Safari takes ages contacting websites

I have recently purchased a macbook pro. I also have a powerbook g4. Both are used on the same wireless network but for some reason the powerbook loads pages much faster in safari. The macbook pro seems to stall when prompted to load a page for example I just tried to search in the google search bar and it said "contacting google" in the status bar for a long time. However once it has contacted the website in question it seems to load the page quickly. This isn't a question of a slow internet connection cause I get very fast download and upload speeds when dealing with individual files etc. Is this a DNS issue?I'd love to sort it as I do like safari and would like to stick with it. Any help much appreciated

I have nothing in the dns servers box of my airport settings either. Not sure if that makes a difference.
It may. Follow these Network suggestions and see if it makes a difference:
Open System Preferences>Network panel
-Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
-Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Check "Airport" and deselect the others, unless you use a BlueTooth device. Move Airport to the top of the list. Select "apply".
-Back to the "Show" menu, select "Airport". Click on the TCP panel. There, enter on separate lines in the DNS servers box 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 (these are Verizon codes, available to anyone). If you use Earthlink or Comcast, they utilize their own codes).
Creating a personal location, plus adding the DNS codes seems to speed things up. Otherwise, the "automatic" function has a tendency to "search" for available locations, hence creating the lag.
In the Finder, go to your Utilities folder and select "Terminal". Once the screen is open copy/paste lookupd -flushcache and press return. This clears out the DNS cache. Once done, quit Terminal.
Restart the computer/Safari.

Safari can't contact websites that load fine in Firefox... With a twist.

Hi Tiger on an Ibook G4 patched/updated to the latest of everything except Itunes.
I can't access a number of websites. It only happens at my office so I had assumed they blocked them (weird since it is a very random collection of them). Finally a coworker sent me a link and I casually said thats a blocked site and they looked at me funny. I then tried Firefox and it worked fine.
All these sites work fine in Safari on the public wifi and my cellular internet stick.
The exact error it shows, for example "Contacting www.apple.com" and just sits. Other times on sites that load part of a site from another site, the main page loads and say the comments section will never load.
Itunes will no longer access the itunes store at work either I assume since it uses some component of Safari to get there.
I have reinstalled Safari from the full apple download since the first was an update via the updater. Repaired permissions, cleared out the cache and cookies. Deleted a bunch of the plugins.
I used the developer menu to disable Java, no help.
One other detail that may matter, this started also about the same time they replaced a server that handles our DHCP leases at work. I'm not sure if it handles DNS too but it would be strange for Firefox to work and not Safari.
Perplexed and annoyed by having to use Firefox and no Itunes downloading.

We don't use any proxies servers.
I tried pointing my ethernet DNS entries to the Open DNS nameservers and it has made no difference. Firefox still works and Safari won't.
The network topology is a bit weird, our NAT Router used to hand out the IP leases a long time ago. That was replaced 2 or 3 years ago with the Windows Server. When the windows server is down the whole network loses internet access despite the NAT Router still having the DSL plugged into it so obviously all the internet traffic is being routed through the windows box somehow.

Google, Facebook etc take ages to load on Safari (and Firefox)

There have been a few threads on this issue...but none seem to have a solution that works for us.
We have two laptops (MacBook (MB) and MacBook Pro (MBP)) using an airport wireless. The MP has all of a sudden decided that google and facebook will not load up straight away like they have always done in the past...they take ages to load up (we are talking "go get a coffee..and read the newspaper" times). Other websites just fire up as fast as ever. All sites fire up super fast on the MBP.
What we have tried:
1. Rebooted the modem, wireless router and computers
2. Reset Safari, deleted and reinstalled Firefox 4.0.1. Wiped out all caches , cookies etc
3. Restored entire computer from time tunnel from a month ago...when life was good!
4.. Changed/added DNS numbers to airport (via airport utilities) and change the airport settings (using openDNS numbers).
5. Flushed the DNS resolver caches...
Still no good....
What are we missing? What can the MB have to cause the issue that the MPB does not?
MB is on OSX 10.5.8
MBP is on OSX 10.6.7
Please help...my wife uses the MB and is angry that her beloved Facebook and Google are just not working

Ok.. from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari, try Facebook.
If it's not Extensions... try troubleshooting Safari third party add ons.

