Safari pdf reading problems.

For some needs I installed Adobe Reader on my MacBook Pro 13' Late 2011 Mountain Lion. It seems adobe program somehow changed configuration is safari. Thereby after deleting Adobe Reader I can't watch pdfs thgrough safari.
Can anyone help me how to fix this?

Hi ..
Open a Finder window then from the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Click Go.
If you see the:  AdobePDFViewer plugin in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.
Restart your Mac and try opening a PDF file.

  • Safari PDF Veiwing Problems

Having problem in viewing pdf files using the Safari browser. I have adobe professional installed on my machine. I have read in this forum that Safari has a build in pdf reader and to delete the adobe plug-in in the library/internet plug-in folder. I did delete this file but it has no effect on safari and viewing pdf files. When I select a pdf file for viewing I get just a black screen and no viewing.
Everything works properly when using Firefox if that makes any difference.
    As info is greatly appreciated.
    Michael

The black screen shows while it downloads the PDF when using the Adobe PDF plugin, it might take a while depending on the PDF size. give it a while, or try to view a PDF that you know is small.
Safari uses the Adobe Plugin in 32 bit mode (if present in the plugin folder), its internal renderer in 64 bit mode.
I am not sure, but I think you can only change 32/64 bit mode in Snow Leopard, in the info window for the application.

  • Safari pdf reader not recognizing page numbers

Is there a way to code a link to a pdf so that Safari will open to a particular page within the pdf rather than to the front page?

I think I've discovered the problem, but I'm no expert, so you'd have to test it or apply your knowledge to determine if I'm correct. The Adobe document I liked to says that you must use the format
A HREF="http://www.example.com/myfile.pdf#page=4" (with < and > symbols at the beginning and end to enclose the link.)
for targeted links, and that you can't use "URLS containing local hard drive addresses (c:\folder\), then you cannot link to page numbers or set destinations."
The latter appears to be what you are doing; i.e., http://www.franciscan.edu/uploadedFiles/TopLevel/About/FactBook/FactBook.pdf#page=11
So if you were to change it to the former method, it should work.
As for testing, creating new User accounts is just like creating your own account initially: open system Preferences > Accounts and click on the "+" sign at the bottom left, give it a name and a password, then you can logout of the account you're in and into the new account for testing.

  • PDF reading problem: PdfMeNot

For a long time now, in multiple versions of Firefox, I have had a problem opening PDF files. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. I'm not sure why it is a problem only sometimes, but I think I know why it fails when it fails. I just don't know how to fix it.
Briefly, I click on a PDF and a popup shows me that a call is being made to PdfMeNot.com - which doesn't exist anymore.
I do not have any extension or plugin called PdfMeNot so I can't get rid of it. From what I've read, that means it must be called by some other extension or plug-in but I have no idea which. The only two PDF extensions I have are Adobe and Nitro. Disabling one or the other or both doesn't solve the problem.
I have also cycled through the various PDF options in the Options section but none of those changes helps either.
Does anybody know anything about PdfMeNot? Specifically, how do I get it out of Firefox?

    CoryMH:
No, PdfMeNot is not an installed Windows program. There is a Pdf955 installed by H&R Block. My desktop computer died some months ago and I've been relying solely on my newish backup laptop on which I've installed a bare minimum of programs. I brought over the Firefox installation. And, yes, the PDF problem existed on the desktop.
I have tried changing the Applications options in Firefox but nothing I choose makes a difference.
I suspect, but am not certain, that I can open PDF files "inside" a web site - i.e., statements at a bank web site. But that it is when I encounter a PDF via Google Search that the PdfMeNot kicks in.
    Re Version 24:
Simple. Or not so. Upgrading Firefox is always a hassle. One or more extensions will invariably fail (I have around a hundred or so). If one of them is critical, I have to go back to the older FIrefox version which, even though I use profiles, isn't always as clean or easy as I would like it to be.
At best, I usually end up spending a couple of hours getting everything to look and work the way it used to which is especially hard because I've usually forgotten exactly how I had set up the options in one or another extension. In short, it is a time consuming pain and rarely worth the effort. So I upgrade once or twice a year.
Also, although I haven't checked recently, it seems that Mozilla has chosen to go with a download "stub" rather than the entire installation package. I prefer the latter because it makes it easier to revert to an older version of Firefox if I run into some major problem on some web site.
Lastly, Mozilla has decided to use the Chrome "menu" icon which I know has spread like a virus but which I dislike intensely. And, yes, I know there is an extension to "bring back" the old Firefox menu but it's an extension not part of the basic code which means support will always be an issue.
In short, Ver 24 works just fine, is plenty fast, never crashes. Why buy trouble?

The latest stable and latest development versions of the built-in PDF viewer are available as an extension and these version can possibly perform better than the version shipped with the current Firefox release.

  • PDF reading problems

I can't open a read a PDF file I copied to my curve8250  from my laptop so I emailed it to my phone as an attachment and my phone has a little question mark in the little box in my email header when it arrives and if I try to open it I get then message "This attachment type cannot be viewed on your device".   Does anyone know how I can read a PDF on my phone?
    Thanks

Sue, PDF files are able to open and view from an email attachment.
My first guess (knowing there are many variable PDF file types created by odd softwares which don't always comply with Adobe PDF structure) is that this file is not a true PDF file. Especially so if you can't open it either from your laptop.

Have downloaded both Adobe reader and PDF reader, but when I attempt to open a pdf from a site on safari, it starts to load, then disappears.  Any way to fix this?

Try quitting the PDF apps and Safari like I describe below. Then reset the iPad. After it starts try again.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

    Hi
I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me.
The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reader (adobe pdf reader, internet browsers, ...etc.).
This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
    What can I do?
    thank you a lot.

There is no product called Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro. There is
    - Adobe Acrobat Pro ($$)
    - Adobe Reader (free)
Which do you have? And are you a programmer?

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

How about if you right click on the PDF and select Save Link As..., and then open it locally from within Reader? Does it work ok then?  That might be a workaround until the issue within the browser is resolved.

  • Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader?

Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. Thanks

    Try this:
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Empty the trash
Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.
