Satellite 1130-Z31: Cannot get 1600x900 on second monitor

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1130-Z31 (old one, but still works well).
Now i have attached a second monitor with a native resolution of 1600x900 pixels.
I have set the resolution of the second monitor to 1600x900, this is accepted.
However, the image on the second monitor looks ugly, and the external monitors OSD says it gets 1440x900 pixel signals from the laptop.
It seems that the Toshiba sends an image with a lower resolution than set.
I have installed the latest graphics driver - no change.
Or could this be a problem with a poor quality VGA cable or so?
Any ideas?

Unfortunately I was not able to find info which resolutions are supported for external displays but if you cannot get 1600x900 pixels that mean that this resolution is not supported by graphic card.
Which video port do you use? VGA 15 pin port maybe?

Satellite 1130-Z31: Keyboard constantly prints "1"

I own a Satellite 1130-Z31 and have the problem that the "1" key is stuck. For example it constantly prints "1111111111..." ad infinity.
This is the result of a fluid spill which happened about 9 months ago. Up until yesterday the keyboard didn't have this problem though.
I'd like to either clean or exchange the keyboard (or its conductive foils) but need instructions on how to do it. Suppliers of replacement keyboards seem to be mainly in the US, hence I'd be happy if Toshiba has a spare part distributor in Sydney as well.

thanks for your help. By looking at guides of other Toshiba notebooks describing how to disassemble the keyboard I could figure out how to remove mine, that part's solved. All I need now is a (used, good idea!) keyboard.
Does anyone know where I can look up the correct part number? I contacted a US-based ASP but they were "unable to confirm a compatible parts listing for [my] machine". If they can't, who can? The full notebook number is PS113E-1Y13S-GR/S1130-Z31 (German model, but I don't mind a US keyboard since I'm in Australia).

Cannot get a 1 second transition when I drag and drop 2 or more subclips

Hi I am having a problem with subclips not using the default transition of 1 second when I drag and drop them onto the canvas. I have read about file handles and I have made sure that the subclips are long enough for a 1 second transition.
Here are my steps so that you can simulate it.
- get a sample clip (a few minutes)
- double click it and creat an in / out point .
- then create a subclip (Apple U) that is say 30seconds-1 minute.
- create another subclip from the main clip of about a miute long as well.
- select and then drag / drop them onto the canvas (not timeline) using a transition (which is the default transition of 1 second).
- once the clips (2) go to the timeline you can see that they have a transition of 12 frames not 1 second long.(double clip on the transition in the timeline)
I have tried all sorts of things and clearing out prefernces and wipe reinstall, but I cant drag and drop and get a 1 second transition on a subclip
my setup is:
final cut 6
leopard
mini (intel)

I should add that I am getting a transition of length 12 frames but not the full default 1 second (24 frames) transition length.

Doc getting stuck on second monitor

On occassion my doc gets stuck on my second monitor even if my main monitor is the active display. Anyone else having this issue? Any way to disable the Mavericks new dual display feature?

Sony PFM-42V1: I cannot get any audio from monitor

I cannot get any audio from my PFM-42V1. first: I connected independent speakers via speaker sockets - result no sound. Then after reading its Manuel it suggested I connect headphones to the monitor's audio mini jack - again no sound. What I do not understand is it said if sound doesn't work with headphones - contact computer manufacturer. Any suggestions?

From your description it sounds like your using input 1 or input 2, you will need to feed a audio source into the 1/8 mini female jack (Fig. 1) next to input your using. This will allow the audio to pass to the speakers you've connected to the monitors speakers jacks (Fig 2). Also you'll want to make sure that within the Monitor Menu under Custom Setup that you have Speaker Out: On (not off).

Can't get palettes onto second monitor

I am using Photoshop CS4 and I just upgraded to Mavericks. When I opened PS I discovered that all the palettes that normally reside on a second monitor are now all on the same monitor with my PS document and I can’t drag them to the second monitor. It seems that PS does not recognize there is a second monitor there. I can drag documents and palettes from other applications onto this monitor so it appears to be only a PS issue. Is anyone else having this problem and is there a solution?

This is probably a silly question, but have you rebooted your Mac? It's silly to ask because most likely the OS upgrade required a reboot, but hey, I don't know the specifics.

