  • ITunes won't recognize iPod, but Windows will...

When I plug in my iPod a Windows folder comes up, showing the folders within the iPod, but iTunes doesn't recognize that it is connected. I have the latest iTunes(5.0) and iPod software. What's going on here?
Also: Are there any advantages to defragmenting and error checking the iPod's harddrive?

    Try to reset the iPod.

I am having problems with the month of October.  When I have the full month view, the synced items from google calendars won't show.  But they do for all the other months.  There is definitely a glitch somewhere because if I am on day view and try to click on day 15 of October, it will not let me.  It totally is acting weird.

Free fonts, fonts from a reliable foundry?
Have you tried removing them temporarily?
Do you still have problems if you create a new Windows user account and log in with that? How about if you start in Safe Mode?
And I would run a memory checker and see Troubleshoot font problems | Windows

  • I spilled a little bit of soda on my keyboard ( more like big drops) and my computer won't turn on but it will still charge.  After i spilled it it kept trying to turn on and off by itself until i finally just shut it down

I spilled a little bit of soda on my keyboard ( more like big drops) and my computer won't turn on but it will still charge.  After i spilled it it kept trying to turn on and off by itself until i finally just shut it down.  Today i tried to turn it back on ( i spilled it last night) and now it won't turn on but when i plug it in the orange light comes on so it still charges.

TBF: You may have been lucky enough not to cripple your MBP immediately with your spill, but a spill such as you describe will have left obvious traces if you ever need to take your machine in for a repair of any kind. And as soon as evidence of the spill is found, any chance of the necessary repairs being performed under warranty will be gone.
Taking the machine in now to be cleaned and have the greasy parts replaced will be expensive, but doing so may save whatever remains of your warranty. For a price, Apple will restore the machine to like-new condition, and at the very least, you will then have a 90-day repair warranty on it. If you have significantly more time than that remaining on your original one-year warranty, and especially if you've bought the extended AppleCare Protection Plan, it would probably be worth taking the machine in to a Genius Bar for a look-over. Ask whether, if you have Apple clean and repair the machine now, your new-computer warranty and AppleCare plan will be reinstated afterward or whether all you'll have is the short repair warranty from now on. If the spill will negate your warranty and AppleCare even if you have Apple clean it, then the cleaning probably isn't worth paying for. But if paying for the cleaning will get your warranty and AppleCare reinstated, it may be worth doing.

  • Z87-G45 Detects SSD, but not Windows installed in it

So the problem started last night when my computer wanted to "update and shut down". I did that, and the next startup, the Killer 2200 would not work. So I followed the steps here to get rid of the killer suite and install just the driver. Hours later, I suffered my first BSOD with the error msg IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Now, every time I boot up, it will NOT detect the Windows 8.1 boot up, but it DOES detect the SSD that window's is installed.
So how do I fix it every time? I keep reflashing and reinstalling BIOS version 1.9, that has been the only method that has gotten my computer to detect windows.
I have talked to support already and they informed me that I need to send the motherboard in for repair/exchange. But does anyone have any advice in maybe attempting to fix this issue?

    Hi,
Your SSD or memory might be damaged.
Try use only one RAM stick at one time , and try with different RAM stick,
or run memtest/HDD test tool to see if the RAM/SSD is okay.

  • Console won't detect card - Fixed, at least for me

Hey guys, I'm running a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Yesterday, I got a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro (not the professional one for musicians) Sound card. I installed it no problems and installed all the appropriate programs from the Creative website - Win 7 x64 drivers etc. It worked perfectly all day yesterday while I was playing on my 40 inch screen, while using the Tritton AXPro 5. headset. No problems yesterday. The problem is just a short while ago, I went to turn on the Creative Console Launcher, so I could play around with the settings. However, I get the following error message "The Audio Device supported by this application is not detected. This application will exit". I tried reinstalling the drivers and the program, then rebooted my computer. I'm still getting audio, connected by optical cable to the AXPro decoder box. Creative SB X-fi shows up in Device Manager, so why is it that Windows can detect and use the card, but the actual Creative programs can't? They were working fine just yesterday and between now and then, I haven't actually done anything - I haven't installed anything, beyond a definition update for Microsoft Security Essentials. The Creative Software Autoupdate program says it detects the sound card, driver version 2.7.8, but its the Console I want (ya know, the reason I bought the card, so I could get EAX, and CMSS-3D?)
Oh and I can't switch PCI slots. I have two PCI-E x and a PCI-E x6, and my graphics card is in the way of the other x slot, so can't do anything there. It's just...the software worked perfectly yesterday, and now, for no reason whatsoever, it just failed.

