Satellite P300 - 01S or PSPCCC-01S01C CPU is underclocked with each Bios update

Why is Toshiba crippling the performance of the CPU ,FSB and Memmory speed with each bios update
when perchased bios version 1.60
 *    internal clock speed 2001 MHz
update to Bios version 1.80
*   internal clock speed 1995 MHz
     crippled performance by .5 %
update to Bios version 2.50
*    internal clock speed 1993.4
     crippled performance by 1.95 %
*    other issues fan coming on more often
     intel wireless unstable
     etc
in this last Bios update 2.50 a noticable drop in performance under load
I paid for >>"Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P7350 (2.0GHz 1066MHz FSB, L1 Cache 32KB/32KB, L2 Cache 3MB)"  not a 1.9 Processor
>> YOU ARE CRIPPLING THE FSB AND MEMMORY TIMINGS AND UNDER CLOCKING MY LAPTOP <<
I would like it restored to its former advertised speed 2.0GHz
The reduced speed is noticable.
everyone should check for obvious reduced performance

thank you for your repley
i am very much in favor of stability ,reliability and performance but the fact remains
that Toshiba Techs have made a conscious  and willfull decision to under clock the laptop and make no
mention that the bios updates may result in processing reduction, as for the call to tech support it was fruitless
because they are clueless as to why such things happen (Corporate Denial).
In Canada there were two very close speced laptops
one for 899.00 CAD with 1.9 GHz CPU
and the one I bought 2 months ago 1149.00 CAD 2.0 GHz
To me this looks like Toshiba overclocking the laptop to get out the retail door.
its not just affecting me, it affects everyone that buys a Toshiba laptop.
I will not back down on this point. The origional advertised and paid for specs, should
be restored in an upcoming bios update. If not, then it just confirms my original
findings.
This is refered to as "BAIT and SWITCH" and the practice is illegal in Canada.

  • Satellite P300-01S: Second HDD cover will not fit back on

    Hi,
I have a P300-01S (Canada). There is a second drive bay, including the sata/power connectors.
I've installed a second hard drive (64gb SSD), and it works just fine.
However, the cover for the drive bay will not fit back on. The cover has 5 pegs that prevent it from being put back on if a drive is in the bay. I believe the pegs are there to provide support to the cover when no drive is in there.
I see no way to remove these other then to snap them off. Any ideas?
These are not the normal tabs on the edges that are used to hold the cover in place, these are 1/2" long cylindrical pegs in the middle of the drive bay cover.

I would hav preferred not to cut anything either, but I couldn't find a part# online to order a cover without the pegs. I am sure there are some P300's (maybe Satelitte Pro P300's) out there that do list the 2nd drive bay as a feature, so they must have a cover without those pegs, but I couldn't find it.
It's working, pegs are cut off so the door fits on now. SSD is working well too.

  • Higher Idle CPU Temps with Newest BIOS update for T430s/T430

My idle temperatures of my CPU as reported by TPFC .62 before the UEFI Bios update were hovering around low 40's to high 40's. Now after the UEFI BIOS update the Idle temps as reported by TPFC .62 is a lot higher. It idles anywhere between 47 to high 55's. I noticed this immediately I updated the BIOS. Anyone else notice this???

    Hello
    At first just one comment:
*I am updating my laptop regularly whenever i receive alert through TEMPRO or Toshiba service center.*
Thats nice but definitely not necessary. When the system runs well, don't touch or change anything. Maybe sounds stupid now but I recommend you to remove TEMPRO from the system. Believe me you don't need it. I have 2 years old Satellite A300 and still original BIOS. It runs perfectly and I don't want to make risk and change anything. Since last month I have Satellite U500-1EX and will do the same. Tempro is already removed and I am happy with factory settings.
All you have done is OK but at least you can try to reinstall whole OS now using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up) to see if everything will works well again. sorry but if this will not help I think you need BIOS downgrade to old version.

  • Satellite L850 with broken BIOS update

Hello! I'm posting here because I'm desperate. I have a Satelitte L850-1PD (EU model - please don't say me I can't write here beacuse is an EU model, I'm sure that I'll get better support here than EU support forums). I recently update laptop BIOS to v6.80 (InsydeH2O UEFI) but after the restart process the laptot didn't boot. It only powers on and it doesn't show anything on the screen and it immediatly shuts down if I press power button again (here a video of what it does). I was Googling days looking for a solution and I've read of a recovery procedure that uses a USB stick to reflash the FD BIOS file, but I don't know the keys to start it and how the FD file has to be renamed.
Thank you in advnace for everyone who'll help me

  • Satellite P300 - Microphone doesn't work after Windows 7 installation

    Hi,
I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Satellite P300. The built in microphone was fine with Vista but does not now work with Windows 7.
I've tried going to the sound section and it does not list the built in mike - just the jacks. Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    James

    Hi
Maybe you didnt install the driver for the microphone?! Therefore you have to install the webcam driver because the microphone is a part of it. You can get it here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
After this it should be possible to use the internal microphone.
By the way: Which application you use for the internal microphone? Skype or something else?

  • Satellite Pro P200-15W: After Bios Update 1.90 fan incredibly noisy

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200-15W, I've recently done a BIOS update to version 1.9 and seems to have been a big mistake :-/.
After restarting the computer I had a lot of software deconfig and now the fan has become incredibly noisy.
I have the problem with the Toshiba Vista registration software, I get this message: "Vista registration has stopped working". I've read other threads, I don't want to just disable it from the start.ini file, I'd like to actually solve the problem if there's a way.
Is there a way to change the fans configuration? I've read a Toshiba post about another notebook model that had the same problem of noisy fans after a BIOS update, they gave to that a solution with a new version of BIOS, is there a way to reverse the BIOS to the previous version? (will the restore CD be helpful for that purpose?)
    Cheers
    Edgard

    Hi
It seems the fan table was changed and renewed in the new BIOS version and therefore the fans run ofttimes.
Why the fan table was changed?
Well, usually something like this is necessary to improve decrease the internal temperature while the CPU and GPU are running with full performance.
This helps to prevent the hardware from damage!!
Usually the Recovery CD formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and installs only the Toshiba image on the notebooks HDD.
The image contains the OS, drivers and additional software and has nothing to do with the BIOS update.
But you can try to recover the notebook to see if the software issues like "Vista registration" can be solved!
If you want to reverse the BIOS you have to contact the ASP in your country!!!
Sorry but this everything what I can suggest!
    Best regards

  • Satellite Pro L100 - Crash during Bios update

    Hi
    I own a Satellite Pro L100 (PSLA4E)
From the Toshiba site I downloaded the BIOS update. Whilst installing it I read that it needed power cable plugged in. Before I could cancel it to get the cable it had started and then froze! The computer stopped working and so I turned it off! Since then I have read that, that was a very big mistake!
When turning it on the fan turns on and I can hear the cd drive spinning etc. After 15 seconds, which the screen is blank, the computer starts beeping!
Is there any way of fixing this?
    Thanks very much
    Rich

    Hi Richard
Looks not good buddy according to your description something went wrong during the update procedure and now the ROM module was not flashed correctly.
Maybe you area lucky man and the motherboard is not damage but only the Rom module must be flashed again.
Unfortunately, this must be done by ASP technician. You will have to contact the ASP in your country for a help.
Good luck and have a nice day

