Satellite Pro L550-17U PSLW9E - Win 7 64bit HDD recovery question

Hi,
Basically when I recieved the laptop it had the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed.
I created the backup disks as requested but the first disk got scratched and gets stuck on the install, I can install the 32 bit version (the CD it came with) and I've tried to create a new recovery disk via the 32 bit system but this just creates a 32 bit recovery disk (which I already had the proper disk).
Just seeing if there is any way to restore the 64 bit system without having to buy a new version of windows?
Satellite Pro L550-17U

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery) and
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (Toshiba-Recovery DVD)

Hi buddy,
The recovery disk that was delivered with your notebook contains *only* Windows 7 32bit version. That means if you install this version, you are able to create 32bit recovery disk but not 64bit. Therefore you would need the 64bit recovery disk.
In my opinion you can do nothing without ordering a 64bit recovery disk. Such disks can be ordered here:

I hope I could help you a little bit. :)

  • Suggestions for new laptop - Maybe Satellite Pro L550-17U

Wasn't sure where to ask this so it's here in the General category.
I'm looking for a replacement laptop with a few specific requirements. I can get most of them but the last one is proving difficult. So the requirements are:
17" screen with at least 1600 horizontal resolution.
Minimum of 4Gb RAM (8 would be nice)
    Run 64-bit Windows 7
    Bluetooth
    and finally, the cruncher:
    Supports Intel VT (Virtualization Technology)
I thought the Satellite Pro L550-17U would be OK, but looking at the Intel site, it doesn't seem that the T6570 processor supports VT. And it would have to be supported in the BIOS anyway, and nothing in the spec says it will.
Anybody able to provide any help please? I'd like to stick with Toshiba, as I've had such great reliability from them, but would consider other makes (sorry Toshiba) if that's the only option.
    Roger

    Thanks for your reply.
In answer to your first question, as little as I can get away with:). I'm expecting to pay over 600GBP, but certainly won't go over 1000.
As to your 2nd question, general office plus development work, and occasionally connecting to external screens for presentations. My aim is to run Windows 7 Ultimate with the current versions of MS Office, Visual Studio and Expression Studio and then upgrade those versions when the repacements are out, I also need to run older versions of Windows (XP, Vista) and Office (XP, 2003), hence the VT requirement.
Going back to your other comment, what isn't 'best' about the L model? I was looking at specs and not really considering the model.

  • Satellite Pro L550 - WLAN doesn't work after new Installation Win 7/64 Pro

    Hi,
I installed a real Win 7 / 64 professional full version on my Sat Pro L550-199, PSLW9E. Now I can't switch on my WLAN. The big FN-bottons doesn't exist. I tried lots of driver I found on the Toshiba Support page.
Whitch is the right, or is Win 7 / 64 professional not supported with WLAN?
How I can switch on WLAN without the FN-Key?
    Lenny

    Hi Lenny-27-7,
Is your WLAN card installed properly in device manager? It must be listed under network devices without yellow exclamation marks. So you can make sure that WLAN card is installed.
For all FN keys you have to install Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both tools can be downloaded on official Toshiba page where you can find the WLAN driver too:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
If you have installed everything you can start with WLAN configuration :)

    http://www.amd.com/us/products/notebook/graphics/ati-mobility-hd-5165/Pages/hd-5165-specs.aspx
HDMI output support all display resolutions up to 1920x1080
    >So toshiba thinks, that is possible to use analog (D-SUB) with 2048x1536 !!!!!!!!
This chip support two integrated DVI display outputs 18-, 24-, and 30-bit digital displays at all resolutions up to 1920x1200 (single-link DVI) or 2560x1600 (dual-link DVI)
VGA output supports analog displays connected by VGA at all resolutions up to 2048x1536
Means that all these resolutions depend on the available display output!!!