My imac 21" takes ages to load videos and websites. HELP

i have a imac 21" that i got like 4 months ago and it was running safari and google chrome very fast but now its is very slow it takes ages for it to load a video from youtube or any other place and it takes longer time for it to load a page then it did befor...
when i first got it i could open 1080 HD videos from youtube easly and the hole thing would load very fast but now i takes like 10 mins to load a very short video thats like 360p... Befor it could open a page in like 1 second and now its takes like 1 minute for it to load a very simple page...
I have alot of memory left and i have ATT u-vers internet, and other apps that need internet run normal like itunes, twitter...
plz help its getting really annoying. sometimes when i play Starcraft 2 it kinda slow too.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

Macbook 2.2ghz Leopard wont auto update (says it cant connect to internet??) also safari and chrome take ages to open and frequently crash. Help!

Here goes...
1) I have a Macbook 2.2ghz (early 2008) running Leopard 10.5.8 which wont auto update (says it cant connect to internet even though it is - error says A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.) Network diagnostcs says that im connected to the intermet.
2) Also safari and chrome take ages to load pages when every time I open them (around 45 seconds) and then when they are running safari will randomly close and chrome will come up with the aw snap message for random pages (doesnt matter if its trying to loas flash or not).
Iv got Sophos anti virus which is saying theres no malware or viruses, also tried restartiing, re downloading chrome, deleteing my profile from chrome, exporting, deleting and then importing bookmarks and hardwiring the latop to the router. None of these fixed the issues.
Never had these issues and they are really getting on my nerves! Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your reply gdgmacguy :) I did all you suggested apart from restore as new device . Didn't know I could do that . After restore I did restore from back up only, as I didn't want to end up without contacts details on my phone. If I restore as new device how do I get my all contacts? I've been building a site in Muse successfully until today when I get this error message in the browser, publishing to business catalyst as a test bed:

Clearing the cache has no effect and I have checked the assets and there are no error symbols. This happened after trying a google translate code in the <head> and a HTML snippet on the master template, I've since removed it but that the last action I took that I can think may have had an effect.
Viewing the source of the page in Safari hash;t helped other than it shows ALOT of html (including some elements i can;t relate to in my site design) and states there are three errors:

I started this site in Muse CC and then recently upgraded to Muse CC 2014, and I had install issues so deleted the original program (this then forced the download of the new version which was not automatically downloading even though CC notified me that an update was required.

Same problem here but it has nothing to do with a cellular connection.
Created the site http://www.blackdot.com in Muse 7.4.3 with no issues. Just updated the .muse file today to Muse CC 2014 and reloaded to our web server. Now I am getting the error "Some files on the server may be missing or incorrect." when viewing the site from the latest version of all browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) on a Mac and all browsers on a PC (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Explorer), also mobile Safari on an iPad.
My connection is wired broadband, not a mobile or wireless connection. I am not using the Muse "Upload to FTP host…" option and will not be using it. I am simply exporting as HTML and copying the files to my server. I have deleted all files from the web server and recopied the updated site with the same error result. This is the exact same procedure I used to load the initial site with the prior version of Muse.
It does not seem like there is an existing solution to this problem although many others are experiencing it. It looks like I will need to manually edit each page to remove the error message coding from the html files. Any tips on how to strip out the alert message from the html?
UPDATE
For anyone else experiencing this issue, I was able to edit the .html files for my site to remove the code responsible for this alert message. If you wish to edit your .html files you must make the same edit to every .html file in your site export including the top level "index.html" and all .html files inside the "tablet" and "phone" folders if you have them.
The coding to remove is at the bottom of each .html file:
(Muse.assets.outOfDate.length||Muse.assets.required.length)&&alert("Some files on the server may be missing or incorrect. Clear browser cache and try again. If the problem persists please contact website author.")
Make sure you do not remove any semicolons or braces {} when making this edit. Just remove the text shown above. You will obviously need to remake these edits if you export your site as HTML in the future.

