Satellite Z30 vs Portege Z30

From what I can tell (and have confirmed with Toshiba Customer support) the Satellite Z30 is identical to the Portege Z30 except for the following differences:
* The Portege Z30 has Active Management Technology (AMT), allowing certain remote administration for enterprise environments
* The Portege Z30 has a 3 year warranty (as opposed to the Satellite's 1 year)
* The Portege Z30 is preinstalled with Windows 7 and Windows 7 system restore partitions (and Windows 8.1 media provided) whereas the Satellite comes preinstalled with Windows 8.1 system and restore partitions
My question is whether the roll out of an image taken from a Portege Z30's Windows 7 installation will transfer to Satellite Z30 machines? I suspect there will be no issues with the hardware, but am curious about the Windows activation and whether the SLP key on the Satellites will match the Portege.

I don't have time to check exact difference because these two models because notebooks are country specific products and it can happen that offer in your country is not the same as in some other and you can check this by your local dealer.
Anyway, at first I must say that that Portege notebooks are business line products. Satellite models are more for people who don't have some special needs and mostly common notebook users.
With Portege line Toshiba offers some benefits like better hardware, more options, very often two operating systems, maybe some additional software and of course different warranty conditions.
According to this Portege notebooks are more expensive.
Back to your question: recovery image is specific image designed for certain notebook model.
I don't know which Portege do you mean exactly. Toshiba offers Z30-A and Z30T-A. For instance Z30-A is offered as 6 different models. You know it is not easy to say how it will works.
Theoretically you can try to install this image and see what will happen.
I don't know if you will be so lucky to find someone here who can confirm that such installation will be 100% OK.

  • Portege Z30-A-18M - cannot set native resolution on external display

    Hi,
I have tried to connect two different full HD displays to my Portege Z30-A-18M and I was unable to set the native resolution - maximal resolution that I can set for those is 1680x1050... I wasn't so surprised with the first one as I had some troubles with native resolution when I was connecting it to the Satellite laptop that I had before. But then the same happened when I tried the other display.
I thought that this laptop can handle higher external resolution... Is there a way how to force the native resolution for the external diplays in Windows 7?
    Thanks!

Well, I wanted to use it as extended desktop... But I tried now to set it only to external device and I am still getting 1680x1050 as max
Just a note, the first display was connected with analog (D-SUB) and the second with digital (HDMI) ...
Is there a way how to override the maximum and set my own custom resolution?

  • Cannot connect 2 external monitors via port replicator using Portege Z30-16U

    Hi All
I need hell I just moved from a other laptop to the Portege Z30-16U, I have spent hours trying to connect my 2 external monitors to my Hi-Speed Port replicator III 120W but my laptop will only see one monitor.
I have been using 2 external monitors with my laptop for yrs as I do a lot or reading and I do not want to use only one and the laptop screen.
I have tried VGA cables and mix of a VGA and a HDMI but nothing is working.
Can anyone tell me how I can connect and view 2 external monitors with this laptop and port replicator, I cannot believe it is not possible it would make no sense that Toshiba would be so technilogically behind other laptop manufacturers.
    Thanks
    Liga

    Hi
I am not familliar with the Portreplicator of Z30, but the general behaviour of the dual-displayconnector replicators is that 1 can be used.
    Not 2 simultaneously.
I may be wrong and you should easily be able to check this - use only 1 at a time.
    First one, then the other.
If both works when used alone, then my suspicion is right.
    Hope this helps!

  • What is the keyboard part number for Portege Z30-A-1E5?

    Hello,
I want the Toshiba Portege Z30-A-1E5, but it is apparently only available to buy from German and Austrian vendors with the QWERTZ keyboard. I would like to buy one and swap over the keyboard to either AZERTY or QWERTY (UK).
However I spoke with a company that does this and they cannot confirm that they can get a part unless I can provide them with a keyboard part number (they also can't give me a quote without it), but this number does not seem to be easy to get a hold of without actually having the computer and taking the keyboard off and looking underneath! I feel a bit nervous spending so much money when there is a chance that I won't be able to swap the keyboard over.
So my question is, can anybody tell me what the keyboard part number is for the portege z30-a-1e5?
Any assistance would be much appreciated!!!!!
    Kate

    Hi Kate
Im wondering why you want to purchase a Portege Z30-A-1E5 which isnt available in UK?
The notebooks are preinstalled with a Windows system in different languages. In case of Portege Z30-A-1E5 available in Germany, the system language would be German.
Also the keyboard supports different layout.
Portege Z30-A-1E5 was equipped with an i7 CPU, 512GB SSD drive and 16GB RAM.
Very similar notebook Portege Z30-A-1D6 was released in UK. Its preinstalled with Windows system in English language and English keyboard layout.
Of course the hardware specifications are a little bit lower (256GB SSD drive and 8GB RAM) but I think this could be upgraded much easier as to replace the keyboard.
However, in case you would purchase the Portege Z30-A-1E5, I recommend you to contact the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for keyboard replacement. The guys could order the right keyboard from Toshiba and could perform the replacement.
Just one note: the replacement should be done by authorized service provider because of warranty validity. The replacement must be performed by authorized engineer to keep the warranty valid.

  • Fingerprint Utility on Portege Z30-A-12Q is not working

    Hello,
I need help regarding this issue :
I performed a fresh windows 8.1 install, the same version as before, but this time i chose UEFI over BIOS. When i used BIOS the fingerprint sensor was working fine, but now it says "Failed to connect to the sensor".
I am using Toshiba Portege Z30-A-12Q i5-4200 256 GB SSD, or the PT243E model. I searched the forums and i found a issue similar with another Toshiba R product which was resolved by adding a firewall exception.
I added fingerprint utility in firewall exception, even disabled firewall all the way, but still the same problem. Also in device manager i have under Biometric devices Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0010).
I also checked in BIOS to see if it it enabled and it is.
The only thing i changed in BIOS are Secureboot (made it on) and chose CSM (for UEFI), but i think these settings have no relevance to the problem since they are used for booting.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver 3 times.
Please help me with this problem.
    Thank you very much,
    Andrei Chitescu

This is very interesting : what do you mean by "Installed the chipset driver two times" ?
I have exactly the same problem with a Portg R30A-19Q.
Changed over from Win 7 to Win 8.1 (one of the worst decisions in my life ! What a disappointment !
Productivity down by a factor 3 or 4 ! But this is another subject !).
Tried to reinstall the fingerprint recognition, which did not accept my fingerprints (because "already used on another account").
Called French technical support, who recommended uninstalling the fingerprint recognition software, which would erase my previous Win 7 fingerprints, left over in the BIOS.
Then after reinstalling the software, it did not work any better.
Called again technical support, who gave me a "confidential" link to a fingerprint clean up software, that would remove the fingerprints left over in the BIOS.
This did not work either, because the installation could not find ATWBFClient.dll.
Called again technical support, and was told that there was no other solution than reinstalling Win7, then erasing my fingerprints under Win 7, then reinstalling Win 8.1, and recreating new fingerprints ! What a nightmare !
If anything can be done Under Win 8.1, I shall try ten times !
    Thanks !

  • Password locked Portege Z30-A-10Z - BIOS needed.

Anyone have a back up bios for a Portege Z30-A-10Z laptop.
My laptop bios has locked me out with password and need to program a new bios chip with new bios.
I cant prove ownership with Toshiba with original receipt so they wont help as I purchased it from ebay a wile back and the seller is no longer registered :(

It is very stupid situation now. If your notebook is locked by BIOS password you have big problem now and nobody here can help you. BIOS password must be removed by authorized service provider.
BIOS password is very important security feature so any problem with locked machine must be handled by ASP. There are several different methods for BIOS password removal and it has nothing to do with BIOS backup or some kind of new BIOS installation.

  • Re: Portege Z30-A - Bios update 3.80-WIN using Win 7 64bit

    Hi,
    I have a Toshiba Portege Z30-A
Maybe someone was able to perform the upgrade bios in windows 7 64 bit?

I upgraded to 3.70 EC 1.4 as soon as I got hands on my Z30t-A and when I noticed the 3.80 was available I downloaded the zip file. None of the 15 files has started the upgrade process.
I run Windows 8.1, but the BIOS upgrade should function the same as for WIN 7.
Toshiba must have forgotten to add a setup.exe or something.
I haven't seen a release note, but I'm a big fan of fresh software.

  • Extended battery for Portege Z30-ASMBN22

I see all the new trends since I bought my last Portege involve integrated batteries.
I really, really, really hate that.
For those of us who travel lot and are always running down the battery with no opportunity to recharge regularly and top off, the concept of wearing out a non-replaceable battery (which is just what is going to happen) just fills me with dread. I don't like being put in a position where options vanish. Plus, a second or extended battery can really provide extra juice when you needed, apart from the issue of wrecking the built-in one.
Is there ANY OTHER solution here with this model of Portege? For example, a battery sheet? Something that will allow extending the battery? I think overall, otherwise, I'd rather get an older, inferior model that has replaceable batteries.

I share your distaste for Toshiba's current trend of manufacturing laptops with batteries "not user replaceable". I certainly wouldn't knowingly buy one.Your only alternative is to buy a model that still uses batteries easily removed and replaced.

  • Portege Z30 - unable to enter bios setup

    Hi,
I am unable to enter the BIOS setup upon boot. Pressing F2 allows me to enter both master and HDD/SDD password (validation confirmed), but the screen freezes at the "Toshiba Setup Utility" graphics without any progress.
This problem started to appear quite suddenly, I did enter the BIOS setup several times before without any issue. The only change that happened as far as I know is a failed suspend/resume event.
My suspicion is that the laptop is now in the hi-speed boot regime. Can anyone confirm that? Is there any way to force it to normal boot at the boot time? I am running Linux so I cannot use the Windows utilities from Toshiba.

