Safari weird fullscreen bug

I've got a window in fullscreen mode in Safari that's causing all kinds of weirdness.
With no other windows open, whenever I use the App Switcher to go from another app to Safari, the window shows briefly, then the OS switches to System Preferences with the Desktop & Screensaver pane on display. (??)
Same behavior when I select that window from Safari's Window menu. This behavior persists even when I quit and relaunch Safari.
The problematic window doesn't stay onscreen long enough for me to click the widget to exit fullscreen mode and close the window. Anybody know *** is going on?

  • Stacks weird visual bug

    Hi,
    I'm running Leopard 10.5.3 on a 1Ghz iMac G4 which came with a GeForce4 MX graphics card. I've been using stacks from the beginning (and loving it) but every time I use it, a weird visual bug is triggered; basically white semi-transparent rectangles appear along the edges. You can find a screenshot of this at http://picasaweb.google.com/luis.beca/StacksBug/photo#5206710255993309346. Any clues as to why this is happening or how to solve it?
    I should point out that I have been stuck with this problem from the very beginning, not just the latest Leopard version 10.5.3. I have an Intel MacBook Pro where this is not an issue.
    Many thanks in advance
    Luís
    PS - How can I submit this to Apple?

    I think you can thank Apple for this.  See this discussion.

  • Safari iOS 7 bug: not rendering images

    Safari has a bug, it does not render image from The Economist at all:
    http://www.economist.com/node/21586620?fsrc=scn/gp/wl/dc/politicsandpurse
    Same goes for Safari modules that are used by other apps, e.g. Google+.
    Chrome with data compression renders OK, but it does so because data compression goes through Google server, and only decoding is done on machine.
    This all took place on iPad Mini.
    Shame on Apple Inc.

    Hi there,
    I can confirm this bug.
    Not sure if this info is relevant, but this is my experience:
    I am on the FIDO network, and so are two other people I know.
    We all tried blocking numbers, and calls ring right through. Text messages are blocked successfully. (never tried facetime)
    I also tried a ROGERS device running IOS7, and was successfully able to block my phone call from ringing through. HOWEVER, my call was forwarded to their voicemail, I was able to leave a voicemail for the person, and they did get an alert that they had a new voicemail.
    I have not yet had a chance to test this on Bell, Telus, or any other carriers.
    Spoke to Apple, and they advised me to do a hard reset (hold both buttons to shut off and reboot the phone), and if that fails to do an iOS restore.
    I have yet to try this, but hopefully someone will have a better solution.

  • Weird subtitle bugs

    I'm running into several weird subtitle bugs in Encore 2.0. My project is a 33 minute training video with 4 subtitle tracks - English, Chinese, Spanish and Russian. I know the project was initially created in 1.5, but I don't remember if the subtitles were imported before or after the conversion.
    The first is that some of the subtitles that have been edited are showing the original version of the subtitle. In most cases, if I go back to the edited version in the timeline and add a space at the end, it seems to update to the new version of the subtitle.
    The other issue is that in many cases, the subtitles are staying on the screen longer than they should be. In one instance, the subtitle stayed on the screen for about 15 seconds more than it should.
    Any comments or suggestions?
    This will be the last project for me in Encore - I just can't afford to spend multiple days working around Encore and its "features"
    Thanks,
    David

