Safari won't load page

I am trying to load a page but it keeps saying the server was not found. The weird things is that I accessed the page today but then when I tried to access it later it said the server was not found. I am using Safari. I'm not sure what caused it. The only things I have done recently are update my Stuffit Expander. Yesterday I downloaded The Unarchiver and a couple days before that I downloaded UnRarX. The site I am trying to reach is http://paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/ I tried accessing it using Safari and Firefox and neither work. I have accessed the page before but suddenly the server can't be found. I tried clearing the cache and that didn't work.

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome and thanks for checking the link. I think there must be a network/connectivity problem. So far I am the only person who can't access the site.

  • Safari won't load pages

I'm running 4.0.5 and off and on over the last few months it would just stop loading pages. I have it open up to the thumbnail view of the top sites and whether I would click on one of those or click on a site in the bookmark bar, it just shows it thinking. It doesn't freeze, I don't get the beach ball, it just doesn't load the page. As I mentioned, it has done this off and on for the last several months but it usually fixed itself if I let it sit for a few minutes. Over the last two days, it doesn't matter how long I leave it sit while trying to load a page, it just doesn't work.
    Ideas?

    Welcome to the forums!
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl. If you are running Snow Leopard, run Safari in 32 bit not 64 bit. Control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode)
Do you have enough RAM? Less than 1GB can cause slowness. Is your hard drive too full? Less than 15%, or 15GB, of free space can also cause slowness.
Adding DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/bestpractices/#yournetwork and follow the advice given.
(An explanation of why using Open DNS is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

  • Safari won't load pages, but internet connection is good

For the past 24 hours, whenever I try to reply to an e-mail, or create a new one, mail suddenly crashed. It is very reliable in this way; there are no exceptions. The the newest update/change to my configuration was the update of the 10.4.4 system stuff from Apple, followed a few days later by an update for the 15 in G4 Powerbook battery management.
Also, though not related to mail, the Software Update function does not work - "Can't connect to Update Server", and Safari will not load any pages - "CAn't connect to server...". However, Network Diagnostics says that I am connected to the internet, as does Firefox - it loads pages just fine! All other computers in our home network, including my G5 Tower, are performing and access the internet just fine.

    Bump
Could this have something to do with the Software Update error discussed in OS X system board? Various sites are off-limits (Network timeout error) such as E-bay; Microsoft etc. while others work fine.
Tried a full re-install etc but nothing - no non Apple apps, clean 10.4.3; purged, repaired etc etc

  • Safari won't load pages from search results

Weird problem.  Using Safari 8.0.3, I do a search using www.google.com or just search in the address bar.  Google returns the results, no problem.  However, if I try to follow a link by clicking on it, Safari will seemingly try to load it for a while, then I'll get a failed to open page error with Safari saying it can't open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection.  It can be reliable sites like amazon or yelp or others.   If I try the exact same thing in Chrome, no issues.
Anyone seen anything like this?  Frustrating as I'm going to have to stop using Safari until I get this figured out.  Btw, I don't have any traces of a virus or anything as I don't have ads popping up or anything like that.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Just upgraded to Mavericks and now Safari won't load pages

Hi, I just upgraded to OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 yesterday.  Prior to downloading the new operating system Safari was working perfectly.
After I finished downloading Mavericks I tried to open Safari but I have kept seeing a message, either the page was not responding or "Safari cannot connect to the server."
My computer says that my Wifi is working, but still I cannot access any webpages.  I can only access them through my ethernet connection.

  • Safari won't load pages with pictures after installing Maverick

I have an older iMac (2008), but it runs great and I have no problems with it.  Except now that i installed Maverick, now Safari doesn't work properly.  For most things, it works fine, then It will quit in the middle of a page.  Or, I have uploaded photos to the Walmart site and had pictures printed.  I can now access everything on that site except my photos and projects.  I get all the background ads and stuff, but not the actual photos.  That part of the page is blank.  There is not eeven the box with the question mark.  I kow they are still there because I can open them with Chrome.  I have tried all the tips I can find here, plus, I have tried Customer support for the website I am having problems with.  The CS people tell me it probably is a temporary problem, but I don't think they are Mac peaple.  So, far, nothing I have tried has helped.  I did have this same type of problem when I upgraded the last time, but was able to fix the problem.  Just wish I could remember how I fixed it.

  • Safari won't load pages after latest java update

I did the java update last night and now there are a lot of web pages that don't load. I also tried Firefox and Opera so I believe it is the latest Java update not something else.
Is there a log some where that I can check to see if there are any error messages or other indications of what is actually happening?
Java for MAC OS X 10.6 Update 1

    HI,
If you are running 10.4.8 then you need to update your system software to 10.4.11. And make sure you have the 2009-002 Security Update installed. Open System Preferences/Software Updatess - Installed Updates. Make sure that update is there. If not go here and download and install ...
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_002__Tiger_PPC
    Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
And ... from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences - Security.
Where you see: Web content make sure the top 3 buttons are selected.
    And ..
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Could be a 3rd party plugins causing the problem. Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Move any 3rd party plugins to the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • Safari won't load pages but Firefox does.

My problem seems to be a common one lately. Safari seems to not want to load any pages that have java script on them including the apple.com site. Firefox does this without hesitation. This problem had been intermittent until the recent java update which has now made Safari unusable.
Will reverting back to the previous java version potentially work, and if so how is this accomplished.
I am not looking for everyone's speculations as to what MAY be the cause, I would like a definitive answer as to how to get Safari functional at minimum. If someone has been able to figure out a proper fix, then only that person should reply so as to keep others from having to pour over multiple posts of information that are frustrating at best.
I thank in advance whomever can provide a proper response.

    HI,
Try this. Go to Applications/Utilities then launch Java Preferences.
    Select the General tab.
Click the button next to: In their own process
Quit Java Preferences and relaunch Safari.
This is working for some users, others not but might be worth a try and you can always change it back.
I am not looking for everyone's speculations as to what MAY be the cause
Everyone's configurations are different. We don't speculate. We troubleshoot. We can only go on the information that you give us.
You changed your profile from Mac OS X 10.5 to 10.6. Which Mac OS X are you running??
If you are running 10.5.5, you need to update your system software to 10.5.8. You can use the v10.5.8 Combo Update

  • Safari won't load page correctly

I've had this problem since the last major update of safari. I use mapquest a lot and what I get is the text and advertising mixing together and I can't read the directions, so I have been using internet explorer for those web pages and a couple of others.example
    link
Is this my computer or does anyone else have this problem?
[ Edited by Apple Discussions Moderator; href URL ]

    Hi Jeffrey,
    Welcome to Discussions!
Your link works fine for me with Safari 2.0 and OS X 10.4.2.
What things have you tried so far to correct the problem?
One quick test you can do to help narrow down things is browse to that address with Safari in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide.
If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> [+] to create a test one (and [-] to remove it if needed - I usually keep a test account for debugging when needed

  • Safari won't load pages that require passwords

    Hi,
I am fairly new to Macs having made the switching from an ever problematic HP, and have found it to be a blessing. As such I took it with me to Spain (where I am now) and have encountered NUMEROUS problems with all most every aspect of Leopard and its applications.
I have found that Safari is unable to access any website which requires you to enter a username and password. I have researched the problem online and have tried several things to fix it including
    1. Restarting Safari
    2. Restarting the computer
    3. Changing Cookie settings
    4. Deleting all the Cookies
    All to no avail
I didn't have these problems with the Macbook when I was in Australia, nor do I have problems accessing the same websites, through the same internet connection on a friends windows computer OR on firefox on this mac.
I am at a totally loss and any suggestions would be much appreciated!
    Thank you in advance!

I have the same problem. But when I switch to another user on the same computer, I can get the username and password prompt. But in my own login I can't. Something has changed in Safari. I did use Onyx to clear caches and logs, not sure if that had anything to do with it. I have deleted the preferences, reset Safari, tried lots of things, but nothing makes it work. It is obviously a setting on my login since it works on the other login. It works in Internet Explorer. I haven't tried disabling the plug-ins yet in the preferences under Security. I will do that next.

  • Safari won't load ANY webpages

Since the OS update this week Safari will not load any webpages.  All software updates have been done.
    I have a MacBook Pro 15-inch early 2011 2.2 GHz with 8 GB ram running OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
    Running Safari Version 5.1.3 (7534.53.10)
I get the beachball on ANY page I try to load.  It also will show the beachball in the page area even without typing a url to load.  I have reset all but saved names and passwords, and autofill info and emptied the cache.
    Nothing seems to work.

    Hi...
    Several things to try ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Deselect: Enable plug ins Quit then relaunch Safari. If Safari loads pages, troubleshooting help here. Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit, relaunch Safari to test.
Quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file (preferences).
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
    Quit, relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash, If not, just move it back to the Preferences folder.
Try Safari in another user account. If Safari won't load pages there also, then it's possible the startup disk needs repairing.
    Use Lion Recovery for that.

  • MacBook Air 2011, running Lion 10.7.2, and Safari won't load any pages. Firefox loads everything just fine. What's going on?

I have a MacBook Air 2011, running Lion 10.7.2, and Safari won't load any pages. Firefox loads everything just fine. What's going on?

d Pacifist to reinstall both the Safari
    application and the WebKit framework
was that before the 10.4.6 combo was applied?
Nope, I tried the Pacifist route after applying the combo update.
It does sound as if webkit is busted at the moment.
What version of osx is on your install disks?
Not sure, I'll have to check them.
I'd like to avoid a archive & install, but I'm beginning to think it's my only remaining option.

  • My Safari won't load any page.

    Hi. I'm amsuherdi1111.
Recently my safari won't load any page/website. My safari can start loading a website after I restart my mabook pro. And then after a day, the safari won't load any website again. What might cause this to happen? Another application that use internet like steam, mail, skype, etc. is working normally. Oh and it's not only safari. Google Chrome also have the same problem.
I'm very thankful if any of you who can solve this, this problem is killin' me XD

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Safari won't load any pages

In the last couple of weeks, Safari has fell apart on me. This is 2.0.3 on OS X 10.4.6.
At first, it merely crashed on me, usually just a few minutes after launch. I could restart, go to the same page, and things were fine until a few minutes later. Now, Safari can't load any page. It's stuck eternally contacting the host of my home page.
I re-applied the 10.4.6 combo updater last night and it didn't help. I used Pacifist to reinstall both the Safari application and the WebKit framework; didn't help.
Other applications are also malfunctioning now. Real Player can't check for updates and my VPN client is unable to make a connection to its server. Still other applications (notably Firefox and Camino) are OK.
Creating a new user account doesn't help. It exhibits the same problems.
    Any suggestions?
This is the most recent crash log (though it hasn't actually crashed in a few days since it won't load pages).