Well, I've got the Console Launcher working again. Spent three hours fixing it. What I did was, for everyone else with the same problem
1.) Uninstall all the Creative Programs, in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs
2.) In Control Panel/Device Manager, go to your Creative X-FI and DELETE the driver for it. Yes, delete it.
    3.) Restart your computer.
4.) Go into your BIOS and disable your onboard sound card.
5.) Let your computer reinstall automatically the drivers for your sound card. At one point for, there was a setup program running that just wouldn't show itself, so I ended it in Task Manager, no biggie.
6.) Look up Daniel_K on this forum and download his setup pack.
7.) Install it, restart your computer.
8.) Let Creative Software Autoupdater work, let it update all your programs.
9.) Restart again, and make sure in Control Panel/Sound, that you have selected the correct output for the sound card (Speakers for the analog connectors, or optical like me).

  • ITunes won't detect firmware 4.3.3 for iPhone 3GS

I've read about the problem where it doesn't download it and you have to turn off the firewall etc.  However my problem is that it just won't detect it at all.  I check for updates and it says that my iphone is update to date which is running on a 4.2.1.  I even tried to manualy do by downloading the firmware and going into recovery mode on the phone and shift clicking restore but then it says that the firmware is not compatible with my phone.
The phone is an iPhone 3GS not jailbroken running on 4.2.1.
    Running Windows 7 64bit.
I have the most recent version of iTunes.
I did the whole virus protection being off, firewall off and changing the host file thing.
Nothing seems to work and I'm not sure what else to do here.  I thought perhaps the 4.3.3 firmware wasn't for the 3GS but reading about it seems it is so I'm not sure why iTunes won't detect it.

    Try getting it from here
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/05/04/ios-4-3-3-download/
Download the version for your phone, then connect the phone to iTunes and hold SHIFT while clicking Check for Updates. You can then install the file you downloaded above.

  • QT won't play certain .avi files but VLC will - Both files using same codec

    Hi,
I have numerous video files and all but two will play on quicktime. However, they will play on VLC. The files are .avi just like the others and the codecs on the two streams are xvid and mpga. The other .avi files have the same codecs. I have all the norm codecs perian, div x, x vid etc.
The files do open in quicktime but only last 5 seconds as opposed to the full 42 or so minutes. The audio and video for the 5 seconds is fine. On VLC, they play for the entire 42 or so minutes.
any idea why they will play on VLC but not fully on quicktime? is there another codec I should get? Thanks for your help

Could be timecode breaks (would normally suspect the audio track). The QT Player is particularly strict with them. If you have QT Pro, you might try extracting both tracks to separate players and see which is causing the problem. If just the audio, you could then fix the timecodes (MPEG Streamclip?) or convert to another compatible format and and re-merge the original video with the "fixed" audio track.

  • Archiving to DVD, but want it for later use

    Hi,
I have read a number of posts about archiving footage, but either I am daft or my specific concerns haven't quite been answered.
I have a number of short clips (20-25 minutes) that have filled up my hard drive. They are all above DVD storage limitations, but I need to take them off. However, I am not totally done with them. I may want to re-edit some of them later.
The other posts seem to suggest my only options are re-exporting them to tape or getting an external hard drive.
    Is there no other way?

