Satellite Pro C850-1M - upgrade to Win 8.1 fails - error 0xC1900101-0x30018

Hello to all,
bought a new Sattelite Pro C850-1MX (PSCBZE 00M009GR) in december 2013. System is running almost unchanged to delivery state. Yet installed OpenOffice, Firefox and AdobeReader in most actual versions. And updated driver for AMD-GPU to latest version. No other changes done.
Now tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1 via Windows-App-Store. Download was done, upgrade run, reboot, installing changes, preparing devices --> reboot, rollback to 8.0 with error code 0xC1900101-0x30018.
Searched internet for solutions: Toshiba sais
- update all Toshiba-components via TOSHIBA Service Station --> done
- (Link: [http://www.toshiba.de/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/]): deinstall some components: esp. LAN/WLAN-driver.
Hmmm...if I do so I cannot access Windows App-Store to rerun the upgrade because i have no network-connection. Stupid...
- Why cant I upgrade an almost unchanged system because of some driver-uncompatibilities where i didnt change anything from delivery state???
Please state any hint/solution. Thanks!
Mark

This error message appears because of some not compatible drivers and tools which are already preinstalled on Windows 8 system.
This issue has been reported many times here in the forum and was solved as reported by user harrie_1 at 12-Jan-2014

+What important is to remove the internet connection.+
+Only use to download 8.1 then disconnect (also Lan cable)+
+After starting Win 8.1 for the first time do not connect to the internet.+
+On another pc download first the drivers for 8.1 audio, realtek wlan and bluetooth and display driver.+
+Install and restart after this when de system is stable you can connect to internet and download the windows updates.+

  • Win 8.1 activation issues on Satellite Pro C850-1EQ after upgrade

    Hello everybody!
I face a problem after upgrading my TOSHIBA SATELLITE PRO C850-1EQ preinstalled windows version 8 to 8.1.
After installation windows demands the product key in order to activate windows 8.1, but I haven't this activation key.
I called Microsoft (Greece) but couldn't help me and told me to call Toshiba (Greece).
The man from Toshiba's technical support told me to call back to Microsoft!
Also, he told me to check here (https://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/) before I start the process. Step No. 7 says "Remember your Windows password. You may need to enter it after updating."
Now I returned back to Win 8.
Is there a way to learn my activation key before the installation of w8.1?
I tried to find that using various tools but no one finded the key.
Plus, after the installation of 8.1, a message says:
    +Error code: 0xC004C003+
+The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked+
I trust Toshiba and I want to use the latest version of w8.1.
I would be greatful if someone technician from Toshiba could help me with this issue.
    John (from Greece)

    Hi
Yes, the preinstalled *gets automatically activated* when I restore or refresh my pc and I do not need the activation key.
When I upgrade to windows 8.1 it asks me the activation key in order to activate the new version.
Before the upgrade, yes, I updated win 8 and the drivers too. I always keep my pc updated.
    What do you mean:
+Try this: create the Toshiba Recovery DVDs (or USB flash memory stick). Use the Recovery medium in order to recover the notebook back to factory settings. Update the Windows 8 to latest state and then perform the upgrade to Win 8.1+
Windows 8 is in a hidden particion in my PC, so I don't need to create recovery disk.
Or do you mean anything alse?
    Thank you for your reply

  • Does Satellite Pro C850-1EQ support Sata III?

I've just picked up a new Satellite Pro C850-1EQ laptop, and am looking to replace the slow 5400rpm drive with an SSD.
I can't find the SATA specifications of this machine anywhere - does it support Sata III (6Gb/sec)?
    Thanks,
    Gareth

    Hi
As far as I know it supports the SATA II (3Gb/s)
But you could install some software diagnostic tools like *SiSoft SANDRA*
This would provide all details about the hardware configuration.
Could you confirm that its SATA II?

  • Satellite Pro C850 wont work after Bios update

my satellite pro c850 cd wont work after bios update from toshiba.
    what do i do?

