  • What's this sandboxd mdworker deny mach-lookup thing about?

My newer iMac keeps locking up over many months. It seems to be getting more frequent. All updated are made and I'm running OS10.8.2.
Each time I've looked at the console log one of the last entries has been related to mdworker and sandboxd.
This is the console immediatly surrounding the latest lockup and restart (having to use the powerbutton.)

You have a common problem with OS X 10.8.2, the "unable to talk to lsboxd" message. First of all, try to fix this. It's fixed just starting your Mac in safe mode, holding the Shift key while your computer is starting. Then, just after starting in safe mode, restart, and that message will disappear. Finally, see if your red message appears

  • Sandboxd and core audio crash error with MOTU828x interface

My new Motu 828x audio interface and Macbook crashes with errors like this - sandboxd[201]: ([613]) com.apple.WebKit(613) deny iokit-open com_motu_driver_FWA_UserClient.   After upgrading to OSx Mavericks.  It starts OK then error messages fill up the console screen then MOTU Audio Setup crashes.
The MOTU Audio App in System Info is showing that it is Unknown.  Is this an issue for Motu to get their drivers signed by Apple???
Im pretty new to techy problems like this and don,t no where to start.  I,ve tried a few things to try to stop it but the problem is still here.   Does anyone have the same issue or had something similar?.  I will give more info on request if required.
    Help is much appreciated.

o c'mon sonther! really, I know we have not gotten off to a good start, but i get the impression that your on me like stink on sh*t.
I thought LM's post was a little snide, and the use of caps is always a call to attention. seemed like a valid question that was asked, i got the impression 'hurry along out the door now' as well as some comment about 'reducing welfare'
if you have a bone to pick with me, we can keep at it, or we just give eachother space
btw someone did answer my post about rewiring logic into DP (labeit a different thread), which was very helpful

Although I'm not a software engineer, I've done some research on this...
This is a common entry type
WebProcess is trying to accerss a mach service, a component of the oepertaing system
Sandbox(ing) is a design concept for software, which should help apps be more stable & make it harder for malware ( viruses, et al ) to hijack an app for potentially nefarious purposes
So the operating system is informing the software developers, in this case @ Apple, that WebProcess is attempting to access something that it either shouldn't or needs to be given the correct permissions to access
There is nothing wrong with your computer.  This is a tool to help developers find where holes exist in their sandboxed apps.  There is nothing that you can do to fix this & it shouldn't cause any performance issues
WebProcess is a separate process from Safari.  Basically, Safari is the user interface to the browser & WebProcess is the web page.  Because it is usually the web page that causes crashes, Safari & WebProcess run independently of each other.  This way, when WebProcess crashes, it won't take down Safari.  Rather than rebooting the whole app, WebProcess needs only refresh the open tabs

  • Sandboxd & sshd are blocking SSH from my iPad ...

Using zaTelnet on iPad - which does ssh - port 22, thank you. I can connect fine to another Mac 10.6 box (?) as well as RHEL 5 machines from iPad ... I can connect to MY Mac OS X 10.6 box from other Macs & RHEL 5 machines ...
I know my way around Linux & Mac OS X (been here since NextStep days) ... changing /etc/sshd_config seems to have NO effect - only there for 'show'?
No router involved, firewall on/off - no diff. even connected to MY Mac from iPad via shared internet (en0 shared to airport).
    exact log entry (/var/log/system.log):
    Jan 11 14:34:07 MyMac sandboxd[1076]: sshd(1075) deny mach-per-user-lookup

I'm seeing the same error when I try to ssh to a Snow Leopard machine, but it works to SSH into a Leopard machine. hmmm?

  • Mail.app blocked from Keychain access by Sandboxd

Working on a clean install of Yosemite. Worked perfect for the first 2 weeks. Then mail all of a sudden cannot send without putting in admin creds for keychain access. I have done all the keychain resets, removed the account and re-added it. Obviously there has to be a way to add an application to trusted status for Security Server/sandbox to allow it access. The question is where and how.

I'm having the same issue since yesterday night, after changing the configuration of one specific SMTP connection.
Mail has been asking me for passwords several times in a row on every click in the inbox or on sending a mail.
The log message is the same, along the lines of "Mail(xxx) deny authorization-right-obtain system.keychain.modify".

  • Sandboxd error messages

I seem to get a variety of sandboxd related error messages that I have no idea how to solve. I've tried looking here, but none of the topics have quite had the exact same issue.
As background - I recently bought a 15" retina MacBook Pro, and used TimeMachine to move over all my files from my old late 2007 model iMac. But I ran into a problem with the MBP not waking the screen up after the energy saver has turned it off. And upon inspecting my Console, I discovered a raft of different sandboxd related error messages. I also checked the iMac (also running Mountain Lion), and the error messages were there too.
Many of them seem to involve the mdworker:
11/11/2012 17:38:23.375 mdworker[1966]: Unable to talk to lsboxd
11/11/2012 17:38:23.380 mdworker[1965]: Unable to talk to lsboxd

  • Sandboxd deny file-read-data to storeuid, appleeventsd, iconservicesagen... WHY?