What other way are you looking for???
    Back up methods:
    1) Back up tape drives. Most reliable, extremely cost ineffective for individual use.
    2) Back up video to miniDV tape. Best option to archive video material. Cost effective but time consuming.
    3) Use hard drives. Depending on the frequency of needing hard drives, purchasing a hot swappable case can be beneficial. Hard drives are inexpensive per GB, the fastest of all options, and fairly reliable.
    4) Optical Media. The least reliable of the back up options. Time consuming sorting and burning media. Cost per GB is comparable to hard drives but seems less expensive as you can by a spindle of 20 discs for less than a hard drive.
If there is another back up option, I don't know of it!

  • BIOS detects M500 SSD but Windows 8 Does not

Hi Crucial, I am hoping you can assist me with the situation below,
I have just placed my new Crucial M500 480 gb in my Alienware M17x R4 Laptop, The BIOS detects the newly placed SSD Crucial M500, however when I login into Windows 8, My Computer does not show the new SSD, only my old HDD. In addition I have checked the cmd window and scanned the system for disks, Could you please provide advice on how to proceed and enable windows to detect the SSD? Kind Regards, Toby Butcher

Hello, This did not work for me.  Disk management does not recognize the SSD drive so I dont get the pop-up. I have an HP Envy 1414 with a six core AMD processor.  I can see it in bios though. I have updated to the latest bios on the mother board.  I have restarted several times. I tried to switch from RAID to AHCI but the pc would not boot.  Re-scanned hardware in device manager. I am just trying to use this as a data drive and don't need to boot from it. I just bought this from Amazon and would like to keep.  My 32GB of RAM is from Crucial and that works great.

  • MS-6570 5.6 BIOS won't detect proper CPU speed

I recently flashed my BIOS to the newest 5.6 release, only to have it detect my Athlon 2400 as an 1800. I have the FSB set at 133 mhz, but the CPU multipler only goes up to 13 when I need it at 15 to work correctly. Should I just flash an older release?

thats a Nforce broard and that has no 5.6 bios?
    Take a look MS 6570
You must check your your board again and make sure it MS 6570 and if it does then you flash with wrong bios
If 6570 is not the product number than please tell us what it is.

  • Flash won't detect Cameras, but works on Chrome

Updated to flash 11.0.1.152, now any web chat site that uses flash can only detect the built in iSight camera - none of the other cameras that I have attached. Flash detects all cameras while using Chrome, but not Firefox. Does anyone know why it doesn't work with Firefox?

When I open those links, I get blank pages. I wonder if they are uploaded properly. The MP3 should play directly in my browser and I should see player controls to start and stop the movie, but I don't see them. To see if the flash movie actually loads, you could give it a background color like red or yellow. If you don't see that, it means you didn't upload it or something went wrong. When I rightclick in a working Flash movie, I see a different context menu with options like "zoom in". I can't do that anywhere, which makes me suspicious.
So I tested using HTTPFox (Firefox addon) and got the following results, which means both files are problematic, so they are not uploaded properly.

  • BIOS doesn't detect HD but system still boots - then hangs while working

Daughter brought her HP DV9500 (Vista SP2 32bit) home. Very suspicious of malware. If I check the BIOS, it does not see the hard drive (nor does that option appear in the boot menu). However, if you boot the machine, it will load Vista and allow you to log in. After about 10-30 seconds usage, the keyboard and mouse buttons freeze and what was on the screen still remains with that bloody awful circle going round and round. Now the mouse will still move across the screen via the touchpad or a usb mouse but the keyboard is dead as are the mouse buttons.
I can boot parted magic on UBCD and access all the files on the C: drive (one physical, three partitions including a recovery partition - how it came from the factory) and run all day long. Disk diagnostics on UBCD show the hard drive is present and no errors. However, the bios diagnostic says replace the hard drive.
I've rebuilt the BCD using Microsofts bootrec to no avail.
I'm trying to get it sane enough to offload 4 years worth of pictures, music, and classwork, etc. and then I'll try restoring the OS from the recovery partition.
I should mention that I ran an older Linux bootable version of Avira (dated Sept 2009) and it noted multiple occurrences of html/infected.webpage.gen as well as two other (going to try to recover the names from the Avira logfile).
    Thanks in advance.
