Satellite A300-1BZ with Vista - Com Port has disappeared

Hi everyone.
My first time and I'm a bit of a duffer with technical stuff, so please be gentle with me!
A300-1BZ with Vista.
A while ago I installed 'CarSoft V.83' (Engine diagnosis) from CD onto my laptop. It asked me to verify the com-port.
I looked in the device manager and in the list I saw 'com-port 4'. Ok, we'll go with that then. Everything worked fine and I was happily talking away to my car.
Yesterday I went to use it for the second time and it said there was an error with the com-port and to 'verify' the com-port.
So, I got the device manager back up and there is no mention of any com-ports in the list! It was there the last time I looked and now it's vanished!
I was at a loss what to do so, I uninstalled the CarSoft and then re-intsalled it again. Got the same error message.
Went to device manager. Still no com-port 4 in the list, or anything that relates to a com-port.
I don't know how or if I can get it back.
Please help!

Hi mate
First of all there are no com ports. The com port which you could see in device manager was an virtual port created by car software.
What to say
I recommend removing the car software from the system firstly.
Then download the CCleaner and clean the system and registry entries.
Reboot the notebook and run the CCleaner again
After that install the car software again

How to partition Satellite A300-21H with Vista?

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-21H with Vista and want to dual boot it with ubuntu linux. At the moment there are three partitions, 1.5GB vista recovery, 150gb C and 150gb E ( with HDD recovery inside it ). For my ubuntu i would like partitions / and /home ( around 150gb ). Should i delete the E partition? I have my recovery DVD's made..
Whats the best approach, I think linux only allows 4 partition's.

Of course you can delete the partition E because you have created the recovery disk.
Very good job buddy because sometimes the people forget it to burn. :(
Now you can install the factory settings every time that you want.
On Vista you can change the partition size, delete and create it. This is possible by the new Disk Management Utility:

How to install XP in Satellite A300-1BI with Vista

Hi,
Few days ago I bought a Satellite A300-1BI with Windows Vista preinstalled. I don't like this OS and I want to degrade to Windows XP and install too my Ubuntu Linux distribution but I can't install no one from them because the hard disk appears as "not connected" on the XP and Ubuntu installation men... It seems like the laptop is made ONLY for Vista, and I think is... pathetic...
Someone can help me? I tried to search information on web, forums, etc, but it seems I'm the only one with this problem.

Satellite A300-1BZ: %1 is not a valid win32 application after themes change

Having had my Satellite A300-1BZ for a couple of years now I found myself suddenly bored of the standard vista themes and began to play around with changing them. (I was after an ultimate black look with changed start buttons and menu's etc)
Anyway cut to the chase, I went wrong somewhere with VistaGlazz following the steps of replacing something like shell32.dll
As it said in the readme file I changed it to shell32.dll.bak
My computer continued to run fine until I ran a restart. After that all I got after the log on screen was a blue screen with a mouse.

Luckilly I have an iphone so managed to get onto the internet forums and find a solution which was to use a command in cmd.exe which repaired the problem.
The only thing now is that I have an extremely basic windows classic theme which when I try to change it to Vista in theme settings it gives the message:
*"the theme could not load. %1 is not a valid win32 application"*
Any help and step by step for basic user would be much appreciated! I am guessing it cant all be that bad since Windows is still running and functioning correctly!

Thank you for both your replies, I have attempted to do a system restore to various points however each time get an error message saying that the restore could not be completed? I will give it a go again later on and repost the contents of the message.
I then started digging for my recovery disks which I had to create myself when buying the laptop and have only managed to find disc one and I'm sure I remember creating two but cannot find it anywhere.
Do you know what content would be on disc two and whether I can do it with just number one disc?

Satellite A200-1vp with Vista - CD/DVD drive failure code 39

I have been burning and watching DVDs on my Satellite A200-1vp, with vista, since February, the last time I burned anything was a couple of weeks ago.
Suddenly there's a problem, no response when I load a disc and my divx player tells me no recorder found.
When I search in the device manager I get the message " windows cannot load the driver for this hardware" (code 39) " driver is corrupted or missing".
I tried uninstalling it and using the Toshiba upper/lower limit filter repair tool but on restart it still failed to install.
Should i try the Toshiba Recovery Disc and loose a lot of unbacked up programs/files, as last resort?
Would that work?
Anybody got any ideas?

You should firstly access the device manager and should remove the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Then should access the registry and should remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Reboot the notebook and check if the CD/DVD drive would work again!

Before I start a very important message: I usually don't work with pc...:-) At my work we have an IT-department for our PC's :-))
However, now I have to work privately with a PC/ notebook and I need help: I am sitting in front of a Toshiba Satellite U400-11Q with a completely newly formatted HDD and unfortunately with NO recovery CD or DVD whatsoever !!
So far I have managed to format the HDD aagain and to put a WindowsVista Home Basic (OEM Software) from my old pc onto this notebook. However, nothing works yet ( I want to get into the Internet etc.)
Therefore I now need to put on all relevant drivers as well as the original TOSHIBA drivers, right ?
How do I do this ? Which drivers to I need ? Do I need to download all relevant drivers (totally 113) one by one from the Toshiba website ?
ANY help is appreciated as I can see myself spending the whole night in front of this PC..

thanks for helping me with listing the drivers as well as giving me a recommendation on the use of Windows 7.
Re Windows 7, unfortunately I only have a "free" VISTA Home Basic at home and therefore I have used this operating system for tonight ! I want to get this PC/ machine running as well as possible as quickly as possible...just unfortunate that its a PC with the need of "thousands of drivers"...
If anyone in cyberspace is interested in reading about my HUGE problems with simply setting up a computer newly, I can at this point simply recommend to you PC fanatics:
Please do put onto the internet decent driver packages to download for somebody like me in a bulk !!! why make life so difficult ? How the hell will I get the right order of driver packages ( which you are listing) on to this PC if I have:
- no idea where to find the drivers you mention ( I have to google every single one of them)
- I have already bought a "recovery DVD from Toshiba, but which takes up to 14 days to arrive and costs about 36 EUR
- I just want to get the computer up and running properly with all licenses legally acquired !
So here I am after about 12 hours of woring on this thing as a newbe:
I have so far this evening managed to firstly install a network driver ( I also had an old VISTA resource DVD at hand) after somehow installing some "recommended network drivers" ( by this recovery DD).
This way I managed to get the wireless LAN connection up and running which is a huge success, because I can now download drivers form INTERNET directly onto the computer.
Currently there is an installation running of Windows VISTA including about 120 updates for this VISTA, so I am busy on these updates...I am nowhere close to the 50% installed mark so I probably will have to get some sleep now and continue tomorrow with you list as well as finding your drivers and installing them in the right order ! What a drag ?! Well, somehow these PC's just cost you TONS of TIME..
Anyway thanks for you help and if you can give me a hint on a shortcut, I would be very happy to hear about it.

Satellite A300D - Upgrading from Vista - "Setup.exe has stopped working"

Hello,
I am using Satellite A300D with Vista and I have been trying to upgrade to Windows 7 using the Toshiba Upgrader.
After choosing the language and proceeding with other steps, it asks me to uninstall a bunch of programs. Some are uninstalled just fine but when it comes four other programs it says "Setup.exe has stopped working" and it does not uninstall.
I have tried uninstalling them manually but I got the same message.
These programs are;
Atheros Driver Installation Program
Toshiba Hardware Setup
Toshiba Supervisor Password
Realtek High Definiton Audio Driver
As a result I cannot proceed with the upgrade.
Anyone know what the issue might be?

I am having the exact same problem. I have the toshiba satellite 350D. I am only stuck at the atheros driver installation program. As soon as it's supposed to be uninstalled I receive the " setup.exe. has stopped working" I tried uninstalling manually as well and get the same message.
I think the only fix would be to reinstall vista and then try upgrading to windows 7 again. I would like to stay away from reformatting though.
I would love an answer to this question as well!! (frustrating)

Webcam doesnt work on my Satellite A300-243 with Win7 32bit

I have A300-243 PSAG8E, after installed win7 my webcam DONT WORK.
it had been worked before with VISTA AND spype.
I upgraded the bios and updated drivers.
Webcam is not listed driver of win7 32bits of A300.
As it suggested in one of the forums i downloaded other driver from A500/ A350 ect non of them worked.
displayed on the screen:
"Webcam is either disabled or has failed. Please check your webcam settings" also Camera is not listed in Device Manager." imaging not listed.
I restarted and used cccleaner after my attemps and nothing succeded.
What else I could do.