  • Satellite Pro L550-13M - cannot run HD product recovery

I have a new Toshiba Satellite Pro L550-13M running Windows 7 and I fired it up this morning and it said Windows could not start and went into startup repair.
The last thing I did with it was last night, when I ran RegistryBooster2 and it cleaned up the registry. I've used this utility loads of times with this and previous notebooks and it's been fine. I guess it's caused the problem though. It backs up the registry, but I can't restore that because I can't boot up!
So, after rebooting a few times, it eventually said "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically". If I view the diagnostic and repair details, the log lists all these tests, but says they have completed successfully. I'm on repair attempt 38. During one of them, startup repair said it was fixing a registry problem.
If I try to view the advanced options for system recovery, and select a UK keyboard, I get this message:
"You must log in to access System Recovery Options"
and my only option is to click an OK button to restart.
    So, I'm stuck.
I got a Windows 7 recover CD and running startup repair on that comes up with no errors!
However, because the notebook is so new, I haven't created any restore points or recovery disks (didn't have any blank DVDs at the time).
The notebook has a HDD recovery partition, but I can't run the recovery disk to access that option because of the "you must log in" thing above.
I'm stuck!!!!! Anyone out there with any ideas?
    Extra details:
Can't boot in safe mode. Last known good configuration doesn't work. All roads lead to startup repair.
Attempt 38 has this in the startup repair log:
    Root cause found:
Startup Repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem.
I can use the Windows 7 recovery CD to get a command prompt and view C: and D: (where the HD recovery files are), but I don't know what to do from there.
The CD isn't for a Toshiba, so it doesn't list HD recovery as an option. I can only use it to run startup repair (which reports no problems) or get a command prompt.

I really don't understand what is wrong there.
The fact is that your notebook model was delivered with Win7 and HDD recovery image.
That means with factory settings this HDD recovery (as described in document) must work.
Unfortunately you didn't explain to us what happen when you press F8 at boot-up.
Can you enter Advanced boot options?
Is repair my computer option available?
This non-Toshiba recovery CD will not help you at all. HDD recovery option can be started just as described in the document.
Do you still have Factory settings (preinstalled image you got with your notebook) or you have maybe installed own Win7 version?

  • Installing WXP on new Satellite Pro L550

    Hi,
I have a new Sat Pro L550 and need to downgrade to XP. If I want to go back to Windows 7 in future can I?
    Thanks, Lisa

    Hello Lista
In my opinion you should look forward and start to use newest operating system Windows7. It is really good operating system, well done and runs with good performance on Toshiba notebooks.
Please note that you have newest notebook model with newest hardware designed for Win7 standards.
Yes you can install Win7 anytime you want.
Win7 is fully supported and you will not have problems with it.
To go back on WXP has no much sense for me except you want to use some old software designed for WXP only.
Anyway, which notebook model do you have exactly (L550-xxx)?

  • Satellite Pro A300-1H2 - Windows does not recognise HDD

    Hi,
i'm a newbie, this has probably bin asked before so if it has you'l have to excuse me, i have a satellite pro A300-1h2.
I got the blue screen unmountable boot volume, so have tried to fit a new samsung drive. I put in my windows disc it loads all the drivers then says there is no hard disc?
In bios it recognises it ???
    Thanks if anyone can help

    Hi
The problem is that your notebook supports the HDD SATA controller but the OS system does not contain the SATA drivers
You could set in BIOS the SATA mode to compatible.
This will allows you to install the OS without the installation of SATA drivers.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - Is MS Office is on the recovery disc

    Hi,
This is my first time on this forum and I have limited technical knowledge - please be gentle!!
I have a Satellite Pro L20 laptop which is now 4 years old (I got it in Nov 2005).
It has been running extremely slowly over the past year so I removed any software that I no longer use, have backed up any files that I needed to keep and defragmented the hard drive.
I haven't really noticed any difference in the speed, I understand that I can now try to format the hard drive and reinstall windows using the Product Recovery disc.
When I first had the laptop, all I needed to do was press the power button, enter in a couple of passwords and a computer name and it all very nicely loaded with Office 2003 waiting there for me to use!
Could anyone tell me if Office is on the recovery disc?
It says that One Note 2003 is there and I have a code for that, but doesn't mention Word, Excel, Publisher or PowerPoint - these I use daily.
I've looked on the Additional Software disc that also came with the laptop and it doesn't seem to be on there.
Your help will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello
As Jimi said Microsoft Office is not preinstalled on Toshiba notebooks. Maybe its a trial version but not the full version and One Note 2003 is not the same as Office 2003.
Dont forget that the product key on the bottom side of the notebook belongs to the Windows version and its not for Office because sometimes I can read here that people try to use this key with Office. ;)

  • Satellite Pro 2100; How to recover additional software without recovery CD?

How can I recover the bundled WinDVD and Drag'n Drop CD software for my Satellite Pro 2100 without the recovery disk?
    Message was edited by: yirms

This is not possible because this additional software is not available on the Toshiba download page why?
Because this is not a Toshiba software but software from 3rd party manufacturers.
This software is bundled with Recovery disk and can be used only with your notebook!
I think this has something to do with the licence issues

  • Satellite T135 How to enter Safe Mode and HDD Recovery if "F8" doesn't work

    Hello everybody
I have a Toshiba Satellite T135 Laptop and it has recently crashed. Since then, every time I switch it on, Startup Repair automatically gets enabled. But it fails repairing the error.
I tried to resolve the problem with System Restore, but that didn't work either. So I think I have to go through the HDD recovery procedure.
The problem is, that I have a lot of data on my laptop that I need to safe first. I wanted to do this via Safe Mode which I supposedly should be able to enter by pressing "F8" while initializing, when the Windows logo appears. But my laptop doesn't react when I press F8, but rather begins to make a alerting sound, if I press the button for a longer time.
Apart from how to enter safe mode when pressing F8 while initializing doesn't work, I do have a second question: Is Toshiba Recovery Wizard the equivalent for HDD Recovery Procedure? That's the only similar option I've been able to find...
Thank you very much for your advice.

    Hi buddy,
Yes, the Toshiba HDD recovery option will wipe the *first* partition of HDD. Thats the partition where Windows is installed so all files on this partition will be deleted to restore the original out of box settings. If you have stored the data on this partition they will be deleted but all data on second partition will not be deleted.
You can perform a backup if you buy an external HDD case as MisterX suggested. Put the notebook HDD into this case and connect it to another computer. Then you can back up all files that you need. :)

  • Satellite R630 - Driver issues on Win 7 64bit after SP1 upgrade

    Need your help here guys,
My Satellite R-630 is less than a year old, running a Windows 7 Home Premium on 64 bit. For a while, I have been experiencing BSOD's, which I traced through the Event Viewer to here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd337789(WS.10).aspx
This did not lead me far enough.
Finally, I concluded through other forums that the SP1 upgrade would solve some of the annoying BSOD issues and I launched the download and upgrade. However, on restart, while my laptop seems to have been cured (so far) of the BSOD's, I have issues with drivers for:
    - Sound Card
    - USB Controllers
    - DVD Player
    - Webcam
    - Bus Enumerators
I have downloaded the indicated Win 7 - 64 bit drivers in each case. I tried installing them first. Nothing happened. I uninstalled the existing drivers, and installed them again. Nothing happened again.
I figured I must be doing things in the wrong order.
    So I tried installing
1). the Chip Set Utility (drivers?) first, then
    2). the USB drivers
    3). Sound card drivers etc.
    Nothing is happening still.
I am running out of ideas here.
P.S While all the other drivers executed fine when I extracted them from the .zip format, the Sound card driver refused to execute, even though the "run command" box was ticked when the .msi file was run.
I extracted it into a folder and ran it manually.
    Still didn't help.

That's where I got things wrong I think. I did not use the windows automatic update, because it kept saying connection was unsuccessful.
What happened is it identified a component of the SP1 as a "critical update", a 900 mb chunk (listed as windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5842 ) but would not download it. It failed every time. So I went on the windows download centre, looked up for the same component and installed it manually. Right now windows update turned green with the tick and says everything is fine.
I will try to restore my settings to the former configuration and let you know. I was about to try that last night, but I didn't see any restore date prior to the SP1 installation. I'll try this right now.
--*Edit:* So system restore isn't working. There is only one restore point that's prior to the SP1 installation. I've tried 3 times already. Every time it tells me that it could not access a file, probably because of antivirus. I use Avira. I disabled it the second time. Still same message. I uninstalled it completely for the 3rd trial, same message again.--
--So system restore isn't an option. Could it be that I missed a component that would be required for some drivers to work properly after the update?--
*Edit*: In all my troubles, I forgot an elementary step: run system restore in Safe Mode. Which I did. Now my system is back to before SP1, sound, usb connectivity working. I suppose everything is back where it should be. I'll just wait and see if i get a BSOD again and come back here if need be.
    Thanks guys.