I cannot get my new second isight to work on my titanium G 4 powerbook

My situation is as follows:
I have a macbook pro and Mac-Mini both with the intel chip and a 12 and 17 inch Powerbook G 4. and a Titanium G 4 Powerbook 15 inch. I have isight on the macbook pro and purchased a two isight devices to use on my other computers. The isight is working on all my computers except the titanium G 4 powerbook I use the Titanium G 4 Powerbook in my office. The computer in my office is the older Titanium and I recently bought a isight device for it. I cannot seem to get this computer to fully have the video become hooked up to the titanium G 4. The computer seems to identify the isight but cannot gain any isight video contact with my other computers. I use my own network and use aol and .mac. The titanium is in my office where all use windows and an internal network and road runner e-mail.
When I open ichat and attempt to open preferences of ichat i get the following message.
NSInvalidArgumentException:
* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value
The software in the Titanium power book is system 10.4.8 and the ichat is version 3.1.5 and in utilities the folder is isight updater 1.0.3. I am at a loss at how to further address this problem.
Please advise.

Satellite M60-BK3: Cannot get sound after Vista installation

Hi,
I've installed Windows Vista Ultimate Edition (32bits) on my Toshiba Satellite M60-BK3, but I can't get any sound either the correct video settings. I've searched on the internet and it seems that this Satellite family is not supported to be upgraded to Windows Vista :S
Does anyone have any idea of how can I get these drivers in order to make my laptop work fine with Vista??

This Satellite M60-BK3 model is not known to me. Where did you purchase it???
Try to install a hardware diagnostic tool to find out what sound chip and graphic card this notebook supports.
Then you could download the drivers from part manufacturer site.

Satellite Pro A120 - Cannot get the PCMCIA card to work

OK i have a problem with my Satellite Pro A120's (xp service pack 2) cardbus.
I use the cardbus slot to add firewire conections via a IEEE 1394 cardbus card and have been doing this a long time. The other night my comp went into hibernate with the card still in the slot and still in use and when i tried to use it the next day the card was not working at all.
So i thought the had died on me and brought another one, this one to be exact [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839314003] .
When i plug the new card into the slot windows starts the installation add new hardware thing but does not find the driver, there is none on the provided CD and it does not conect to windows update to find one ethier. So the new card does not work and does not get installed, it just shows up with ! next to pci device.
I have looked everywhere on the internet to find the driver, read the manual etc.I even did a fresh install of windows so it might find the drivers but nope.
The only thing i can think of is the slot does not except 32 bit cardbus but in my manual it says this:
"The computer is equipted with a pc card slot that can accomedate a type II card. Any pc card that meets industry standards can be installed. The slot supports 16 bit pc cards, including pc cards 16 multifunction card and cardbus pc cards. Cardbus supports a new standard of 32 bit pc cards."

Thanks for your help but i ahve already tried this including searching the net for the driver and no luck. I've also tried microsoft update but no luck.
The reason i can't find the drivers is because the cardbus card is supposted to be plug and play but windows doesn't have them.
The good news is i found out my old card was 32-bit just like the new one so my laptop is compatible. I don't want to just go and by another card incase that one won't work.

Satellite A500/02J: Cannot get REGZA/HDMI link to work

I have a Satellite A500/02J laptop with hdmi out, and i have a hdmi control program pre-installed from toshiba.
I just recently purchased a REGZA 32AV500A LCD toshiba television and have my computer running through the tv via hdmi.
However, my tv has regza link and as far as I can tell my computer supports regza/hdmi control however i cant get the link to work.
I have a windows meda centre remote which i can use to put the computer to sleep and wake it back up.
However one remote is better than two, also i need to be able to boot the computer from shutdown just by turning the tv on. Under hdmi control i can set the computer to shutdown when the tv is turned off however i dont know how to have the computer boot from shutdown simply by turning the tv on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

The user manual says that the remote control of the connected TV can be used to operate some of the computer functions which are:
use the TV remote control to output the computer screen onto the TV screen
use the TV remote control to launch operate and close applications on your computer
Turn on the TV when the HDMI output is selected using the FN + F5 key
Switch the video output (HDMI or LCD) when executing certain desktop icons
Enable/disable the REGA link function on the computer
But you should also check your TV settings and notebooks BIOS settings.
Im not quite sure if the HDMI REGZA option is available in the BIOS but its worth a check
I have scoured through the user manual trying to find an answer to this. Im not trying to use the remote to control the tv, I want to use the computer to tell the tv to power up. I have a logitech K400 keyboard that I use to both put the computer to sleep and to wake it up.
However, I want the tv to auto power on (and auto power off once the signal is removed) once I wake my computer back up and a signal is sent through the HDMI cable. REGZA link indicates that this is possible, both my tv and laptop have REGZA link. I want to eliminate the remote from my living room.