  • BIOS Update Failure Satellite L505D-S5965

I have a Satellite L505D-S5965 that was interrupted in the middle of a BIOS update. It turns on but doesn't display anything, the power and AC Adapter lights are solid and the fan is running. I tried plugging in an external monitor and using the Fn + F5 shortcut but that was unsuccessful. I was wondering which brand the BIOS was and whether they have a recovery tool? Any insight is awesome!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Reflash for INSYDE BIOS.
Using a separate computer if necessary perform the following:
    1) Download your notebook model's BIOS "*.exe" file from the Support section. Mine was: slm0v150.exe
    2) Extract the files from the "*.exe" file.
    3) Locate the file that ends with ".fd", this is your actual BIOS file.
*(for different brand BIOS's the file may have a different extension such as .rom or .bin)
    4) Rename your BIOS file to: "BIOS.fd" without the quotations.
    5) Format a USB Flash Drive to (FAT or FAT32) file system.
    6) Copy your newly named "BIOS.fd" file to the root directory of the Flash Drive. (Not inside any folders)
On the corrupt computer perform the following:
    7) Remove the Battery, AC Adapter, and Hard Drive.
    8) Plug the Flash Drive with your "BIOS.fd" file on it into any USB port.
    9) While holding the Fn and F key on your keyboard:
    a) Plug the AC adapter into your computer.
    b) Hold the Power button until the computer turns on.
    c) Release the Power button and both keys once you hear the fan turn on.
    10) Observe your Flash Drive's LED's blinking, wait until your computer turns off and remove the Flash Drive.
    11) Replace Battery and Hard Drive.
    12) You're computer should be all set!

  • Satellite P300 - Keyboard layout changed

Well, I am running a Toshiba Satellite P300 and I am having problem.
I just got it back from repair and they changed the motherboard. I have updated the BIOS. I did a fresh OS install to Windows 7 that. I didn't have this problem before it went out for repair but now when I press the Num Lock key, it changes my number pad to numbers, as expected, but also changes the right side of my keyboard to numbers as well which is very frustrating.
I have been surfing for 2 days online to find a solution to it and even called the tech that was in charge of the repair and no one has any answers for me.
And another problem after repair : without Model Name ,Part Nr and Serial Nr

So far it looks like W7 has the correct driver and the external keyboard has its key presses correctly processed.
    Next?
When you press num lock on the external keyboard does it also toggle the alpha keys on the keyboard to numerics? - Trying to establish if the key code from the external k/b is the same as that generated by num lock on the laptop. Your laptop is behaving as if it is a laptop with no numeric key pad and you can toggle between "numbers or text". I've had a search and can find no "shortcut" keystrokes to do that - I also searched to see if a "Shift Lock" could be emulated since that is a key that has disappeared from modern keyboards.
I presume you have checked that your BIOS is the current version. The only other suggestion I've got is that the replacement m/b has not had Toshiba "lock outs" applied and it is in a generic bios state and you can access settings such as the number of keys on the keyboard or legacy keyboard support. Suggest you identify some "small" Toshiba laptops with no numeric keypad and download their manuals to see how they handle no numeric keypad or just ring Toshiba and ask them?
    Message was edited by: peterk_1
With your laptop num lock on when you hold "Fn" and press one of the remapped keys do you get a letter? (add the shift key and get a capital) if so it's behaving like a Satellite L450D-11X (fn+f11 is the numeric toggle on that machine)

This is OK because the Conexant sound chip does not support other sources
Ive got a unit with Realtek sound chips and with Conexant sound chip.
The Realtek support the recording from other sources but Conexant doesnt.

    Check please http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm
Generally speaking CPU upgrade is not supported. Some people have reported about successful CPU upgrade but I think it is not necessary. RAM upgrade to maximum level will increase laptop performance and it should be enough. What do you think about this?
Is there some reason for CPU upgrade?

    Hi all
I recently re-installed windows 7 on my Satellite P300-1FN and after some minor glitches it was running fine.
I stalled some drivers and updates then it prompted me to restart.
I turned it off and left it while I had lunch then tried to boot it and nothing happened.
I mean nothing, not even the light for mains power comes on. I put the battery in which I know has at least half a charge and nothing.
Changed the fuse again nothing. What is this about?
    It's completely dead.
    Any help appreciated.

    >I mean nothing, not even the light for mains power comes on.
    Sounds not good man
Sounds like CPU or motherboard issue because no LEDs are on.
    But try this;
Disconnect Ac adaptor, remove the battery, wait some time (2-4 hours) and connect both parts again.
Check if you could power up the unit.
If this would not be possible then I would recommend contacting an professional ASP technician
Sorry but this is everything what I can suggest

    Hello
    Sounds like a hardware issue...
You could try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Wait one hour and then connect both devices again.
If it doesnt work you need professional help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and tell you what part must be replaced.
Here you can find your local ASP:
