Safari won't show some web pages properly.

After re-loading OS X 10.3.9 on my Powerbook g4 1.25ghz, 1.25memory and updating all updates. Safari now won't load Facebook completely. All other web pages seem to be loading OK. I usually use Firefox but I can't seem to get ANY version of that web browser to load now. So I'm stuck with Safari that won't load Facebook.
I've tried deleting caches and Safari prefs…didn't work.

Ok..
That's an outdated version of Safari for sure and explains why web pages aren't rendering as they should for you.
Click the Apple () menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update ...
Hopefully the Software Update will bring your Mac up to speed. Make sure and restart your Mac after the updates are installed.
In case you aren't aware, you can run Tiger or Leopard on your PBookG4.
Tiger v10.4 minimum requirements: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1514
Minimum requirements for Leopard v10.5 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3759
You are running an outdated Mac OS X, v10.3. Apple released Panther in 2003. Unless you upgrade the Mac OS X and Safari, you will continue to have problems using Facebook and other sites as well on the PBook.

  • Safari won't load some web pages.

Ever since installing Mavericks, Safari won't load some web pages (including these Apple support pages). I'm able to load the pages using Chrome or Firefox. Does anyone know of any settings in Safari 7 or the Mavericks system preferences that would be causing this?
    -Greg

I had the same problem... I ran disk repair and repaired all permissions on the HD then reopened safari now it's working fine.

  • Safari not displaying some web pages properly why?

I have been finding of late that safari does not display certain web pages properly. i.e.: text overlaps other text  and is not formatted properly. This seems to have become more common lately. Even Apple's own apple info page does not display properly. Could this be a setting in safari that I have messed up somehow?

Go step by step and test.
    1. Delete Cookies
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
        Click the “Details” button.
Remove all cookies except from Apple, your internet service provider and banks.
    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn off Extensions if any and launch Safari again to test.
Turn on those one by one and test.
    3. Delete Caches.db
Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
        Select "Library" from the dropdown.
        Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari > Caches.db
Right click the Caches.db file and select "Move To Trash.
        Close windows and relaunch Safari.
    4. Empty Caches
        Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
    5. Temporarily  turn off  Safari iCloud sync and test.
         System Preferences > iCloud
Uncheck the box beside “Safari” and test.

  • Help!  Safari won't fully load web pages until I refresh!  Why and any suggestions on how to retify this??

For several months now safari has not been loading web pages properly (not them all, it is a bit random, but maybe every 3rd or 4th page I open?).  The blue loading bar gets to about 1.5 inches from the end and stops.  I can then click on the bar and refresh and it loads no problems but this is highly inconvenient and I can't seem to fix it.
I have reset safari, updated all software, I am on a mac book pro, I have Version 5.1.5 safari.
Would this be an internet problem rather than a software problem?  How would I check.
It's not very convenient when you're doing something important like trying to get tickets for an event and then it jams, and you know you need to refresh but if you refresh you've lost the tickets...
    Any suggestions welcome

    Hi Krisztina ..
Using OpenDNS can help when pages won't load properly.
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, includes anti phishing filters, prevents browser redirects, blocks the flashback trojan, and it's free.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
Apple suggests using OpenDNS here >  Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found

  • Safari update to 5.1.5, on snow leopard, now safari won't open any web page.

Just installed Safari update to 5.1.5 and now Safari won't load any web page. Running snow leopard on an iMac.  How do I fix, or revert to previous version of Safari that did work, keeping in mind, can't access internet on that computer since Safari won't load a web page (Firefox, Chrome, Opera have never worked on that computer, although Firefox worked fine until I upgraded OS to snow leopard).

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Web Page: IE vs Safari. Safari won't show some text!

I use my windows desk top with front page to create a website. When viewing from IE window computer, the verbiage under special notice shows up clearly and consistently. When viewing the same page using Safari, the verbiage under the Special Notice section does not show up.
    1. I redid the web page moving the pictures around etc. but the same problem occurrs.
    http://bergen.edu/faculty/whuisking/
Is the site. I am at a real loss.

