"Save As PDF" in Safari only Results in "Error While Printing"

Hi, first time poster. I searched through the forum and didn't find anything like my problem specifically on topic. I still Hope this isn't being redundant with anything else that has been posted.
Problem:
When I go to Print->Save as PDF the normal dialogue comes up without a problem. Its when I click on the save button that I an error saying "Error While Printing" pops up. Pulling up the console nets me with the following:
5/25/08 11:36:12 AM Safari[95216] Printing failed because PMSessionEndDocumentNoDialog() returned -30871.
And from CUPS:

*What I've Tried*
I haven't had any luck with the solutions others have posted online (like Little Snitch being a culprit) when I've searched for either the "Save As PDF", "Error While Printing", or the console log error. I've run the printer reset function in system preferences and I've never had any printer installed on the system.
I should note that prior to any of these problems with Safari, I installed the Firefox 3 RC1. I've since uninstalled it, because I was suspicious of it having an effect (being a little buggy as an RC). Removing it with AppCleaner hasn't changed the problem.
Thanks all,

I could print/save as .pdf until I did my latest software upgrade. Now I get "error while printing", and have been unable to find a solution. this is quite a problem for me, because I do a lot of research on the Web and have saved my results for years in pdf. Have you found a solution?

  • Safari Mail/Save as PDF reporting "Error while printing"

    It's only just started doing this today, after I installed the updates that came with Mavericks.
    I have been using this feature for 5 years to email receipts to clients... Please tell me that this isn't an ongoing problem!
    I hit command-P to print, then select PDF > Mail PDF. Worked absolutely fine before. Don't know what has happened to cause it to behave differently.
    Thank you!

  • SYSTEM CRASH with 'Save As PDF' in Safari

    Since installing 10.6.4 my MacBook crashes whenever I attempt to "Save as PDF" in Safari. I am unable to force quit Safari or use any other application as the spinning beachball of death works its magic. I removed Safari 5 and replaced it with Safari 4.05 (using Time Machine) but this has no effect. All I can do is a hard reset to get my MacBook back from the abyss. I've just tried 'Save As PDF' from a Pages document and this worked fine.
    Any ideas?

    First thing I would do if I were you is find your Snow Leopard installer DVD, boot from it, and when you get to the point where there is a menubar across the top of your screen, go into Utilities and run Disk Utility's Repair Volume option. If errors, run it over and over until no more "file system was modified" messages are reported. Then run the Repair Permissions option. That one reports errors that never go away so don't worry so much about them. Then reboot, and google "10.6.4 combo update." Download the combo update and reapply it.
    No Sno installer DVD? Then boot while holding down the ⌘s keys. When you get to a user prompt, type fsck -fy and run it over and over until you get no more "file system was modified" messages. Then type exit so the computer reboots. You can continue with the repair permissions and combo update bit after the computer has rebooted into GUI mode.

  • Save to PDF in TextEdit - Error While Printing

    When I try to save a text file to PDF I receive the error message - "Error while printing".  This only seems to be happening to text files I open or create in TextEdit.  It works fine if I log in as a different user.  I've run repair permissions and also deleted a couple of com.apple.print plist files in my user library, but the error remains.
    Is there anything else I should try short of reinstalling TextEdit?
    Thanks in advance for any advice!
    Rick

    On OS X 10.8.2, with TextEdit, I can open or create text documents and export to PDF without any issue.
    Here are the two preference tabs and settings that work for me. You can single click on the images for a larger version.
    New Document
    Open and Save
    PDF documents on OS X are created with binary content, which is the junk you observe.

  • "Printing: Error while printing" when I tries to Save - How?

    Since recently, whenever I tried to save a Pages document, Pages freezes for a few minutes, then show me a system message that says "Printing: Error while printing". I did not ask Pages to print anything! Please advice. Thank you very much.

    You have not provided exact system info, no details about your documents, your save locations nor even told us what version of PS, so nobody can even begin to guess.

  • Safari won't print: "Error while printing" message

    Recently updated to Safari 6.2, on on 2012 Mac Pro, OSX 10.8.5. Tried to print a page from Amazon, and received "Error while printing" message. I then have to force quit Safari. I am able to print from Indesign, OpenOffice, and the same Amazon page from Chrome with no problem, so the problem seems to lie with Safari.
    I ran Disk Warrior, and rebuilt permissions, but the problem persists.
    I am reluctant to call Apple and be told that I have to reinstall system software, this seems related to my recent software update of Safari.
    Could use some suggestions here if anyone knows what the problem might be.

    It might be the Safari cache or cookies in Safari in you want to try ..
    From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
    No open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If that didn't help, try troubleshooting extensions.
    From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • PDF export from Pages fails "Print - error while printing"

    Every month I have been generating PDF versions of my invoices by using the 'export' function of Pages. This has always worked fine without any problems.
    Today (end of Feb 08), the pdf export function always fails with 'Print - error while printing". A pdf file is saved to disc but it is corrupted and unreadable. I can still export as rtfd.
    I don't see anything about this in the logs, but I do notice that there was a Pages software update to 3.0.2 earlier this month.
    Anybody know how to fix this?

    Hello
    Before re-installing, it may be useful to
    a - repair permissions with Disk Utility
    b - trash the preferences file: <bootVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.plis t
    if it's not sufficient, try to print from an other user account.
    If it works this way, you will know that the application's files are not the wrongdoers as every account calls the same application file.

  • How can I automate 'Save as PDF' in Safari?

    I routinely research stuff, then save it in PDF (it seems to be a better format that html pages).
    Is there a way I can automate this, rather than the lengthy CMD+Print>PDF>Save As PDF routine?

    You can also script the user interface with an AppleScript. The following AppleScript will save the current Safari (Version 3.1.2) page to the default location (if you want to specify another location, just remove the last keystroke return statement):
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    -- save the current Safari page as PDF
    tell application "Safari"
    activate
    tell application "System Events"
    keystroke "p" using {command down} -- activate print menu item
    delay 0.5
    tell sheet 1
    repeat 2 times -- tab to the PDF button
    keystroke tab using {shift down}
    delay 0.25
    end repeat
    keystroke space -- press the button
    delay 0.25
    repeat 2 times -- move to the save item
    keystroke (ASCII character 31) -- down arrow
    delay 0.25
    end repeat
    keystroke return -- activate the menu item
    delay 0.25
    keystroke return -- press the save button
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell

  • Save a PDF from Safari

    When I click on a PDF in Safari it opens in Safari. How can I save the PDF to a file?

    First, you need to download a PDF reading app. You can download iBooks (free) or a different iPAD PDF reading program. After that, when your PDF is displayed in safari you can tap on the document and you'll have an option to "Open in ..." the PDF program. (I think this option may also appear at the top of the document in a menu bar when you first view it in Safari.) When it opens in iBooks, for example, it also saves a copy of the PDF on the bookshelf so that it is available without needing to go back to the website.

  • Acrobat X prints PDF's - but only to desktop unable to Print direct to Folder - Error No Permission

    Just installed Acrobat X and since installation I am able to print PDFs however am only able to print to my desktop and am unable to print directly into existing or even newly created folders.
    System advises there is no permission to allow the print in the folder and to see the system administrator.  As I am the only user,thus administrator, am having a hard time rectifying the situation.
    Also noticed that the print window when it first appears is minimized and you need need to use a few clicks to open through "More.... "  to get the computer or destop settings.   Is there a way to have this print window default totally open to allow immediate access to all options.
    Is becoming a bit tedious to go through this process to print PDF and then move from the desktop into the folders, which seems to be no problem at all.
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Error while printing (PDF) large BI reports

    Hello,
    We use ADS to print our BI reports from the portal. For small reports (10-20 pages) this works fine, but for very large ones (>100 pages) we get the error "Error while generating PDF" on the screen (after a considerable amount of time). In the defaulttrace, I can see this error:

    I've checked the timeout settings for IRJ services (500 seconds) and the timeout settings for web service clients (900 seconds). This should not be the problem.
    Does anybody have a suggestion as to how to solve this?

  • Can you save editable pdf as read only

    I have a client who's using an editable pdf that I set up in the full version of Acrobat 8.0. They would like to edit the doc in Acrobat Reader and then do a save as and make the doc "read Only" so that their viewers can't edit the document after they have made their changes. Is this possible or am I the only one who can make it readable or not readable with the full version of Acrobat?

    You can do it. They can't.
    If this is something they are going to do a lot of, recommend that they purchase at least Acrobat Standard if not Pro.

  • When I save a pdf from Safari 7, the file is empty

    Before I upgraded to MAvericks and Safari 7 I used to be able to save pdfs to my desktop with no problem. However, when I save now, all I get is an icon. When I try to open it, I get the message that the file is empty, and sure enough when I go to info the size of the file is zero.
    As far as I can tell I am doing exactly the same as I was doing before upgrading.
    What is wrong? And idea how I can fix this?

    Better to save files to a designated folder in the Finder then the desktop.
    Desktop preferences may be corrupted.
    Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    Click Go then move the com.apple.desktop.plist file to the Trash
    Try saving a PDF file.