  • Satellite Pro C50: Installation of Win 7 using UEFI boot mode

I want to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on Sat Pro C50 (downgrade if you like - supplied with Win 8), but I want it UEFI booting, with GPT partitioning.
I am happy to wipe existing partitions if that solves problem.
    I _have_ disabled Secure Boot.
    Booting Win 8 install DVD works;
Setting CSM boot and booting from Win 7 DVD works - but this isn't what I want.
Setting back to UEFI boot and boot Win7 install media - locks up at "Starting Windows" screen.
Media _is_ good, works OK on other manufacturers' PCs.
I am not convinced this is a Microsoft problem.

    Hi
On Toshiba notebooks where UEFI BIOS is available, its necessary to disable secure boot and to change the boot mode to CSM in order to boot from external sources and to install other systems than Win 8 or Win 8.1
Some workarounds in the internet describes the installation of Windows 7 in UEFI mode but I doubt this will be possible on Toshiba notebooks since the BIOS is different and modified for each notebook series.

  • Satellite C55-A-199 with Win 7 64bit - cannot enable WiFi

    Hi,
I have some problem with the wifi in my Toshiba Satellite C55-A-199.
I have downloaded and installed every drivers that I could find on the [website|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp] but I am still not able to turn off the wifi by pressing fn+f12.
When I press fn+f12 the bluetooth can be switch on/off but the wifi symbol doesn't appear on the screen, and the red led at the front keeps lighting.
I don't know what could be the problem, but I hope I'll get some help here.

    Hi everybody,
_Thanks a lot Randy, doing what you said helped me solved the issue_ with my newly Satellite C55-A-1P2, but unfortunately I have discovered an even bigger issue.
I think this thread is probably not the right place to say my problem but I haven't found to much info regarding the issue. :(
If I'm allowed here this is what I'm encountering with the Wi-Fi adapter:
My Wi-Fi adapter (Qualcomm Atheros AR956x I think this is the one) is frequently disconnecting, stays disconnected for a minute or so and after that is reconnecting. For me that is a very big issue as I'm a heavily Wi-Fi user. I do have the latest driver installed from Toshiba site and using windows 7 ultimate 64-bit.
If anybody has any idea on how to solve this issue or if it's even solvable(if this is the case I need to return the laptop) or redirect me to another post related to Wi-Fi disconnections I will be forever grateful.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Satellite A300-1FP - Chicony webcam Win 7 64bit - driver open failed

    Greetings
I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit on my Toshiba Satellite A300-1FP. I was surprised at how smoothly it went. The only thing that was missing was a Windows 7 driver for the Chicony Webcam. A number of people on these forums have suggested using the Vista 64 bit driver. I tried numerous times to make this work. I deleted the startup entry, deleted and resinstalled the driver from device manager, etc. Everything I have found on these forums I've tried.
None of it works. I continue to get the error message "Webcam driver open failed. Please restart camera or computer."
Even with the "camera assistant" the Chicony camera is really awful. Had I know before I bought the machine I would have chosen otherwise. Too late now. Without the assitant you have only the driver that comes with Windows 7 which allows you to use the camera but unless you have Hollywood quality lighting the video is so dark that it is nearly unusable. The "camera assistant" at least had a booster for darker rooms.
I don't know why Toshiba ever used this camera in the first place.
There are many people with this same exact problem who are looking for help in the various forums for their system.
If anyone knows how to handle this I would really appreciate hearing from you. Toshiba, if you're listening, what were you thinking?
    Dave

    Hello
Just a little question: Have you tried this?
[Why an error message displayed "Webcam driver open fail. Restart camera or computer"?|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=18]
Furthermore it would be interesting to know if the same happens with factory settings. Can you check this please?