No problem, Skip, and, although I have never used Front Page, I'll try to give you a little guidance; because, "Yes", the change should be made to look exactly as I showed it in the original post.
-- The CSS definition is in your style sheet.
-- Your style sheet is a file named <code>blit1011.css</code>.
-- It is found in your <code>faculty/whuisking/_themes/blitz/</code> directory on your web site.
If you can locate and open that file directly through Front Page, you would do a find for: <code>TABLE{</code> (that's a left "curly bracket") and do one of the following:
    a) delete the line that says "color:transparent;" or
    b) comment out that line exactly as posted, originally.
-- That method, again, is: <code>/color:transparent;/</code> . Anything between /* and */ is commented out, meaning ignored.
If, on the other hand, you have FTP, you can download that file, save it as its original name, that is <code>blit1011.css</code>; and then go in, change the code as describe above, save, and upload the file. Then test.
If you are stuck, there should be some folks around who are familiar with Front Page, and can assist you with changing the style sheet. Keep us apprised.

  • Safari won't open certain web pages

    Hi,
I can't get Safari to open certain web pages. This has only been the case for the last week or so, I could happily view them before.
    2 examples are : www.facebook.com and www.quaysws.co.uk
can anybody please help, it just seems a bit weird...

I just got this link, http://www.quaysws.co.uk/flash/page1.php,
to open in both Safari and Firefox. Mind you at the same time, I cannot get Apple.com to open in Safari I'm running Leopard with Safari 3.0.4. Whoa Safari just decided that Apple.com does exist and opened it without me first having to restart the computer. Safari definitely has some bugs but you may want to make sure that you don't have any 3rd party add-ons set up and you may have to reinstall.

  • Safari Won't Load Router Web Page

    Safari 7.0.3
    OS X 10.9.2
    Mac Mini 2009
    I recently got a new router: TP-Link TD-W8980
If I enter the router's IP address into Safari, I see the router's login page.
After I log in, all I see is a blank page.
If I close the blank page and type in the router's IP address again (before the session times out), the router's web page displays normally.
If I use Chrome, the behavior is normal.
Why do I have to close the page and reopen in order for Safari to properly display the router web pages?
Message was edited by: Buadhai - Correct spelling of Chrome.

I''m sorry, but I don't understand your question at all.
This is from the router's setup guide:
    3.2 Quick Installation Guide
With a Web-based utility, it is easy to configure and manage the TD-W8980 N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router. The Web-based utility can be used on any Windows, Macintosh or UNIX OS with a Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari.
    1. To access the configuration utility, open a web-browser and type the default address http://192.168.1.1 in the address field of the browser.
How would Safari know how to get to the router's web server if you didn't enter the IP address in the browser's address field?

  • IMac won't load some web pages

I just got wireless internet out on my farm and hooked up my fairly new IMac G5 to it. When I connect it directly to the antennae (not through a router) everything works great. When I hook it through a router ( I have used linksys wireless g and a netgear wgr613 v6) the Imac will only load certain web pages. e.g. It will load Apple.com, but won't play the Macworld keynote address. It won't load Ebay at all. It will load cnn.com and others just fine. When I bypass the router, everything loads and works. I have also taken the IMac to work and hooked up to our office ethernet through a router, multiple wireless access points, and hubs, and the IMac works great all of the time. I tried the linksys first and it works for a little while and then fizzles away to nothing working. I then upgraded firmware and it worked a little while longer before dying. The netgear works all of the time for some, but not everything. When I hookup my Windows XP notebook, it works all of the time on either router. I have tried both routers either wireless, or wired, with the same results. Thanks....

