Save As Dialog Different on Exit vs. File - Save As...

I started by opening a raw file through Camera Raw into a 16 bits/channel document. My intent was to edit it a little and save as a JPEG.
Photoshop CS5 Adobe added the ability to save a 16 bits/channel document as a JPEG, without first having to convert to 8 bits/channel. BRAVO Adobe! It's been great.
However that functionality is specifically missing if one tries to exit Photoshop CS5 with an unsaved document. Quite a lot of stuff is missing from the Save dialog that pops up there, actually. It's like some kind of minimalist version. Why?

I understand your thinking - you're trying to watch out for the newbie user and trying not to lose his/her layers, etc.
The thing is, the way it is now makes it just a bit harder for a power-user who knows what he's doing to use Photoshop. I've always disliked features that dumb systems down in the guise of protecting the less technical user at the expense of power. This is not Photoshop Elements, after all!
My case in point: I opened a raw file, Camera Raw automatically applied the settings I had chosen and which the software had stored, I downsized the opened image, and wanted to save it as a JPEG. It had no layers or other "fancy" attributes other than the fact that I always open raw files into 16 bits/channel depth (and I wouldn't want to change THAT default). Since I don't, as a habit, leave applications open, I thought I would just close Photoshop and save the JPEG on the way out. The dialog shown above defaulted to PSD, as I expected, but simply didn't allow me the choice to change it to JPEG. So instead of just being able to blaze through the work in the quickest way, I had to cancel that dialog, choose File - Save As, then exit...
Break in concentration and extra steps for the user who knows what he's doing.
It seems to me that the act of prompting him on exit with a Save As dialog is all the notification needed that document information could be lost, and the user actively changing to another (lossy) format is the user's own confirmation that he/she knows what he/she is about to do.
The more powerful Save As dialog just as it is today would be a perfect match for this. It's a logical outgrowth of Save As A Copy, and the new feature where you're now allowing Save As JPEG directly from a 16 bit file. By using the same dialog at the same time as making the product more powerful, you could simplify the implementation and save some future maintenance cost.

Here's my favorite scenario:
1. User clicks button
2. Save As dialog displays
3. User chooses location
4. A set of PDF files download to that location OR a single zip file downloads
Background:
I want to ensure the user sees that files are being downloaded. I'm delivering content to users who may not be Web savvy.
Concern:
1. User has no clue how to find downloaded files or that files have even downloaded.
2. I'd like to deliver the set as zip files. Not sure if self-opening zip files still exist.
FYI:
I'm using jQuery UI buttons. Not sure if that factors into response.

Just for clarity, I'm not forcing a download. The user will click a button.

Save As dialog issues: won't choose file format

The file formats seem to be all jumbled in the Save As dialog box. If I choose TIFF, I get EPS files. If I choose JPEG, I get .CFM files, etc.

You're on MacOS, and you either copied plugins from a previous version of Photoshop, or set the additional plugins preference to point to a previous version of Photoshop.
Go remove the plugins you copied, or turn off that preference.
You should not try to use all the plugins from a previous version of Photoshop.
Now, the bug comes about because the menu in the save dialog doesn't like to show duplicate items (which would happen because you have duplicate plugins), and we're working on that problem.
But you need to go fix the duplicate plugins first.

Offering the SAVE AS dialog box- No ability to just SAVE.

I've posted about this before and have not gotten an answer. Why - when I try to save my cs6 file - is it only . it happens whether I just press the command/s or if i use the File > Save menu.
Something is wrong here and it's creepy. Can anyone help me figure out what this bug is about?

Save As dialog window disappears when trying to save or use pdf writer

When I try to create a pdf using a pdf writer/printer, or even when i try to save a pdf file, the dialog box showing where to save it appears then immediately disappears before i can choose a name or location to save the pdf. i have tried reinstalling the reader, reooting, reinstalling the pdf writer, nothing seems to work.

I have tried multiple pdf writers including cutepdf and a proprietary pdf writer so I am pretty sure the problem lies within adobe reader. Especially since the problem occurs when I just try to save the pdf and not use the writer.

I asked how to move just one photo from media onto desktop. The reply came back that I should try fild, then save as in the left part of the save as dialog choose desktop and it will save a copy. However, on my PC I do not have a 'save as' choice nor ca

Are you trying moving the file from Elements Organizer?
If yes, select the file, go to File menu and select Move. There you can choose the location where you want to move the files.

How to avoid the "Save As" dialog when using "Close Button"

Hello All,
I am facing a problem while closing a pdf file.
I am using the following code to Open a pdf file.
CAcroApp objAcroApp = new AcroAppClass();
CAcroAVDoc objAVDoc = new AcroAVDoc();
objAVDoc.Open(C:\\new.pdf,Sample);
objAcroApp.Show();
After opening the document I am **** some changes (adding markup) in the file.
Then I am closing the file using the Close Button and in YES for the save confirmation dialog.
Here is the problem.
After giving YES, I am getting a Save As dialog with "Sample.pdf" in the FileName box.
I am getting this only in Acrobat 9.0.
When I tried the same in Acrobat 8.0 I didnt get Save As dialog. It saved with out "Save As" dialog in "C:\\new.pdf".
I need to give the same behavior in both Acrobat 9.0 and 8.0.
Please help me out to fix this issue. Thanks in advance.

In what you have posted, there is no reason it shouldn't work the same way in Acrobat 9. I would recommend that you submit your complete application to developer support.

Acrobat 8 Save-As Dialog

OK, this is really trivial, but to me very annoying. When I save a file from Adobe Acrobat (Pro 8), I almost always go to type a path, e.g.:
c:\books\newbook.pdf
and Acrobat tells me:
"The characters cannot be used in a file name: \/:.." etc
I have to pick up the mouse and navigate to the directory where I want to save the file. I understand what the error message is saying, but why can't I just type a path? I can do that when I OPEN a file, but not when I SAVE one. Surely that's not right?
The help text says:
"Save a copy of a PDF
Choose File > Save As (or Save A Copy, if Save As is not shown).
In the Save As dialog box, enter the filename and *location*, and click Save."
but I am not permitted to enter a "location" (path).
Or is this configurable somewhere?

I'll have to check. Think my work desktop is at AA8.2.4. Maybe that will do it. I just noticed that they have redone the Adobe web site again and a lot of the "dropdown" menus are not dropping down. You have to go through multiple pages now to get the the updates or do a search on the updates! Leave it to web designers to make things difficult.

     I am a newbie to scripting and to be honest it makes my head hurt lol, Kudos to all that make this look easy. I found some good resources but following everything is going to take a bit. I have am using the object model viewer and its a great resource. Long story even longer I am trying to automate a bunch of repetitive tasks that we have to run on a ton of pre-built documents. I have been hobbling together some code that has been working. everything is working and I can worry about cleaning up the code later (for my sake. I have OCD)
I can't seem to find a way to open up the "save as" dialog so that the user can save the document to a directory that will change from week to week. The file name will vary across the run of files. I don't need anything to automate that part. I just want it to pop up and then continue the run. I'd like to do this at the start of the script so that when all the changes are made I can just have the document close. (I haven't included the closing code yet) Is this possible? I cant seem to find anything out there to point me in the right direction.

I've suddenly started getting this issue today on SSMS 2008 with Win 7. I can do Save but as soon as I try Save As the whole thing just locks up. I get a flashing Save icon in the bottom right corner but no Save dialog and all I can do at
that point is close the whole thing down using Task Manager.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Prompting a "Save As" dialog for an accepted mime type

I am using the following code to prompt a "Save As" dialog bod for an xls file:
response.setHeader("Content-disposition","attachment; filename=test.xls");
This does work, it prompts the save as dialog box with the name "test.xls" if i click on save. However if i click on open, it displays an error saying the file could not be found.
Any idea how to specify a custom file name for an accepted mime type?

Ok let me try & be more clear.
I have a JSP page. In this page there is an "Create Excel" link. When this link is clicked, the JSP dynamically creates the data. Then the following code:
response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
response.setHeader("Content-disposition","attachment; filename=test.xls");
This causes the file save dialog box to be created. This dialog box has "open" & "save" options.
When the save option is clicked, the user is prompted to save a file named test.xls. However if the user clicks on the "Open" dialog box, then the file is not opened,i get an error message saying the file does not exist.
If i dont specify the
response.setHeader("Content-disposition","attachment; filename=test.xls");
Then the file save dialog box displays a default filename which is the same as name of my servlet. This works for both Open as well as save options.
I hope i have not confused you further..:)

How I change the save image dialog box view from oldest to newest first as the default?

My save image dialog box has the oldest file in the folder in the upper left position (using list). I want to change it to the newest file shown first. It used to be that way, but now it showing oldest first. I haven't found any guidance on defaults for this box. Thanks.

Leave it to Apple. When I first got the phone, that's the way they were configured. Now that they've flipped around, there's now way to change it!

Deadlock between "Save as" dialog box and another popup window in Firefox

I have only seen this problem with recent versions of Firefox on Mac OS X, and I have run into it several times in the last few months (I am using Firefox 9), where Firefox seems to get into a dead-lock, and I can't find anyway round this except killing and restarting Firefox.
The dead-lock happens when I am in the "Save as" dialog box -- i.e. the popup when I try to save something. If I get a pop-up window warning me that the script on some webpage is unresponsive, this leads to a dead-lock. The reason is this popup expects a response from me -- to stop or let the script continue, but it is unable to accept my response, I assume because the "Save As" dialog box has the focus, but I am unable to continue with the "Save As" dialog (I simply get a beep if I press the save or cancel buttons), presumably because of the "unresponsive" popup is expecting my response.
I don't know if the "unresponsive script" popup happens because I am taking too long with the "Save As" dialog, or if it is prompted by the script from another page (I have many tabs opened)
Is there anyway to get around this without killing the Firefox process? Also, can this problem be fixed so that the dead-lock does not occur?

As I said, the problem is not because Firefox is hanging, or because I cannot save my files. It is happening because the "unrespnsive script" popup is allowed to occur while I am in the "Save As" dialog -- i.e. I have chosen to save something, e.g. a web page, and this prompt the "Save As" dialog, i.e. where I specify the file name and where to save to -- this is working fine.
However, when you are in the "Save As" dialog, the "Save As" window is the only window of Firefox that you can interact with. However, if the "unresponsive script" popup window happens to pop-up when you are inside the "Save As" dialog (which does not occur very often, and I have not encounter it except on recent versions of Firefox o the Mac; I have used Firefox on Windows and Linux for many years), then you get into this dead-lock, because you cannot answer the "unresponsive script" pop-up (i.e to continue or terminate the script), as you cannot interact with the new pop-up window, but at the same time, you cannot continue with the "Save As" dialog -- you can interact with the "Save As" window (i.e. press buttons etc.), but the actions are ignored.
To be clear, what I suspect I am seeing is a bug in the User interface code for the Mac version of Firefox.
I have noticed yesterday that I got an "unresponsive script" pop-up on the Windows version of Firefox immediately after I have finished my "Save As" dialog. I have no way of being certain (unless I look at the code), but my guess is that the "unresponsive script" pop-up was delayed until after I finished the "Save As" dialog on the Windows version, i.e. option 3 in my previous post, but this does not seem to happen on the Mac version.

Reader XI "save" button creates "save as"-dialog in a dynamic PDF

I made a dynamic PDF with LCD ES4. Sometimes it occurs that a "save as"-dialog appears though I pushed the "save"-button. I am using Reader XI 11.0.07 on a Windows 7 Pro system. Suggestions?

This don't seems to be a problem of the form.
It's more likely that Readers save operation fails because the file is used by another process (Exploerers preview pane for example) or there are no rights to save into the current directory.

Why do CS6 tif and jpg files save incorrectly

Mac 10.6.8 with newly installed CS6 has the following problems.
1-tif files save with a pxr extension
2-jpeg files save with an img extension
3-when opening a file "Enable" remains blank even when previously set to "All Readable Documents."

Simple: You have copied plug-ins from an older PS version to CS6 anmd it's messing up your stuff. Remove the offending plug-ins and get updated versions for CS6.
