Satellite Pro L40 crashes frequently

i have had the laptop for a few months now an i have foolishly put up with it crashing from 3-10 times per day. its quite anoying, seeing as its not that old. i though it was a ram problem so i upgraded to 2gb and the problem carried on happening. i also have the problem of the hard drive beeping from time to time which i think could be related to the problem. maybe its a faulty HD?
i hope someone can enlighten me.
p.s by upgrading the ram the warrenty can no longer be used if the HD is faulty?

So it is BlueScreening? What are the BSOD 0x000000xx Codes?
First you should test the Memory. Go to www.memtest.org and download the bootable CD or Floppy Disk.
Secondly you should test the HDD. Google for Hitachi DFT (again, a bootable FD or CD) and run the Advanced Test.
If the RAM and HDD pass all tests, a bad driver/software or corrupted Windows install could be causing the problem.
Backup your data and run Recovery.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro L40-15d

    Hi
I have Satellite Pro L40-15d with 512 memory (Samsung) but I wont upgrade to 1GB. I have Kingston ktt667d2/1g I have tray to put in to both slots but nothing work I cant switch on computer.
But when I change for old one laptop is ok. What can I do? Install special program or update BIOS or maybe the memory stick is broken.
    Regards

    Hi
    The notebook doesnt boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;
    - memory modules are not compatible together
    - memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
    - memory modules are faulty
    - one of memory slots is faulty
In most case the memory module replacement helps.
One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didnt boot.
I thought its a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.
    Good luck

  • Satellite Pro L40 - What is a average battery runtime?

    Hi there,
I just recently received my Satellite Pro L40 and am just wondering what the average battery runtime is? Once fully charged it only seems to be able to handle 1hour max. Is this normal?
The laptop I had before was the same, but my friends laptop, which is more than a year older than mine, runs for more than 3 hours on a fully charged battery.
    Is there a fault??
    Thanks

    Hi
It is not easy to answer this question because the battery working time depends from the notebook usage. You should know that you will be able to run the notebook much longer on battery power using only some common applications like Word or Internet Explorer.
Playing games, watching DVDs or burning the CD/DVD waste more battery power because the performance of the single devices is much higher!!!!
Fact is that the Pro L40 notebook was equipped with high-tech parts and devices. The notebook supports a strong Intel Pentium Dual-Core CPU, huge HDD, nice GPU and and and
Furthermore you should know that the preinstalled Vista OS eats many resources and waste more battery power as the Win XP!!!
All this factors has a influence on the battery working time.
Last but not least you should know that there are different batteries on the market.
If you want to increase the battery performance buy a stronger battery!!!

  • Satellite Pro L40 - Sound Driver after Windows XP SP3 Install

    Hi,
I had bought the Satellite Pro L40 about 6 months ago and the speed of the laptop was too slow with windows Vista. So I decided to install an old copy of windows XP that I had bought earlier. I upgraded the windows installation to SP3 before installing all the drivers.
Now all the drivers have been installed properly except the sound driver. I downloaded the XP version of the driver from the toshiba website but it did not work. So I though maybe the vista version would work, so I downloaded that. But that didn't work either.
Can anyone suggest a solution where I can get the sound driver to work? Preferably without having to get the windows reinstalled again.
    Please help me out...!
    Thanks

    hi there,
Try reinstalling the soundcard driver for XP; Just go here -- > [Realtek Soundcard Driver fo XP|http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/sound-20071120150900.zip]
    Hope this helps :)

  • Satellite Pro L40: black screen but faint image in the background

    Satellite Pro L40-17H (PSL4BE-00T005EN)
    Hello,
I would appreciate some help with the following problem:
SYMPTOMS: Screen is black, but I can see that there is a faint image in the background.
I get a good image in external monitor.
I suspect, _among others_, that there may be a faulty *lid sensor/switch*, but I have been unable to locate it, although I have disassembled the unit.
If somebody knows, please let me have the exact *location* where I should look for the switch.
    Thank you

    Thank you RandyRoberts
You are probably right, it is likely that the inverter is faulty, or it might be a bad lamp.
Nevertheless, I cannot exclude the possibility that there is a bad or stuck lid switch. That is why I insist to check that one out as well.
I would still like to know where the lid switch is located on the L40.
    Thanks and regards.

    Thanks for the help.
#3 - I realy consider it as the final solution
    #2 - I already did it - didn't help
Regarding #1 - I don't understand what exactly to delete. The UserFolder>Documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro>4.0 is my working folder of Premier Pro where I'm saving all my current medias and project.
Shall I work with a different folder instead?

  • Can I upgrade the T2310 CPU in Satellite Pro L40-15D series laptop?

Hi, ( I apologise if this has been asked before but when I search ' Satellite pro l40 series' I found no relevant answers )
I've been searching around the net & so far found some conflicting answers to this question so hopefully this forum may be able to help.
    I have a Satellite pro L40 15D laptop and I wish to upgrade the Intel Pentium Dual-Core 1.46 Ghz T2310 CPU to a Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4300 2.1GHz 1MB 800 CPU or something similar.
I have found the following information from http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-Satellite-L40-14N-Notebook.7294.0.html
" f you consider a CPU upgrade, there are not many options available. The Intel GL960 express notebook chip set supports only up to 533 Mhz FSB processors. So, most of the up-to-date Core 2 Duo CPUs (with 667MHz) cannot be used. "
But then I have also read that the GL960 can run processors of 800Mhz?.
I also asked the question on ebay from the seller of the T2310 CPU & received this answer
"SHOULD be okay, but your T2310 has 533Mhz FSB and the T4300 has 800Mhz.
Most modern intel motherboards should easily accept an 800mhz cpu, but I cannot guarantee. Might be an idea to see if you can find out if there are other models of Toshiba L40 that also have 800mhz chips, as that would be a good indicator.
And if I can not upgrade too a T2310 because of the 800mhz is their a 533mhz cpu that will be compatible & more powerful for audio production than my current 1.46 Ghz T2310 CPU.
I have only had this PC 4 years from new,it would seem to me to be not very resource friendly if this laptop has not be designed to handle upgrades.
    Thanks for any guidance.

    To quote
'Problem is that CPU upgrade is not supported and all you do is on your own risk.
    Check also http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm"
    Helpful link thanks :-)
Of course any upgrade I did personally would be entirely at my own risk .
So it's not a good idea as mentioned .
I would still like to know if technically it is possible and if so it's most probably been done & maybe works fine, rather then half answers .

Alternatively do you guys have any suggestions, other than buying a new laptop, of ways to increase the performance for music production.
I already have 1.99 GB of ram installed .
Would using a external USB sound card and bypassing the internal sound card give me a little more processing power . I believe it's the real time processing of audio effects etc that make audio production demanding on a cpu.Could that processing somehow be shared with a pro audio card? .
Either way thanks for the help guys :-)

  • Satellite Pro L40 wont boot after changing BIOS settings

Alright changed a few settings in the bios last night and now when I boot I get a black screen lights flash and that hard drive light comes on but nothing on screen.
There was no password on bios,... how would I reset BIOS to normal?
I put a windows disk on I can hear the disk spinning but nothing on the screen
(I think I have come to the right place on the forum)
Its a Toshiba Satellite Pro L40 model psl4be.
    Thanks

    >There was no password on bios,... how would I reset BIOS to normal?
You can set the BIOS to default ONLY inside the BIOS so you have to access the BIOS pressing F2 or at the beginning of the booting order
But I doubt that this problem is related to the BIOS.
Maybe its just a simple bad luck that this issue happened just exactly after changing something in BIOS.
Try to connect an external monitor and check if you can see something on 2nd display.

  • Satellite Pro L40 wont start

When i turn on my Satellite Pro L40 it shows me a screen asking me to start windows repair or start windows normally.
When choosing either option it leads me back to the same screen.
    Does anybody have any ideas?
    Many thanks

    Hi Will
For me it looks like the installed OS was muddled up for non apparent reason
If you are not able to boot in the Windows XP OS and if the repair option doesnt help to boot in the safe mode I dont see any other possibility as to boot from the Toshiba recovery CD and to reinstall the operating system again!
But note; the booting from the recovery CD will format the whole HDD and you will lose all files stored on the HDD. ?
This is a drastic procedure but in my eyes its the only one which could helps to solve this issue.

  • BIOS update issue on Satellite Pro L40-15A - Old BIOS can't recognise EEPROM

    Hi
I'm having trouble flashing my bios.
    I have a Satellite Pro L40-15A.
The Toshiba winflash tool that comes with the bios file tells me that the 'Old BIOS can't recognise EEPROM'
I was recommended to use AFUDOS on another forum but that tells me the bios has an invalid boot block.
AMI flas for dos tells me the flash rom is write-protected??? There is no option in bios to disable it and I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to put a hardware Bios protect jumper on a laptop.
    Please help
    Thx

    Hi and thanks for reply
The 5.10 bios update is only for XP laptops, my one came with windows vista installed so I need v2.20
"old BIOS cannot recognise EEPROM" is the error message i get when i try to flash the bios with the supplied software from Toshiba
    _+UPDATE:+_
New verion of BIOS update has worked!!
    Case could be closed

  • Satellite Pro A300 crashes with blank screen

I have a Satellite Pro A300, AMD CPU, ATI graphics, Vista.
The system worked fine for a year but a few months ago it started crashing, the screen went blank, not blue, anything running, like music, stopped. This can happen after several hours or minutes, or even whilst it is re-booting. All my software is up-to-date, both from Microsoft and Toshiba. I have rebuilt my system from scratch and the symptoms came back.
At first I thought this might be a heat problem but I have monitored this but I don't think this is it. It has crashed seconds after leaving sleep mode when it has not had a chance to warm up.
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Simon

    Hi buddy,
Theoretically it could be an overheating problem so the screen went blank due built in overheat protection...
You should try to clean your notebook using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and therefore its not necessary to disassemble the notebook.
In your case I would recommend reading this article:

  • Satellite Pro L100 crashes when loaded with 2 x 1GB Ram

    Hi,
Satellite Pro L100 - came with 512MB ram - Too slow - expanded using 2 x 1GB ram from crucial technology, speed 555MHz
When both 1GB installed, laptop crashes on the XP boot screen - then loops, crashes, loops, crashes etc...
Tried alternating the slots and using ram independantly - No change - so ruled out faulty ram
Tried shippped memory with 1 x expanded 1GB ram - All OK.
Tried every orientation conceivable - just crashes when expanded ram is loaded to its specificed max - 2GB.
Upgraded BIOS to 3.2 - no change
Does anyone here have any other suggestions? I fear my last resort is to dig deep and get more ram from a diff OEM, prefer not to hence asking politely for help
    Thanks in advance,

    Have you ran Memtest?
Download the bootable Memtest CD ISO from www.memtest.org and run it for a few passes.

  • Premier Pro CC Crashing Frequently

Hello, I am having an issue in Premear Pro Creative Cloud, the software has become extreamly unstable and is cashing too frequently to be usable.
I am editing a project cosnisting mainly of R3D files in a 1080p R3D sequence.  The project files are all stored on an external Laci Rugged connected to the machean vai USB3.0.  The project file is on the desktop of the machean.  I am editing on a Mac book Air with 4Gb memory and a 1.8Ghz i5 processor, however I ahve tried moving the project to two additional macheans (One other Mac and one PC) and had no change in the issue.  One of these computers was also on a differant creative cloud subsription.
The error message I receve is the standard "Sorry, a serious error has occured that require Adoby Premear pro to shut down..." no further details are provided.
However when the program crashes from playing a clip from the bins I do receve an additional error message (this one with the yellow alert icon instead on the premear pro logo) that reads.
"Premear Pro has incountered an error."
    followed by
    [/sirreel64/releases/2013.02/shared/adobe/MediaCore/Backend/Make/Mac/../../Src/Clip/AudioC lip
    .cpp-959]
I have no idea what that file extension is and the file does not exist on this computer, the same error message poped up on the other computers, the file did not exist on them either.
The program crashes frequently when the following actions are taken.
A subclip is played from the bin
More than one clip in the timeline is selected
More than one subclip is dragged from the bins to the timeline
The program also crashes less frequently when non of these actions are taken, seemingly at randome.
I have also tried editing the project from a differant HDD via thunderbolt and had no change.
Any and all help is greatly appreseated, on the clock for this project.

Please start a new thread, bouzaidiy, providing as much information as possible about your computer, the exact version of Premiere you have, your project/sequence(s)/content, and what you're doing when Premiere crashes. Also include crash reports and error messages. This page recommends other good data to provide: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
But first, try searching the forum for something specific, such as keywords in the error message (if it's not just the generic "Premiere Pro has encountered an error and must close), or the "faulting module" cited in the crash log.

  • Satellite Pro L100 - Crash during Bios update

    Hi
    I own a Satellite Pro L100 (PSLA4E)
From the Toshiba site I downloaded the BIOS update. Whilst installing it I read that it needed power cable plugged in. Before I could cancel it to get the cable it had started and then froze! The computer stopped working and so I turned it off! Since then I have read that, that was a very big mistake!
When turning it on the fan turns on and I can hear the cd drive spinning etc. After 15 seconds, which the screen is blank, the computer starts beeping!
Is there any way of fixing this?
    Thanks very much
    Rich

    Hi Richard
Looks not good buddy according to your description something went wrong during the update procedure and now the ROM module was not flashed correctly.
Maybe you area lucky man and the motherboard is not damage but only the Rom module must be flashed again.
Unfortunately, this must be done by ASP technician. You will have to contact the ASP in your country for a help.
Good luck and have a nice day
