Save file to desktop, not load in browser window.

Hello,
    I've created a page where I describe certian videos or audio files and then give the visitor the option to download that video or audio clip. These clips are saved as .mov and .wav .
My issue is that I set up a link to those files. When the link is pressed the video or audio loads into a new browser window and plays as opposed to giving the visitor the option to download the file to a location on their desktop.
I need these particular files to be downloaded as files to be saved on the visitors computer and not displayed in a new window.
Is there a setting within the Dreamweaver property inspector where I can set this. Is this a behavior that I need to apply to the link.
As far as the compression on the movie files. I used compressor in the final cut 2 suite to compress these as downloadable mp4 files instead of streaming.
Thanks for any advice.

No. It's a behavior of the browser nad depends on how the user has configured it, plain and simple. Some browsers will play, some will offer to download, some will do neither and block the content. Anyway, it is good practice to contain data files in Zip archives, if they are meant for downloading. This will also prevent cross-platform compatibility issues and avoid possible damage of the data files.

    Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your help.
    It was just a hunch that MircoNetFrame was causing the problem. I disabled it as you suggested, and I still have the problem.
    I just changed under Tools>Options> General - had checked "ask me every time" under downloads, so instead of asking me, FF saved the download to I know not where. It no longer saves it to the desktop, leaving a duplicate in "my documents".
    In windows, I have found unless one knows the entire name of the document, one can never find anything. It isn't listed under recent ''''''__. I can't recall the nomenclature, but the
    capability is ridiculous. So, I don't know where that file I just downloaded is!
    I downloaded a PDF file, but this happens with all DL's. It was so easy to have them all stacked in one place and I could recall
    what I had and when I downloaded it easily.
    Do you have any other suggestions other that going back to the old version of FF, which I would rather not do?
    Thanks again for your time, it is very considerate to help a complete stranger, I must say. Sounds like something I might do! Cheers!

  • Safari 5.1 -- 'Open at Login' not opening a browser window?

    I have Safari set to open at login (right-click Safari in the Dock > Options > Open at Login). When I reach my desktop, the Safari icon in the Dock bounces and the spotlight lights up as expected, but Safari does not open a browser window -- I have to click the Safari icon or click File > New Window to see a window.
    I've used Open at Login with Firefox and Mail and have never experienced this issue; the application window always opens. I've also tried disabling Safari's extensions and resetting Safari's settings (Safari > Reset Safari) with no luck.
    I know I can probably trick Safari by adding a shortcut to my homepage to the Dock and have that open at login, but I would like to resolve this if I can. Any ideas?

    I found this discussion about three or four months ago. I was having the same problem with Safari not opening, along with my other login items.
    The tip posted by Linc on Oct 3, 2011 9:22 AM, resolved the issue.
    Thanks Linc!
    HOWEVER... Today, all of the sudden... Out of out of the blue... I have the same problem, again!?
    I tried removing, then re-adding, the URL file from the log in items, automatic open list.
    It did not work?
    Does anybody have any ideas/solutions regarding this issue? This is becoming VERY aggravating!

    Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro will not load on  new Windows 7 Home Ultimate PC

    When I double click on the AA9 icon to initiate installation, it whirls away for a while then asks if I want to allow "this program to make changes to his computer?"  I click Yes and it begins to process again for a few minutes.  Then it displays the following Invalid Unicode file error message...and simply stops processing or installing.  In that last process, it also reaches out for whatever reason and activates the magnifier tool in Windows.
    I have thought that perhaps upgrading to a higher version of Windows might help, but who knows for sure?

    Why is app sore not loading on Itunes windows 7

    Try resetting Winsock, it looks like it worked for quite a few people in this thread -> With iTunes 10.4 I can access iTunes store.
    MTG68 wrote - In windows 7, click on your start menu, go to accessories, right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run as administrator".  Once it opens, type in the following command...
    netsh winsock reset
    hit enter and it should say something like winsock reset successful now reboot your computer.
    If that doesn't work, try uninstalling Safari, QuickTime, and iTunes (along with related components). Then just reinstall the latest version of iTunes, without installing downloading and installing Safari or QuickTime seperately.

  • Device detected driver not loading correctly per windows

    Device detected but driver not loading correctly. Windows says to reload driver. I have reloaded driver and the Nidaq software package (ver 6.9.3) repeatedly to no avail.
    Upgrading from old machine that had a 1997 version of driver that work fine under this OS (win98SE).
    What could be the problem?