In my console on the latest Yosemite, I get tons of spam from sandboxd where it is deny file-read-data from Apple's own processes: storeuid, appleeventsd, iconservicesagen, etc. Then there is deny file-issue-extension to com.apple.Safari.SearchHelper. What the heck is going on? Why is sandboxd denying Apple's own processes in the system? This computer is running so much slower than it should. Card readers don't even work with it anymore. We just put in a brand new hard drive and freshly upgraded to Yosemite.
Then there are all these BUG in process suhelperd: over-released legacy external boost assertions (1 total, 1 external, 0 legacy-external). About 100 of those appear. Then mdworker says:
code validation failed in the process of getting signing information: Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-67062 "The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -67062.)"
Can someone please make sense out of all this? How do I get these bugs, errors, and crap to STOP?

I feel your pain. I too have posted with a zillion errors in the log. Safari/Yosemite is now a complete and utter mess.
Screen shot of things going south with Apple.
I really thought I would never look at MS Windows again, but this is begging to prove me wrong. My MBP is now unusable. Tks Apple

  • 10.8.2 sandboxd errors

I went from 10.7 striaght to 10.8.2 so I have no idea if this Mountain Lion as a whole or just .2
My logs are full of page after page of these entries
    21/09/12 8:18:45.644 AM sandboxd[63712]: ([36979]) Mail(36979) deny file-read-data /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

I am not sure if there related but most of my Mail Rules, applescripts have stoped working. No errors, just no results.
Is anyone else seeing this kind of log activity? Is anyone else having problems with rules in mail that call applescripts?

Not really having issues, but since installing the Combo of 10.8.2, I'm seeing these errors in console as well:
mdworker[299]: Unable to talk to lsboxd
    sandboxd[296] ([299]): mdworker(299) deny mach-lookup com.apple.ls.boxd
    kernel[0]: Sandbox: sandboxd(314) deny mach-lookup com.apple.coresymbolicationd
I started a thread over at MacRumors with a few others seeing issues:
    http://att.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1446854
I did try clearing all system Caches....but that was no help.

  • Anyone know what this is? sandboxd: ([36729]) WebProcess

    (36729) deny file-write-create /Library/Caches/com.nvidia.OpenGL/F5C45580-0C5E-372B-946A-7F44E25BC8A0/9F5FDF13 5F0BC012/33180C74-B962-3ACC-A049-647FC9902413.toc

I am not from Apple but...
sandboxd: ([36729]) WebProcess refers to the module that renders Web pages in browsers like Safari. Recently Apple put web rendering in a "sandbox" to wall it off so that it's harder for web-based malware to attack your Mac. Can't say exactly what it is, but it is something to do with Web content.
Something that says nvidia OpenGL refers to drawing graphics with the video card. Again, don't know anything more specific than that.

I am on a MacBook Pro and I am having display glitches. The Dashboard, Dock and Cmd-Tab application switcher are high contrast and dark and some of the system font rendering is broken. When I log out and log in again everything is fine.
That sounds like you have a Universal Access system preference set to increased contrast. You might have accidentally pressed one of the keyboard shortcuts that alters contrast. To see what those are, open System Preferences, click Universal Access, and in the Seeing tab, note the DIsplay settings. Make sure the slider is set to Normal. If it is not set to Normal, something got changed that you didn't intend.

The sanboxd is preventing me from opening some, but not all, images with preview.

I have recently migrated from a macbook with 10.6 to a macbook air with 10.7. I used migration assistant via wifi.
The problem arises both on newly downloaded images as well as images that were transferred via migration assistant.
The file permission is 755, and File->View permissions looks perfectly fine.
Any idea what is causing this and how to I prevent this from happening again?

    Hi Linc,
thank you for the suggestion, but unfortunately it did not help. For the top directory, and all subsequent directories, I have read&write (755) permissions, as well as for the files that i can not open.
This appears to happen randomly. Some directories are affected, some are not, and it appears to happen to all files in certain directories.
Interestingly, if I control-click and select e.g. Explorer, I can view the image. Also, if I copy the file to my Desktop, I can also view the image. So it only happens to Preview in certain directories.

  • Sandboxd - what is this...

i'm getting errors from this process mainly while printing.
    05/07/10 22.13.15 sandboxd[48863] cupstomcdufr2(48854) deny file-write* /private/var/spool/cups/Library
(and infact i cannot print anymore)...
    but also :
    05/07/10 21.42.34 sandboxd[4586] sshd(606) deny file-read-data /private/etc/moduli

What? It returns *Scheduler (in What's New in CUPS 1.4)* which has this entry: +48. *Sandbox support*; the scheduler now runs child processes using restrictive policies on Mac OS X for improved security and job isolation.+

Sorry it was so difficult for you.

  • Sandboxd deny Preferences access to Mail.app

I'm getting a great many messages along the following lines:
    sandboxd[4326] ([4324]) <Notice>: Mail(4324) deny file-read-data /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
I'm running a fresh install of Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro with Retina. Any ideas where to fix this? I've tried modifying the permissions to that preferences file, but to no avail. I would imagine there is a sandbox directive somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it.

Looks like this was already discussed and fixed here:
