Satellite A660 - cooling fan is running too slow

Hello,
i own TOSHIBA Satellite A660-10X
the problem is that fan is going slow (when notebook starts its going much faster than slows down). Problem is that the notebook is overheating and than it shuts down without any warning. I work on it and need to be reliable.
I've tried power management but there is only "batery optimized" or "maximum" but on maximum it is not going max for sure.
Is there any way to check Fan speed ? I tried several aplications to see Fan speed but they wont work.
And I never found Fan in BIOS.

Yes because such technical manuals are not for public. Only authorized service providers and Toshiba itself have such technical manuals. Furthermore if you disassemble the whole notebook you will lose the warranty.

I think you should take the notebook to an authorized service provider for professional cleaning. Probably the thermal grease must be renewed too.

F30 is a little bit older notebook series I think about 3 years old or older... did you clean the cooling modules in the meantime?
I think there is a lot of dust and debris inside the notebook and I think this prevents the air from circulation and therefore the fans run faster.
Try compressed air spray this should help to remove dust and debris.

Application running too slow on sun T5440 but run normal on sun M3000

I have application running on sun server T5440 4x8x1.4 GHz, 64 GB RAM, application running very slow though load average too low. when I install my application on another server SUN M3000 (One CPU 1x8x2.5GHz, 8GB RAM), application run smoothly.

When my application running, some of CPU have IDLE state = 0 and hold the CPU while another CPU have IDLE state 100. I think this is my bottleneck but I cannot find any solution for solve that.

APO - SNP Alert Macros running too slow

Hi,
We have created alert macros which run for next 27 weeks for 38000 Product-Location Combinations. They are running too slow.
We are deleting alerts externally using program /sapapo/amon_reorg and then running this macro with "ADD" . This macro slows down once it starts filling up alert table with 100,000 records. What are the best practices for writing the macro so that it runs fast ?.

Is it necessary to write all the alerts? What I mean is, do you filter the results when you view them through the Alert Monitor?
If your alert profile has a minimum threshold set for an alert type, then you can read this threshold in the macro and only write alerts that fall below the threshold.
e.g.
Step: Get Threshold Values : ( 1 Iterations :Initial;Initial )
    Action Box: Get Threshold Value
      LAYOUTVARIABLE_SET( 'Alert_Thresh' ;
      ALERT_PROFILE_THRESH( SDP_ALERT_PROFILE' ; '4100' ; 'I' ) )
Where SDP_ALERT_PROFILE is the profile that contain sthe minimum threshold you want to use and 4100 is the alert type. The I is for information, can use either W for Warning or E for Error as well.
Then use the variable Alert_Thresh to check if your value falls below this, only then write the alert.

FCP X running too slow

I am experiencing FCP running too slow, finding it hard to edit footage.

You are not the first to see this slow down.. But often by deleting render files can solve this slow down or restart the computer. I know this should not be so, but untill Apple make some fixes there is little to ad. You are actually doing everything right. And I assume you are using better formance not high quality.

Cooling fans constantly run @ full speed after replacing the upper CPU??

After replacing the upper CPU on a Power Mac G5 (June 2004), Dual 1.8Ghz PowerPC, model M9454LL/A, all the cooling fans constantly run at full speed. All other operations are normal.
I've read, "...after replacing or switching CPU locations the Logic Board doesn't properly recognize the CPU's in their new location and a "Thermal Calibration" is needed". Could a "Thermal Calibration" possibly correct the constant full fan speed issue?

The Apple Service Diagnostic disc (ASD) of the proper version for your machine.
Call an authorized Apple service provider and arrange a calibration, as the disc is not readily available to individuals.

Satellite A660 - 3D DVD software runs out of date or is secretly altered

Whats going on; why do I get lynched to pay an additional $59 for software to make my Satellite 3D work?
Ok.
This probably sounds nuts; but my Toshiba Blu-Ray DVD software seems to have a DVD/Blu-ray prevention program in it. Preventing 3D and smaller issues.
It has been out of whack since I updated the software on the Toshiba site and when I updated the nVidia GTS 350M drivers.
That may be co-incidental to the problems which began in previous month/s; as I don`t always play discs on this laptop; so pinning a date when it went pear-shaped is harder.
But, after going through a nightmare (of not working on DVD or Blu-Ray on half my discs for months now); I installed the latest TRIAL ($59) Corel WinDVD 11 Pro player and everything (including 3D) works perfect again. But for 30 days only; until/unless I`m robbed of $59 additional that is.
The problem is/was;-
3D only worked on half of my Blu-Ray 3D discs using pre-installed (and later updated) Toshiba COREL WinDVD media PLAYER. Sometimes it only played 3D side by side; 2 images. No 3D. Some Blu-Ray 3D discs were fine ODDLY. Region code not an issue.
Toshiba DVD 3D player/upconvertor program was the worst (not the SD version, I dont use).
Toshiba (HD) 3D player would not recognise half of my Blu-ray 3D laptop disc drive content. "DVD drive not recognised" error message.
Toshiba DVD player itself would not upconvert any normal DVD to 3D.
Toshiba DVD player would only play NORMAL 2D when running upconvert (no 3D).
Toshiba DVD player would only play HALF-SPEED DVD when upconvert was disabled. When trying to play a DVD in normal 2D mode.
All settings were tried and altered to fix the problem around a thousand times.
Software uninstalled and re-booted and re-installed a dozen times each.
I also had to un-install the software and re-boot and re-install the following;-
nVidia graphics driver (from nVidia sites own 295.73 and re-install Update to the `older` nVidia Toshiba 260.51 driver).
I used to be able to upconvert DVDs to 3D using this laptop; so it did work many months ago; but now that has all stopped for months now.
Its a pain as I have un-installed everything and re-installed all the relevant software from the Toshiba home page; but no solution for the problem without getting mugged an extra $59.
I hate computers for the ten-thousandth time.
1 minute Ramble:-
Its the last Microsoft product I will ever buy (Windows Ultimate rubbish [had to buy a new A3 color lazer printer as no Win 7 drivers for my existing laser printer]).
SAMSUNG (3D internet TV) products from now on. No computers for ten years. Until the rats get it right and stop experimenting on my wallet. $10,000 on PC products in the past 5 years and still being able to do simple things like watch a 3D movie is a hit and miss affair.
I`m rambling....because a hundred hours reading on how to get it working again has scrambled my head.

Toshiba Corel WinDVD 3D player (doesn't cut the mustard) Version 10.0.5.822
The Nvidia graphics always works fine on the test background page; which makes me think software; but all the relavant software has been updated. Re-installed and re-tried a hundred times with different settings.
I thought the discs were the problem. But 50 DVDs not working in 3D up-converting, or faulty all by themselves? And half of my 3D Blu-Ray collection?
I wondered if these these problems are deeper than this one system. Whether there was a systemic problem somewhere (besides blaming the buyer end-user).
Toshiba assist line in one call was a guy who knew far less than me and had to ask someone advice for every single part of the call. 2 hours to tell me to re-install the software in a long, slow, bit-by-bit way, eventually. We done everything they can do to help. Now they seem to blame the discs and don`t have any answer.
Microsoft x64 Ultimate says its roger all to do with them on their helpline/e-mail assist.
I tried nVidia to no avail;
Any ideas; do I bite the bullet and everyone eventually be forced bit by bit to pay for $59 software to get the thing working.

You wrote really long story :) anyway this is an user to user community Im not sure if I could clarify all these issue for you but I would try to share my knowledge with you.
But firstly it would be really interesting to know what Satellite A660-xxx do you have exactly?
You said that you have installed the Win 7 ultimate.
According to the Toshiba page the notebook was preinstalled with Windows Home Premium. The preinstalled WinDVD was a full version (not trial) and you have not to pay for this software. In my case I have not to pay for any software (except MS Office :) )

So it seems that you dont use the preinstalled Win DVD but you have installed other version which was not preinstalledso you have to purchase such version if you want to use a full version of any software which is not part of Toshiba image.

HP Spectre XT 13-2005tu - Cooling Fan Countiniously Running At Top Speed From Start Up