    Experienced the same subtitling "bugs" you described.
    Opened a ver. 1.5 project in ver. 2. Then once in ver. 2, I revised some text in several subtitle clips. The revisions were displayed o.k. during preview, but when I built a new DVD Volume from ver.2, and tested the playback in WinDVD software player, it was the "old" subtitles that were displayed!!!!!
    Apparently, the Encore 2 programmers overlooked a crucial subroutine in their coding. If i'm not mistaken, when you type-in or edit a subtitle clip, the program module that runs is something like a wordprocessor that works with the native fonts and formatting; the text in a subtitle clip is later rendered by Encore as a masked bitmap file overlaid onto the main video when you turn on the subtitles when you build the DVD volume (it's like in Photoshop where a text layer will be editable until you rasterize it, in which case the "text" becomes a bitmap image which you can no longer text-edit). I guessed that the edited subtitle clips were not being re-rendered by Encore. So, to work around this, I created/added new subtitle clips next to the "old" one and re-typed the text with the incorporated revisions, then deleted the "old" clip and repositioned the recently added/created clip. Afterwards, the subtitles with the corrected text displayed properly when I played back a re-built DVD volume.
    But although this "work-around" works, it would simply be too bothersome if you had to revise hundreds of subtitle clips!!!!! A situation I later found myself confronted with!
    What I did, then, was I duplicated the original subtitle track (which Encore failed to re-render properly) on which I had done the revisions; then, once the duplicate subtitle track had been pasted by Encore on the timeline, I deleted the original track and re-built a new DVD Volume. This time, all the revised subtitle clips were displayed correctly when I played back the volume in the software DVD player.
    Nevertheless, I hope Adobe becomes aware of this bug and implement the appropriate fixes.

  • Safari 4 has bug(s)

    I did not know that Safari 4 has bug(s), and went ahead to accept the Mac OS Update this afternoon. Now, I found out that I lost certain functions online such as I could not edit my webpage because Safari browser would not go to the webpage where I had to get on. Is there a recourse that I can reverse the Safari version to the older one?
    Thanks.
    Robert

    Hi, Dimaxum,
    Thank you very much for posting back your good experience with Safari 4 in working with your website. Well, my website through Verizon does not need any software to upload or download. However, the problem was that I could not even click the icon for going to the window of my editable website. This happens in cases of both using Mac OS 10.4.11 and Mac OS 10.5.7. In the meantime, I could still go to my website with the old Safari 3.2.3. I checked the functions with different computers with Safari 4, which showed the same problems.
    I believe that Safari 4 is far from perfect. Many users are complaining like I did. Worst of all, they could not uninstall Safari 4. I have spent more than a day, before I finally used 'archive and reinstall" to solve the problems. Now, I am happy again in using my computers with Safari 3.2.3 in both Mac OS 10.4.11 and and Mac OS 10.5.7. I hope that the bugs are only limited in these functions. But, who knows. One more thing that I realized is with Safari 4, the computer could not complete permission repair. I also hope Apple would move quickly to solve the problems.
    Robert

  • More Safari weirdness

    In addition to the bug I've chimed in on elsewhere in this forum (Bookmarks Bar doesn't appear when opening new windows), now the Tab Bar is displaying weirdness, as shown in the screenshot below.

    Resetting Safari, trashing prefs and ClickToFlash (the only enhancement I've added) has no effect
    Message was edited by: Dino Ilarde

    Safari preferences and Click To Flash have nothing to do with it, so deleting or removing those won't solve the problem. If I were you, I'd download the 10.6.2 Update and reinstall that, then Repair Disk Permissions and then restart Safari to see if the problem continues.

  • Safari Frame Rows Bug (white block)

    http://www.selfcrew.com/websitetest/album_dubberneck.html
    I'm building a site that uses framesets (outdated I've heard). None the less, on load, Safari will sporadically add a giant white space between the top and bottom frames. The big white space will disappear if you resize the window (by dragging the bottom right corner). It won't happen every time which is especially weird, but if one refreshes the page again and again it happens at least 1 in 5 loads. This does not happen in any other browser, and I downloaded Safari 4.0.2 this morning.
    I'd love to know if anyone knows a fix for this, either Java or just some html that I overlooked. I'd be happy to post the code by request. Thanks in advance!

  • Fullscreen bug with specific button on Mavericks rMBP 2013

    Hi Everyone,
    Encountered a weird bug on my GF's new rMBP with facetime.  The camera will turn itself off during face time if she fullscreens the app using the fade in fullscreen button on the top right corner of the app.  Sometimes the green light will stay off the whole time it is fullscreened, sometimes it will stay off for a second, then turn back on and the other end of the conversation may or may not see the pause icon. This doesn't happen when she uses the menu or the persistant bottom right hand corner fullscreen button.
    I don't know why it is only that particular button, but it happens.  Not a major issue, but just a weird annoyance and wonder if anyone else has seen this problem or if this is a know bug that will be addressed in the future.  I've tried to clear out the keychain, thinking it was that, but no go.
    Regards,
    Mike

    For those following along, Sanjay and I have taken the discussion offline and he provided me with a couple of sample projects.  I've been able to reproduce the issue on AIR 2.5 and it has now been entered as a bug in our internal database, #2751098.
    I've also proposed a workaround that appears to work on both Mac and Win.  Instead of
    this.addEventListener(Event.ACTIVATE, onActivate);
    public function onActivate(evt:Event):void
         stageDetails();
    I've suggested using
    stage.nativeWindow.addEventListener(NativeWindowDisplayStateEvent.DISPLAY_STATE_CHANGE, onDisplayStateChange);
    public function onDisplayStateChange(evt:NativeWindowDisplayStateEvent):void
         if (evt.afterDisplayState == NativeWindowDisplayState.NORMAL)
         stageDetails();
    I hope this helps anyone else that might encounter this issue.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • [Mac, Win] Fullscreen Bug?

    Hello!
    Sorry for the lenghty post but maybe someone can confirm the problems I am seeing:
    There seems to be a bug in both Windows and Mac versions of Photoshop CS6. The problem manifests itself MUCH clearer on a Windows machine, but is present to some degree on a Mac, too. The last version without it seems to be CS3 (OpenSth problem?).
    Steps to reproduce: Any image open, full screen mode, all pannels UNDOCKED:
    Correct behoviour: The image should not move while pressing Tab (ideally it shouldn't even redraw).
    On Windows:
    With every press of a Tab key to show/hide the panels the image jumps up several pixels (sometimes also towards the center of the screen if the image is smaller than the screen area). Also (and MUCH more annoyingly) when the image is moved off center and is at certain magnification (the most reproducible seems to be 33%) after pressing Tab it jumps ALL THE WAY to the center of the screen.
    On Mac:
    Similar things happen, but more rarely, and the image jumps by only ~1 pixel. (Easier to observe if you first zoom the image smoothly a bit by dragging with a zoom tool).
    Also as it currently is (after CS3?) pressing F produces the same outcome as pressing Shift+F - there is no way of just showing the menu in Fullscreen mode and then quickly hiding it after use - one have to go through the whole screen mode cycle. Also on Windows there is no way to access the menu when hidden with Alt + Letter speedkey (Alt + F for file menu etc.). Both these functions worked perfectly well in CS3.
    Both machines have latest Photoshop, OS updates and drivers (but old graphics cards: Win - Nvidia 9800GT, Mac Nvidia 880GT). I suspect these changes for the worse has been introduced while switching to OpenGL. Hopefully it is not necessary for it to be that way or maybe even it works as expected on newer graphics hardware - anyone care to check?
    Last time similar problems occured was, if I remember correctly, in Photoshop 7 when Status Bar has been moved into an image window :-)
    I know it may sound as if it's not important, but it certainly is annoying. It has nothing to do with not embracing change - I do find OpenWhatever to be a huge leap for Photoshop - even if I have to put up with a slower image redraw most of the time...
    So, I hope, my rumblings aren't comparable to:
    http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/workflow.png
    Regards
    m.

    Thank you.
    Unfortunately, I don't have Navigator open (opening it doesn't make any difference). The image jumps in fullscreen mode without the menu, because when I press Tab, the menu shows anyway and the image (incorrectly) moves down to accommodate it and then up again, after another Tab press.
    The wholly unreasonable behaviour of image being centred with Tab pressing has no such explanation and is not happening on a Mac at all.
    Your suggestion to use Shift F and then F works, but since Tab shows the menu anyway - it kind of doubles that functionality.
    I just think that the old behaviour of being able to show just the menu, separately from the panels or access it with Alt + Letter keys was more convenient than current behaviour. The image always stayed exactly where it was - no need to redraw. And it NEVER jumped whole way to the center - which makes dealing with image corners extremely difficult.
    I can understand that some of that may be the a requirement of using OpenGL on Windows, but I kind of doubt it.
    Regards
    m.

  • Safari 3.1 bug on Gmail

    Just upgraded my old version safari to 3.1, but today I found a bug when using Gmail.
    I was trying to compose an email by using web based Gmail, when I put the cursor into composing area, it will jump to address field once when I press the SHIFT key.
    A lot Mac fans in China reported this bug too on some Chinese Mac Forum.
    Hope Apple could fix this bug ASAP!!!

    Discessed at
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=87447
    Summary:
    I assume Google will fix this shortly. meanwhile,
    Work arounds:
    1) Click the "Newer Version" link when logged into your Gmail account. Holding down the shift key when typing a character will display it's capital correctly (if available). Newer version is available in "English" language only.
    2) click on the "Plain Text" option for the message field. I know this is cruddy, but it will allow you to use gmail (in Safari) again with capital letters as well as allow you to paste text into the message field. Hopefully either google or apple will fix this annoying bug, soon. There are other similar issues with the google apps, in spreadsheets and docs, hopefully they will address those as well.
    3) You can use CAPS lock to get a capital letter

  • Weird AudioFileStreamParseBytes() bug

    This is driving me batty. I'm using AudioFileStreamParseBytes() to parse data from an mp3 Shoutcast stream and then hand it off to the Audio queue for playback. The code works fine for all the Shoutcast streams I've tested, except for one - and of course the one that doesn't work is the one I really need to work.
    From what I've been able to determine, AudioFileStreamParseBytes() is frequently getting confused by the mp3 stream. It's an MPEG-1 layer 3 VBR stream, at 44100, with an average bitrate of 80. The stream also includes a CRC-16 checksum in each MP3 frame. The stream is being generated by a Barix Instreamer 100 (in case that matters). The stream also plays fine via iTunes.
    I'm cross-referencing the stream data with a network sniffer and can confirm I am receiving valid mp3 frames from the Shoutcast server. I also can confirm this identical valid collection of frames is being passed to AudioFileStreamParseBytes(). However, when AudioFileStreamParseBytes() calls my packet callback function with the parsed data, it will frequently skip a valid mp3 frame header and will instead think some data in the middle of the frame (which happens to start with FF) is the mp3 frame header.
    Has anyone seen anything like this? The problem is so frequent it occasionally will happen on the very first frame, causing the AudioFileStream logic to misidentify the type of stream (usually resulting in an incorrect frequency or file type).
    I'm tempted to just bypass using the AudioFileStream and load the mp3 frame into the AudioQueue directly from my TCP stream, but I thought using the AudioFileStream was supposed to offer some better error handling in case data transmission is temporarily interrupted. As it seems right now, however, the AudioFileStream is introducing errors of its own - at least with this one problematic Shoutcast stream.

    Oddly, the problem with AudioFileStreamParseBytes() only exists when compiled for a Mac OS target. If I run the same code on an iPhone (either via the simulator or a real iPhone device) the function parses the MP3 stream just fine.
    Weird...
    Fortunately, my real target is the iPhone (I was just doing initial development on a Mac since I thought the audio stream debugging would be easier/faster - silly me!), so I guess I don't really mind this bug anymore.

  • Bogus Safari 6.0 Bugs (Java?)

    Having difficult nailing down exact problem or cause of seemingly random safari bugs. Text entered into boxes sometimes dissapear and reappear spontainously. Other times images and text appear 'on top of each other'. Ocationally whole chunks of text remain missing from web pages. A bug even occored in the few seconds I was creating an online Apple ID. Frequently the flashing text entry curson won't flash.
    I have the latest Java plug-ins, Flash plug-ins, and already ran a check for flashback trojan.
    Anyone else having simular problems? Suggestions? Thanks.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
    Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
    Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
