Safari password saver

How do I stop Safari from saving my login password to the abbreviated/shortened web address that appears in the address box.
The actual login address is longer and appears correctly when I tap to the side of the abbreviated address at the top of the screen however when I ask to save the password it uses the shortened address and not the longer correct address. Therefore when i go back to the login address I don't get the option to auto-fill.
regards
Peter

If you turn on Private Browsing in Safari, you turn off Autofill.
As it should. Private Browsing stops all browser data from being cached or saved.
This point is not made in the iPad2 User Guide.  The two features are both explained on page 39 of the User Guide, but future editions need to contain a line under both sets of instructions warning of this unadvertised privacy "feature" of Private Browsing.
Perhaps a bit more of what "Private Browsing" is, could be written.

  • Edit Safari passwords

    I had to change a password to one of the websites I frequent. I couldn't figure out how to edit this password so I went into:
    setting /// safari /// passwords&auto fill /// saved passwords and deleted the login associated with that web site.
    Now when I go to that web site nothing auto fills. If I click on the auto fill tab on the keyboard it auto fills it with a different web sites info.
    I was hoping once I deleted the password it would give me the choice to add one again.
    Does anyone one know how to fix this?
    thanks

    You can can Show and Remove passwords but not edit.
    For editing. Open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
    Type in the website name top right corner of that window then right or control click the keychain then click Delete.
    Navigate to the website. Enter the user name and passwords. Click Yes when prompted to save the password to a new keychain.

  • Using Safari Password Sharing to Autofill Login Info in Apps

    At WWDC 2014, developers were told that a new part of the Continuity functionality would be the ability to have Safari keep your login information for an app and autofill it. I think it was called Safari Password Sharing. It's referenced on a number of websites:
    http://www.macrumors.com/2014/06/13/ios-8-safari-password-sharing/
    http://9to5mac.com/2014/06/13/ios-8-lets-apps-access-safari-autofill-credentials -for-quick-easy-login/comment-page-1/#comment-255766
    Does anyone know if this was ever implemented? It's driving me crazy trying to find where this is in development.
    Thank you.

    That's probably due to the sites being secure sites.
    You might try the trial of 1password and then see if that works for you on the sites you like.

  • HT201272 Where can I find the app password saver by yonglin wang.  i wanted to restore my iphone and i had purchased this app and it is not anywhere in my purchases to reload.  Why is it not on my list of purchases?

    Where can I find the app "password Saver" by yonglin wang?  while updating my iphone the app was dropped for some reason.  I went to reload from my purchased apps and it is not available.  The history shows my purchase but I can not find the app to reload.  I've lost some critical info and need to retreive if possible.  Any suggestions?

    You tried what ? If the app is no longer available in the store (can you find it in the main part of the store ?) for re-downloading then you would need to have a copy of it somewhere e.g. on your computer's iTunes, on a backup of your downloads.

  • The password save prompt box does not appear on logging in to certain password protected webpages; is there another way of adding their passwords to Firefox sync?

    Dear Firefox tech supporter,
    I am Currently running:
    Firefox v6.0.2;
    Windows 7 fully updated at 19 Sept 2011 15:45 GMT;
    Norton Internet Security 2011 (using Identity Safe) fully updated at same time as Windows 7;
    Extensions to Firefox-
    Norton Toolbar 2011.7.1.3;
    Symantec IPS 3.1;
    Add to Amazon Wish List Button 7.1;
    Minimap Addon 0.3.13
    Plugins
    The usual suspects from Microsoft, Adobe, Wacom, Apple and Google, all of which are checked and no updates currently found.
    With webpages such as <https://shop.avanquest.com/members/?company_rs=51>, PayPal and Windows Live e.g. after correct login details are entered into the online form and login is performed successfully. The "key" symbol does not appear to the left of the "awesome bar", neither does the password save pop up box and so the login details for the site cannot be saved in Firefox sync.
    This is not specific to https secure sites, as I have been able to save the passwords for several https secure sites and conversely, I have been unable to save the passwords for some http non secure URLs. I have ensured that, whilst trying to enter a page or site into Firefox sync, it has the only tab open.
    There does not seem to be a way of manually entering website details (URL, User Name, Password etc.) into Firefox Sync; how can I save the password details for such sites?
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Chris Morris

    Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • What is Safari Power Saver and why does it keep popping up?

    On many sites I get a popup asking me to activate or install Safari Power Saver. I sometimes close the popup, more often just leave the site. Is there any danger to clicking ok? Is there any reason to do this? Is there any way to avoid this without turning off popups everywhere?
    Thanks!
    Stan

    Thanks! I still don't understand the concept of "saving power" in this context. Does that relate to a laptop running on battery, and some popups consume more battery power? Or does this refer to CPU capacity?  I have never had any issue that I know of in these areas. I would understand the warning if it cautioned me about insufficient bandwidth, but that doesn't seem to apply here. In any case, am glad to find that this is a feature and not a bug.

  • Do you hane password saver like Internet Explorer? Roboform is slowing down my computer.

    Why doesn't Firefox have it's own password saver and fill in automatically like Internet Explorer? It asks if you want to save passwords. Roboform slows down my computer. It is always running.

    Firefox includes a password manager, for details on using it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Remembering+passwords
    That article also include links to troubleshooting articles if the password manager is not remembering passwords.

  • How to tell Safari to save as a Web Archive

    The default "Save" when using a script is to save as "Page Source." How would one write a script to Save as "Web Archive."

    01. In 'Safari' - manually, select the 'File, Save As...' menu item. A drop down sheet will appear.
    02. Select the 'Format:' Web Archive' menu item.
    03. Click on the 'Save' button.
    04. Locate the just saved web page, trash it, and empty the trash.
    You have now set 'Safari' to save all future 'Save As...'es in the 'Web Archive' format.
    05. Use the code (which is supplied with no error trapping) below.
    -- Code starts here --
    property tURL : "http://www.badcopnews.com/"
    tell application "Safari"
    activate
    make new document at end of documents
    set URL of document 1 to tURL
    get document 1
    end tell
    delay 3
    tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari"
    keystroke "s" using command down -- 'Command S' - 'Save As...'
    delay 1 -- Pause for 1 second.
    keystroke "d" using command down -- 'Command D' - Go to 'Desktop'.
    delay 1 -- Pause for 1 second.
    keystroke "c" using command down -- 'Command C' - Go copy highlighted text.
    set the clipboard to ((do shell script ("date +%Y%m%d%H%M%S")) & (the clipboard))
    keystroke "v" using command down -- 'Command V' - 'Paste'.
    delay 1 -- Pause for 1 second.
    click button "Save" of sheet 1 of window 1 -- Click on 'Save' button.

    I recently installed your password saver thing, now I cannot undo a password that has changed. How do I uninstall this thing? PC dumb , as I am old and know little to nothing about computers. Thank you, Jane

    You can remove saved passwords here:
    *Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
    If you want to remove saved form data from a drop down list then use these steps:
    #Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
    #Highlight an entry in the drop down list
    #Press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.