I have an A 300. I just fixed this problem by replacing the cable. It took me 3 hours to disassemble the laptop (clean it) and put it back together again. Now it works like New! The spare part number of the cable is V000932480.
In my case:
- camera stopped suddenly for no apparent reason.
- I didn't upgrade my OS or anything
- it beep every time I closed the screen
- It didn't show on device manager (only at 45dg position but I couldn't do anything anyway)
- camera software crashed every time, and said; Camera not found, restart or install.
In my opinion, after some time, the wire got damaged just by the hinge, although I couldn't see anything broken.
If you have the same issue and you are used to open the laptop then don't look on SW issues... just change the cable. If you are not sure then just buy an external web cam. it wont solve the problem but it would be much easier.

MousePad & Keyboard dont work under Win7 on Satellite A300-1BZ

Hi,
I have just installed Windows 7 onto my laptop which is around a year old now but the mouse pad and the keyboard do not work. No lights on the caps lock keys or anything, the only way to get them to work is to press the power button so that the laptop goes into sleep and then press it again to wake it up, this then wakes up the keyboard but the mouse pad still does not work.
I can plug a USB mouse in and this works but I would prefer if the touchpad and the keyboard would just work in the first place!! However if I then restart the computer using the keyboard the touchpad then suddenly works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have upgraded my Satellite A300 to Win7 and both devices works perfectly.
Have you made upgrade or clean Win7 installation?
To be honest it is a little bit strange. I have installed WXP, Vista and now Win7 on my A300 but touchpad and keyboard worked well all the time.
Have you noticed this immediately after fist start or later?

Working with INTERRUPTS with SERIAL com port ?

I need to monitor a com port ( to use with a gsm modem siemens m20) while
doing something else
or to be interrupted when something is available on the com port.
I want to do it with interrupts in NT operating system. I could do a device
drivers to do that, but, is possible to do it in a simple way?

Intel Matrix Storage Console - Satellite A300 1BZ

I have a A300 1BZ and I've noticed that the Intel Matrix Storage Console is informing me that I have 3 SATA ports (0,1 and 2).
It informs me that ports 0 & 1 are in use (I have 2 hard disks fitted) and port 2 is not being used.
What I want to know is it possible that this little A300 can accommodate a 3rd hard disk?

I've just looked at my friends P300 the Intel software lists 4 sata ports available, one is being used for a hard disk and the other is being used for his DVD/CD drive, 2 are unused.
Maybe my 3rd port is for the option of having SATA optical drive as my current CD/DVD drive is ATA!

I phone 4 ..in settings the line with carrier (including the little blue box with the telephone symbol) has disappeared so when i insert a sim card the iphone searches for a network but comes up with no service ! has anybody got any ideas ?

i was sent a new sim card from orange to change to a new contract . when i changed the sim card i noticed the iphone was looking for a signal but could not find one . when i went into settings i noticed that the line which contains carrier and the blue icon with the telephone symbol had disappeared . any idea how i can get it back ?

Why can't I add tasks and reminders manually with iOS7? The has disappeared.

I just upgraded to iOS 7 and went to add a new task in the reminders app. I realized that the + has disappeared and I am unable to manually add a task. Is this intentional? Is this a miss, or am I missing something? This is happening both on my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2.

Same concern and request. Scrolling to the bottom of the Task list is a pain - I typically have 30 or more as part of a GTD-lite technique. Siri workaround is partly useful in the right circumstances / surroundings. And better if you are on a walk or something like that. Pls restore the +, or provide a "down arrow" to get to the bottom of the Task or Reminder list. Or put the blank "next line" at the top of the list (like Outlook has done for years). Makes me wonder sometimes whether Apple designers and execs actually use their software? Or, whether their beta tester did not come across this obvious limitation / regression. Please try harder!

Satellite Pro A200 with Vista doesn't see other XP notebook in the network

I have Satellite Pro A200 Toshiba and I have some problems with the network.
The Inernet is upp and going but I cant find the other computers in my network.
Im having 3 other computer in a network. The A200 is having Vista and the other one is having just XP-pro and XP-home.
The network by the tree standalone is working fine but the laptop is not present in the network.
I've have checked the workgroup so it the same.
Is there anyhone thats having any idea how or whats the problem?

Hi again. Ive discovered how to solve the problem! Its the Norton Internet security thats causes the problem.
Just open the program, right click at the icon down at right, click at "Norton Protection Center"
Click on the "Norton Internet Cecurity", Wirewall settings, Commin Settings, Common Rules, Configurate,
Scroll down to "Standard-Block filesharing in Windows" Mark and "Modify", Mark the option "Allow" Save and go!
If You have understand what Ive written it should be working, the thing is that I have Swedish versions of all the software
so it might be a littel hard to understand the translation that Ive done. Try to use it and look for the most likness of my poor English.