Saying: dont work you mean it does not power up or what do you mean exactly?
Did you flash the BIOS properly?
Possibly something went wrong during the update and this means that ROM module isnt flashed properly
In most cases a special BIOS crisis disk would be needed to get it working
Not quite sure if you can get it fixed by your own
Check this thread. Maybe it helps:

  • Toshiba Satellite Pro C850-006 Session3_Fulure_To_Initialize Error

Just got my Satellite Pro C850-006 Laptop less than 2 weeks ago. Getting used to it slowly but yesterday I turned it on and I get this message: Session3_Fulure_To_Initialize, its says need to restart and goes through the automatic repair ordeal. It just keeps repeating itself over and over, never getting anywhere. I have look at countless forums but nothing works. Auto repair, recovery, reset, absolutely nothing works. I read it could be a corrupt OS, bad RAM or a bad HDD or even an anti-virus utility which could have deleted the smss file or something like that. Need help please before I ship it off for repairs under warrantee. Thanks.

  • Satellite Pro C850 - WLAN keeps failing after Win 7 installation

    Hi,
    I own a C850-1GR (PSCBXE), which comes with Win8.
I've bought Win 7 32-bit Home Premium and reinstalled it from scratch.
Afterwards I've installed the drivers from toshiba support page in the following order:
    Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
    Intel Management Engine Interface
    Display Driver
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
    Realtek Audio Driver
    ATI HDMI Audio Driver
    SRS Premium Sound HD
    Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
    Realtek LAN Driver
    Realtek Wireless LAN Driver
    Intel Wireless Display
    Realtek Bluetooth Filter Driver Package
    Bluetooth Monitor
    Intel USB3.0 Driver
    Realtek Card Reader
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package
    TOSHIBA Sleep Utility
TOSHIBA Resolution+ Plug-in for Windows Media Player
    TOSHIBA Media Controller
    TOSHIBA Media Controller Plug-in
TOSHIBA Network Device ID Registry Setting Tool
    TOSHIBA Web Camera Application
    PatchFiles PCIIDEREG-1.2
    PatchFiles
When the installation is done, WLAN fails after reboot, alternately.
    This means:
    *First boot: WLAN OK*
    *Second boot: WLAN fails*
*Third boot ( = first boot): WLAN OK*
*Fourth boot ( = second boot): WLAN Fails*
    *and so on.*
Failing means, the WLAN symbol is displayed for a few seconds, then the "no network" icon is displayed.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    >(Why on earth should a device report an error every second system boot?)
Yes, indeed this is very confusing and strange.
    Just one notice regarding:
    >Please note, that the intel driver is for "wireless display".
Intel wireless display works only in connection with Intel WLan card. If your notebook does not contain Wlan card from Intel manufacturers, the wireless display does not work
    >Furthermore, all these drivers are listed on the C850 driver page for Win7-32.
Yes, this is true but all these drivers appear because of different C850 with different hardware configuration.

    Hi
The Windows 8.1 upgrade could fail if installed Windows 8 system isnt up to date.
I recommend you to check for available Win 8 updates (control panel -> system -> Windows update)
You should start with Win 8.1 upgrade only when all patches for Win 8 would be installed

    Hi
First of all you should know that no matter if notebook drivers are released for your notebook, you can install other systems. BUT there is a important note.
If drivers are missing for your favorite system, you will have to search for the drivers at your own hand and this can be difficult since the old hardware parts are not always supported by new Windows systems like Win 8 or Win 8.1
Here for example you can find the Windows 7 system requirements.
    [Windows 7 system requirements|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements]
If your notebook meets the first 4 points, the system will run but as I said above: drivers might be the problem.

  • Satellite Pro M10: firmware upgrade issue DVD UJ-830B FW:1.50, HW:1.00

    Hi,
I had tried to replace the old DVD/CDRW with the above UJ-830B ( FW: 1.50, HW: 1.00) but the result was IDE error. It is not recognize it in Windows at all.
I have tried to solder the contact 48 and 49 but result is the same.
How can I make to work this UJ-830B ( FW: 1.50, HW: 1.00) on Toshiba Pro M10?
Is any one have any solution like firmware upgrade or some hardware soldering/desoldering?
    Thanks.
    Regards

This is not possible because such software is not placed or released on any of Toshiba webpage.
Fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible with all notebooks due to different master/slave/c-sel settings.
Therefore its always advisable to contact the ASP in your country or to check the user manual to get the details about combatable drives.
I can recommend only buying an compatible and supported ODD.
    Bye

  • BIOS Update 6.70 problem with Satellite Pro C850-172

I have two problems with updating the BIOS (the 1st is more important then the 2nd one):
    1. While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:
"The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS"
and it stops. In the DOS window it shows one phrase:
"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit system but recently there has been major automatic update done to it.
I got lost. Is there anything I can do to update BIOS?
    2. Earlier it says that Flash process will be terminated and I need to "contact OEM BIOS engineer to add the NV storage location by HISII interface". But if I want to risk I can continue etc.
Previously I took the risk and updating went well.
But is there possibility to contact OEM BIOS engieneer?

    Hi
    >While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:
    >"The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS"
What is the present BIOS version which is available on your notebook?
In case the BIOS is already up to date, the BIOS flash procedure will be interrupted.
    >"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
Im not quite sure about the meaning of this information but it looks like the BIOS update was released for Windows 8 system and probably its required to upgrade the system from Windows 7 to Windows 8 in order to be able to flash the BIOS
By the way: why you want to update the BIOS? Just because new version is available?
Please note that BIOS update does not improve the notebook performance but fixes some issues. In case your notebook runs properly, the BIOS update is not very important

  • Satellite Pro L670-14p upgraded to Windows 8 - ATI Driver out of date

    Hi,
Recently installed Windows 8 as part of a dual boot system on my laptop. I went to try to play one of the games I usually play under Windows 7 to find it would not even attempt to start as the graphics drivers were out of date... I've searched the Toshiba website for compatible drivers, only to find the newer laptops supported... I've looked around the internet and there is no mention of Windows 8 compatible drivers for the L670-14p.
I know Toshiba have got to make their money, but is it really feasible for them to expect the average punter to by a new laptop everytime a new OS comes out?
As I dual boot, its not really that big an issue, since I can go back to 7, but what about your less techincally minded customers, that have installed Windows 8 on fully capable computers, but the woeful lack of driver updates has now made that process a nightmare for them?
I have always bought Toshiba, since I use my laptop for both business and pleasure... my old Tosh, an Equium is still going strong, no issues at all... but I'm afraid the indifference of Toshiba towards driver updates is staggering, especially for modern machines. The inability and shortsightedness to not fully support a major new OS on release such as Win 8 is quiet frankly pathetic....
I'm sure other laptop manufacturers that actually update their drivers will be thankful for Toshiba's business

    > I know Toshiba have got to make their money, but is it really feasible for them to expect the average punter to by a new laptop everytime a new OS comes out?
In the past Toshiba has offered very good support for different operating systems. I understand you very well but problem is that with Win8 many things are new and Microsoft is player that defines new rules.
In my opinion Toshiba and any other notebook manufacturers offer just hardware package and take care that everything works stabile and user friendly.
Notebook manufacturers offer numerous new notebook models every year and it is not possible that they will go back and offer full support for old models.
I dont know how it works exactly but I dont think Toshiba make this ATI driver. This driver is from hardware manufacturer. What Toshiba do is testing, make some corrections or limitations and offer it for the customers. Thats all.
I have checked which GPU is inside in your notebook. It is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 and this card was used on older models. Unfortunately none of them is supported for Win8.
I know it is maybe stupid situation now but we had the same problem in the past when Microsoft has offered Vista and later Win7. Just specific models were supported.
At the end I must say that Im pretty sure that you will remove Win8 from the system pretty soon when you see how it works.

  • Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, Can't upgrade to Windows 10 - "Something happened" error

I've tried several times and I simply can't upgrade to Windows 10 on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. The instalation process exists with the absurd "Something happened" error. I tried to set the Locale to en/us, and tried to install the ISO through a USB stick but no luck! Earlier I had setup my yoga 2 pro as a dual boot with both Windows 8.1 and Linux. Although I've never made any change to my OEM drives, since I went dual boot the one key recovery service also doesn't work. I still have all those OEM drives intact. When I go to the BIOS setup, I have two boot sectors, one is the original windows boot, and the other is the new linux boot; but I'm not sure it is related or not.