Ok, Here's a puzzler if anyone can help. HP Spectre XT 13-2005tui7-3517U @ 1.90Ghz4.00 GB Ram256 SSD HD Has been a great laptop, very happy with it, small light powerful, etc, good battery life, everything I needed as student and as someone who travels a lot for work. Towards the end of 2014 the hinges on the screen gave out. Outside of the warranty period HP were kind enough to fix it, however this didnt get completed until approximately Feb 2015 - when I returned from travelling. At the time they gave it a full service - cleaned it up, updated bios, replaced fan. The cooling fan was replaced as they claimed it was noisy, but to be honest I had never noticed it. As soon as I took it home, the fan went crazy. From the moment the power button was pressed it would run flat out and non-stop. Sometime it would change from flat out to nothing every two seconds for 5 minutes - I took a video of this at the time. I had planned to take it back to the service centre but after a few hours it returned to normal. There were no problems for a while, every now and again it would startup and run flat out constantly for an hour or so but would always go back to normal. A couple of days ago it started this again but just won't stop. The moment the button is pressed it is running flat out until the moment it goes to sleep or is turned off. It has also started with the occasinoal intermittent 'running flat out, then slowing down then flat out then slowing down' continiously over about 5 mins (I took a small video of this as well - https://youtu.be/P2ybdunCZf8). I have: - Updated anything and everything. - Formatted the pc and reinstalled windows. - Rolled back and reinstalled the bios. - Made sure the bios setting to constantly run the fan was off. - Checked that the fan was sqeaky clean. - Installed and monitored temps with HW Monitor - fans run flat out at any CPU temp. - Ran HP system diagnostics that show no errors. - Tried hard resets. - Also checked the CPU usage - fan runs at high speed whether 5% or 95% is being used. - Tried different power settings and changing the CPU Cooling policy within the power settings. I am out of ideas. I have a feeling it might be a hardware fault and that I'm doomed but I am keen to know if anyone else has any thoughts, and espeically if there is anything HP can do or recommend. Hi , Thank you for your query. I understand that you had the display replaced by HP as it quit due to a hinge issue. When you got it back after they had done full service - cleaned it up, updated bios, replaced fan. The cooling fan was replaced as they claimed it was noisy, but to be honest you had never noticed it. As soon as you took it home and powered it on the fan went crazy,running at full speed non stop. The speed sometimes would change from full to nothing every 2-5 minutes. After a few hours it seemed to settle down and work normally.Occasionally the issue would return for a hour but then return to normal.A couple of days ago the issue returned but now remains constant. Java web start application runs too slow...

I am new to Java Web Start. I have created a java web start application and when i enable web start from local Execution, then it works perfectly well. But when i upload it on server and then download the application, then it is too too slow...i mean it takes minutes to get the output on clicking some button....my jnlp file is as under:

Check your web server's access logs to see how many requests web start is sending for each jar. After you've loaded the application the first time, for each subsequent launch, if you've got everything configured right, you should only see requests for the JNLP file and maybe some gifs because web start should load everything else out of the cache (if you're using the version-based download protocol). Or if you're using the basic download protocol, then you might see requests for each jar file, but even in this case, if your web server is prepared to evaluate the last-updated attribute for each jar request and for jars that have not changed, respond with no actual payload and a header value of Not-Modified, then that should run almost as fast.
You might also want to consider changing the "check" attribute of the "update" element from "always" to "background" for a couple of reasons. It should allow your app to start sooner (but this means that you might have to launch once or twice after an update is applied to the web server before the update shows up on the workstation). Also, my impression is that "always" is broken and prevents web start from ever checking to see if your jnlp file has been updated if you launch your app from a web start shortcut - launching from a browser is less likely to have this problem, depending on how often your browser is configured to check for updated resources.

Macbook air running too slow

My Macbook air is runnning too slow. I thought it was my internet service at home, but it is everywhere. Can someone help me clean out old or unneeded files? Thanks!

I wonder if there's some online activity going on (as it used to run OK) which is hogging CPU / memory?
If you open Activity Monitor and click on the "percentage" field it will order the processes so you can see which is taking up most.
You could try disconnecting from the internet to see if that makes a big improvement... if it does, maybe something wrong with a site you're visiting?

M30X-125 cooling fan is running very often if USB device is connected

Hello,
I have used USB devices with my M30X-125 for a few months and noticed that as soon as I connect a USB mouse or printer with external power supply the fan cooling works very often.With no USB device the fan cooling is very "quiet".
I updated the BIOS with the last 1.90 release and changed parameters (reduce processor speed) of the Power Management Utility.No effect on this fan cooling issue.
Can you help me please to limit fan cooling work with USB device connected?

I agree with you but I believe that it is not easy to make a optimum there. If you check other notebooks from different producers the cooling vents are not so quiet. Like you know the units are designed to be small and a lot of hardware is placed at small place. The warmness is very high especially if the CPU activity is high and the units must be cooled before the hardware can be damaged.
I have tested cooling method intensively with my unit (Tecra M1) and if the cooling method and CPU activity is set to lower level the unit doesnt run like I want. Because of that I can live with sporadically running cooling fan but the performance is fantastic and all running processes flow smoothly.

NEW 3 week old HP Pavilion dv6, cooling fan always running

Hi the cooling fan in this laptop always seems to be running fast enough to be irritating, it was like this out of the box, other laptops I have had usually only run the fan during periods of heavy CPU usage but this one is running fast all the time. Any ideas, and dust in the vents is not the problem, BIOS ?

I also have the same problem. 8 month old HP Pavillion DV6. Bios updated and air vents cleaned. Fan runs constantly even without any load on pc'n.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures and fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even then, the fan seems to run almost constantly, plus the standard setting for Bios is to have fan runing constantly enabled. Would be greatful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searcing for solutions on the Web.
