Satellite L850-P13 - no backlight after replacing panel

Hi, I have cracked panel. Sister felt on cauch and sit on screen while computer laying on couch fully opened lid and machine was working. Cristal leaked under the glas layer. His soul left to heaven. Sister is OK.
Brief inspection found that NB is still alive (not a screen) , connected to external vga panel everything was working OK.
New panel was ordered. After reinstalation got no backlite. Screen is dark, but it is posible to see the content on screen if backlighted with torch or lamp. It is working, just all is on "dark side".
First , I can't get POST while external screen is connected. It shows the picture when windows already starting.
For this reason I dare not to upgrade BIOS which is asked by Toshiba control center or what else is called that thing running on system. It also asked for video driver update as well what I did , but no difference.
At the Computer- Hardware list, at the Display, I can see two devices. Both are recognised as Generic Display. Other one should be external screen.
Is this normal? I mean, does at least LCd panell should be recognised as something else then "generic"?
Before replacement panel was ordered it happens to have another broken L750 (this one was washed with water while ON) . Repair service send it back as "total damaged".
I tried to put panel from this one in hope that will work and it did.
Panels were perfect matched (type and model). And it did worked. Brightness was not the best, and there were some distorsion at screen picture and flickerings .
So it was not useful for repairment. I did switch PC off and on couple of times.
Every time the brightnes drop down. Finally I gave up on trying and order/wait for new panel.
When new one arrived got no backlight at all as mentioned above.
I wish to know how to get external screen to show POST from the very begining how I would be able to enter BIOS or BIOS update utillity?
Any other idea what may cause missing backlight having in mind described behavior of backlight during test with panel from "water treated" notebook?

Yes exactly. Your reasons are correct. Unfortunately I just found out third one.
But first:
1. New display baklights are working. It is tested. I perfom the test.
2. New display has exactly same model and suffix so it should be right
Now, according my measurement found VLED voltage is 3.5V .
According display's manufacturer spec this voltage should be from 7 to 21Volts, typically 12V. When main voltage is so low, then LED_EN i PWM signals are less important in this moment.
At the main board found smd element (probably resistor) faulty.
It is visible cracked line over the element.
It was necessary to use really strong magnifying glass to see that.
Resistor is in close proximity to the LCD connector and sits on "fat" pcb line.
I am pretty much sure that this is the right cause.
I doubt that will find authorized service nearby, which is capable to identify smd piece and solder new one.
However, I am able to solder new piece, just have no glue about the value.

  • Satellite L850 - after 1 year of usage battery runs out quickly

Hi, through programs such as care or BatteryBar battery battery I see a Toshiba Satellite L850 *battery wear from 48%* currently. I notice that playing a game the battery runs out quickly, as the warm up by a lot, and often descalibra and behaves erratically.
The laptop is a year old. Is it normal for the battery to wear so much in so little time?
Would you accept a guarantee or battery replacement can claim wear caused by misuse?
    http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/6976/4f7k.jpg

First of all you have to know that battery working time depends on the notebook usage.
Running heavy performance applications like a game would discharge the battery much quickly. Why? Because parts like GPU and CPU and cooling modules run at highest performance and this needs power.
Also using the notebook with highest display brightness would discharge the battery faster.
You should also know that every battery would start to loose own performance after about 500 charging cycles. This is nothing unusual and will happen to all batteries.
To avoid or to slow down this process, its recommended to calibrate the battery from time to time.
Calibrating means charging and discharging the battery fully.
Charge the battery until it would be fully charged, then disconnect the AC adaptor and keep the battery discharging until its fully empty. Repeat this procedure 2-3 times in the row.

  • Satellite L850 starts automatically opening display panel

    Hi everyone!
I have a problem with Toshiba System Settings program.
I have to start with a short explanation:
I have polish version of Win 8.1, upgraded from win 8.
I can't find the option that could make my Satellite L850 to don't turn on automatically after I raise it's cover.
    It's really annoying.
In the control panel (I suppose that's how it's called in english versions of windows) in the power management section there isn't such option.
There's only "choose the result of closing the cover" and i have there "shut the computer".
I have also the fast starting system option enabled.
In the BIOS "Panel Open - Power On" is DISABLED.
I remeber that there similliar option in Toshiba System Settings and before returning the system I solved this problem in that way. But there's a problem with access to Toshiba System Setting.
When I try to run it, I receive the notification "Prba sprawdzenia has?a administratora zako?czy?a si? niepowodzeniem", what means "The try to check the administrator password ends with failure" and there's only OK button.
Does anybody know how to fix the Toshiba System Settings? Reinstallation doesn't work.
Thank You for any idea and I'm sorry for my bad english. I'm not sure also if I wrote it in the right place. Didn't know which forum should I choose: Toshiba Tools & Utilities, like it's a problem with the System Settings or the forum associated to my notebook's model.

I guess you are talking about the Panel Open - Power On" feature
    https://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ1A037V0000R01.htm
You said that you upgraded the system from Win8 to Win 8.1.
Well, after such system upgrade its necessary to upgrade the Toshiba tools and utilities to Win 8.1 version too because the Win 8 software isnt fully compatible with the Win 8.1 system.
I guess the Toshiba software was not updated and this is the reason why the Toshiba System Settings program does not work properly.

  • Satellite L850-1PD increased sharpness disapear after disconecting AC adaptor

    Hello everybody.
I got a problem with my Satellite L850.
When my laptop is running, it has an increased sharpness, and after pulling-out and reinsert power plug the sharpness become normal. What can be a problem
p.s. reinstalled newest amd drivers didnt help.
    Any tips or suggestions please?

What do you mean exactly by increased sharpness?
Did you notice this issue while booting up the unit; for example within the BIOS?
Does it appear using battery power only?
Is the same problem visible on external monitor?
Im not quite sure but from my point of few if everything appears properly on the external monitor, then the graphic card driver as well as the graphic card isnt the problem
    Feedback would be appreciated!

  • Satellite L850 - external 1080p display problems

I had been running my Satellite L850 laptop via HDMI to an external monitor without problem for many months.
A couple of weeks ago I attempted to update the catalyst driver and have had problems ever since.
Basically now when I select 1080p mode via the catalyst control panel it makes the screen flash and have vertical lines.
Occasionally it will work for a short period, even up to an entire day and than it will randomly start again. I can play a game in 1080p mode and it will be totally random, sometimes allowing me to play for hours without having the black screen flashes whilst other times it will flash constantly and the only way to resolve is to either restart or pull out the HDMI cable and plug back in and cross your fingers you have enough time to reopen catalyst and change to 720P which is always stable.
    I have tried:
    1. Using the AMD Catalyst removal tool and reinstalling via the original factory default Toshiba catalyst drivers
    2. Using System Restore to go back before I made the changes
    3. Using the AMD Catalyst removal tool and updating to the newest version via AMD website.
    4. Reinstalling my chipset drivers along with #1
    5. Tried a different monitor (still happens)
On a side note every time I use the removal tool it removes my USB drivers also and I have to reinstall.
The current graphics driver is AMD Radeon HD 7670M and I have also tried the solution on the tech support forum here http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/item/781.
I have run out of options other than a complete format and reinstall which I want to avoid if possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Probably your problem has nothing to do with the picture issue mentioned in the technical document posted by MisterX.
I could read in your first post above, that this issue appeared exactly after the driver update.
    > A couple of weeks ago I attempted to update the catalyst driver and have had problems ever since.
Are you 100% sure that the display driver update has caused this problem?
You have also mentioned that this issue does not appear always but sporadically and every once in a while.
From my point of few there are some open questions:
    1) Is it really an graphic card driver problem or maybe an GPU issue?
If the issue did not appear in the past (before the GPU driver update) then yes: it could be related to the driver.
    2) The notebook support also an Intel HD graphic card (its part of the Intel CPU)
I think you should check if the same issue would appear using the Intel GPU.
Try to uninstall the AMD driver (from device manager as well as from programs & features are within the control panel) and test it using Intel GPU only.
    3) Last but not least test the notebooks video output with fresh recovered notebook. After the recovery the graphic card driver should be the same which you have used before the update.

  • Satellite L850-161 won't boot from recovery disk

When I got the laptop in 2012 I created 4 recovery disks but since then i've had my HDD replaced in my SATELLITE L850-161 but it has the recovery partition with nothing in it and the laptop won't boot from disk either so I can't format it but really need to, any suggestions??

If you have 4 recovery discs be sure you start installation with disc number 1. After HDD exchange you should be able to use created recovery discs for recovery image installation.
Does some other bootable disc starts properly?
To be honest I dont understand how new HDDD can contain recovery partition that will be created if recovery image installation works.
Problem is that in such situation you dont have many options. In worst case you can order original recovery disc for your machine.

  • Incorrect processor drivers updated for Satellite L850-138 (PKSDLE)

Today i'm trying to update my processor drivers (2nd generation Intel i5 processor, i5-2450m), but updated drivers for this model AREN'T CORRECT, they're for 3rd generation Intel processors with Intel HD Graphics devices. It's impossible to update drivers of this model!
Repeat: Incorrect display drivers for intel processor with model Toshiba Satellite L850-138!!
It's very important to be solved soon!

    > Intel's setup was launched directly but it said my computer doesn't is compatible hardware
This is exactly what I meant you will not be able to install the driver by executing the exe file!
The driver need to be installed via device manager:
    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. In the upper left portion of the Control Panel dialog, click on the words "Classic View" to cause Control Panel to switch to Classic View mode.
    3. Double-click the Personalization icon, and - after the Personalization dialog appears - double-click the Display Settings option.
    4. Click the Advanced Settings button at the Display Settings dialog.
    5. At the Adapter tab of the Advanced Settings dialog, write down the exact name of the adapter type that is currently in use. This may be important in case you ever want to switch back to that driver.
    6. After jotting down the name of the existing adapter type, click Properties. If Windows asks for permission, click Continue.
    7. Click the Driver tab, and click the Update Driver button.
    8. Windows will ask whether you want to search automatically or browse for driver software. Choose the "Browse my computer for driver software" option.
    9. At the next dialog that appears, click the "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" option.
    10. A list of video drivers will appear, and you should scroll down and select Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. Click Next after making the selection.
    11. Once Windows reports that it has successfully updated your driver software, you can click either Close and/or Ok as many times as you need to close all open Control Panel dialogs. If, during this process, Windows asks whether you want to restart your computer for the changes to take effect, click Yes.

  • WiFi doesen't work on my new Satellite L850-13Q

I just bought an Satellite L850-13Q and my WiFi doesen't work. Win 7 64bit and I installed the Atheros driver for this system but it tell There are no aviable connection, but my old computer find a lots of them.
I turn it on with the FN+F12 keys, and the orange led is light. What can I do?

    Hi
Did you mean the right indicator?
There are three LEDs in the front of the notebook.
The last one (the first from right) is an WLan indicator.
If this is ON, then the WLan should be enabled.
The notebooks WLan supports the 802.11 b, g and n standard.
Is your WLan router configured for b/g or n?
I think you should additionally try to configure the WLan again.
Go to control panel -> Network & Sharing center
On the left choose Manager wireless networks
Now press Add and configure the new WLan.
Ensure that you typed right SSID (wlan name), encryption and encryption password

  • Satellite L850 hard disk failure - warranty claim in Sri Lanka

My brother bought me a Satellite L850 from UAE a month ago.
But i am in sri lanka.
The problem now is the hard disk is failed to boot and it says to replace the hard disk.
I have the warrenty card with me.
My question is can i claim the warrenty in Sri Lanka?
    Please help me soon ASAP.
    Thank you.

    Hi
If you did not purchase additional international warranty, the notebooks hardware problems can be fixed only in the country where the notebook has been purchased.
But as far as I know the parts like HDD or memory are user upgradable.
Maybe you dont need to send the notebook to UAE for a fix but maybe the guys would be able to send you an HDD under warranty conditions.
Here you can get all details about the ASPs available world wide.

  • Satellite L850-1RZ constantly erasing my data

    Hello!
I hope you guys could help me! I have a toshiba notebook model satellite L850 - 1RZ with windows 8 that I bought a year ago, after two months since I bought it, it started to do strange things like when I turn it on it lasted a eternity to show the start screen and the colours and distributions was completely different and it erased all my folders and data but if I restarted it again then everything goes normal.
This happened lots of times 'till some day it didn't go back to normal, so I called the technical service and they told me that it seems to be a virus so i should reboot my pc with my security copy and so I did. That seemed to be the end of the problem with the format of my pc. But 2 months later it started to happened again, and this time i didn't know what to do because i didn't thought it would be a virus since I haven't use my pc to surf the web, but still I thought that maybe it was any of the programs that I have installed so I reboot my pc again formating everything. And so a month later it begun again and now I'm really lost, because this time I didn't surf the web at all and I only install 2 programs and they are installated in other pcs of mine so I know they're not the problem and I'm seriously thinking that it may be a pc problem but I don't know what to do...
I really would appreciate some help!!!
    Thank you guys!!

Described issue is really interesting and sounds somehow mystic. You know very well that notebook, usually, cannot do something n its own. Everything can be controlled by different software and standard settings.
Unfortunately on this virtual way it is not easy to offer some diagnostic and explanation why all this happen. I really don't know what kind of advice I can give you.
Best thing to do is complete OS reinstallation and usage of factory settings but you have already done this.
Maybe stupid question now but do you use your notebook alone or someone else has access to it?

  • Satellite L850: usage of AC adptor and battery at the same time?

    Hi,
I have Satellite L850 and I need to know the good practice in charging the battery.
I mean by the good practice, the way by which I get the longest possible life for my laptop's battery.
Currently, I always keep my laptop connected to the charger power cord regardless its battery being completely charged or not. Does this behavior reduces the life time of the battery?
Also some of my friends advised me with strange advice, that I can to remove the battery even the computer is on when it is connected to the charger power cord! Does this safe and possible?
Please I'm waiting your help. If there is a documented answer it will be nice.
    Best Regards
    Said Bakr

    > Currently, I always keep my laptop connected to the charger power cord regardless its battery being completely charged or not. Does this behaviour reduce the life time of the battery?
I do the same all the tie and now after almost two years battery on my Satellite P500 is still in good condition so I think batteries are not so sensitive.
As Akuma wrote from time to time use notebook on battery power supply only and do a complete discharge and recharge.
    > Also some of my friends advised me with strange advice, that I can to remove the battery even the computer is on when it is connected to the charger power cord! Does this safe and possible?
You can do this and use notebook without battery but I think it is not necessary.

  • Satellite L850-17K: Flashcards working but not all FN keys are available

    Hi everone,
    2 days ago I reinstalled Windows 7 (64-bit) on my Satellite L850-17K.
I succeeded in reinstalling all drivers, however I have had some problems with my function keys.
After a long search on the internet I found the flashcards utility, but now I only have like 4 flashcards showing up (brightness, touchpad, mute, wireless) But only the touchpad and mute function are responding. Before reinstalling Windows I also had a function for screen output which is also not shown/responding.
The flashcards I do have also don't look the same as before.
Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
    Many thanks!

    Hello
According notebook specification your Satellite was delivered with WIN7 64BIT Home Premium so I don't understand why you don't use this recovery image that includes all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.
Anyway, if you want to have own OS version all stuff can be downloaded from Toshiba download page http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
What you need to install is Toshiba Value added package and all other Toshiba specific tools and utilities.
    > The flashcards I do have also don't look the same as before
    How to understand this?

  • Using Win7 Recovery DVDs to bring Satellite L850-1C9 to "Out of the Box"?

    Hi,
I am trying to use the recovery DVDs for my Satellite L850-1C9, PSKDLE, to return my HD to the original condition.
Even though the hidden partition was there, I always got errors, for instance F3-F200-0002.
But this was not the only one.
I am at present time, wiping the HD to give it the appearance of being a replacement HD, that takes about 5hours.
I am unable to identify any online docs about how to correctly use the DVDs.
Can anyone give me a link as I appear to be using the wrong search argument on my Android Tablet.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Andy

    Hi
If you would use the Recovery DVD for system recovering, the hidden partition isnt very important in such case. Why? Because booting from the Recovery DVD would start the recovery process and would format the HDD and delete all partitions.
During this recovery process, the deleted partition would be created again.
The question is now: why does the error message appear?
It could be related to Recovery DVD issue. Did you already recover the notebook using the Recovery disk in the past? If its the first time trying to use these recovery disks then probably the disks have not been created properly.
At the other hand it could be possible that your HDD malfunctions and therefore the recovery process interrupts.
So from my point of few you need to check both cases.

  • Satellite L850 - HD Webcam is not working

Hi, I've been trying to get my webcam to work, but it just doesn't seem to, I've had a look online but to no avail, so you guys are my last chance before I give up and buy an external one of send it back to you. I'll try to give you as much information as I can.
I've had this laptop since the 21st of August, I bought it from PC World. It's a Satellite L850 with 64-bit Windows 7
At first the webcam worked fine, everything was awesome and I thought it was great.
Then suddenly a couple weeks ago, it just stopped. I got a little notification in the bottom left of my screen that said "USB Device Not Recognised", Uh oh. Whenever I try to use it my laptop says it doesn't have one. For a couple weeks, the camera would be ok, and then not ok, it would change. Sometimes I could use it, other times I couldn't.
I had a look in Device Manager, and there was no mention of "Imaging Devices" as there was before. But there is an "Unknown Device" in the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" drop down, with a yellow sign above it.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Drivers - I followed advice from a forum and downloaded the latest apparent Webcam Driver for Windows 7 64-bit. Extracted it to my desktop, and ran the .exe. After pressing the start button, it loads up and asks me if I'm sure that I want the program to make changes to my computer. I press yes, but then nothing apparent happens. I was expecting a "Drivers Installed Correctly" or something, but nothing happened, and the problem didn't go away. I'm not sure if there was supposed to be anything, but eh. I downloaded a program called DevManView which allowed me to see all the devices that have ever been on the laptop. My "Toshiba Web Camera - HD" was among them, so I took a look at the properties. It said "Disabled: No, Connected: No. I've come to the conclusion that it is connected, but for some reason my laptop just can't work out what it is. Is there anything I can do?
BIOS - In the BIOS, the webcam is enabled.
System Restore - Went back to when the Webcam would have been working, but to no avail, no change.
System changes/webcam changes that could have caused the problem:
I used something called Fake Webcam, so I could replay videos over to my cousins through skype, I have since uninstalled all of it. I never used the webcam normally when I got fake webcam, but then when I tried it, it wouldn't work, then when I uninstalled Fake Webcam, it said that no camera was detected.
I'm at my wits end, I really want this thing to work, any suggestions?

Best thing for you would be to make ultimate check and install recovery image again and test functionality with factory settings. I know it is most radical method but after doing this you will see if the cam is recognized and listed properly or not.
If the problem starts to be present again I think there can be some hardware problem.
What do you think about all this?

I need the info how to install these drivers AND LINK TO THE CORRECT DRIVERS TO DOWNLOAD

    Tks Gill

Hmm it seems that just few Win 8 drivers are released for this unit.
    Ive got another idea.
Win 8 supports and provides an own repair and fix options.
Here an useful and interesting information:
    +Windows 8 Recovery & Repair+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm
There are different ways to recover or repair a PC which are:
    1. Refresh
    2. Reset
    3. Recovering using a recovery media
    4. System Image Recovery
    5. System Restore
    6. Automatic Repair
    7. Command Line
I would recommend trying the first option called *Refresh:*
The "Refresh" option is primarily a repair method. It is a great method of returning your PC to a known good state while preserving your files and a great deal of your configuration. With the "Refresh your PC" option, user accounts, data files, and some settings are preserved on your PC without the need to create a backup, or make choices about what to keep or remove