    Hi SteveU,
Many things been tried (read the original post) - hybrid shutdown, intel drivers, uninstalling and installing again Lenovo Energy Managment driver (win 8.1 one), trying to use the Windows10 default driver for Energy management, shutting down with holding the shift (or alt button) can't remember now, many many things and clearly this is a Micorosft issue + Lenovo. Not enough testing down before hand, but everyone is happy at Lenovo as our money is at their bank... and have got expensive bit of kit that we shut-down holding down the button - because is just better than pressing shut-down...
This is the second time I'm let down by Lenovo - was thinking will give them another chance but as you can see moderators viewing or post but none of them has got a solution - isn't that right Amy@Lenovo or Majestic
Clearly Ms and Lenovo will blame each other now.
    Fed up with this...
Windows 8.1 is the way to go, don't know why I was hoping that the latest MS updates will sort the issue out - wrong again
At least the Mail app works fine now

  • Satellite Pro L10: PXE-E61 - Media test failure check cable error message

I recently bought an L10 laptop without the hard drive and everytime i try to boot it with a newly installed hard drive i get this message .
PXE-E61 :MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE
    PXE-MOF: EXITING PXE ROM
    OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND.
CAN SOMEONE MAKE SENSE OUT OF THIS AND EXPLAIN IT TO ME AND ALSO HOW CAN I GET RECOVERY SOFTWARE AS I DO NOT HAVE THE TOSHIBA RECOVERY CD BUT I DO HAVE THE CoA STICKER ON LAPTOP.
    IM DESPERATE PLESE HELP

    Hi Nash,
Your problem is quite straightforward and can be summarised as follows.
    1. You bought a notebook without a hard drive and presumably installed a new hard drive.
    2. You then tried to boot the system from the new hard drive.
The problem here is that there is not yet an operating system installed on the hard drive and as a result the BIOS will try to find an operating system in other places, such as your CD drive, your floppy drive (if you have one), and finally a network connection to a local LAN. If none of these are successful you will receive the error message that you reported.
The obvious solution here would be to install an operating system on your hard drive and you can choose either an original Toshiba recovery disc (obtainable from your local Authorised Service Partner) or you can opt to buy an original Microsoft XP disc in which case you will need to download and install the Toshiba utilities and drivers from the Toshiba web site. My preference would be to get a recovery CD from Toshiba since this will install a guaranteed system with all the necessary utilities and drivers.
Your BIOS will normally be set to search for an operating system on your FDD/CD-ROM, then your HDD and finally on a network lan connection. Once you obtain a recovery CD just load it into your CD-ROM and power on your notebook. The system should find it and then start the installation process. Just follow the on-screen instructions and you should have a valid operating system on your hard drive in about 20-30 minutes.
    best of luck,

  • Upgrade to Windows 8.1 keeps failing - error 0xC1900101

I can't seem to update to windows 8.1 it gives me this error after logging in again:
    "Couldn't update to Windows 8.1
Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.
    0xC1900101 - 0x40017"
The funny thing is that a few weeks ago I already updated to windows 8.1 but because of a faulty driver and not being able to boot into safe mode I had to renew my windows and downgrade to windows 8.0. But now I can't seem to update to windows 8.1 anymore. I installed all the windows updates even the optional ones. So I did a factory reset and uninstalled everything that didn't seemed necessary for windows so the update would go smoother. I found a toshiba page with a tutorial to how to update to 8.1 and it told me to uninstall the following:
    Genesys Logic
    Intel PROSet
    Intel Wireless Display
    Realtek-audio driver
    TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor
    Realtek WLAN driver
    Realtek Bluetooth Filter driver
and on another page it told me to uninstall anything related with toshiba so I did all that and these are programs I currently have:
    http://oi58.tinypic.com/2ak028l.png
I also tried with a clean boot but still no change. My graphics driver atm is version 8.9 while the most recent released version is 13.12 but toshiba only release update 12.1 for windows 8.1 and I did try installing that but it just got me into a endless boot loop.
    My laptop:
    Toshiba Satellite C855-255
    PSCBYE-05000NDU
Could you guys please help me? I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.