Yes, that did it. I put in the two DNS numbers for my ISP and that solved the problem. Still don't understand why that caused it, but yet worked sometimes. Oh well.....Thank you

  • Safari won't load ANY web pages!

safari just stopped running web pages all of a sudden. i think it started after i upgraded to 10.3.9. safari bounces and opens up. then it attempts load a page. after a few minutes it gives me a message of "Safari could not open the page “http://livepage.apple.com/” because the server stopped responding." it's the same with every site i try going to. i've already tried to empty the cache, reset safari, disk utility, and deleting the history and bookmarks. if any one has any idea I would love to hear it

Can you use another browser such as Firefox or Camino? Shiira doesn't count because it is based on the same foundation as Safari.
Also what happens if you try a new, clean user account? To create a new account, open System Preferences and click on Accounts. You may have to click on the padlock and give your admin name and password to create an account. Click on the plus sign in the lower right corner to create the new account. I see no reason to give it a password. You can delete this account later using using the minus key, although I have kept my second account to use for testing (the user folder only takes up 32 kb).
And for those still using anything earlier than OS X 10.4.4, I strongly suggest running either the regular 10.4.4 update (which can only be used if you have 10.4.3) or the combo update. The latter will make sure your system is up to snuff. There were lots of fixes in general and several specifically to Safari in this update.

  • Help! Airport says I'm connected, but Safari won't load a web page!?

Okay, I'm a newbie, I would really appreciate if someone can tell me what's going on here. I purchased an Airport Express unit, followed the instructions, set up my own network, and on BOTH my G4 Desktop and my G4 17" Powerbook, the "internet connect" recognized the Airport and says that I'm connected to the internet (full strength), but on both computers when I try to open a web page Safari gives me an error code "cannot connect to the internet." What gives? Anybody know? There doesn't seem to be a help topic about this particular problem....

  • Safari won't open some secure pages

It's not just Safari, though - Firefox, Chrome, Opera.
It's not just my iMac either - MacBook Pro *AND* iPad.
Some secure sites simply won't open.  It looks like they load (the timer thing goes through the URL) but blink - no page. Just a blank browser window.
    Any clues??
I've tried reinstalling browsers, trashing preferences, turning off all security measures - pretty much anything you can think of.  OS is 10.8.3, browsers are all updated to most recent versions.
I'm stumped.  It wouldn't be a big deal except for one page that I NEED to get to for my job. I can't keep running over to my neighbor's house and using IE on his Windows 7 PC - not only is it irritating him, but it's making me crazy that something that works so effortlessly on his crappy PC won't work AT ALL on my Macs!
    HELP!

3 devices - they all connect using the same router/modem ?
can you connect at neighbouring house using ipad or macbook pro ? - that would maybe confirm the issue being with your connection.

  • Safari will not display my Web page properly

    http://www.ornl.gov/sci/fed/stelnews
If you mouseover each issue link, you are supposed to see a summary of the issue in the right pane. It works in Mozilla, Opera, and IE. Safari just shows the first mouseover image.
This is a Bug. I'm not sure how to report it.
    MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   8 cpu, 8 GB

It may not neccesarily be an issue with Safari, but the website itself. Web designers test their webpages with certain browsers. Example, Internet Explorer and Firefox because they are the 2 most popular.
Because each browser handles webpages differently, the page may look and operate different in seperate browsers.
A good web designer constructs pages thinking of the many browsers and develops a site that is accepted by all browsers.

  • Safari Won't Load Some 'https:' Pages

For the past week or so, my old trusty G3 (running 10.4.11, all software updates current) is having a problem with certain https: pages - typically ones that are brought up right after logging into a service like AOL Webmail (and unfortunately Apple Discussions, too). What is supposed to happen is the interim page gets processed and then automatically goes on to a "welcome" page or similar. What actually happens is the page either loads fully and then nothing, leaving a blank page leading nowhere and without completing the login sequence, or stalls on loading (with a half-done progress bar... indefinitely).
Checked all my network proxy settings - they're OK. Can access all standard http and most other https pages just fine.
Cleared cache - no effect. Reset Safari - no luck. Shut down, restarted, etc... still have the problem.
Downloaded & installed Firefox 2.0.0 on the G3. With Firefox, I had no problems at all processing the pages. So it doesn't seem to be the target webpages or the network connection. However, Firefox is slooow on the G3 - so I'd rather use Safari.
Other Macs of mine running 10.4.11 & latest Safari are showing no problems of this type (or else I wouldn't be writing this).
Any suggestions? Any other place I need to be looking or anything else I need to hunt down / delete / reinstall / fix?

You have already done some of this, but try:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions.
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
If not, MacFixit have published a very detailed (very!) article on speeding up a slow Safari, here:
