Satellite L10-232: Black screen after the lid closing.

hello
I've moved my notebook (satellite L10-232) to another room, it wasn't shutdown (just closed it). When I opened it there was nothing on the screen and the accu isn't empty (processor is still doing some things). Does anyone know how I can solve this problem?
Thanks

Easy ..
Powermanagement is the weakest and less stable functionality on any laptop. (especially with faulty batteries).
NEVER try to count on standby mode etc. It will work 999 time and the 1000 time it don't.
Now you ended with a hung laptop.
The ways to proceed :
1. the gentle way :
-push the power button ,and keep your finger on it for 10 seconds. (5 is enough ,10 to be sure)
-remove your battery
-plugin powercable
-push the powerbutton
2. the less gentle way :
-remove the power cable
-remove the battery
-wait for 24 hours
-insert the power cable
-push the power button
3. the hard way : ENSURE YOUR HARDDRIVE IS NOT PASSWORD PROTECTED,ELSE YOU LOOSE YOUR DATA.
try to figure out hat is the key startup sequence in order to reset the BIOS at boot. (it should be described in your manual somewhere)
4. the hardest way : !!!! ONLY BY A PROFESSIONAL !!!!
ENSURE YOUR HARDDRIVE IS NOT PASSWORD PROTECTED,ELSE YOU LOOSE YOUR DATA.
The laptop has to be opened and all battery should be removed. All capacitors should be emptied (by letting laptop without any batteries for 72h) . Then power up
the laptop.
Please note that I cannot be held responsable for any damage or data loss by any circumstances.

  • Can't boot my T500 anymore... just getting to a black screen after the XP logo

I have a big problem with my Lenovo T500. Never had any problems before. Then yesterday, I could not open OpenOffice anymore, neither convert to pdf from an already open OpenOffice document. I got error messages saying the programmes can't be openend. After trying to re-install Adobe Reader failed, I simply wanted to restart the computer, seeing if that oculd help. And now the big problems started...
Re-booting was not possible. For 20 seconds, it seemed normal. But directly after the Windows XP logo (using
Windows XP Professional 1), the screen went black and that was it. I see the mouse cursor and can move it, but that's it.
After waiting some time, I turned the laptop off with the power button. And restarted it. This time getting to the screen where I could choose "safe mode" or normal startup, because the computer had been shut down improperly. First I tried normal mode, which lead to the same black page. Then I did the same again and tried "safe mode", which didn't work either - I just got the black screen with the "safe mode" notifier in every corner.
What I tried then was the ThinkVantage button directly when starting the computer. Which lead me to the "rescue and recovery" menu where I could choose what to do: Complete recovery, losing personal files (it's about music, pictures, text documents for me) or quick recovery without losing files. Also there was the option of saving files before through USB. This is what I tried first. I marked 50GB of files and wanted to transfer them. Problem: Every external harddrive or USB stick I connected was not identified. So this failed.
I chose to go with "quick recovery" first then. This took about 20mins. When it was done there was an automatic re-start which unfortunately got stuck at the black screen again...
3 more re-starts using the power button did not bring anything either. The ThinkVantage button does not let me access the rescue and recovery menu anymore. It just says something like "checking the system" and then there is an automatic re-boot, which ends up at the black page.
I am mighty scared now that I lost my computer and the data on it (I have backups for most things, but still).
Does anyone know anything that could be done now? I do not have XP or anything, by the way. I bought this computer used a year ago and got it complete with XP installed (although I do have the product key). The warranty from the place expired 5 days ago and the place is in Germany, but I live in Sweden. They told me they can't help me but I should contact a local repair place.
If anyone has an idea about what the problem could be (virus??) and maybe some help, I would be VERY VERY thankful.

Maybe I should add that I probably didn't do the best thing with anti virus programs. I used Microsft Security Essentials, which was installed when I bought the computer.
When downloading some program (not sure whether it was Acrobat Reader), I was asked to get McAfee. Kind of weird, I had said no. But McAfee somehow checked my computer and told me my MP4 player contained a trojan. That was 5 days ago. Security Essentials couldn't find it, even scanning the MP4 player directly. I guess I should have switched right away and to get McAfee to remove the thing? Maybe this is what caused all the trouble...

  • Satellite 'Won't Wake' Up With the Lid Closed

This may not be a Toshiba problem per se since it has been reported for other brands as well.
I want to run backups overnight. This requires my backup programs to 'wake' the computer from sleep. This works perfectly well for my desktop. It does not work for my laptop if the lid is down: the laptop does not wake, so backups do not run
    Some details:
    Model L955-S5370, Windows 8, UEFI
Power settings for a closed lid, whether on-battery or off battery, are: Sleep (not hibernate)
Makes no difference whether the power options are to sleep or not to sleep when the lid closes; in neither case does the computer wake up.
When the laptop is set to not sleep when the lid is closed, the laptop eventually goes to sleep in accordance with my general sleep settings ('sleep after 30 minutes')
The same issue has been reported in the user forums for other brands, and in those instances the problem was neither obvious or easy to diagnose. The problem seems to be in the interface between the lid closing mechanism and the operating system. Dell says they'll include a resolution in a BIOS update.
    Can Toshiba help with this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No, you're not dense. Lacking in appreciation of subtle humor, perhaps.
"Allow wake timers" was disabled. When I changed the setting to "Enabled" my backup ran. So I am   .
That said, I have read in other OEM forums that running scheduled tasks with the lid down can be a problem. Something to with the interface between the lid (hardware) and the operating system. Apparently, I don't have that problem.

  • Satellite L450 (PSLY0E) - black screen after BIOS update

It seems like I have "bricked" my laptop during a bios utdate gone bad...black screen, as suspected :o /
The laptop is a Toshiba satellite L450 (PSLY0E)
The new bios image is named "bwaa150a.rom"
Anyone knows if it is possible to recover the bios from flashdrive or floppy, using some sort of recovery toolfrom inside the bios chip? ...or something?
Anyone knows who is the manifacturer of this bios?
If I have to rename the bios image during a recovery, what shoult it be named?

Well, I've just brought my bios back to life... :)))
I used the "wincrisis" available from wincrisis.1.0.0.4
Basically I followed the instructions in the download above to create a recovery usb-flash.
Then downloaded the correct bios, renamed the "rom-file" to "BIOS.WPH", and copied it to the usb-flash.
Then I disconnected both the battery and the power connection cable on the bricked laptop.
While pushing down the "F-key" on the keyboard, I reconnected the power cable and powered on with the power button, holding down the "F-key" *all the way till the laptop powered down by itself* after 2-3 minuets.
Then, powered up the laptop normally...voil, running normally, with the newest bios... :)))

  • Black screen after the installation of the graphics driver

    Hello,
    - Recently I bought a 'GT 610' graphics card to replace the old broken one,
    - after the assembly one short beep was audible during system reboot (=OK),
    - a default windows graphics driver was installed by Windows Vista,
    - screen resolution manually set at native screen resolution (1280 x 1024),
    - (youtube movies as well as flash player worked fine),
    - the installation of the (most recent) nVidia driver went smoothly (the old driver on CD did not!),
    - after the nVidia driver installation the system restarted itself to activate the driver.
    So far so good.
    - Unfortunately after rebooting the screen got black and remained black,
    - no log-in screen, only the typical Windows start-up screen with the green progression bars was temporarily visible,
    - in safe mode I had to disable the nVidia driver to restart Windows in normal mode.
    - At this moment I can use my computer for desktop application like MS Office, email or internet browsing, not for video editing or gaming.
Question: How to enable the nVidia driver to use the graphics card's full capacity?
    Thanks.

    - Yes, the GT610 is a genuine MSI product bought in the local computer store.
    - I suppose my board (Vendor = Micro-Star International Co., Ltd --> also MSI) is an OEM product. I don't have any hard evidence, but on the internet I've found some independent threads claiming the MS-7318 is an OEM product indeed.
    - Both VGA cards (nVidia GeForce 6700XL/7650GS based) are Medion products. They have their own Medion drivers. Nevertheless in the past latest downloaded nVidia drivers seemed to work fine when installing them on these Medion PC's.
    - MS Windows XP SP2 on the provided recovery DVD is a Medion OEM product for sure.
    - My Computer model = Medion Akoya MD 8818
    - Test computer = Medion Akoya MD 8818 (same board, same PSU, same graphics card, same ...) --> But a few months ago, the original graphics card of this test PC also crashed and had to be replaced!! Weak cards these 7650GS. So, the 6700XL is a replacement for the original Medion GeForce 7650 GS in the test PC. Fortunately I could use the graphics card (6700XL) of a 1 year older Medion Akoya MD 8800 PC. This card works fine.

  • ZEN - black screen after the ZEN-L

    Hello!
First; I'm german so my english isn't very well.
    So, now to my problem:
I bought a month ago a zen mp3-player (ZEN 4GB). Now I wanted to start it and put some video on it, but the startup stoped after the animated "ZEN"-Logo. I must say its very bad not to have ANY help for this player, neither for my problem nor for any other one. All Zen Players are supported excluding the normal one. You can't call this support! But this doesn't matter now, I would be very pleased if someone could help me. And please don't common with answers like "check the batterie" oder something like this! I tried this for nearly 2 hours. I wont take much time and i gonna through my player on the wall :/ ^^
It would be very nice if you could help me on starting the player in the recovery mode! All tutorials i found were for the other models, e.g. zen vision etc, but not for the original. Thank you right now,
    Jonathan
EDIT: I tried already to update the firmeware, the player isn't also recogniced by my pc and the recover software.

  • Satellite L40-14H - Black screen after updating BIOS

    Hello!
I have Satellite L40-14H (PSL48E) notebook. I have installed WindowsXP, it worked ok, except the digital keyboard was turned on permanently so I couldn't type a couple of symbols. Than I decided to install special BIOS for WinXP, that have downloaded from Toshiba web-site. The PSL48x model is in support list. Alter flashing from Windows and rebooting, I entered to BIOS to see what changed. I've seen nothing new, so I exit the BOIS and reboot again.
Since that moment, the notebook turns on, but the screen doesn't, it is black :-(((
Please help me, how can I back it to live?
    Thanks, Eugene.

Hi, i have exactly the same problem. I have tried everything but with no success. Am really getting annoyed with this as the computer is only 10 months old and i can see that there are several people on these forums who have similar problems. Dont mean to sound negative but it dosent make me want to choose a Toshiba again in the future. Will try the customer support tomorrow but not really expecting much.

  • Black screen after the last virsion!!

    Hi..
After I downloaded the last update, my iphone5 didn't work!! it shows me a black secreen with itunes, so I connected my iphone with itunes but nothing is change.
Can you help me with my problem as fast as you can
    Thank you

    Hello sundusmoh,
It sounds like you are seeing an image indicating that you need to connect the phone to iTunes, and when you connect it the issue persists. From what you are describing it seems like the device is in recovery mode, so I would restore it per the information in the following article:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Satellite P200-P100 - Black screen after a Windows 7 update

    Hi,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite P200-P100 running Windows 7.
A few weeks ago, after a Windows 7 Update, my monitor would not show any image, it would light up, but still no image. Not even the BIOS it would load.
I fixed it by using System Restore using another monitor. The same happened again today, I must have ran the same update, but this time a system restore did not solve it, neither did reinstalling Win 7.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Spre3

    Hi
You mean you cannot see anything on the internal nor the external monitor even switching the display output pressing the FN + F5 buttons???
Hmm. in my personal opinion this has nothing to do with the Win 7 update
I mean the Win 7 OS update/installation should not affect the BIOS and you should be able to access the BIOS even if no operating system would be installed on the HDD!!!
So I assume the whole issue could be related to the motherboard issue or some parts placed on motherboard
    Did you try this?
Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor
Then wait a little bit (1hour) and then connect both parts again.
Then try to power up the unit
If this will not help then the RAM modules should be checked.

    >and i mean clear cmos in doing a short in something near to ram or change jumber ... like Desktop clear cmos
This is not possible for notebook boards
    >lol , i send it to a specialist one .... tell me my current BIOS ChIP got damage by flashing it and interrupted flashing procedure ...... is that true???
Could be possible that the ROM module is damaged but in most cases the usage of BIOS crisis disk could solve this issue and as far as I know the Toshiba authorized service provider would be able to do that.

  • Toshiba Satellite L755-S5216 Black Screen after failed bios update

There was a Toshiba BIOS update that went awry and now the computer won't turn on. I can hear the fans and see the lights, but all there is is a blank screen.

I'm not a tech support agent, but there are a couple things I would suggest doing.
While the laptop is off and unplugged, remove the battery, hold the power button for 10 seconds, restore the battery, and try the laptop again. If that doesn't work, try booting on only AC power without a battery.
If you still don't have any luck, give support a call at (800) 457-7777.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite M70 - Black screen after recovery installation

So far what I have done is put in the Product Recovery DVD-ROM. Then when restarting my computer I was prompted to restore my computer to the factory defaults and said. After it went through that process it told me to remove the disc so I did. Now all it does is reach a black screen after the Toshiba screen that gives me the options to f2 for setup and f12 for options.
I do not know what to do now to make my laptop work again. Please help.

Satellite M70 is old notebook model and I would like to know do you use recovery disc for the first time. I had Satellite M70-159 long time ago and have installed recovery image many times.
Which installations mode you have used: standard mode or expert mode?
    Try to install it again.
As Xardas wrote try to obtain Microsoft installation disc and check if everything works well.

  • [Solved] Amilo XI 2550 - Black screen after fresh install

    Dear archlinux users,
I have been reading the archlinux wiki and forums since I started using arch several years ago. It was always possible to solve the problems I ran into by consulting these webpages, therefore a big thanks to the community for the provided help.
Two weeks ago I installed arch on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo XI 2550. The first problem I ran into was that booting the live-cd resulted in a black screen and I could not even start with installing arch. This problem was solved with the kernel parameter 'nomodeset'.
The first boot of the freshly installed arch also resulted in a black screen after the GRUB menu which was perfectly displayed. After some searching (here and here and ...) I plugged in an external monitor and it showed the login screen. I then installed KDE because I thaught the problem might not show up with X and KDE running. After the login to KDE I realized that the brightness of the laptop display is nearly black but not totally. It seems as if the brightness is at a very low level, but brightness cannot be controlled with the Fn+F8 or Fn+F9 commands. But I see a OSD that indicates that the controls are used but without effect. So at the moment it is only possible to work on the laptop with another display connected to it.
    Maybe of use:
    ls /sys/class/backlight/
    acpi_video0

    echo 1 > /sys/class/backlight/radeon_bl0/bl_power
Nothing of the above was improving the situation.
Your help on the problem would be highly appreciated.

    Hello Trilby,
    thanks for the reply.
Trilby wrote:If nomodeset worked with the installation medium, why haven't you tried that for the same problem on your installed system?
The kernel parameter 'nomodeset' results in a working display but without X support, due to the fact that with 'nomodeset' there is no KMS support and therefore no X. But nevertheless I tried it and as expected X did not start.
Trilby wrote:Could you also post information about your graphics card and what drivers you've installed.
The graphics card is a Radeon HD 2700 and according to the above dmesg log it is recognized as RV 630. The radeon module is loaded via /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and xf86-video-ati (1:7.5.0-1) is installed.
I hope the provided information is what you asked for, thanks for your help.
