Safari requesting Keychain access in Lion Recovery mode

With a blank HD, why do I encounter a "Get Help Online Safari" requesting Keychain access in Lion's Recovery mode?

What are you trying to do in Safari in the Recovery HD?
Just re-install Lion

after then i istall lion ,if i open Keychain Access ,dont open it and i read this message" i can't open Keychain Access for a problem"
for mi this is a big problem i can't lost every my keys
    help me please

    OK, let's try this...
Create a new User go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up in Safe Mode  (It will take more time to startup because it runs a directory check.)
If your Keychain functions correctly that way, go to Keychain menu and "Rebuild Keychain. If not go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to/Users/yourname/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving/Users/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
    * Again, Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library"

  • Master Password appears to have messed up Safari and Keychain Access

    Hi!
I searched on my issue at length and perhaps I'm just ignorant, but I could not see an answer. So here goes...
My department has an internet site that requires a Certificate on Windows machines on the network, however you can also authenticate by entering your user name and password. I had entered my information, and saved the information in my Keychain.
Yesterday, I set the Master Password in System Prefs, however I did NOT turn FileVault on.
Today, I came to work and am on my work's network, just like normal. I went to a bookmark that is on the password protected site and I got a Keychain window asking for my FileVaultMaster password (or something like that). It was not looking for my login password for the Mac, rather the Master Password I set yesterday.
I entered the correct password, then I get the nasty page saying that the Page Requires and SSL Certificate.
So, I went to the Keychain Access and repair, but nothing needed repair. Emptied cache, same problem. I deleted the item in the Keychain, same problem. Deleted all saved passwords in Safari, same problem. Deleted all cookies, same problem.
So, I opened Firefox and I'm able to get in, but I can't in Safari.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
This may not help, but I'd use the Network panel of System Preferences to create a new "Location" and add an AirPort connection item to that. (To create a new location, pull down the "Location" list and select "Edit Locations".) In the new location add an AirPort connection item and nothing else.) If that works, you would use location switching to alternate between mobile broadband an Wi-Fi connections. The easiest way to do that would be to use the "Location" item under the Apple menu.
For future reference, this discussion group section is intended for discussions of Apple's AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station. A better place for your post would probably have been in the "Getting Online and Networking" section of the "Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard" area.

  • Lion Recovery Mode shuts down when trying to start it.

When I start recovery mode (in verbose) I get 'proc 98: load code signature error 9 for file "securityd"' among other bugs/errors. See attached image.
With this I am unable to get into recovery mode. Booting and holding cmd+r/option will allow me to start the boot into recovery mode. I've also tried using the recovery assistant to put it on a external drive, but to no avail.
MBP15" Early 2011. It does have a firmware password (which I cannot remove due to the inability of getting in recovery mode).

After toyin around a bit more, I managed to attempt to mount the boot dmg on the RHD. The follow happened:
This confims to me that my boot dmg is corrupted. However I wanted to rule away the option of the firmware password, and hence mounted the dmg with no verification. Using this I was able to sucessfully remove the firmware password. After rebooting I got indeed not prompted for a password when holding alt. The problem with my RHD however persisted.

  • Trouble backing up HDD in Mountain Lion Recovery Mode into external hardrive

My Macbook Pro that's only more than 3 months old is stuck in the grey screen with the apple logo, so I'm stuck in OS X Recovery Mode. While I've tried ressurecting it using safe boot or the fsck command, it's simply not working. I've decided to just reinstall the OS X, but I think there's still something wrong with my HD that's preventing the OS to be reinstalled.
I'm planning on doing an Erase & Reinstall AFTER I back up my HD to one of my two external hardrives. But while on disk utility & using the Restore tab to copy the contents of my HD to my external hardive, it says that it "Could not validate source - error 254". When I tried erasing the contents of my external first, it says "Disk erase failed. POSIX reports: the operation could not be completed. input/output error."
What should I do in order to be able to backup my HD to one of my external hardrives?
WIll erasing/reformatting my HD let me reinstall OS X via Internet Recovery mode?
Please help! I'm really hoping I'd be able to save my files without resorting to spending cash for file recovery programs. And I need to be able to use my laptop again soon.

Since youre not at all familiar with doing that, I wouldnt recommend you doing that.
Make a service call to Apple for diagnostic / repair.     Are you under warranty?
Well, your laptop is ONE thing, the HD is another.   There are only 4 HD makers on earth, and all the pros work from the premise that their HD is going to crash and fail at anytime, all the time.  Even the very best made ones.
Consider these 2 points for the future:
Never consider any computer a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device. Anyone who thinks data is safe on any computer, even copied upon multiple partitions is making a mistake that will, without fail, strike.
Most importantly know that 2 copies of your data is 1, and 1 is none.
“My computer is OK, therefore so too is my data"
Literally thousands of times, regardless of make or model of computer I have heard “my data I have spent months on is all gone”; or likewise “my computer with priceless data was stolen/in a fire and the backup (singular) was with it and is gone too”. When we fail to plan, we are planning for certain failure in neglecting data redundancy. At the very minimum of $10,000 a month, anyone who has lost ‘months’ worth of data has trusted a very valuable payload, sometimes $100,000+ of work at the end of a very weak chain.
How so very weak? All HD/SSD, even the very highest of quality, are at best considered ephemeral by professionals and a single backup is merely a rope in the case of a ‘fall’, as in the case of drive failure. In addition to a rope your data needs a net and additionally a cushion underneath it all for safety to be considered in place.
None of us would consider working hard for months and then taking the money from that work and placing it on the curb in a paper bag; yet most people never second guess leaving that level of work on our computer drive or a single backup. Separation in place and unassailable redundancies is mandatory. It takes a matter of mere minutes to safeguard priceless data, therefore proper consideration and action needs to be taken.

  • Safari requests keychain.login constantly!

I just bought a 17" Macbook Pro and am new to Tiger 10.4.7. I don't understand keychain. I have an administrator password to log on to my computer. If I go online, Safari keeps popping up a log-in box and asks for my "keychain.login." I type my administrator password, which is all I have, but it says it's incorrect! If I just cancel the pop-up, it goes away--I'm not restricted or anything. Does this happen to everyone who uses Safari? Am I supposed to have a separate password for keychain? If not,is there some way to make it stop asking for this? It is very annoying. Thanks for any help you can give me with this issue.
    17 " Macbook Pro 1,2   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB ddr2 SDRAM

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I might have solved the issue for now. I created a standard user account to be separate from my admin account and discovered that whenever I use Safari as a standard user, it never asks for my keychain! It's wonderful. I will try your suggestions in my admin account though and see if any will work. Thanks again.

  • Trying to select option in Lion Recovery Assistant

    Hi There,
I'm trying to do a fresh install of Lion on my Mac Mini using the recovery assistant, however when I boot up using Option r into the 'Mac OS X Utilities' screen that has the 4 options to select from, I can highlight any of the options however it doesn't allow me to select them or press continue (using my keyboard or touchpad)? Any ideas how to fix this?
I'm the only user set up on my mac mini so am guessing it's not to do with not having sufficient permission?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Thanks for the help. I actually got things going after I realised that going into Lion recovery mode messed up my trackpad and keyboard settings. Once I sorted these out it all seemed to work fine.
    I appreciate your help though.

  • Does MBA's Lion Recovery require Apple ID when re-installing OS?

If you bought Lion via Mac App Store, and you want to re-install it using Lion Recovery mode, IT DOES require Apple ID to certificate your purchase history. This is the case when you bought Lion separated from your Mac.
However, I'm just curious the case of purchasing Mac with Lion installed by default, just like MacBook Air-2011.
When you want to re-install Lion on your MacBook Air, which came with Lion, using Lion Recovery mode, does it require you to enter your Apple ID to download install files from a server?
I heard, in terms of iLife, when you buy a new Mac now, it asks you your Apple ID on the first start-up and it registers iLife-iMovie,iPhoto,Garageband- to your Mac App Store account's "Purchase History" so you can re-install iLife whenever you want from MAS.
If, Lion goes for the same with the case of iLife, how can I sell my MacBook Air to another person? There's no way I let the buyer use my Apple ID.
iLife-less MacBook Air will do the job but without OS? I can't sell it to another person because OS is a fundamental.
Any experience? Oh, btw, I haven'y bough any Mac with Lion installed by default, which is the reason I'm curious how things work.

Could you tell me more about "one time transfer?" Did you use it as a legal term or a technical term? If it is a technical term, is there a way to transfer my purchase(s) to another person?
It is merely quoted from the Lion SLA (software license agreement) which you can view/download here:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/
    Excerpt:
    3. Transfer.
    A. If you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled on Apple-branded hardware, you may make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software (in its original form as provided by Apple) to another party, provided that: the Apple Software is transferred together with your Apple-branded hardware; (ii) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, printed materials and this License; (iii) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (iv) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License. For purposes of this License, if Apple provides an update (e.g., version 10.7 to 10.7.1) to the Apple Software, the update is considered part of the Apple Software and may not be transferred separately from the pre-update version of the Apple Software.
    B. If you obtained your license to the Apple Software from the Mac App Store or on Apple-branded physical media, it is not transferable. If you sell your Apple-branded hardware to a third party, you must remove the Apple Software from the Apple-branded hardware before doing so, and you may restore your system to the version of the Apple operating system software that originally came with your Apple hardware (the “Original Apple OS”) and permanently transfer the Original Apple OS together with your Apple hardware, provided that: the transfer must include all of the Original Apple OS, including all its component parts, printed materials and its license; (ii) you do not retain any copies of the Original Apple OS, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (iii) the party receiving the Original Apple OS reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of the Original Apple OS license.

  • How can I download lion from Mac app store in recovery mode on an imac?

I bought a mid-2007 imac from a friend, who the computer was working perfectly for. When I went to start up it wouldn't start up (past the gray screen) from the regular HD no matter how many tricks I tried (resetting SMC, PRAM, etc), so I went in to recovery mode. I verified and repaired the disc more than once (even though it said it was fine), and tried to reinstall lion from the online recovery function but it said "item temporarily unavailable." I basically tried every combo of things possible before erasing the HD but nothing worked, so then I decided to erase the HD.
SO that happened, and now I can still boot up in recovery mode and it -seems- like if I can find a way to reinstall lion (which was the last os running), I may be back in business.
however, see the problem with "item temporarily unavailable."
I decided to purchase it from the Mac store online on a different device and it says it will email me a link in 1-3 business days (really??! That long to save me with an EMAIL LINK???), and my thought is that maybe I can log in to my email from the safari window and download it that way. I'm just afraid that I won't be able to access the Mac app store if that is where it downloads from.
Ultimately, I'm trying to avoid a trip to the Apple Store because this thing will be a nightmare to lug on public transportation. My questions for you are as follows:
    - how likely do you think it is that I'll be able to successfully download lion from the email link in recovery mode?
    - Do actual discs with lion exist anywhere in the wide world? If so, how can I get one?
    - would it be worth it to grab an old lion usb stick from amazon?
    - is there ANY other way to reinstall lion or install a new os on this thing without physically taking the computer anywhere?

What a silly company , i have the same exact problem with my macbook pro and i've checked every topic that mention this problem and they didn't solve it .

I have an early 2008 Macbook, running on OS X Lion 10.8, purchased second hand from Ebay in the UK, and now I am based in Israel.
For the last few days, my macbook started to run very slowly, crashing every time i opened a web browser for example.
I decided to erase the drive. I did this by booting up in recovery mode, and through disk utility erasing the drive.
Now my problem is that I cannot reinstall Lion, because my Apple ID has never purchased Lion.
I have thought about using another computer to access the Apple store, purchase Lion, then go back to my macbook and see if my apple ID works when trying to reinstall Lion. (I have realised however, that Lion 10.8 is no longer available in the apple store, and that only mountain lion can be purchased. My macbook is early 2008, and therefore not compatible with mountain lion)
Another idea I had was to use another computer to download Lion 10.8, save it to my external hard drive, and boot from that external hard drive. However, again, 10.8 no longer available)
I tried doing these things in safari in recovery mode, however I am not able to download anything, not even to my external hard drive.
Another idea I had was using someone elses Apple ID who has purchased lion, when trying to reinstall in recovery mode.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm running out of ideas. I also don't know anyone nearby who has a macbook or would have a version of Lion I could boot off a memory stick.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yeah same exact problem as me.  EXACTLY.  In a way I'm glad more than just me are having the problem so I know it's probably not on my end and on the apple side....I HOPE that is what it is.
MAN, a whole day and a half????  Crap I need my phone to work....
I really think it's the apple servers because it errors 3014 right when iTunes says "verifying phone....." something....  It goes away so fast I can't read the rest, but I think that is the step where it verifies phone to the apple servers, which are overloaded, I assume.
It's gotta be that.  How many other people are having this same exact issue?

  • Unrestricted internet access in recovery mode?

    Hi all
I've discovered that when I reboot into recovery mode (Cmnd-R) Safari has unrestricted internet access. This is quite a concern for me as I've got young kids using my computer. I don't want them figuring out that using recovery mode is a way to get around my parental controls.
I've set up parental controls for the guest account and the kids accounts but recovery mode still seems to be unrestricted. Does anyone know how I can restrict Safari?
    Thanks very much
    Seb

You can set an 'EFI password' to prevent anyone using the startup commands. It will require the password to use target disk mode & the cmd+R etc.
The Apple docs seem old (& I can't see a new version).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
Intel Macs have EFI, not 'Open Firmware' so the instructions are different.
    This seems to cover it…

Just don't ever forget it, some models require an Apple technician to unlock!

  • Safari keeps asking for Keychain Access

Everytime I use Safari after some time it asks for Keychain access. I disabled the autofill forms feature already, but it does not stop asking. Does anybody know how to keep Safari from doing this without disabling the password protection of my keychain?
Honestly said, this erraneous behaviour keeps me from using Safari as Firefox does not make such strange attempts to use Keychain.

I didn't think before reading this discussion to be related, but now I tend to believe it may be. I've recently started using Papers.app and to get access to some publications under institutional subscription I have to configure both Papers.app and Safari to be authenticated connecting to Internet through my institution's proxy. The problem is that now the keychain access manager keeps asking authorization every now and then what really has become a heavy nuisance, not only occurring while a keep Safari open, but also while using any other application which try to connect to the Internet such as iTunes or Fission.app. Before I started using Papers.app I had devoted one browser to download articles nder subscription in order to limit such nuisance to the time I was browsing them. However, using Papers.app I've been forced to configure Safari to that purposes, reproducing the annoying effects every time I open any application which are connecting to the Internet. I posted a message in the Papers.app but nobody has replied so far. I thought of changing the browser used by Papers.app would help, unfortunately, I couldn't find any way to get so. Now that it seems there is a way to prevent the system from asking for keychain access, it may fix the problem. This is the message I posted in Papers' Support Forum. I'd really appreciate any help or suggestion:
Can Papers.app use a different browser other than Safari to get authentication from my institution's proxy?
I am at the University of Barcelona (UB), Spain, we also have an automatic proxy-cache configuration URL (like johnraekwon at the U of Manchester)
    http://www.bib.ub.edu/pac/proxy.pac
Every time I open the browser I've configured to connect through your University proxy, I get a drop down menu to authenticate with and then I proceed to the URL I head to, only now with UB credentials. More or less like johnraekwon has to do.
Unfortunately this aunthentication doesn't last for long, you are often requested to authenticate again and again. This nuisance made me decide to devote a browser different from the default browser to download articles, and it's being working rather satifactorily while I only used that browser to download papers from the Internet.
Now that I tried configuring Papers.app to download those articles which requiring subscription I've found that it only works as long as Safari is configured in the same way, that is, it has to authenticated by the proxy to get access to the Internet. I wouldn't mind using Safari exclusively to browse papers. The problem is that most other applications are also using Safari as default browser and it doesn't seem it can be changed, among them iTunes, which I usually open to download podcasts. Since I've configured Safari to get access through my institution's proxy, it keeps asking me to authenticate, and halting every task in process by doing so.
For most purposes I don't need to get authorized access, so I wish my default browser not being configured in such a painful manner.
I'd like to know whether I can change some of Papers.app options to replace Safari as default browser by, I say, Firefox, therefore limiting those repetitive authentications to just the time I'm browsing papers. It let Safari idle to be configured as a default browser to smoothly work for other purposes such as iTunes.
Thanks for the interest. Any idea will be welcomed.

  • How do I fix Mountain Lion issue after login where Keychain Access attempts to open, hanging up with "application not responding" message?

How do I fix Mountain Lion issue after login where Keychain Access attempts to open, hanging up with "application not responding" message?

You could try booting into Safe Mode to see if that will help. And "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility.
Have you got Keychain set to open on Login or is it attempting to open on it's own.

  • I did a backup on my iPod touch and it said it worked...but now it won't let me access anything and says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this IPod before it can be used."  I will lose all my videos and pics if I do that

I did a backup on my iPod touch last night and it said it worked...I wanted to make sure my 1100 pictures and videos, mostly of my son, were safe since we rarely use the iPod touch anymore since we bought an iPad...I can't find them or I have no idea how to access them...I do not have a MAC...I have an HP computer with windows...
Now when I try to use my iTunes a message comes up that says my iPod is on recovery mode and has to do a restore to use my iTunes again...so when u click on that it states that pushing that button will restore my iPod touch to its factory settings...which means I will lose all my data...which I CANNOT do bc the videos of my son are some of his first words, first giggles, etc.
Now my iPod is stuck on a screen with a picture of a USB cord and an iTunes icon... and holding the power and push buttons down at the same time does nothing except bring up the apple icon for a moment and then it goes right back to the USB and iTunes icon
When I called Apple they said in order to talk to tech support I had to pay a fee of 19 dollars...which I think is kind of crap...I paid over 300 dollars for this and all I want is somebody to help me access my pics...I have done nothing wrong...this iPod was never dropped and never broke...I did the backup like I was supposed to and now I have an IPod touch that does nothing, and if my library of pics and videos are on my computer, I have no clue where or how to view them or back them up onto DVD....
I'm very upset and frustrated...please help!!!

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.
