Samsung 730B DVI Connection

Hello - I am purchasing a Samsung 730B 17" LCD monitor. It has both RGB/DVI and i am curious will the DVI work with my stock standard PowerMac G4 FW800 with mirrored doors.
What type of cable would I have to get as I know there are different flavours of DVI (DVI, DVI-D) etc
thank you in advance
oh - the graphics card has a DVI and an ADC port - ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

Hello - thank you for your reply.
I already own an Apple LCD screen, the samsung will be a secondary. so - only the DVI port left.
Upon more research, the PowerMac has DVI-I (Analog/Digital) and the Samsung screen has DVI-D (Pure Digital)
The only difference between connecters is that the powermac has 2 pins above and below (totalling 4) the long splade part.
Can I just purchase a DVI-D cable, and it will work, or for some reason, will the PowerMac only output digitial if the 4pins are present in the connector, even if they aren't used.

Hello, I am interested in buying this week of a mac mini 2011 withintel graphics HD3000 but I'm not sure it looks good with my Samsung SyncMaster 933HD monitor. How would it look better.... with the hdmi-dvi connection built in, buying a HDMI 1.3 cable and HDMI-making or buying an adapter hdmi display port - vga and connected through the port thunderbolt

I originally set up my mini with the included HDMI -> DVI adaptor to connect to a Sycmaster monitor. The graphics were very good.

  • Boot Issue with New Radeon X800 XL on DVI connection

I've just bought a connect 3d radeon x800 xl and installed it in my machine.  I had a radeon 9700 pro die on me 2 weeks ago and I'd reverted back to a Gainward ti4200 in the meantime - both of which I had running on exactly the same specs, the latter through the dvi connection.
However, when I turn the machine on the machine starts to go through it's POST routine and then it somehow 'loses' the display, before it finishes searching through the sata raid arrays and before I can get into the bios setup pages.
Strangely enough, the POST routine runs fine if it's connected to the bog standard vga connection.
I did think it might be the power supply considering all the other posts on the forum and although it's not the best brand in the world, it still delivers 20 amps at 12v.  Anyone any ideas on how to resolve this?
    Thanks in advance

The DVI-I port on the 5770 and other advanced cards like it has the VGA signals directly accessible with a very simple adapter. The blade at the end of the connector and the four pins around it, plus Horizontal Sync from the top row of the grid are EXACTLY VGA, no translation required.
Converting Mini DisplayPort to VGA is one of the most complex conversions possible, and if you are having trouble with that conversion, and pushing the resolution up, I am not at all surprised.
If your DVI display is not wider that 1920 wide, I suggest you use it on a Mini DisplayPort, with a simple adapter that forces the Mini DisplayPort into "Single-Link DVI compatibility mode". As long as you do not plan to run Three displays, this solution will work with an inexpensive adapter.

  • DVI connection not working, any ideas?

I just purchased a Powermac G4 1.0 DP (MDD) the other day. When I tested it out at the persons house that sold it to me it was working fine. However once I brought it home and tried connecting my DVI monitors, and neither of them worked.
Is there something different about the DVI connection on the graphics card that needs a special connection/adapter? Or is that DVI port on this model only for a second/dual monitor setup?
If this is the case, I suspect I'll need to buy a ADC->DVI adapter. Anyone know why the DVI doesn't appear to be working for me?

I found the answer, I suspect the DVI standards didn't work properly with the video card and my cable, which caused the monitor not to receive a signal. As the mac used DVI-I, and my cables were DVI-D.
I went to bestbuy and purchased a Dynex DVI->VGA adapter, and everything worked like a charm. ;]

  • DVI connection to second monitor doesn't work

When I had the connection from my Mac Pro to my two monitors (20" Cinema display and 19" Princeton monitor), I had the black screens for a few seconds for both monitors then return to normal. It happens anytime. I read the forum and changed the VGA cable to connect the 19" Princeton monitor and now both monitors work fine.
Do I have to live with the VGA cable option or anyone know how to utilize the DVI connection capability of Mac Pro please help?

    Hi Joe,
I tried to locate the right slot (x16) by going to
Expansion Slot Utility and changed from #1 to #2. It
showed my configuration of the PCI card now is x16 or
    fully speed.
The problem is still the same with DVI connection to
two monitors. Any other suggestions would be
    appreciated.

I'm fresh out of idea's. I assume that your card is a 7300GT, correct? I had an out of the box failure with mine and Apple replaced it. I was lead to believe that there were quite a few failures with the card. Interesting, they didn't even want the old one back.
I'd go the Applecare route next and see what they say. FYI, I have two of these running three monitors (all apple flat panels) all on DVI connectors.

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....

  • My office just bought me an iMac and I absolutely need to hook up a second monitor but there is no DVI connection on it, just a Thunderbolt. What do I do? Please help ASAP!!!

My office just bought me an iMac and I absolutely need to hook up a second monitor but there is no DVI connection on it, just a Thunderbolt. What do I do? Please help ASAP!!! The imac is a 21.5" and they also already bought an HD 21.5 ASUS LCD monitor to attach to it. I'm really trying to make this setup work but this is becoming a nightmare. Any suggestions? I looked up  different VGA adapters but the only options for this would be a usb-vga connection which doesn't work on macs. Can anyone tell me if this new Thunderbolt connection will work in some way? Thanks

Using the Thunderbolt port attach a Mini-display to DVI so long as the Asus display is equipped and capable, otherwise Mini-display to VGA will also work. The Thunderbolt port is ahead devices  which are not yet available to take advantage of the increased capacity in speed. Until the devices and connection cables are available, just use the port as a Mini-display port.

  • T420 can't use dual DVI connected monitors

I have a T420 connected to The ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 90W (433810U* - United States), DVI port 1 connected to monitor and VGA connected to second monitor using extended desktop.  This configuration works fine but when I hook up both DVI ports to my monitors only one of the screens work and in the Intel Graphics  and Media Control Panel only shows one monitor. I have 2 different cables 1 DVI-D dual-link and 1 DVI-D single link, the dual-link works with the VGA setup but with the 2 DVI connections only the monitor with the single link cable works.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • VGA vs. DVI connection on G5

I just got an LCD monitor for a G5 I'm getting tomorrow. The monitor has both VGA and DVI inputs and the G5 is coming with a DVI-VGA adaptor. The monitor comes with a VGA cable. So I ask stupidly (as I've always used the built-in crt monitor on Emacs) will an LCD monitor work noticeably better with a DVI connection versus a VGA connection, or is there possibly no difference? And if there is a differecne, what is it?

    Hi
IMHO it would be a shame to have a computer and monitor with a DVI connection and not make use of it. It should be DVI-D (digital) or DVI-I (digital/analogue), rather than just DVI-A (analogue). With digital DVI, each pixel you see on the monitor is an exact representation of the corresponding pixel in the frame buffer on the graphics card. In other words, the image you're seeing on the monitor is exactly as it was rendered and intended to be seen. With VGA (or DVI-A) the signal is analogue and under goes a conversion which can introduce artifacts etc. Whether you'll personally notice the difference I'm not sure, as I expect an LCD with an analogue signal will still be a considerable improvement over the eMacs CRT.

  • DVI connection on Monitor - Thunder or HDMI

    Hi,
I just got a new monitor that has a DVI connection.  Should I use the thunder port or the HDMI port?  I'm thinking with HDMI I would have to have some kind of extra converter thing right?
    Thanks

Have no idea. If this is from the Retina model then from what I hear the Res on external screens is not all that good. Many reports of blurried screens no matter what resolution or connection type is used. Try both pick the one you like the best.

  • DVI connection

Does the DVI connection carry sound as well as vision when connected to an external monitor with speakers

No. DVI out from the MBP carries video only - in fact, DVI itself can only carry the video signal. Note that you're posting in the unibody MBP forum - the newest models do not have DVI output, they have a mini-DisplayPort connector. DisplayPort can carry audio, but on the MBP it does not.
For audio out, you need to connect to the audio out port ('headphone jack') - that's actually a combined analog/digital port, and can use either a mini-stereo-to-RCA cable for analog sound to the display/TV, or a mini-toslink-to-toslink cable for digital (optical) transmission, if the external display/TV supports digital (optical) input.

    Hello,
Can I connect my XBOX360 to my laptop using the DVI connection?

    Hello Stephen
As far as I know DVI port on Satellite P100 is Video OUT port and you can not sent video signal from external device into notebook.

  • DVI connection to Lenovo 6622-HB1 isn't working with Windows 7. Any suggestions please?

I have a W510 in a 4338 Mini Dock Plus Series 3 running Windows 7. Previously I had a T60 in its docking station (2504) connected to a Lenovo 6622 (1680 by 1050) connected using the DVI connection which worked fine under WinXP, but the external monitor does NOT work any more with W510/Win 7. It DOES work with an analog connection but I would prefer to use the DVI.
The external DVI connection works at startup but once Windows 7 completes its initialization it becomes undetected.
Can anyone advise whether this is a recognised problem and whether a fix is available? Thanks

on the dock 3 plus there are two dvi ports, which one did you use?
