Safari vs Internet Explorer

I just received an IPAD. My main purpose is to be able to access my Realtor Mls Sites for business. They are only compatable with Internet Explorer not Safari. Does anyone know of an APP that may help me.

If the web site is so badly designed as to require Internet Explorer and refuses to accept any other browser, then sorry, but there's nothing you can do other than to use IE on a Windows-based computer, and pressure the site's developers to adopt industry-standard web coding techniques rather than using vendor-proprietary methods.
Regards.

  • Safari and Internet Explorer won't run on my iMac G4 anymore (OS 10.2.8)

    I cant get Safari or Internet Explorer (IE) to work on my iMac anymore. I can get iTines downloads and standard updates, but Safari and IE won't work - usually Safari will open (IE will usually not open completely - hangs up and must be force quit). Safari will hang up when loading a web page. Any ideas?

    Try deleting the preference files for each.
    Go to Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.Safari.plist and com.microsoft.explorer.plist.

  • Updating Safari or Internet Explorer on my new mini

    I just purchased a new Mac Mini. Unfortunately, I used manager assistant incorrectly and transferred everything to my new Mini. Because of that, my desktop and icons look exactly like my old Mac. Also, Safari and Internet Explorer are the same versions as on my old Mac. I can't even open up some web pages with this version of Safari. Surely I did something wrong. Please help me!!!

    Use Pacifist to extract Safari from your computer's installation disks. Your computer did not come with Internet Explorer.

  • Is there a way to change my user agent from Safari to Internet Explorer?

    Hello All,
    I need to fill out a application on line and it appears that it does not recognize Safari.  Sounds like it needs to see IE.  Anyway to temporarily enable IE for this application?  Otherwise I have to go use a PC at the local library....
    These instructions below in no way match my Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my iMac - they don't make sense to me.  Any help/guidance is appreciated to fill out this on-line form.  Thanks!
    Apple Safari
    If using Safari, you must have Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher version or Firefox 2.0.0.12 - Macversion web browser at the "User Agent" category or higher for Firefox. Use the following instructions to configure your Safari browser to access e-QIP.
    On the Menu Bar
    Select Edit box (top of screen)
    Preferences
    Security
    Accept Cookies (only from site that you navigate to)
    Advanced
    Check the box labeled "Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar"
    Click proxies - Change settings box (Opens to Internet Explorer (IE) Properties Boxes)
    Advanced tab
    Security category is located near bottom of page
    Click "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"
    Click "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed"
    Click/enable SSL 2.0
    SSL 3.0
    TLS.1
    Exit Preferences Window
    On Menu Bar select "Develop User Agent"

    John..
    This may work but no guarantees ..
    Launch Safari. From the Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari. From the drop down menu click Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
    Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
    Now from the Safari menu bar again, click Develop > User Agent
    Try IE 7, 8, or 9.

  • Safari and Internet Explorer

    I just purchased a Mac Mini and this is the first Mac. I have owned but have worked with them at work. I've come to a small issue with Internet Explorer and Safari. I would prefer to use I.E. however, when in I.E. and I goto www.securecomputing.com (The top menu bar shows doubles) if I use Safari it doesn't. If in I.E. and I goto www.search.com, I don't see the Search logo at the top. If I use Safari I do. Whats going on in I.E. ? Anyone have any ideas ? If you have any ideas please e-mail me direct to: [email protected]

    Music urls ending in asf are actually scripts calling up the music. Some of these scripts work on the Mac, but some web sites incorporate proprietary Windows-only technologies or else call up music containing Microsoft's Windows-only digital rights management. Sometimes you can look at the source code for the web page and find the address for the actual music file or radio station and you can then cut and paste it into Windows Media Player. If the file does not contain DRM, it should play.

  • JPEG Images Appear different in Safari vs Internet Explorer

    I created a logo for a web site using Photoshop CS2 and noticed that in Safari, the alpha channel (which is supposed to be transparent) gives the logo the appearance of a cream colored background while in Internet Explorer, the logo background has the expected transparent effect.
    Can anyone explain why I am seeing this difference?
    The site is http://polyols.synair.com/toll_manufacturing.htm in case anyone wants to run the comparison themselves. The logo is in the upper right hand corner of the page.
    There is only the one image file for the logo.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff, and welcome to Apple Discussions!
    I have taken a look at the link you provided, but do not see the problem you describe.
    The logo looks the same in both Safari and Explorer on my Mac, as well as Explorer and Firefox on my PC... if you could provide some extra information on which version of OSX you are using, as well as which version of Safari, we may be able to figure out what's happening.
    Maybe you could even upload a screen shot of what your browser displays and provide another link.
    Also, note that your logo is a JPEG, which does not support alpha channels or transparency (as far as I know). It looks to me like it is a flattened image of your logo with a shadow on a plain white background.
    In addition, might I suggest you extend the area below the logo, as the shadow is getting cut off.

  • Safari vrs internet explorer

    I have a problem with accessing sites on the web that do not support safari. my work uses a web based program that requires internet explorer 6 or higher so mac use becomes impossible. I overheard a conversation at the apple store about fooling the web by setting something in safari. I read something in the discussions about enabling the debug menu. Even that is too techno for me.
    In plain language, is there anything I can do to fool the server and do a little catch-up work from home? My work will never change.

    Welcome to Discussions,
    Yes you did hear correctly. The way to fool another web site that is not Safari friendly is to do the following.
    Its called Safari Debug Menu.
    Locate a application called "Terminal" on your Mac and open it.
    You are presented with a window that says "Welcome to Darwin" and then underneath will be some details about your Mac. You will see a cursor. At hat point copy and paste or type in the following.
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
    Then press return key and it will ask you for your password.
    This is your Login, Root user, User, Admin name (whichever).
    Enter Password then hit return.
    Thats it.
    When you open Safari next time you will see the Debug Menu.
    Click on it and go down to 'User Agent' and select the relevent browser.
    If you ever want to get rid of the Debug Menu just type
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 0
    Good Luck and Welcome

  • Page not displaying in Safari and Internet explorer but showing up in Mozila

    Hi,
    I bought this pre-made template which I would like to use for my website. When I upload it to my website and try to open the pages like "Contact us", "News", "Team members" and so on, they are not displaying in Safari and Interner Explorer, but they DO show up in Mozilla. Also, the pages I created myself do show up in all browsers. I really need to fix this problem as I already put a lot of effort to create my web site and now it is not working online. I would really appreciate some help. Here is the link to the original template:

    The tag should read "myself" (no quotes) not "_self".

    For cross OS browser compatibility (and no "embed" tag code) you should consider using javascript:

  • Safari Message: "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Web Site" ?!?!?

    Safari is running strangely on my new MacBook Pro. It has decided to NOT automatically add .com
    when I type an address ..... THEN, when it can't find the website I get the message
    "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Web Site". ***.
    Could the IE I am using when I'm using Windows XP (via Bootcamp) have corrupted Safari somehow?
    Ideas, please! Thanks.

    I found that the DNS settings in system prefs> networks > advanced had been mysteriously changed to something rather "foreign". An archive and Install solved the problem. Did your client happen to install a program called "Glim" (a Safari "enhancer"). That's our suspect.

  • Safari vs Internet explorer question

    We recently got a new system at work that allows us to access our scheduling information over the internet. We use to use citrix to connect to the server to retrieve the info but now we can get it via the internet. My question is, in order to get the scheduloe window to display you must use I.E. 6.0. I have tried Safari, Firefox, Netscape and others but they always get a message that says browser not supported. What could possibly be the difference or reason that one browser would work and all these others cannot display the iformation. The system that we have is made by SABRE. Any help or ideas are appreciated. Our help desk at work are a bunch of idiots.

    It's also entirely possible that the people who built the web application did not want to bother testing the entire thing in other web browsers, without any technical reason to do so. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Mozilla, etc. might do slightly different things for any given web page, and having worked as a developer for 5+ years in companies that build web-based applications, I can tell you with absolute certainty that "the easy way out" is to just say "this thing only works in Internet Explorer, period" and add a check that kicks out any web browser that isn't running Internet Explorer. Follow the instructions in one of the other posts to tell Safari how masquerade as Internet Explorer. I think it's possible to make a similar change to Firefox. Either one, you'll be able to trick the web server into thinking you're running IE and you'll quickly discover if the webapp actually works or not for non-IE browsers.

  • How can I change my default browser from Safari to Internet explorer?

    The problem of Safari freezing (see thread of April 24,2009) has become maddening in my case. If I open an URL received by email it opens automatically in Safari, which soon freezes. I have Explorer for Mac, can I make it my default browser and escape this trouble?

    If you can get into Safari's preferences, change the default browser there. If not, use an application such as RCDefaultApp to change it; some other web browsers also provide this capability.
    You may want to use a browser such as Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.

  • Hotspots not working as expected in Safari and Internet Explorer

    first of all, I am using the double <object> tag with conditional comments to hide the inner <object> tag from IE, to embed a QTVR in a web page (as recommended at A List Apart, see http://www.alistapart.com/articles/byebyeembed for details). I am not using the <object><embed> method any longer since <embed> is not standards-compliant.
    second, see this URI
    http://www.30fps.com/html/aboveCristallinaVREn.html
    and/or check out this code:
    ============
    <object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab"
    width="480" height="302">
    <param name="src" value="../mov/aboveCristallina02VREn.mov">
    <param name="controller" value="false">
    <param name="align" value="middle">
    <param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF">
    <param name="hotspot88" value="<../html/cristallinaVREn.html> T<_self>">
    <!--[if !IE]>-->
    <object type="video/quicktime" data="../mov/aboveCristallina02VREn.mov"

    <param name="hotspot88" value="<../html/cristallinaVREn.html> T<_self>">
    </object>
    <!--<![endif]-->
    </object>
    ============
    this is the code I am currently testing and having issues with, for an embedded QTVR movie with blob hotspots. To see the hotspot in the VR, click the target icon at the right of the controller bar then turn around about 180 degrees.
    1) in IE for PC (tested in v5.5 and v6.0), clicked hotspots invariably open in a new window and I cannot figure out any way of forcing them to load in the same window, even using the following code (greatly abbreviated here, of course):
    <object>
    <param name="hotspotXX" value="target.html">
    <param name="targetXX" value="_self">
    </object>
    or
    <object>
    <param name="hotspotXX" value="<target.html> T<_self>">
    </object>
    2) Safari 3.0.4, the hotspots don't work at all. I can only successfully target a URL with a hotspot, when I use <embed> but as noted above, <embed> is not a W3C-compliant tag and I don't wish to use it any longer.
    Naturally, I tried an extensive Google/Apple mail list search already and can't turn up any viable solutions to either.
    TIA for your help...

  • Firefox won't load any websites, where as Safari and Internet Explorer have no issues.

    I've re-installed Firefox and changed Firefox's proxy settings amongst other suggestions that were made on a similar page. It was Firefox 3.6, but I tried installing the 4 version. And no one has been around to live chat with, pretty lame that its offered if I can't even use it.

    Did you check your security software (firewall)?
    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.
    See [[Server not found]] and [[Firewalls]] and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls
    If you use a Firefox 4 beta release then you should create a new profile exclusively for the 4.0 beta version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.