Cannot get songs from second PC to iPhone

I have iTunes on two PCs. When I plug my iPhone in to one I'm able to see my device and transfer songs to the phone. On the second PC I cannot see the device. Both PCs have been authorized, I'm logged on to both with the same ID. The phone is primarily used as a phone, but it would be nice if I could load music from the second computer as it's my main library.

You will have to check the manually manage music box.
Changing from syncing to manually managing will indeed erase the current content.
Why not just sync the music?

Satellite 1130-z28: Cannot boot from portable drive

my Teac dw 224e drive from Toshiba Satelite 1130-z28 doesn't work. The problem in I've tried to replace it with 3 different types of cd rom drive and none was working.
The led lits, but I can't boot from them and windows doesn'n even recognize them. Is it possible my portable works only with the same kind of CD unit?

I assume the drive doesnt work because of wrong drive settings.
Its important that the drive supports right (master/slave/CSEL) settings
If the drive is not compatible the BIOS and OS will not recognize the drive properly.
Please note: The notebook drives dont have jumpers like on the desktop PC drives.
You cannot change the settings. You have to use the compatible drive device.

Satellite P300-1A8 cannot get factory recovery to work

Hi there,
Been having lot's of problems on this machine. It started with a nearly full C: partition which made Vista invoke a drive compression.
After that the laptop would not boot; after POST there was just a blank screen (no flashing cursor). The tap 'F8' solution from the manual would not work.
With no booting system, i tried using a Vista recovery CD. But this would not even boot, even after setting BIOS to boot from CD first, or even using the F12 boot selection screen.
I had to physically remove the hard drive from the laptop to get the CD to boot. But obviously couldn't do much after that. At this point i'm thinking that the hard drive compress utility had corrupted the boot sector.
So i connected the Hard drive to a desktop PC, Backed up all 3 partitions (1 hidden plus C: 'Vista' and D: which held the HDDRecovery files)
I then tried formatting then drive and reinstating the partitions. This is the point i'm having problems with.
I used Boot-us software to make the first partition hidden which is what it was. Hidden. Plus i left it without assigning a drive letter.
On the second partition i used windows backup to restore the C: drive, this software didn't restore all files by the way it left out important ones such as Winload.exe, which is why i had to do a factory restore.
On the third partition i restored the 'HDDRecovery' folder.
Now after editing the BCD file i was able to enter the Toshiba recovery environment from a bootable CD that i created from the hidden partition.
The problem i am now having is that factory recovery is failing because it can't find the HDDRecovery files, the error it shows up is:- 'The recovery of the operating system is impossible! Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk. There is no valid HDD Recovery environment on this computer.
I assume that by 'second drive' they mean second partition. Because when i did a test with a different partition layout, leaving out the hidden one and having just the C: 'Vista' partition and D: 'HDDRecovery' partition, i managed to get past this error. But was then stopped by a Diskpart check that looked for 3 partitions. I added a third partition to see would that would do and Diskpart completed it's check selected the second partition and erased it!! Note that partition had the HDDRecovery files on it.
I hope i have explained this well enough, apologies for the length of post.
In short i would like to get the factory recovery environment to work given that alterations have been made to the hard drive partitions.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can recover the factory settings even having Hdd recovery folder. I had the same situation like you. i wanted to install Windows Xp on my A500 and didn't make a recovery disk. So, the factory settings gone and no recovery disk was available. I didn't want to pay money for a recovery disk. I just got windows 7 copy disk, installed it with all drivers and application I need. Then, made a hdd image of my current Os with acronis true image, created a recovery zone and that's all. Now, if I want to restore Os, i just press f11 on startup, enter acronis and it restores from Hdd image. It takes me 10 minutes to wait..
