SAP NetWeaver component naming (and numbering)

I have noticed this week (10-Oct-2005) that a number of the NetWeaver components have been renamed. For example, Enterprise Portal now seems to be called NetWeaver Portal, etc.
What is the next 'evolution' of SAP NetWeaver component naming (and version numbering)?

Hi,
Just to add to my colleagues response. The SAP NetWeaver components are actually going away (they still exist for historic reasons). The new approach will start with SAP NetWeaver 2004s.
Because of the growth of SAP NetWeaver technology and the reuse of features from one component in another and in new capabilities there is little sense in retaining the components naming.
Is BI still BI if new functionality means you always access it through a portal for admin and query execution?
So as the portal needs J2EE, BI will requires ABAP, J2EE, Portals, kmc, and BI from SAP NetWeaver. Is this the same old BI? We don't think so.
This simply stops making sense to have pigeon holing component names on an ongoing basis especially when you start really blurring the lines between 'components'. They do not work!
So SAP is now delivering SAP NetWeaver features and functions as IT Practices and IT Scenarios. These replace the component based rollout of SAP NetWeaver. For more information see the SAP service marketplace (http://service.sap.com/netweaver)
You will still see the SAP NetWeaver 'fridge' slide as this is showing capabilities of SAP NetWeaver (example: BPM and Integration broker). Their will be more and more capabilities added as we add more meaningful groupings of technologies (example of recent ones: SAP NetWeaver MDM and Visual Composer).
So, in short the component names are going away and being replaced by IT Practices/IT Scenarios.
I hope this helps,
Mike.
P.S. Release numbers also history for SAP as we don't have components - so you will only see SAP NetWeaver release names like 2004s.

so let me know which Service pack is first.
Weather SP16 is first or SP7 is First.

    Hi mmukesh,
you have to understand that there a two seperate NetWeaver releases (NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 2004s) with their own support packages.

  • SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.rar CRC error?

    HI,
    I've downloaded the file:
SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.rar
of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 - Java and ABAP Trial Version on Linux - VMware Edition
four times and everytime a get a CRC error in the RAR file. Is the file wrong or the download incorrect?
    Regards, Edwin Slee

    Hi Henry.
I’ve downloaded the file again. Now it is called:
SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.tgz
But it is a RAR file.
As you suggested I open the file with WINRAR 3.61 and select
    Tools -> repair archive
In the directory a file:is created with the name:
    rebuilt.SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.tgz
    The WINRAR message box reads:
    Detecting archive type...
    ---> RAR
Build fixed.SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.tgz
    Searching for recovery record
    ---> recovery record not found
Build rebuilt.SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.tgz
    Found SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s002.vmdk
    Found SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s003.vmdk
    Found SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s004.vmdk
    Found SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s005.vmdk
When I open this file with WINRAR again a try to extract
SLES10SP1_Test_drive(2)-s003.vmdk I still get a CRC error, the archive file is corrupted.
I think the error isn’t due to the download, because I’ve downloaded the file using three different internet connections (8 times now) and all the files are identical, with a CRC error !

  • How to access SAP netweaver development Studio and PDK?

    Hi All,
I have access to EP server on my machine with super admin role .Is there any way I can acess SAP netweaver Developer Studio and PDK through EP server or I have to install in my local machine?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jasmine.

You'd want to install the NWDS application locally no matter what (unless everyone has a thin client/citrix connection via dumb terminal). You can however, opt to install a local instance of EP or use a central instance. Here's how I see the two approaches:
1-install the NWDS on developers' machines and deploy to a development instance of EP
    <b>PROS:</b>
i-developers can develop locally and only connect to the EP server for deploying/testing
ii-share development (although not very efficiently) and test each others' iViews etc.
iii-demo your work online to business users directly
iv-connect to the corporate SAP R/3 and other ERP systems
    <b>CONS:</b>
i-you can only use this while connected to the network
ii-could be slow over a slow/remote network connection
iii-developers may not be able to do everything on the portal server (may not have super admin access)
2-install the NWDS on the developers' PC along with a test EP environment
    <b>PROS:</b>
i-develop and deploy locally, without a network connection, anywhere and anytime, fast and efficient
ii-enjoy full access (super admin) to the Portal - to be able to test pretty much everything
    <b>CONS:</b>
i-may not be able to connect to the company SAP R/3 and other ERP systems, unless you're connected to the network and have configured the connections
ii-not able to get others to test or demo your development without having to port them to a central EP instance
I think a developer needs every resource they can get, therefore I suggest a combination of the above two scenarios, an instance of EP locally and a central instance of EP for the best of both worlds

  • SAP Netweaver Developer Studio and MDK

    Hi,
I've the same problem of this thread with NWDS 7.1 SP11
    [SAP Netweaver Developer Studio and MDK;
No one have solved the previous thread, there are any one that have a solution?
    Best regards,
    Alessandro.

    HI,
the easiest solution for this: use the MI7.1 plugin for MI7.1 projects and create the JAR file for MI7.0 manually by Export funtion of Eclipse. This works fine and should be the only workable solution.

  • SAP NetWeaver MDM - Project and Bachelor Thesis

    Hello,
I am a German student of business information systems. I will write my project and bachelor thesis about u201Chow to synchronize and interchange the master data of an existing non-sap portal, with an existing sap erp systemu201D.
Therefore I would like to use the SAP NetWeaver Platform with SAP NetWeaver MDM. The thesis shall consist of two parts. First, the project thesis shall contain the requirements analysis and the specification. The bachelor thesis shall contain the implementation of these systems.
But there is one big problem. Is there any possibility to get SAP NetWeaver for educational propose, e.g. for free or for a free trial? At the download area of the sdn webpage, I found an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 u2013 Java Trial Version. Does this NetWeaver-Version include the Master Data Management Component? Does I need any other SAP-Systems to exchange the Master Data between these two Systems?
    Thanks a lot,
    Christian
Edited by: Christian Beining on Jun 26, 2008 6:28 PM

    Hi Christian,
you can get a trial version of MDM as a SAP customer (in Germany via your SAP software distributor). If you have only access to a SAP university system I don't think you will get access to MDM and XI (at least they don't have it at my university). But of course you can ask your professor or SAP representative maybe they can help you. As far as I know all SAP university systems in Germany are hosted centrally in Munich and I don't think that they also provide such special solutions like MDM.
Doing a similar job in my thesis I can only recommend you to do this project only then if you have definitely access to all needed systems and having some people around with knowledge in additonal needed tools like XI or administration of SAP systems. Doing it all at your own without having SAP knowledge in the important points (system and database administration, software deployment, XI) is not realistic in a 5 month period when you have to build a SAP system landscape on your own in top of your project.
    Hope that helps. BR, bd

  • SAP R/3 and SAP Netweaver: changes, advantages and disadvantages

    Hello,
i am interested in SAP R/3 and SAP Netweaver. Are there existing articles which describe in detail the architecture of both systems and improvements of the new system. I want to know which changes the developers made an why they did it? What are the advantages of the new Netweaver system? Are there disadvantages? Does someone have some links to articles which deal with those questions? Thanks.
    Kind regards,

    Dear Philipp,
There is a separate section for SAP Netweaver in SDN forum. Check that section and you will get the solution to your query.

  • SAP Netweaver Architect Document and its place in SDLC

    Hi All,
I am looking forward to look at a sample SAP Netweaver Architect Documument or a Template and want to understand the scope and all details included in the perview of this document.
I understand that Tech Architect Document will be prepared in SDLC after the blueprint is generated.
And a Tech Architect document has the entire landscape integration details along with Non Functional details like performance , scalability etc.
Can some one please send a sample Technical Architect Document based on SAP Netweaver ( Portal ) and explain where does it commence in SDLC .
    Many Thanks,
    Richa

    Hi Richa,
a good place to start would be the Master Guide to NW 7.4 SR1 on SAP Market Place which is here.
The guide goes through everything for planning a NW installation including of course Portal and planning the Landscape design and architectura questions.

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.1 and Web Services

    Hi All,
Can I deploy Web Services(dswsbobje.war) on Sap Netweaver 7.1 ?
Where I can find documentation about that ?
    Best Regards,

    Hi Anne-Lise,
You going to struggle to get this working on the CE server side. SAP xml deserialization works in a similar fashion as JAXB deserialization & JAX-WS ref. implementation in that it's fault tolerant, so it will just log a warning message if the severity of your tracing location is set to 'Warning'
You could adopt the mediated SAP PI approach that Gourav has suggested OR increasing the severity of your tracing location & try to catch the warning message in you logic from the log OR (very dirty) just add aditional logic to try & catch it.
Ultimately, you would want the consumer to fix their problems first though

  • SAP Netweaver Developer Studio and error

    Hi,
I am getting the below error in NWDS while creating project from an existing DC.
An intenal error has occured. See error log for more details.
    Plugin name: Webdynpro Archive Builder.
    Plugin ID: com.sap.ide.webdynpro.archivebuilder
    Class : com.sap.ide.webdynpro.archivebuilder.project.WebdynproDevelop
    Method: createJavaProject(IProject, IprogressMonitor)
    Message: File/Server_track_DCname/.classpath is read-only.
On giving OK and when I checked in Webdynpro perspective, i could not find the Project created.
    Regards,
    Manchari

    Hi Manchari,
this happens if someone accidentally checked in the .classpath file into the DTR. This file should not be part of the DTR (this is a "non-dtr" resource) only necessary on client side. What happens is that the NWDS on client side tries to sync this file from the DTR (since it has been checked in there) but the file also exists already on client side created by the NWDS and marked it as read-only. The solution is to get rid of these non-dtr resources as they are only necessary for local build and local file generation. Other non-dtr resources are for instance (without the sake of completeness!) the .metamodel , the .project file, the folders bin, gen_wdp, gen_ddic (you can always compare other folders to see which files and folders are not necessary. Never remove the ".dcdef" file and the folder "src").
    The fixing instructions are :
    1.please navigate to
      /usr/sap/XYZ/SYS/global/com.sap.dtr.console
    2.execute the run.bat
(if this is unix, then please do not forget to replace the ";" by ":" inside the run.bat)
    3. when you managed to start it, the prompt (">") will appear.
    4. feel free to use the "help" command, but in the following example you'll also see how to proceed.
    5. connect <yourhost>:<yourport> <nwdi admin user> <password>
    Example: **
       localhost:xyzadm 72> ./run.bat
       > connect <host>:5<instnum>00 <nwdi admin user> <mynwdiadminpass>
    6. use the "ls" command to locate the resource to be deleted. You can also use the "pwd" command to print the current working directory. Almost the same commands as on unix.
    Example: **
       localhost:/>ls
       Fri, 7 Mar 2008 03:08:25 GMT                .
       Mon, 15 Nov 2010 17:52:59 GMT           system-tools/
       Fri, 7 Mar 2008 03:08:25 GMT                ws/
    7. locate the resource using the "cd" command
    Example: **
       cd /ws/<track>/sap.com_SAP_ESS/dev/inactive/DCs/sap.com/ess/us/w4/_comp
    8. delete bin
    9. delete gen_ddic
    10 delete gen_wdp
    11. do the same for dev/active and for cons/inactive and for cons/active
    12. delete the project for the DC on the client side in NWDS.
    13. recreate the project for the DC
    14. you should be done.
See also a similar SDN entry here:
NWDI files turning into read only mode when tried to check out.

  • System Copy for SAP Netweaver 2004 ABAP and Java

    Dear Friends,
We are planning to do System copy for CRM 4.0 (ABAP+Java) from PROD to Quality.
    Production has following
    Production
    CRP (ABAP+JAVA, Oracle 10g)
CR1 (Java Standalone, CRM Applications, Oracle 10g)
CR2 (Java Standalone, CRM Applications, Oracle 10g)
    Test
    CRT (ABAP+JAVA, Oracel 10g)
CR1 (Java Standalone, CRM Applications, Oracle 10g)
As per my understanding perfrom System Copy in two methods
    1. Using Offline backup of CRP from the Split Mirror backup.
    2. Export of the CRP from the Split Mirror backup.

If you have Split Mirror available you could definitely use it. Redirected restore or export/import are the alternatives. You could also use file copy (system offline is preferred).

  • Solution Manager - Logical Component for SAP Netweaver EHP2

    Hello,
I installed the newest SAP Netweaver Ehp2 (with usage type AS ABAP only) for a future integrating with BI_CONT (SAP BI requirement). So... what I want to know is... I want to do an update of support packages to the latest Stack (SPS) and in this product version (NW EHP2) the latest stack is stack 06 !! But I ´m facing with a problem which is, because I have to maintain this system in Solution Manager (for Maintenance Optimizer activity)...so what I want is configure this new system on Solution Manager Ehp1 (with SPS 23) but in tcode SMSY I didn´t found this Product in Logical Components for I can apply this system to my Solution... I only see SAP Netweaver with EHP1 and not with EHP2 which is the version that I want to apply this new system. (This is mandatory task, because without it, I will not be able to download the support packages for NW 7.0 EHP2)
Tell me two things... first if this level version of Solution Manager that I have here (SPS 23) have this product in logical components, and two... if not it, is necessary to raise the level of Solution Manager support packages (to latest stack SPS 25) for I can see that logical component SAP Netweaver EHP2?!
    Thank you very much
    João Dimas - Portugal

