Save as epub

Is it possible to save Pages documents directly from the iPad app into ePub format?

No, that is only possible with the OS X version of Pages.

    Not one that anyone but Apple uses, no, sorry.
    Use Pages, instead.

  • Cross reference or hyperlinking not working for InDesign CS5 Book to ePub

    I cannot get hyperlinks or cross reference links to work when generating an ePub from InDesign CS5. (7.0.0.355, Mac OS 10.6.2)
    Here's how to recreate a simple test demonstrating the issue.
    1. Create a new InDesign Book (File -> New -> Book)
    2. Create document one (File -> New -> Document)
    3. Create a text box and type "Table of Contents"
    4. Create document two (File -> New -> Document)
    5. Create a text box in it and type "Story One"
    6. Create a new paragraph style and assign it to the Story One text
    7. Save document 2. I just kept the name Untitled-2.xhtml
    8. Back in document 1, add a cross-reference and select document 2, the style you created, and then "Story One". "Story One" should now appear under the previously typed Table of Contents text, and when highlighed, should show it is an active cross reference in the Hyperlinks panel.
    9. Save document 1. I just kept the name Untitled-1.xhtml
    10. Add both documents to the Book and save the book.
    11. From the Book panel, select Export Book to EPUB...
    12. Save the epub file and open it in Adobe Digital Editions.
    Note that the text "Story One" appears as a hyperlink but when clicked does not switch to the document 2. It does nothing apparent when clicked.
    Looking at the XHTML source for the first document, it is immediately evident why. The filename for document 2.thml is missing.  It looks like this: <a href="#anchor-anchor">
    When it should be : <a href="Untitled-2.xhtml#anchor-anchor">
    The same thing works if you create a hyperlink instead of a cross reference.
    I note then when I use the option to go to the destinate reference in the Cross Link (hyperlink) panel, it does switch to the second InDesign docuemtn. So the cross reference is functioning (in InDesign). But the link is broken in the ePub for the above mentioned reason.
    Bug? Something I'm overlooking?
    Entire source of Untitled-1.xhtml:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <title>Untitled-1.xhtml</title>
    <link href="template.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="untitled-1">
    <div class="generated-style">
    <p class="basic-paragraph" xml:lang='en-us'><span class="no-style-override">Table of Contents</span></p>
    <p class="basic-paragraph" xml:lang='en-us'><span class="no-style-override"><a href="#anchor-anchor">“story one”</a></span></p>
    </div>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>

    As far as I can tell, it has NOT yet been fixed in CS5.5.  I'm having the same problem.  I have about 90 hyperlinks to fix.
    And the explanation that Teus Dejong gives indicates it's not going to be that helpful:  "we have found that only the links in documents split by the CS5 exporter will be fixed. For books the script does only work for references to earlier documents in the book, not for forward references. This means in practice that for most books the script will not repair the links and should be seen as a means to add the year only. At the moment I see no way to repair this, because the book epub output of InDesign does not contain sufficient information to repair links referencing forward to others documents in a book."
    It's pretty discouraging.

  • How to edit the content.opf  file of a FXL EPUB?

    I'm exporting a fixed layout epub and I cannot find out where the content.opf file is and how to edit it.  I'm trying to do the same thing that was done here: Indesign CC 2014 Fixed Layout export
    Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've googled to no end!
    Thanks,

    Please follow these steps to edit your EPUB:
    1. Download Sigil https://code.google.com/p/sigil/downloads/list
    2. Open your EPUB in this editor.
    3. In the book browser view on your left, look up for content.opf file. Edit this file and save your EPUB.

  • Why does a downloaded epub file get the flv extension added to the filename?

    I created an ePub file that works fine. I used the Creative Cloud version of inDesign on my MacBook Pro with OS 10.7.
    I emailed to someone to view. The recipient was going to download the ePub to her Mac and sync with her iPad.
    She was using Safari and gmail. She received the email with the attachment. When she clicked download in the email next to the attachment, it downloaded but added the .flv extension to the file.
    With this extension, the file could not be added to the iTunes library. Removing the .flv so that the filename was restored to the original with the .epub extension, all worked just fine.
    I set all .epub files to be opened by Adobe Digital Editions on my computer.
    I replicated the same situation on my Mac with Safari and gmail. Then, I tried with my yahoo email account. Same situation, file downloads but gets .flv extension added. Guess I can't blame gmail.
    Tried with Chrome and file downloaded with correct name, no extra extension.
    Tried with Entourage and file save with .epub, no extra extension.
    Have not yet tried this on a windows machine but will do so in a bit and report back with results.
    How can I prevent the extra extension?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Just checked this on a Windows 8 laptop.
    Went to gmail. Opened the message and downloaded the ePub file. It downloaded just exactly as expected. No change to the file name.
    I zipped up a folder with the ePub file inside and tried that zip file. I emailed the zip file to my gmail account and then downloaded the zip file and unzipped it. The ePub file came through the process with no alteration to its name.
    As long as I send the ePub inside a zip, I don't seem to have a problem.
    I would still like to know how to prevent the change in name when I email just the ePub file, though.
    Thanks,
    Alex

  • Msgid returned be OCIAQEnq()

    I was trying to get the msgid returned in OCIAQEnq():
    OCIRaw * msgid;
    OCIAQEnq(,,,,,(OCIRaw**) &msgid, 0);
    The msg was enqueued but I don't get the correct msgid.
    I can tell this by issuing a follow up query on the queue table with the same variable msgid as query criteria.
    Any idea how to resolve this?
    Thx in advance.

    I had not noticed that effect on Open Library, I have 'returned' books early and they then became available for others to check out but I never tried to re-download inside the loan period.  Re not using Windows: I expect there will still be an equivalent folder to "My Digital Editions" into which ADE saves each epub.  It still might be worth searching for the book and deleting it from that folder then trying to re-download the book.

  • I want to make a simple PhotoBook

    I have 50 illustrations I want to turn into a 50 page book, thats it. One illustration (jpg) per page. There has to be an easy way to do this? Help please! I am a beginner, but I looked online and couldn't find anything. Thanks for the help in advance.

    I'd recommend that you use Pages instead and save as ePub. Drag the each picture in, center it, add a caption if you want, and insert a page break. When you are finished export as ePub. Using Pages rather than Author gives you the advantage of looking good in portrait mode, having larger pictures, working on different devices. I think this would work well on a simple project like yours. Use author if you want to do more complex things. Another problem is that your project will look awkward in portrait mode if you use Author.

  • Save epub with notes and underlined words

    Can anyone help me? I need to save on an external disk some epub publications that i have studied and underlined, but it looks like this is not possible.any idea would be appreciated.thanks. Rino

    Rino-
    I do not know if such markups to books in iBooks are saved when you do a sync backup.  If they are, you may be able to drag the particular EPUB book out of iTunes to your desktop, and save it to another disk.
    I do not know of a program that can read EPUB books on a computer.  If you have one, you may be able to check and see if the markups or underlines are present after dragging them out of iTunes.

  • What resolution should I save images for fixed-layout epub?

    I have produced an illustrated history book that was created with 300dpi images for print publication.  My next step is to create a fixed-layout epub. Is there a particular resolution that I should set for the images?  Is there a single resolution that I can use to target all tablets and e-readers that accept fixed-layout epubs?
    My strategy was going to be to generate a PDF of the book (with no text) and import the PDF pages as the background images for the fixed-layout epub. I am guessing that I should use 150 dpi when saving the PDF.
    I'm just a little worried that if I create the fixed-layout epub with 150 dpi images, it may not show up correctly on tablets that don't have high resolution screens?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Use the "Save for Web" option.  Put in the resolution you want, and then dial down the quality, it will show you what it looks like.  Go as low as you're willing given the quality it shows.

  • Can not save EPUB books to My Library, Why?

    I bought a book & downloaded it to ADE. Like I always do. It does not appear in my Library. Like they always have. It appears in the reading view, however I have to download it each time I want to read it. Why does it not save to my library like all the other books? How can the book be saved to my Library?
    Respectfully,
    w.e. rocky hughes

    This has also happened to me, and we can't be the only ones. Each time I close ADE, my library is not saved, somehow. It's very frustrating to have to re-download the same e-book each time I want to read it! I'm surprised that no one else has at least responded to your issue since August 23. Doesn't Adobe have a moderator who watches these boards?

  • Since changing our computer I have been unable to download ebooks to my Reader Library I get a message Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library; Waterstones suggest that I may have accidentally created a new Adobe

    When I try to download them from the Waterstones website I get a message saying:
    ‘Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library.  Do you want to associate them now?  When I reply yes I get another message; ‘Configuration error unable to update EPUB files check network firewall and try again’.
    The ‘books’ are saved in the Download directory and I can’t transfer them from there to my E-Reader. I have not had any problems before, it was very simple; I saved the download and it automatically went into the Reader Library.
    I contacted HP and they said it is a software error and suggested I contact Waterstones.  I contacted Waterstones Customer Support and got the following response:
    As the error message is specifically mentioning the firewall it does sound like something in the firewall settings is stopping the download from taking place correctly. However, the files should not be being saved to the Download folder. It would be worth trying again by going to your Digital Order History on your Waterstones.com account and pressing the download button, and then making sure to press "Open" not "Save". When you press Open rather than Save it should give the option to open the file with Adobe Digital Editions. If the firewall message still comes up then I'm afraid something is blocking it on your end.
    If the above "Open" download method works but you then still get an error message it could possibly be that you have accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up on the new computer, rather than signing in with your old Adobe ID. It would be worth trying the aforementioned download technique again first, but if problems did still persist it would be worth calling Adobe themselves on 0207 365 0735, as they should be able to sort out any account issue.
      In response to the first para of Waterstones email I already do what they suggest I do press ‘Open’ not ‘Save’ but I don’t get the open with Adobe Digital Editions (we have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer. Waterstones say we may have ‘accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up the new computer’ does that mean that we shouldn’t have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer as it would have already been there? How do I sign in with my old Adobe ID?

    Hi all after attampting to get some supoport from adobe by phone.... nice people infurating policys as far as support for digital editions or DRM is conserned... However I got no where with support.
    I ended up instaling Digital editions on my desktop PC and going through the motions of registering and borrowing a book then returning it. Then I trying on my iPad, Bluefire worked, Over drive did not so I completely removed Overdrive and reinstalled and re registered. all working now.
    Maybe some one at adobe did something. Maybe the install of the adobe DE client on a PC corrected what ever was out of wack with my account. Mayby the server that my account lives on did a scan disk and corrected a bad clustrer.
    What ever happend My account is actiove and working again. hope this helps others.

  • I think I've found a bug... (CS 4 6.0.4, export to EPUB, w/ test case)

    Hi everyone,
    I think I've found a bug. I suppose I would like to see if others can reproduce it - I've managed to on 2 work machines, but the more the merrier. I suppose I'm also hoping that giving this bug more exposure will increase the likelihood of it getting resolved. I can dream
    The bug shows itself when exporting an InDesign document (or book) to "Digital Editions", or as an EPUB file. The InDesign source needs to have a Table of Contents, and this TOC has to be used by the EPUB to create TOC entries (see the "contents" tab of the export window). In certain cases, using the InDesign TOC causes the EPUB export to garble certain characters; unicode-specific characters, in my experience.
    Steps to reproduce:
    Create a new document, add a blank text frame and fill it with placeholder text. add a heading to this text frame, styled appropriately.
    Create a table of contents, using the heading style you defined and used previously.
    Add some unicode characters to the end of your text frame. I've been using "bêche-de-mer — a genus", which has 2 unicode characters. My tests have shown about 1715 characters in the text frame is enough to trigger this bug.
    Save the document and export to digital editions. under the "contents" tab, check the "include indesign TOC entries" option.
    Open the EPUB (or unzip it and view the xhtml content). I would expect to see "bêche-de-mer — a genus" at the end. However, I see something more like "b√™che-de-mer ‚Äî a genus" instead. I do see the correct output if I don't check the "include indesign TOC entries" option when exporting to EPUB.
    I've confirmed the fonts I've tried are unicode-compliant and have the relevant character codes. I'm running the latest update to InDesign CS4 (6.0.4) on OSX 10.4.11. This character encoding problem doesn't manifest itself in the PDF or IDML export, only the EPUB export. Choosing whether or not to include embedded fonts in the EPUB doesn't make a difference to the outcome. I have run this test on my machine and a workmates, which is OSX 10.5.[something]
    I'll attach a test document to see if others can reproduce this bug. I'd be interested to hear if others can, or cannot reproduce it. I have submitted a bug report at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform, but that doesn't exactly imbue me with confidence that anything will get done in a hurry...
    This problem is pretty annoying; I can either have EPUB navigation, or uncorrupt text. My current (proposed) workaround is for the operator to create 2 EPUBs, one with a TOC and one without, and merge the two together... EPUB transplant if you will. A bit ugly....
    thanks for listening!

    Hiya Joe (and Archie)
    It is indeed an annoying bug - I spent a few days looking around it before posting (wow, it must be nearly a year ago now).
    Fortunately, it really is straightforward (if a bit of a hassle) to workaround:
    - make 2 EPUBs, identical except one will have a TOC generated (epub-a), the other will not (epub-b)
    - extract the TOC file from epub-a and insert it into epub-b
    remembering that EPUB is a zip package, this is very easy indeed. On OSX you have /usr/bin/zip and /usr/bin/unzip to assist with extraction / insertion in a script (bash, applescript, etc). I don't think Windows comes with command-line zip programs, so you'd need to hunt around a bit.
    Good luck. I don't know if this is resolved in the latest 6.0.5 patch - if you haven't updated to that, it might be worth a shot. And if you have and it's still a problem, please respond to this message just so there's a log stating as much.

  • How do I save image and text as a single image in InDesign CS5.0?

    How do I save an image and text as one image in InDesign CS5.0? NOT 5.5.
    I need to save the image as a 72-dpi, jpg file for ePub purposes. I designed a book and am handing it off to someone for ePub.
    This is what I've tried:
    1) Copied from InDesign, pasted into a PhotoShop doc as a Smart Object. Saved it as 72 dpi jpg, then imported back into ID.
    2) Took a screenshot of ID page, placed it in PS, saved as 72 dpi, imported into ID
    3) Saved page as a PDF from InDesign, then saved PDF as 72 dpi jpg, then imported into ID.
    4) Save page as a PDF from InDesign, placed into Photoshop and saved
    as 72 dpi, then imported into ID.
    5) Saved as an EPS from InDesign, placed in PS, then imported back to ID.
    In all cases, the type looks terrible. It doesn't seem to matter whether I copy or place into Photoshop, though placing is slightly better.
    HELP!!!

    In all cases, the type looks terrible. It doesn't seem to matter whether I copy or place into Photoshop, though placing is slightly better.
    Naturally what you did will result in rasterized text. Did you preview with high quality settings?
    Are you sure the people who will handle that downstream need pixel images and do you have the exact pixel dimensions needed?
    Why did you place the image back in Indesign, by the way?

  • ID CS5.5 or CS6 to Epub Question

    I have a client who has an IdCS6 file he wants to have made into an epub. When doing an Id file from scratch and then converting to E pub is one thing but this id file has a lot of text and I see a lot of fonts as well which is probably why my ID6 crashes when I try to export to epub.
    I tried to take the pages from the original and put them in the articles panel, before I export. I also tried to copy and paste two pages at a time into a new CS6 doc and create articles. When I export those I get an epub with no crash, I first notice that when I open the id6 file ( its from a pc , I'm on a mac  I get the fonts missing and find fonts I just ignore.
    Is there a set way or procedure to follow when getting ID files that were made for print  or with a lot of fonts?
    As for the export I did with only two copied pages, when I open in an epub editor I see there are at least 8 fonts and have to manually delete to try to keep the fonts down to 1 or two. A way to do this BEFORE exporting to epub would be nice
    any help on doing this right?
    Rd

    Well,
    Duplicate the file (save as) with another name.
    Let's suppose a file with 300 pages. file1 "save as" to file2.
    In the file1 go to page 151, and clean all the rest of the text and pages.
    In the file2 go to page 150, and clean the text before the page 151 and delete the white pages.
    Remember, delete pages don't clean the text, you have to delete the text too.
    Create a book (File/New/Book...), give a name and add the file1 and file2, automatically, the pages are been renumerated.

  • Creating an epub file from a Framemaker 10 document

    Are there special tools I have to have to turn a Framemaker document into an epub file format?
    Thank you.

    I did some experimenting with this a few months ago.
    The basis of the epub format is XHTML. There are free tools (such as Calibre) that do a good job converting from (X)HTML to epub (and other e-book formats).
    If you have one book to do it is probably quickest just to grab the text and reformat with an HTML editor, then process with Calibre or similar.
    Using other tools, such as Robohelp, MIF2Go, or FrameMaker’s built-in Save as HTML, would take some time to set up properly, and would therefore be worthwhile if you had a number of books to do that were similarly constructed.
    If planning for the future it might be worth considering using XHTML as the base format (i.e. finalising the text in this form) and repurposing either to epub or to print via FrameMaker, or both, as required.
    That was my conclusion, at any rate. You need to look at it in your own context, of course.