Ipad3 takes ages to load new emails

Hi, I have an iPad 3 and an IPhone 4, and since last week they both take ages to download any new emails, 5 to 7 minutes to open an email.
I went on my PC and it works fine, it's only on my apple products, tried warm reboot, connecting to iTunes etc, but still really slow.
Looked all ver the net but can't find anything about it.

I have no idea what a warm reboot is but have you tried a reset?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Another thing that you could try is to quit the mail app completely (double tap the home button to get to the task bar and tap and hold down on the Mail icon until it wiggles, then tap the minus sign to close the app) and then restart the iPad and see if that helps.
One other thing - turn the mail account off, restart the iPad, then turn the account on again and see if that helps. Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Mail>Off.

TS3474 I play music but it takes ages to load and I only have 250MB of data for music

When I use my iPod I have 3.3GB left memory on a 8GB iPod touch 4th generation and when I play my music it always takes ages to load. I have deleted loads of stuff and I only have 250MB of music but it still takes ages. Why does this happen?

Withut more specific information all I can suggest is the standard fixes:
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Can someone help me getting my web pages to load faster. I
use pictures straight from my Nikon Camera and put them on my
Dreamweaver web pages. When I open my pages on the web it takes
ages for the pictures to load. How can I speed this up. Do I have
to convert the pictures into another format? How do I do this,

Don't use jpgs straight from your Nikon. Those are your
source files and are
designed to be printed. What you want on the web is a version
slimmed down
for the internet. Before you begin archive a copy direct from
your camera to
CD/DVD, back-up hard drive, someplace safe.
Edit, crop or whatever you want to do to make your pictures
better in your
graphics editor of choice. If you have one of the Creative
Suites use
PhotoShop or Fireworks to do that. If not, your Nikon should
have come with
some basic photo editing software.
When you are happy with what you have done to crop your
images resize them
to 72dpi and the dimensions you want the images to appear.
Play with the
compression settings to get the best balance between file
size and image
quality. Remember that on the web you want fast loading so
sacrifice some
image quality. Once you have achieved that balance then
replace your
bloated, ready for print images on your web pages and upload
them all.
Unless you are making the originals available for others to
print remove
them from your website to save you hosting space. If you are
making them
available to print link the larger print ready photo from
your camera (or
the cropped version that is not optimized if appropriate) to
the image you
display on your site. It may be helpful to visitors to know
how large those
linked files are if you make them available for print just to
avoid
surprises for those on slow connections.

FAST enabled MView takes ages to refresh

Hi All,
I have a materlialized view which is based on a single fact table ( OAS_BALANCE_UNIONED 11,445,156 rows) and a bunch of dimension tables each containing limited number of rows (a typical start schema).
The conditioins to make the mview fast refreshable have been met so the mview created successfully with the FAST option.
The mview then worked just fine after than and had been refreshing FAST (6 minutes) for the whole day till other mviews started to refresh in the same time. Some of those mviews read from some of the base tables of the mview in question. Since then, the mivew has started to take ages (3 hours) to refresh. There is surely something wrong because the COMPLETE refresh was faster than that.
Later, I stopped all the refresh jobs of the other mviews. Yet, the FAST mview still has the same problem of taking ages to refresh.
When I monitored the session that refreshes the mview, I noticed in the "Long Ops" that
most of the time is spent on a step named as "Hash Join" (it appears in the Message column). Hash join occurrs because of the outer join.
Why my FAST mview suddenly started to take so long time to refresh?
How can I make my FAST mivew really refresh fast?

Hard to say why the refresh is now slow. Possibilties include
* system resources implemented by the fast refresh
* something changed on the query making the background query run slowly
Look at the query first. 18 tables, with almost every join an outer join. Some of the tables appear more than once in the query.
Get an executioion plan to see how the query is being executed.

I just purchased this movie on Thursday, May 15, so just a few days ago. I have never had any trouble whatsoever since I have been in Vietnam. I have downloaded several movies and even music and they have all synced to my respected Apple products except for this purchase.