    Hi João,
You can verify if the EHP2 is available (if) in your system, this can be done once you are in SMSY -> Product Definitions -> SAP Netweaver where you should able to see the EHP2. If so, then it's a matter of marking the leading Product & Product Version under the Header Data ->Change Product Assignment where you can use the drop down arrow to select the Product and Product Version. If it's not available, then by checking the 'Free Product / Select Product Version' then use the drop down arrow to select the product & Product Version, once you selected that then click on copy and mark that as active and save.
Then you need to create a new logical component in System Group & logical Component under SAP Netweaver, then assign the system to the logical component. Once this is done you can use the logical component in a solution and create a maintenance transaction.
I hope this help you to proceed further, thanks.

  • New IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and 2004s

In May 2006 IBM System p brand and SAP announced the direction to enhance the IBM AIX 5L JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and SAP NetWeaver 2004s based applications. The new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver applications on AIX 5L is 100% upward compatible for all SAP business applications and, compared to the classical AIX JDK, provides a more consistent runtime behavior, enhances memory management, and improves debugging capabilities.
<b>General Availability (GA) of the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and 2004s on AIX 5L</b>
As part of a staged release process aligned between IBM and SAP a customer pilot program was started in August 2006 followed by a Controlled Availability (CA) program. Based on positive customer feedback resulting from real production usage and the very encouraging internal test results, the new IBM JDK on AIX 5L is/will be generally available
    •     for SAP NetWeaver 2004 SP14 and above starting at 5th of February 2007
                    and
    •     for SAP NetWeaver 2004s SP06 and above starting at 30th of March 2007.
This means systems running above SAP NetWeaver releases in an AIX 5L environment are allowed to use the new IBM JDK without restrictions.
This announcement does not affect the use and support of the classical AIX JDK outside SAP environments.
<b>Transition Plan to the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 on AIX 5L</b>
SAP will support the classical and the new JDK in parallel for a limited number of NetWeaver support packages. Afterwards only the new IBM JDK will be supported:
    •     for SAP NetWeaver 2004 the first support package only supporting the new JDK will be SP21 (planned date for SP21 see http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700001130682005E),
    •     for SAP NetWeaver 2004s it will be SP14 (planned date for SP14 see http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700004584092005E).
So please plan a transition to the new JDK prior to the upgrade to these support packages.
SAP and IBM strongly believe that the switch to the new JDK will improve your experience with JAVA based SAP applications on AIX 5L. Both companies recommend upgrading to the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP applications running on AIX 5L as soon as it matches your company’s maintenance plans.

You can download the JDK directly from the sun java website...
    http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.4.2_12/index.html
I don't think Ubuntu is supported...

  • "Only assign one SAP NetWeaver product version to product system"

    Greetings,
Somehow, after upgrading my PI system from NW 7.11 to NW 7.4, the SAP-XICONS component was left at the lower version. Everything else was upgraded and SUM didn't complain about this component. The component was present in the stack.xml file and the SCA was available. Yet somehow it was missed.
Now I am unable to use SUM to update the component. There seems to be no way to get the LMDB to reflect the actual versions of this system and have Maintenance Optimizer function.
After I assigned everything in the LMDB, the Verification Check says "Only assign one SAP NetWeaver product version to product system". And then MOPZ gives errors such as: "Wrong Netweaver product version found SAP NETWEAVER 7.4" and "Multiple Netweaver Product Version were found".
However, if I remove the assignment of 7.11, MOPZ is still unable to calculate the queue. It even gives the same errors.
How can I fix this? Is there some other way to generate the stack or get SUM to upgrade the component?

The root cause was MOPZ marking the component incorrectly in the stack XML.
The resolution was to use telnet to 5xx08 to manually deploy the SAP-XICONS archive.

Hello A few years ago I worked on a greenfield project where we were building a system to serve 20 or so different departments with 1200+ users. The approach the existing DBA had taken was to use a single schema for all objects and for all apps. The