    > I am running Linux so I cannot use the Windows utilities from Toshiba.
Thats bad :( within the Toshiba HW Setup you would find a setting to change the boot speed option.
    > My suspicion is that the laptop is now in the hi-speed boot regime. Can anyone confirm that?
Hmm in my opinion if boot speed would be set to fast, you would not be able to press F2 and to input the BIOS password.
However, in other cases if boot mode was set to fast, you could enter the BIOS pressing firstly INS button and then F2 button
    Try it out.

  • M.2 connector in Portg Z30-A?

    So, I have ordered myself a Z30-A-189.
In this review of its big brother Z30-A-12U they show a picture of the exposed motherboard:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-Portege-Z30-A-12U-Notebook.108290.0.html
Am I crazy, or do I spot a M.2 connector beneath the WiFi card?
To me it looks like an "M key" connector with 4x PCIe 3.0 lanes, or am I wrong?
I really hope that I'm not crazy. At some point when NAND Flash finally gets retired and we start to see some propper fast and small SSDs, having a 32Gb/s SSD connector seems like a godsend!

Just for reference that is indeed a M.2 connector, it's also only for SINGLE sided 2242 boards (i.e. no SSD's fit, but the 3G/4G WWAN module fits because it's single sided).
The other M.2 connector is a B type for double sided 2230 boards (i.e. the intel wireless nic).
At the moment I don't know if SATA and/or PCI-E is wired, USB is wired because the WWAN modules uses the USB pins. Also I don't know if even if SATA and/or PCI-E is wired the bios/efi room has support for any modules other than the WWAN module.
On the positive side I think there is space enough for using an M.2 extension cable with a full 2280 board attached (albeit secured either with glue or insulating tape). In case it's only useful if the socket is SATA and/or PCI-E wired and the BIOS/EFI supports it.

  • Wifi problems Portge Z30

    Hi everyone,
I have a Toshiba Portege Z30 from 1 year ago, and almost since the beggining I've had some issues with the wifi. It works fine, and suddenly it stops working. The icon shows no change, but surfing internet and downloads become really slooooow. I just turn off the wifi and turn on again, and it works fine till next time it happens. It happens just sometimes...
Does anyone have a similar problem with his Toshiba?

    Hi
Does it happen using battery power or did you notice this WiFi issue using the notebook connected to mains power.
From my point of few the WiFi performance could be affected by some power saving settings which you could set in Microsoft Advanced power settings.
You should check this choose the power plan you are currently using and go to Advanced settings. Here you should check the available WiFi options and should set for both modes (batter / mains power) performance.
    Feedback would be appreciated.

  • Some questions about the z30

    Hello all,
I'm thinking about buying the Portege Z30-AST3NX1and I hope someone here with the same or similar model can answer a couple of questions. (the first one is the most important for me)
    1. I read very negative reviews about its speakers, and indeed I have a very ban memory from the speakers I has on on a Toshiba netbook some years ago. My question is - how bad is it ? can you watch a movie or tv show when the laptop is on your lap ? or is it too weak for that ?
    2. When you insert an sd card doe's it stick out or can you leave it there comfortably and use it to expand the storage ?
    3. Speaking about storage from your experience on a windows 8 system after installing office and other everyday software, how much space is left ?
    Thanks

you might want to consider the R30 model..  you can get a faster CPU (up to I7-4700MQ 6M cache) and the speakers are bigger..

  • Z30 weird issues

Well as I have already mentioned about bluetooth and wifi issues with my 3 day old bb z30 sta 5.  I feel my cell phone is totally avoiding any kind of data signals. For example when I start or reset the phone my phone's 3g works for  2 mins and after that its totally gone. What could be the problem.?  . I have never ever seen these kind of issues with any of my past phones.  Also when I run ussd code like *111#  it simply doesnt do anything. When I check phone storage the small circle keeps on rotating and nothing happens but when I check media card storage  it shows at once.  Please help me , what could be the problem.? Also can the wifi be repaired.? I have heard that Wifi module is inside the processor itself .?  Please help me

my z30 connects to wifi fine but sometimes when it "wakes" back up it has an error saying something is wrong with the internet connection which prevents me connecting to anything. Only solution is to turn wifi off then back on again. All the other devices connected to router work fine
    Any ideas on solution?]

  • Blacberry 10.3 release for z30 in Singapore

I am keen to try the 10.3 OS on my z30. While the OS has been released in US, there is no availability of the new OS in Singapore.
Would you know the expected release date for 10.3 OS for Z30.

Hi @akdwivedi! Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
OS 10.3 has been released with the BlackBerry Passport and P'9983 not the Z30 or any other early BlackBerry 10 devices.

The Z30 will not receive the 10.3 update. It will receive the 10.3.1  build. It will start rolling out on early February, subject to carrier approval.
