Satellite M40x will not boot up after CPU upgrade test

I have an M40x Laptop. I took the CPU out of it to replace it with another to test the computer booted up fine so I shut down and took it out and put it's original CPU back in, and it would not boot. Now it will not boot up at all with either of the CPU's all. When I turn on the power all I get is a white screen for a few seconds and the laptop shuts itself back down. Both the CPU's are good because I have since tested them in other computers to make sure that was not the problem.
Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this??

Im not surprised.
As far as I know Toshiba does not support any CPU upgrades and it's not advisable to do something like that.
Its a fact that the CPU replacement on the notebooks is not easy and mostly not recommended.
The processors used in portables are connected to the system board using a process called TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method and is used in the interests of miniaturization and heat dissipation.
Did you assign the new heat paste? Its necessary and important if you want to connect the CPU again.
So possibly this is a reason for the no booting.
I think more details you will get from the service guys in your country

  • Satellite M60 will not boot up after BIOS update through windows

    Hi all,
I was updating my bios on my M60 with the latest bios version and I was following the windows flashing procedure (the recommended one) and it blue screened and dumped. Now the laptop wont boot, wont even post. Just a big dead brick :(
I'm fairly proficient with hardware (I'm a software engineer) but I do not know how to reflash a laptop when this sort of thing happens. Is there a trigger bios reset on board? Is there anything I can do my self? If I take it back to my dealer how likely is it they will be able to reflash the bios in house? (Its a fairly large dealer in the Toronto area)
This being a work system I need the solution that has the smallest time impact - cost is not too big an issue.
    Any help would be grand,
    thanks in advance.

    Hello Kristan
According to your problem description I presume the BIOS chip is damaged and unfortunately you can not do much alone. Please contact Toshiba service and explain them the situation. They will explain you everything you must know and you can talk with them about costs and the time they need for notebook repairing.

  • Apple will not boot up after RAM upgrade

I purchased 2 Centon 2GB (PC2-5300 SO-DIMM DDR2-667) sticks of ram. I know my machine's max is 3GB. I read that 2 2GB sticks will work with my model. The computer will recognize 4GB, but only use 3GB. After I install the RAM and turned the computer on nothing happened except the night light on the front just flashed very quickly. I have tried different configurations of the ram such as swapping the sticks and only using one stick at a time, but the same thing happens. My only guess is, I purchased two sticks of bad ram. Any help would be appreciated.

Put the old RAM back in and see if it works. If it does, the problem is the RAM you bought. If not, you may have damaged something in the process of installing the new RAM, in which case you should give it a thorough visual inspection. If you don't see anything, you may have zapped something with a static discharge, in which case it will probably be time to buy a new iMac.

  • Macbook will not boot up after running Software Update

My MacBook will not boot up after running Software Update (Security update + Java?) earlier today. I have only the gray start up screen + Apple logo + gear wheel constantly rotating. I have tried restarts several times and tried to start up from my original system DVD - this makes no difference.
I called Apple support, tried resetting the power and PRAM - still no difference. He had no knowledge of other problems reported; although I note recent post may have same issue.
I cannot get an appointment at my Apple Store before Monday.
    Any suggestions?

Still no success. When I hold down the option key when powering up I get the hard disk icon plus arrowhead (only). When clicking the arrowhead it goes to the gray screen + apple logo+ rotating gearwheel.
This happens both with DVD in slot and without DVD. the DVD image is not coming up on screen. When I start up without DVD the hard disk icon appears promptly. When I start with DVD in the DVD is spinning for a short period before the hard disk icon appears. On clicking the arrowhead to hard disk icon the DVD spins again for a while then stops. Apart from the DVD spinning, both situations result in gray screen + apple logo+ rotating gearwheel.

windows xp will not boot up after installation of desktop software 4.3.  Where do I start to get my p.c. going again ???

I get the message that a recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
The computer does not boot up in safe mode or last known good configuration.
I'm glad you think the software has nothing to do with it, but perhaps you can also explain why this problem started as soon as I downloaded the desktop software and tried to restart the computer.

  • Cisco 7941G phones will not boot up after factory reset.

Cisco 7941G phones will not boot up after factory reset.
    The following happens.
    1. Speaker light lit (Green)
    2. Phone displays a firmware upgrade page (see attachment) for a few minutes. (Doesn't seems to be upgrading, but it "saids" upgrading)
    3. Saw Cisco logo with a Java Powered page.
    4. The whole thing loops again and again...
I think the reason why the phone isn't booting up is because the phone needs to know where to find the configuration/firmware files from a tftp server. I do have a TFTP server, but normally I need to go in settings to change the alternative tftp server, but the thing is that now I can't even press the settings button...
    Please help.

How many phones were reset and upgrading at one time? What is the setting of the TFTP Maximum Serving Count (Advanced TFTP Service Parm) on each of the TFTP servers?
Sounds like too many devices trying to use TFTP at once.

  • Satellite L100 will not boot up if wi-fi is enabled

    Hi
Starting from the beginning, yesterday for first time my husband connected his Satellite Pro L100 PSLA4E to an LCD TV using a s-video cable. Everything seemed to work fine but thebackground on thedesktop had vanished, there was just a plain white background with all the usual desktop icon. He restarted the lappy thinking this would sort it out but did not disconnect from the TV first. The lappy did not start back up - just had a plain black screen, no warnings or anything.
A couple techie minded friends arrived at that point and suggested the lappy had 'lost' its display drivers and, after a lot of research decided the only option was to reinstall everything from scratch.
I do not have the original Toshiba restore disks or recovery disks so downloaded all the drivers from this site. Now the laptop will not boot-up if the wifi is turned on. This model has a Atheros network card - at least the lable on the bottom says contains Atheros AR5BMB5.
If I turn the wifi switch to off the lappy starts up every time, if however the switch is on it will not start up even in safe mode. If I turn the wifi on after windows XP has started up the lappy freezes and keyboard etc are non responsive and i have to force a shut-down by holding down the power button.
So far I have spent hours trawling this and other websites to try find any clues that might help.
Does anyone have any suggestions as Christmas is likely to be hell if hubby does not have his lappy to play with!!!
    Many thanks in anticipation.

    Hello Tree
After almost 10 years with Toshiba notebooks I must say that I have never heard about something like this. For me it sounds unbelievable.
The best solution for you is to install OS using original Toshiba recovery image. If you don't have one you can order it.
What you can try is to enter BIOS settings at startup. Set it to default settings and check if the problem persists.

  • G4 will not boot up after installing latest update

Just installed latest OS 10 update (10.4.8 or 9?) Mac will not boot up. The ring sounds on start up and the apple shows on video but it never gets to the rotating circle. It has been over an hour. I have restarted twice to no avail. I have also disconnect all peripheral. Do you have any suggestions as to what to do next?

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
Try a boot in safe mode (startup holding"shift" key after chime). This will help determine if you have conflicting drivers, fonts, etc. present, and helps bypass damaged software components:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393
If successful, run Disk Utility. If not, try a single user boot, and run fsck:

Alternatively, boot from your OS install disk, and run Disk Utility.
Post back with your results, please!

  • Device will not Boot up after a battery pull.

Hi guys, today is my first time using this website and I also registered today so I am very much NEW here.
I live in Jamaica and my service provider is Digicel Jamaica. My phone is out of warranty by 6 months now as it was purchased 1.5 years ago from Digicel through my company that I was working for.
    I have a Torch 9860 with OS version 7.1.
Two months ago while charging the phone with the charger that was supplied from the manufacturer, i realised that the phone had become very hot and as such  i removed the charger and let it cool via removing the battery cover, at that point i realised that using the keypad to type messages the slightest tap of any letter resulted in that letter either not responding or it would give me multiples of the same letter , which prompted me to tap delete  which would either delete the whole word or sometimes just the letter. at other times, the keypad would work just fine. the battery also did not keep charge for more than a few minutes, and upon inspecting the battery realised it was swollen, as such I had it replaced with one purchased from my Dealer which solved the issue of not holding a charge, but the keypad was still behaving funny as previously explained above.
My major issue I am now facing is I did a battery Pull anf after replacing the battery, the Phone will not boot up, no blackberry logo with the load bar being displayed, the phone appears to be dead. the battery indicator light is blank even if the charger is connected. This occurred once  about a week ago and after several remove and replacing the battery it finally booted up and worked, but did another battery pull two days ago and it still will not power on.
Please Help, can you advise me if this is a new issue or what needs to be done. I am thinking as a last option to replace the entire board, but out here in Jamaica, that is a very costly option.
Thank you for taking the time to review this, any help or guidance or feedback will be greatly appreciated.

  • Toshiba Satellite Laptop - Will Not Boot, Safe Mode Not Accessible

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help.
I am trying to help my mother-in-law (I know, who does that!?) with her laptop. Because of the boot problems, I can only offer you limited info on the specs, but here is what I do know.
    Toshiba Satellite
    Model Number PSAE6C-TJ908C
    2 Gig RAM (assuming DDR2)
    HDD is a Toshiba MK2035GSS 200Gig
    OS Windows Vista
    Bios Version 2.60
    Problem:
First it would boot ok in one user account, but when booted in secondary account it would act odd, ie caps lock stayed on when not pressed, etc. Deleted secondary account, ran Windows repair function, now I cannot access the primary account, will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc. I have to use an external keyboard as the laptop keyboards enter key and "a" keys do not work. (New keyboard which was replaced in December, warranty has since run out, thank you Staples.)
Any and all help greatly appreciated. I'll answer any other questions you have as they come up, I realize I may have left out some key details.
I forgot to add a couple of details. When booting, it hangs at the Toshiba screen prompting for either F2 for setup or F12 for boot device selection, when you reach the log in screen it gives a number of odd sounding beeps (3 I believe), the Filter Keys box comes up, and when you try to enter the login password it will not recognize it.

    Satellite A200-TJ (9PSAE6C-TJ908C)
will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc.
I have to use an external keyboard as the laptop keyboards enter key and "a" keys do not work.

That's one sick laptop. If the thing beeps on startup and even the keyboard doesn't work, I'd figure on replacing it.
Are there important files you need to rescue?

  • G4 Will not Boot Up after Quick Time 7.1.6 Upgrade

I upgraded the most recent Quicktime update last night and opted for System Shutdown afterward. This morning the machine will not boot up. It goes to the Apple and the swirling circle for up to a half hour - still no luck.
    Any ideas?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Are you sure it was just the QT update? Security Update version 1.0 came out about the same time. It has since been pulled and replaced with version 1.1 following some users experiencing issues (although 1.0 worked fine for me).
Try booting into "Safe Mode" (hold down Shift during start-up) and see if it will allow you to run Software Update again.
Failing that Barry's suggestion of an A & I will undoubtedly do the trick.

  • Ipad will not boot up after 7.1.2 update

updated to 7.1.2 yesterday and I pad will not boot up. it turns on and I get the logo but will not completely boot back on into home screen. I tried hold both button down and it would turn off but when turn on it did the same time.  let it run all night while plugged in to see if it would boot but would not. don't want to have to restore because of loosing all my data I have on ipad.  What can I do?

If the reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears does not help, there is not much you can do except restore via the recovery mode per the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Vista will not boot/install after performing a restore to factory settings on satellite l305

I have a satellite l305 that i bought new thru walmart.com about a year & a half ago, and for the past few months it seems like there are more & more issues with this pc that are causing it not to work properly-everything from drivers failing-or even disappearing, in some cases-to  crashing into a blue screen everytime i insert a micro sd card into the slot.. My sound drivers are gone & even after i THOUGHT i downloaded them again, they still won't install or even recognize that they are there and then yesterday it suddenly stopped being able to fully load some of my fave games  that i play daily.. I have tried EVERY SINGLE SUGGESTION in EVERY  article, forum, help site, etc.,that i could find & even tried to get help over the phone from a pc tech here locally, and nothing has been able to fix my issues. I have done so many system restores from so many different restore points, installed updates, uninstalled updates, tried to install new drivers, rolled back drivers, started in safe mode to do diagnostics checks, entered BIOS & checked EVERY setting, reset all settings to default, checked error logs, etc., etc., etc...I have even completely disassembled my entire laptop & checked all wiring, fuses, etc., made sure everything was working, etc., So, finally yesterday I decided that it's gotta be something to do with a tech issue-probably with my vista home premium OS that came pre-installed at purchase, so i thought it best to just go ahead & go into the back up & restore & back up all my files onto an external hd using the file transfer wizard option inside the restore center, and then proceed into restoring the pc to it's factory, or "out of box", state. And i assumed i covered my bases by saving the back up-just in case...ohhh no-not the case at all!
It did't even occur tp me to that i might need an actual BOOT disk for vista after the fact. I just assumed that "out of box" meant just how it originally came-WITH vista pre-installed & ready to set up-like it did the day i bought it! i also was under the assumption that, isnce it never asked for a product key or anyting to activate vista then, that it wouldn't need one now either. But anyway, so this is where i'm at now-after i did the factory restore & turned it back on, it said to wait while windows finishes installing-but it never finished, then finally about an hour later, it said that windows was unexpectedly interrupted during installation & did not complete, and for me to restart pc to try install again. But after i did that, it was the same thing over & over. it NEVER installs!
So then i decided to go ahead & "restore windows using back up image" that i created on my external hd prior to  the factory restore, thinking that  it would just kinda pu **bleep** all back, but thats not working either. it recognizes the drive, and takes me to a menu where i can actually even view all the files on the drive and even tho they are known by my pc to be back up files, it still won't associate them to being back up files to MY PC!! I even got desperate enough to find a site that claimed to offer a free vista boot disk in the form of an iso image that i burned onto cd & tried to boot from as well. That actually took me to an install screen for windows & all the way to where it asks for product key-which DID NOT come locatedon any sticker anywhere on my laptop, and because they DID NOT include any OS utility, install, or boot disks with the purchase of my laptop, i don't know what the product key is OR where else i might be able to find that info, and i WILL NOT pay for ANOTHER ONE,  just because they were too lazy or cheap to send  the disks with the pc! so i tried to skip this step till later, but when i skip it, it shows anpther error saying that install was terminated & could not finish install & if i wish to continue, for me to restart my pc & re-attempt install..WHAT IS GOING NE WITH THIS AND WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY DO TO JUST BE ABLE TO USE MY LAPTOP AGAIN?? HELP ME PLEASE SOMEONE!!

    Hi,
I do not really understand... Did you made a backup before restore to factory settings? And did you copy all backup files to an external device? If not, the data is gone!
Why? Restoryng to factory does not mean a reinstallation. It means to fill the whole harddisk with an image of the first (factory) installation. All other data will be destroyd! Other partitions are deleted and normally you find only one big partition - the whole hdd.
If you have a complete backup on external drive and it is corrupted during restore, try to open the files manually. Maybe you can restore some single files.
    Good luck
    kind regards
    Stefan
