Samsung 51 inch Plasma Tv

Good Afternoon, I just bought this tv 2 months ago and I am noticing around the letters on the cable its like shadowing around the letters? how can I fix this I attached a pic on what it looks like

Although I can't see the picture you attempted to post, what you described sounds like image retention.  Try turning down the contrast and brightness to see if this continues.  I had a Samsung plasma with contrast set at about 90 and brightness somewhere in the 60s and started having image retention problems after about 10 months with it getting progressively worse.  Others in this forum felt these settings were too high especially since I watched a lot of ESPN with the logos and tickers at the bottom.  I no longer have this TV though.  Keep in mind that images left on the screen for long periods of time can still cause image retention and possibly even burn-in for which there is no "cure".  Some owners never have problems, others aren't so lucky.  So be careful about still images on the screen for prolonged periods of time.

  • Connecting Samsung 50 inch plasma 5054

I connected my new Core 2 Duo Mac Mini to my Samsung 5054 50 inch plasma. However, if I check the overscan checkbox in the system preferences, the screen is clipped at the edges and I can't see the outside extremeties. If I uncheck the the overscan checkbox, the display does not occupy the whole screen. Is there a way to set up the display so that they screen image fits evenly on the screen?

Very common problem. Some people have success using programs like DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X to alter the format and timing to make the Mac screen fit the TV. But it is a very hit or miss process. And it may not even work.
Another possibility is that the display itself may have size and centering controls for the video image. Sometimes they are accessed through special service menus that are not published in the user guide. If that's the case, you need to find these on the internet using a search. Good luck.

  • HELP - Table Stand for 42 inch plasma

We bought a 42 inch plasma tv about five years ago.  We wall mounted it and about a year ago we cleaned out the garage and through out the stand.
We are wanting to dismount the tv and place on a tv stand/cabinet.  I searched the internet and can not find a replacement stand and our brand has been discontinued.
Does anyone have any ideas were we can find a stand or any ideas?

I don't know why I thought you mentioned it was a Samsung. I should sleep more and do this less. You can buy a tv stand that you can hang the tv on the back of the stand. Best Buy sells them from Whalen, Bello, Init.

  • Connecting a Macbook to a Samsung 5054 Plasma

Can someone help me out with connecting my Macbook to my Samsung 5054 Plasma. I have the mini dvi to video adapter, but I still don't get a picture? Please help. Thanks so much.

What sort of input does your plasma allow? HDMI or DVI would be best. VGA would be OK.
I connect to my Panasonic plasma as follows:
Macbook==> mini-DVI to DVI adapter ==> DVI to HDMI cable ==> Yamaha RX-V663 receiver HDMI in ==> HDMI cable out ==>Panasonic plasma
Of course having the Yamaha receiver in the chain is optional, but in my case I also run digital optical audio to the receiver.

  • Connecting my Macbook Pro to Samsung 42" Plasma

    Hi,
I have just purchased a new Samsung 42" plasma TV (PS42B450) and wanted to connect my Macbook Pro laptop (mid 2009) up to my TV and use as a media center. I got some advice from the Apple store and went off logged onto the website and bought Dr. Bott Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter, then purchased a digital audio lead from Maplins and then expected it all to work...
I got the picture up fine and looks awesome but there is no sound? It is now driving me crazy and the only solution is now to buy another cable (Mini DisplayPort + USB Audio to HDMI Adapter) and from reading many forums and searching the web, is this the solution?
Has anyone else had this problem if so how did you solve it?
    Many Thanks
    Andy Sarbutt

    Hi Andy,
I think you're mistaken. You are using the "DVI Audio In" input on your TV for the audio cable, correct? And, you're also using a digital (toslink, optical) audio cable, plugged into that input? If so, that will not work.
The specifications for the TV on the Samsung website make no mention of a digital audio input. I also looked through the manual for the TV at the link you gave. Page 9 shows the following image:
That is the cable that it shows going from the DVI audio output of some device (say your MBP) and into your TV on the other end. It is clearly a 3.5mm (1.8") analog lead, not a digital (optical) cable.
I still think you need a standard 1/8" to 1/8" stereo minijack cable to get sound on your TV. One with a headphone plug on both ends.
Let us know how it turns out, if you do find one of those.

I have a pioneer 50 inch plasma + I purchased new from the company back in 2005.   I tried to hook up an Apple Tv to the pioneer receiver that came with the TV.   I can not get it to work.
The receiver has two HDMI  inputs in the back.  However they say they are not for PC's.  Furthermore they must be set up by going to the home menu.    I tried everything, but I can not get the receiver to talk to the Apple TV. I even tried a connector that uses an HDMI to the Apple TV that has the other side of the cable as 5 RCA cables.  I could not get the receiver to see the Apple TV.   I have a newer TV in the house, it has no problem talking with the Apple TV.  But this older system seems to be handicapped in its ability to talk with the newer Apple TV system.

    Do you have any suggestions
    Thanks

I could not access the Apple TV on the television.   If I put the Apple TV directly into by TV, I have an external sound system (entertainment system), therefore I worry that I would by pass the audio.
Thanks for taking your time to attempt to help!   Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Samsung 55" Plasma TV

I have a Samsung 55" plasma TV that is less than two years old. I had the geek squad come out and calibrate the TV and color. When the color on the TV is white I've developed a horizontal bar that has a pinkish/purple hue that runs the length of the TV. Is this a sign that my TV (less than 2 years old) is on it's way out ? Will it eventually affect the rest of my TV, or do I need to have it calibrated again ?  PN58C550G1

A calibration can not cause, nor repair the problem you're describing. Have it looked at by a certified repair technician if it's still under warranty, otherwise buy a new one.

  • Viewing iDVD on 50 inch Plasma tv.

I'm always disappointed when I play my newly created DVD on my home DVD player into a 50 inch plasma HD TV. Photo size is always small. Is there a way to make the photos play full screen? There is 6 inches of black around all the photos. The photos originally were 6 mega pixels on a digital SLR camera. It seems that the process of importing photos into iDVD renders a serious downsize in file size. I've already tried all possible TV adjustments.

    Hi Michael
Don't forget that at present, iDVD only renders all image files or DV material to SD resolution. i.e 640 x 480 pixels. That is regardless of your original source.
So here's looking forward to iDVD 9 or ?10 which, coupled with an HD or BluRay DVD burner will then be able to render true HD material.
I think the title iMovie HD is slightly misleading, because it leads one to think that iMovies or slideshows can then be rendered via iDVD as HD but they can't.
    Hope that's helpful.

  • How can I plug my phone or iPad into my Samsung hd plasma tv and watch movies I've downloaded from iTunes?

We are trying to watch avengers on our samsung hd plasma 1080i. I plugged USB into tv and phone. Selected the wise link option on my remote. Tv says nothing is plugged in. I have an iPhone and an iPad. So I can do either product for the download. If someone out there knows what I am doing wrong please tell me. Maybe I am using the wrong plug?? Just using phone charger plug in with USB on other end.

As Rudegar pointed out, the AV cable is an adequate option. But another option is to purchase an Apple TV. That's the only way to use Airplay from an iOS device (for now). I'm pretty sure no OEM TV's support Apple's Airplay technology as of yet. Apple wants you to purchase the Apple TV so don't hold out hope that they'll license the tech to TV manufacturers any time soon.
Check out Apple's demo of Airplay on their website and see if that's an option you might like. The AV cable is cheaper but IMO a cable of any kind is a cumbersome work around. And the Apple TV allows you to also play music and look at your pictures from any iOS device as well.
Re: your other question: "Can I see my iPad on the TV in general when hooked up?". The answer is, "Not yet". Only the "output" (IE: music, video, slideshows) can be seen through Airplay or the AV cable. You can't use the TV as a second monitor for your iOS device.
Lastly, you can't "break" your device simply by trying to hook it up to your TV. I had the same issue with my father this holiday with trying to convince him he couldn't break his camera by trying to hook it directly up via the USB connector on the TV.

  • Purchased Samsung 63 plasma 8000 series ghosting issues

I purchased a 63 Samsung 3D plasma 8000 series in 2/10 and the picture is fantastic, but I seem to be having ghosting issues when people move on the screen or with fast moving scenes.  I had a pioneer 50 plasma that was 5 years old that did not have this problem with people only blurring with fast moving scenes like sports.  The people and scenes are clear it's just the edges seem to be blurring or ghosting.  Is this normal or is there something I can adjust?  It is really irritating to me.  I thought this TV was supposed to be an improvement with blurring or ghosting but at present it seems to be worse.  Please advise.

    what was it's original function.
Motion Judder or Blur Reduction (named differently depending on brands of TV) is used to help compensate for the natural blur some content has. Unless you are watching something in its default recording such as 24p you will have at least some motion blur. Once again this is blur that is in the content not something plasmas technically have like LCD's are susceptible to.
So what does it do or supposed to do:
A standard video signal is actually a series of still images, flashed on screen so quickly that we believe we are watching a moving image. The typical frame rate used in North America is 60 frames per second (60Hz) meaning that a TV would display 60 individual still images every second. Sub-field drive is the method used to flash the individual image elements (dots) on a plasma panel. For each frame displayed on the TV the Sub-field drive flashes the dots 10 times or more, meaning that the dots are flashing 600 times per second (600Hz) or more. (Example: 60 frames per second x 10 sub-fields = 600 flashes per second). TV's will try to compensate content judder by inserting more sub-fields into the image. However it tends to have mixed results. Sometimes it works sometimes it completely fails and sometimes it overcompensates.
I personally have a Panasonic plasma and I keep the blur reduction off.

  • Samsung 42-inch Plasma TV just died

My 42-inch HP-T4254 started turning on and off by itself last Saturday and as of Sunday wouldn't stay on at all.  I had a certified Samsung repairman check out the TV early this week and for $99, he told me that it would cost $650 to replace the power supply and motherboard.  I've had this TV for just over 2 years so it was out of warranty.  This is coming at a pretty bad time to have to buy a new TV, which seems like the only option when the repair cost is 75% of the replacement cost.  Obviously, I'm not very pleased with both Best Buy and Samsung at the moment.  Is there anything that Best Buy can do to help me?

it really sad that everyone of you has the same solution of paying more money for extended protection. When you spend thousands of dollars on a tv, why should you have to pay more money for protection on a tv. The tv should last for longer then 2 years. IT should last at least bare min 8 years. I've have a tube tv that i bought 10 years ago and it works fine to this day. I have video game equipment for example a sega nomad and a ps2 that still work just as good as new "old technology".  I have an xbox360 that ive had to have replaced 4 times in 2 years because i would get a red ring of death "hardware failure". their is no excuse for that. the xbox 360 has a terriable defect rate/product failure rate.  The bottom line is the manufacture needs to build quality products that will last and they are not doing that.  They are not building the same quality products they used to. They rush products to market without making sure they are going to be durable, dependable, live up to Tonsumer expectations, ect.... They are getting away with this! They are conditioning you guys to think hey its the way its supposed to be. They are building crappy products and selling them to you and charging even more for a product to protect plan. Dont get me wrong their are going to be defects in manufacturing but as many complaints as ive seen and studied in school and seen in the business world is unacceptable. Now you guys just think its ok thats the way its supposed to be... you should be every bit as mad as the guy that posted this form with his tv going out. its not his fault he didnt want to spend the extra money on the protection on the tv. its the manufactures fault for rushing a product to market without making sure it works, its the manufactures fault for not standing behind their product, its the manufactures fault for not matching up the four marketing P's, its the manufactures fault for not utilizing the many manufacturing techniques that are avaible today that greatly reduce defects, and most of all its YOUR FAULT for condoning the manufactures behavor and continuing to buy from them and saying its ok i just need to buy the extra protection. It's not ok its not the way its supposed to be! Think if you bought a brand new car and it broke down multiple times, this is the same thing! To the guy thats tv broke sorry to hear about that man. If i were you i would call samsungs exective constumer services department (or whatever it is, they have customer service and then they have a level above that you want to complain to them) and complain it will get you some where. Remind them that the cost of fixing your tv is worth a lot less them complaining to 100's of people about how bad their products are and losing those possible customers. It will work it has worked for me when i got screwed over a couple times with the service industry and HH gregg. Just get by the customer service people on the phone and go above them and you will get somewhere. good luck to you. Do your homework, educate yourself, and dont put up with the bs.

  • Mac Mini and Samsung 42" Plasmas

I'll be purchasing a Samsung HP-T4234 plasma soon and have noticed it will handle a PC signal of 1024x768. I realize it's not a very sharp resolution, but will it fill the entire widescreen? IT won't need to be stretched, will it? I'm not too sure of these types of things, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am using the Samsung 204B, not sure if this is similar. I have an XP Pro machine (older) and my Mac Mini (current version) on a DVI KVM switch. I noticed if you loose the connection to the Windows PC I have to restart the computer to get the display back.
My video for the Mini would drop out every so often. I had to download SwitchResX and set up a custom setting of 1600x1200 with a 135MHz pixel clock for the monitor to work well with the Mini.

  • Samsung 43" Plasma 3D ( need help multiple levels.)

Ive recently decided to begin shopping for a TV. I looked at TV's at walmart. Thats where i found the Samsung 43" I  TV
without  3D for a little more then a hundred dollars cheaper. Then i found it on Best Buys site with 3D. So i decide thats the path im going for. They have a deal where it has 2 pair of 3D glasses included with it. If i were to do the thing where i pick it up from the store. would i still get the same deal on with the 3D glasses included? Or is that just a online thing? anyone know?  Also i know this has probably been discussed but im on my phone and the search feature isnt working right. But i pretty much decided on this TV due to 1. it has 600hz and i love the way it stays crisp watching sports. 2. its price is really affordable for a 3D tv. 3. The size is pretty much the biggest i should have for my room before its too big. If there are any other TV's people suggest looking at before buying it would be appreciated. Like i said, i apologize if this has been discussed but i couldnt search and it wasnt on the front page.

Plasma is what the Samsung is, and I would not put any technology above the other. Each has their pros and cons. For Plasma, they are typically not as bright, but much richer in your primary and sub colors, and also high in contrast (black and white shades). Motion is usually more natural, as Plasmas rely on a different refresh rate style than LCD/LEDs (google: Subfield drives). They also typically have a faster response, which makes them again better for motion. I would have to say that because of these attributes, Plasma, to me anyway, appears to be the better technology for 3D. Might be best to stop by your local store and check out their demos for yourself.
In regards to 720p/ 1080p- this refers to how many vertical lines of information your TV has; The more lines, the more resolute your picture. However, even a 1080p TV can only render what its source is broadcasting at. So if you're watching cable, that is only a 720p(1080i) broadcast (mostly). Your TV will polish the images, but still not be able to render them in full 1080p. Resolution itself is hard to justify a difference, but usually Bluray and other 1080p devices have other video elements that contribute to the quality of the picture--> HD Frame Rates, higher video and color bit rates, etc. So to answer your question, Bluray IS a noticeable difference, but not just because of 1080p alone.
