Safari Restoring After Restart With Dual Monitors

I'm on 10.9.4 and for the last few versions of Marvericks, when rebooting Safari never restores itself to the monitor i left it on. It seems to restore to the default. Other than Skype, no other apps exhibit this. I see no other issues with Safari. Anyone experiencing this or similar?

Reading your post full screen mode is working as Apple intended it to. When you set full screen mode on an app that has the ability it makes it full screen on the Mac and any other monitor is left blank while viewing that app. Currently there are no adjustments to change this. I would recommend providing feedback to Apple at www.apple.com/feedback to let them know what you anticipated.

Extra Notes: I have another desktop session with awesome installed(uninstalled now) and could log into that no problem. Awesome was giving me troubles so I uninstalled it. I have 2 gnome desktop sessions, my regular gnome session(the one that crashes), and the other with no window manager(never crashed on startup).
I installed awesome around the same time as configuring the dual monitor setup.
    Thanks.

    Update.
The crashes are to be expected now. I'm circumventing the whole thing by logging into my other Gnome session without a window manager, logging out and then logging back into my regular Gnome with Metacity.
I've noticed the tty1 sessions(not sure what's it's called) is strange. Apparently my session runs on tty8 but when I try logging in, it'll crash me and tty7 gives me a blank screen with a blinking underscore. The other tty1s work regularly. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.
Is there a way to just reset the Gnome settings?

  • Need to launch Organizer Twice to work with Dual Monitors

If I open a project or either Photoshop Elements 10 or PRE10 and then click on Organizer it loads, but sits in the taskbar below. If I hover over it the AERO Windows (Win 7) pops up showing it's loaded. But It will not maximize. This is when I had last used it on a second monitor so I can easily compare before and afters. However, if I right click on it and close it, then reopen it, it launches perfectly in the 2nd monitor. Does this every time. I ussually leave it open all the time now to avoid this but I don't know how sesitive the catalogs are if the system is rebooted for some reason.
I did no specific configuration for dual monitors, Just dragged it over there when I wanted to use it.
    Thanks,

  • Unwanted keyboard shortcut with dual monitors

    Problem:
I have a computer setup with dual monitors (desktop extended). When I have a window open, e.g., Microsoft Word 2007, after I type "1" on the keyboard, the Word Window and mouse relocate to the second monitor. When I type "2" the Word window and mouse relocate
to the main monitor. In the word document, 1 and 2 are typed in the document, but pushing the keys still move the window and mouse to the opposing monitor.
I checked the keyboard settings within Windows and found that sticky keys and such are not enabled. The keyboard has no such features to enable. I also checked the display setup in display properties and found nothing that would indicate such a setup. Google
searches return nothing related to my problem.
    What I do know:
-The rest of the numbers on the keyboard work fine. Pressing 1 and 2 on the number pad at the far right of the keyboard do not transfer the active window to the second monitor. Those keys work fine.
-The type of window does not matter. Using notepad, word, excel, internet explorer, sticky notes; all of those windows would transfer to the opposing monitor when I push 1 and 2.
    Setup:
    Windows XP
    Dual-Monitor
    Wireless Keyboard and mouse

This pertains to StarTech DVI to USB adapters.
There's an icon in your system tray near the clock, either super utility or usb display device. Right click, and select multi display control panel.

There's a button to disable as long as you have the newer driver from their website. The old drivers had a bug that caused this button to not work

  • [SOLVED] openbox margins with dual monitors

    Hi community,
I have stumbled to a nasty problem on my first incursion to dual monitors in openbox.
I'm using xrandr with this command (which works just fine BTW):
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --primary --output VGA-0 --mode 1280x1024_60.00 --gamma 1.0:1.4:0.85 --right-of LVDS
and have set a Virtual screen in xorg.conf of 2560 x 1024 pixels.
But, my laptop monitor only handles 1280x800, while my external LCD monitor has 1280x1024, so there is a virtual area under my laptop screen which i'm not using, but i dont really care about that.
The problem is that when I'm setting screen margins, so that maximized windows will respect the panels in the bottom (tint2), in rc.xml (or by obconf) the margins are applied to the virtual screen and only are practical on the external monitor wich has more pixel height.
I'm really missing some kind of per monitor margin settings in openbox, maybe there is and i haven't found it? It makes me wonder because openbox can maximize windows to a single monitor, even if the whole layout it's treated like a virtual screen, so it has some way of distinguishing between them.
I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

TL;DR - I'm not aware of any acceptable solution at the moment.
Basically, what you're having problems with, is the "dead area." It can really be quite a pain in the butt if window managers or other screen aware applications don't anticipate it properly. To my knowledge, Openbox doesn't support margins on a monitor-by-monitor basis. In reality, you shouldn't need to be setting margins anyway. Tint2 should be reporting itself as a taskbar, and Openbox should be respecting that.
I have dead area too, with multiple monitors, and Openbox respects both of the KDE taskbars I have running (one on each monitor). (I use KDE and simply replaced Kwin with Openbox.) This tells me that tint2 should be able to cooperate with Openbox. I remember trying tint2 a while ago, and didn't fine it adequate in a dual monitor environment (it was probably a year ago or so). tint2 would need to be setting the _NET_WM_STRUT_PARTIAL hint, and I'm not sure if it is (or if it's doing it properly). See http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spe … #id2507618
Also, I do know that the developer for Openbox recently got a dual monitor setup, and she's been adding additional support for dual monitors a little at a time. Hopefully with 3.5, there will be a lot more support. (Margin support for multiple monitors would be great, because it could be a good utility knife for applications that don't care about multi-monitors setups and don't set the proper hints.)
If you're capable of modifying tint2, my course of action would be to try something that works (like the KDE taskbars) and record the hints being set there. Then compare them with tint2 and try to mirror KDE's setup. (If you're a programming lacking experience with X and related nonsense, I'd be more than willing to offer what guidance I have.)
Also, I developed a panel myself (and got pretty far along) using the PyGTK toolkit... But I can't remember if I solved this problem or not. I'll try to check it out and get back to you. (I got as far as implementing a widget system that includes a task list, system tray, clock, menus... It just isn't polished very well. My original intention was for it to be a more robust PyPanel with dual monitor support.)

  • Visualise Spots with dual monitors

I'm finding some eratic behaviour when using Visualise Spots with dual monitors.
I have Development open on one window and the Loupe view open on the other. When I click on the Visualise Spots both windows show the visualisation. When I click the button off - both windows switch to normal view - most of the time.
Occasionally it will switch off in the Development view but stay on the Loupe view on the second monitor. It only goes away when I switch to another image.
Is anyone else seeing this behaviour?
    Roy

I have found that's it's linked to zoom level.
I can't quite make out what's going on but the behaviour is very strange.

  • Interfacing with dual-monitor machine

    Hello all--
I've got a G5 at home with dual monitors on which I run 3D animation software with lots of panels. I'd like to be able to control the G5 from work using a laptop (possibly also connected to an external monitor). Is it possible to display both screens of the desktop using ARDv3 on the laptop? Some users have mentioned they can do this but the size of the remote screens is unsatisfactory. So, again, can you visualize both screens well via the remote computer?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

you can view both screens at once but it will be scaled to fit on the screen you have... so what you see is dependent on the resolution of both client monitors and your admin computer's monitor.
you can also select to view a single monitor of the client computer.
i've never run ARD admin on a computer with 2 monitors so i'm not sure how it handles it but i'm guessing that you can view both monitors on both admin monitors.... it'll probably scale down or up dependent on resolution.

how much time ipod needs to restore after plugging with external power?

Restore? Do you mean power on after it's been drained for awhile? It depends how long it's been dead. Sometimes it can take awhile (10-20 minutes maybe more) in some cases.

  • Screensaver issue with dual monitors

My screensaver has recently started acting up. It's sort of a minor blip, but it worked before and now it won't. Here's the issue: I have dual monitors (Intel imac, running Leopard, with a Viewsonic 20" lcd running in extended desktop mode). I use a "smart" album from iphoto as a screensaver (iphoto 08, v7.1.5). I've been using this particular smart album for several months as my screensaver and it's worked fine. How it used to work: when the screensaver activates (either by time or by hot corner) both screens would draw photos from this album and randomly scroll, zoom, and fade them across each monitor, independently but simultaneously. It's worked like this flawlessly for years, with several different iphoto albums. Now, I just noticed that the second monitor does not find the pictures. A message on screen "looking for pictures" appears on both monitors, as normal, but instead of both monitors going to screensaver, only the imac starts, and the message "looking for pictures" stays on the other. What's weird is that if I run the screensaver in test mode, it works like it used to (both screens work independently and simultaneously). And if I switch to one of Apple's supplied screensavers, both screens work as well. But any iphoto album no longer works properly. I don't understand what has changed. I just recently ran an upgrade (Software Upgrade, a week or so ago) but it seems like it worked normally since then, and I don't believe the upgrade was a major one or had anything to do with iphoto. I just noticed this problem today. I've tried restarting the machine. Same issue. Any ideas what could be causing this minor, yet annoying, glitch.

I had this same problem arise after installing an iPhoto update in late January. I contacted AppleCare and the problem was escalated to a Product Specialist. The Product Specialist contacted Apple Engineering and Engineering 1) replicated the problem and 2) confirmed that it's a bug.
So, Apple is aware they have a bug and we look forward to a bug fix -- at some point in the future. I hoped the problem would be fixed with the next iPhoto update but a major update came out today and the problem remains. I don't know if there's any way to know whether the problem is an OS bug or an iPhoto bug but either way we have to wait until it reaches the top of the pile at Apple...

  • Mac and Windows with dual monitors Question

I use a Intel MacPro running Tiger with latest updates in my church. We use the Mac and Keynote 2.0.2 to present PowerPoint slides on the big screen (dual outputs). Everything was going well until the pastors upgraded to new computers running Vista and Office 2007. Now neither pastor's files will load into Keynote. It comes up with an error. The pastors have saved their files from PP as 2003 PPT files, and they still will not open. Error - unable to open file type. The one pastor went back to XP (dumped Vista) but still used the Office 2007 program and saved as PP2003, but the error still appears.
FYI - I noticed that Office 2007 saves with a file with the extension of .pptx instead of the .ppt. Checking the file they gave me shows that it is indead a .ppt file and not .pptx file. It makes no difference.
I believe it is an Office 2007 problem I'm dealing with. I have taken the .ppt file and loaded it onto the PC running PP 2003 and it loads fine, except for some format problems. I then resave it with a different name and tried to load that file (hoping it was converted) , with the same error showing. The problem is transfered with the file. Other files created with the PP 2003 program load fine into Keynote, so it has to be the Office2007 doing something.
So the questions are, is there an easy fix and still use the Keynote program, OR does Keynote 3 take care of this problem in the upgrade, OR should I install Win XP home or Pro and use parallels (which I have)? Would WinXP Home be enough to support the dual outputs and be fast enough? I am familiar with XP Pro not Home.
Any information you may have, could be a help. I need this resolved soon. I hate having to bring in the old Windows PC, after enjoying the quality of the Mac.

Thanks David - glad to here the Mini supports dual monitors, and you're not having any streaming issues. Did you have any special settings, like "no hardware acceleration"? Are you streaming HD content?
If it supports dual monitors, then I would think the iPad could be used as a second display and input device - the demos I've seen with Air Display (from Avatron Software") would accomplish what I'm looking for. Here is a demo at http://www.vimeo.com/16950420 showing the iPad working with a Windows machine, but I've seen them working with Macs as well.

  • MacBook Pro, 10.6.3 hangs after login with external monitor

    Howdy:
This is a weird one and if this isn't the correct forum, please let me know.
I have a two year old MBP that I use 99% of the time with a 30" Apple monitor. It has always worked well. Now, if it is attached to the monitor and I log in, the machine just hangs after I put in the password. It does this also in the troubleshooting "blank" account I have. If I shut the machine down and detach the monitor and external drives, it logs me in nicely. (I'm using it now)
I have restarted from the 10.6 install disk and repaired permissions twice. I have reloaded 10.6 and then did the updatede to 10.6.3. I have used Disk Utility and TechToolPro to repair everything and both say all is okay. Still the problem persists. However, when I reloaded 10.6 and updated it, it logged me in with the monitor once and then when I logged out to restart it, it stopped again.
Could it be a problem with 10.6.3 and external monitors? I don't think so as it worked for a while with it before this started.
The only connection I can find is the monitor.
Does anyone have any clue what is going wrong and what I might do to fix it? Thanks

I need to hang my head in shame. The solution, once found was simple and took only seconds and it was merely a software conflict. I should have gotten that one myself but didn't, because, believe it or not, I didn't think the software was running and I simply forgot about it to begin with.
It turns out, I had Intego Software's Virus Barrier on my computer and it was running. I knew I had it, but thought I had disabled it because it was forever throwing a hissy fit every time my Apple TV checked in. Last week, I updated it without thinking. Apparently, that re-enabled it and it was rejecting the internal process change from the machine-wide log-in screen to the account log-in screen.
The point is I should have remembered that I had updated it and I didn't. If I had recalled the change, I would have zeroed in on that before I spent hours at the Genius Bar, befuddling everyone. On the other hand, it was nice to take my 30" monitor for a nice outing.

  • New ATI 4870 - No Video with dual Monitors

I have just received my ATI 4870 and am having some very unique problems. I have a dual display setup (NEC 2690WUXi2, Apple LED CD) running as an extended desktop. I have 2 Intel SSD X25-M in raid 0 as my boot drive in bay 1 and 2 of my Mac Pro 2.26.
The ATI card will not supply video when booted from the SSDs if both monitors are hooked up. The video stops abruptly right after the NEC is fed a signal and both monitors go blank. If only the Minidisplayport is used I get video and can subsequently plug in the NEC to the DVI port for dual displays. If I boot from one of my outboard clones the system will give me video on both monitors. I am also able to boot successfully from a SATA clone in Bay 1.
The computer boots flawlessly with 2 monitors when using the stock GT120 video card - this is from any source SSDs, outboard, etc. I have a 'clean' install of OSX with no programs that also has the same problems - no video from the 4870 and works flawlessly with the stock GT120.
If both video cards are installed I have a flawless boot. The NEC is attached to the ATI card and the Apple LED is attached to the GT120. Everything works like a champ. My thoughts are that this may be some timing issue with the SSDs and the ATI card when used alone. I can't think of any other explanation. Does anyone have a suggestion if I want to use just the ATI card?

You're sig says you have a 2009 mac pro. If so, you shouldn't need the drivers anyway as your 10.5.6 preloaded should already be the "special" version.
The beta drivers link pretty much pertained only to 2006 to 2008 mac pros ordering the 4870. As their 10.5.6 was the "plain" version.
What might be a culprit is that apple is shipping updated versions of the 4870 (different device/revision IDs). The beta drivers were taken from pre-release builds of 10.5.7 sent to devs. Maybe the updated versions are not jiving with the beta drivers, and made in particular for 10.5.7.
Well if any consolation, 10.5.7 may be as close as this week.

  • OpenGL freezes computer with dual monitors and fglrx

I am trying to use the fglrx driver, and with a single monitor I seem to have gotten everything working.
However I am running into issues with two monitors. Basically, when I have two monitors any opengl program doesn't run properly.
There are two cases. If I use the xorg.conf generated by "aticonfig --initial", it still seems to detect the other monitor (although there is a black region on my gnome desktop). If an opengl program is run, the screen goes crazy where random pixels are changing different colors. I can end the program, and everything goes back to normal.
Using the program "amdcccle" I generated xorg.conf for dual monitors (I pasted it below). When I use this configuration, any opengl program completely freezes the computer instantly.
I have been looking for a while, but have not found any information that might lead to a solution. Does anyone here have any advice?

    Hello.
I put my second monitor of a dual monitor set-up to the left of the main monitor - the one with the FC application, keyboard and mouse, etc. Trouble is the mouse kept hitting the left hand wall of my main monitor when I tried to send it to the second monitor. After a while I realized the mouse/computer thinks the second monitor is to its right, so I have to exit the right hand side of the main monitor to get to the one on the left.
Is there any way to instruct FC and the mouse that the second monitor is on the left? Can the mouse be instructed to "pass" through the left hand wall of the main monitor rather than the right? Or must the second monitor always go the right of the main monitor?
    Thanks.

  • T61 worked with Dual Monitors and now it does not

I'm having trouble getting two monitors to work. They used to work fine. There have been no changes to hardware. Now the DVI monitor is blank. The DVI monitor does work with other computers (I'm working through a KVM switch).
    T61 running XP Pro
    Docking station
    Worked well in the past
Took laptop to a meeting and used VGA and Laptop displaying the same information (needed to fool around with a few things to get that to work (FN-F7, Presentation Director, not really sure what worked)
Came back to docking station and my second monitor does not work anymore.
    Control Panel
Shows two monitors (1 Bright, 2 Grayed)
Can select and choose extend on the second monitor (1 Bright, 2 Bright)
Apply reverts to (1 Bright and 2 Grayed)
    NVIDIA Control Panel\
Set up multiple displays show choice is Only use one display (Single)
    Second monitor choice is grayed
    Presentation Director
No option is shown for two monitors
    Laptop and monitor choices exist
    BIOS Display
Tried Internal and PCI options (no joy with either)
Display is set to VGA & DVI
    Any suggestions??

The docking station is a type 2504. I have both the VGA and the DVI port hooked up to identical flat screen monitors. I have no intention of messing with that because the setup is working successfully via a KVM switch. Both ports and both monitors are working. However, there is a problem with swithching modes with the Lenovo laptop. The problem does not exist with any other computer working through the KVM switch.
    Please note that:
this Laptop on this docking station, at my home, with all wiring and monitors unchanged, has worked for a long time.
I took the laptop off the docking station, went to a meeting, hooked up to a projector, and successfully configured the laptop such that the laptop screen and the projector were displaying the same screen at the meeting.
Then, I brought the laptop back to the same old docking station at my home and tried to regain use of my dual monitors unsuccessfully.
Using Control Panel display, and all sorts of combinations of NVIDIA Control Panel, the 2nd monitor would not be consistently detected by NVIDIA Control Panel. During these attempts, on a few occasions, I had an option to Set Up Multiple Displays in NVIDIA Control Panel; but there was no success in choosing this option. Returning to NVIDIA Control Panel / Displays would not present Set Up Multiple Displays as a valid option (not present or greyed - can't remember). I even went through permutations with the laptop screen open and closed, warm boots, cold boots, searchign for new hardware, etc. Nothing was successful.
Although changing the display within Windows Control Panel / Display was an option, any attempt to extend or replicate the dispay on the second monitor would fail and Windows Control Panel / Display would go back to the single monitor configuration was not successful and effectively ignored by both Windows Control Panel / Display and NVIDIA Control Panel.
You may note the use of past tense. I simply gave up and went to doing productive work on one monitor. After a few weeks, I went back to NVIDIA Control Panel and the second monitor was detected.  I was able to Display / Set-up Multiple Displays via NVIDIA Control Panel. Subseaquently, I was able to use Windows Control Panel Display to enable and configure the second monitor and both monitors started working again (without having made any changes to wiring etc).
I don't believe there is any difference in how I used NVIDIA Control Panel on this successful attempt than in any of the earlier failed attempts. There seems to be some sort of a problem with getting the Lenovo to recognize that the second monitor is really there. Please addess this part of the problem as I expect to repeat the process in an upcoming meeting with this laptop.
