I still couldn't visit sites using Java as they said Java had somehow installed incorrectly and I would need to reinstall the OS once again to fix this. I continued to use my machine without trying to fix the Java issue for a few weeks. However, without reinstalling the OS, the exact problem has started again. Yesterday I reinstalled OSX 10.6.3 in order to fix the Java issue, hoping it would fix everything, but Java still isn't working, and I still can't visit certain web sites.
I have added those two DNS servers, but that did not solve the issue.
Any advice on how to 1) fix Java and 2) delete the old OS files? I have run all software updates with no luck.