    It's possible the copy of the NI-DAQ driver you have is corrupt, you may want to download it again.  It's available from the Drivers and Updates page.  Also, if you did not already do so, remove the DAQ card before uninstalling the driver and then reinstall it before reinserting the DAQ device.
    What DAQ device are you using?  Depending on what DAQ device you have, you may want to upgrade the driver, the most recent version of the NI-DAQ driver for Windows 98 is 7.1.  You can see what driver is best for your device from the DAQ Acquisition Installer/Configuration Troubleshooter and then download the driver from the Drivers and Updates page.
    Let me know if this doesn't solve your problem!

  • ActionPerformed method not working when applet is loaded in browser window.

    Hey there guys. I need urgent help from anybody who has experience in deploying websites whose code is in java.
    I am having two problems as mentioned below...
    first, I have made a simple login screen using java swing and JApplet. there is a single button to login. the action performed for this button accesses a private method to check the username and password which are there in atext file. the applet is working perfectly in appletviewer but when i load the applet in a Internet Explorer window using HTML's Applet tag, the button is giving no response at all even when i enter the correct username and password.
    I guess it is either not calling the private function that is checking the username and password from the tes=xt file or it can not access the file. Please help as soon as possible as this is related to my college project.
    I am attaching the code herewith. Suggestions to improve the coding are also welcome.
    the second problem is that while writing my second program for generating a form which registers a user the html is not at all loading the applet into the browser and also if im trying to access a file to write all the details into the console is showing numerous amount of error after i press the button which i can't not understand. the only thing i can understand is that it is related to file access permissions. If anybody could put some light on the working of worker threads and thread safe activities of SwingUtilities.invokeandWait method it would be really appreciable.

    Hey Andrew, first of all sorry for that shout, it was un-intentional as i am new to posting topics on forums and didn't new that this kind of writing is meant as shouting. Cool.
    Secondly thank you for taking interest in my concern.No worries.
    Thirdly, as i mentioned before, I am reading i file for checking of username and password. the file is named as "userpass.txt" and is saved in the directory named "@data" which is kept in the same directory in which my class file resides.OK - server-side. That makes some sense, and makes things easier. The problem with your current code is that the applet will be looking for that directory on the end user's local file system. Of course the file does not exist there, so the applet will fail unless the the end user is using the same machine as the server is coming from.
    To get access to a resource on the server - the place the applet lives - requires an URL. In applets, URLs are relatively easy to form. It might be something along the lines of
    URL urlToPswrd = new URL(getCodeBase(), "@data/userpass.txt");
    InputStream is = urlToPswrd.openStream();
    DataInputStream din = new DataInputStream(is);
    So the problem is that it is reading the file and showing the specific output dialog box when i run it through appletviewer.. Huhh. What version of the SDK are you using? More recent applet viewers should report security exceptions if the File exists.
    ..but the same is not happening when i launch the applet in my browser window using the code as written belowHave you discovered how to open the Java Console in the browser yet? It is important.
    Also the answer to your second question
    Also, the entire approach to storing/restoring the password is potentially wrong. For instance, where is it supposed to be stored, on the server, or on the client?is that, as of now it is just my college project so all the data files and the username and password wiles will be stored on my laptop only i.e. on the client only. no server involved.OK, but understand that an applet ultimately does not make much sense unless deployed through a server. And the entire server/client distinction becomes very important, since that code would be searching for a non-existent file on the computer of the end user.

  • PDF will not load in Browser

    Hello,
    I looked for something similar to what I'm experiencing but couldn't find it here. I also didn't know where best to put this on these forums. Thank you for reading in advance.
    I have a client that is experiencing issues opening pdf files from the web. She has Windows 7 64bit using acrobat 9. She can open pdfs locally or on the server share. She can save pdfs to the pc and then open them just fine however if she tries to open them in a browser (mainly IE but also happens in FF) she gets a pop up saying to close Acrobat/Reader and try again. (1:1). I've tried disabling all security on browser and acrobat and unchecking the open in browser option under internet but nothing is resolving the issue. It is up to date and I've tried repairing the install.
    Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

    There are two potential problems up front. First, be sure you have updated AA9. It is at 9.5.3 currently. Since you did not mention the subversions, I assume this is a 9.0.0 installation. That is particularly an issue on a 64-bit system.
    To the best of my knowledge, AA9 does not work with 64-bit versions of OFFICE. I suspect you are running IE as a 64-bit process and that may be the issue. Unfortunately, I was never clear on the PDF plugins to the browsers, but at least this gives you something to consider.

  • Emedded PDF files are still not loading in Safari.

    With the latest update of Safari for the PC, when I tried to open up an Embedded PDF file Safari would crash. I found somewhere that this was an known issue with Apple and Safri handling Embedded PDF files. However, after months, I still see no fix. I uninstalled the latest update of Safari completly. I rebooted my system and then I had an older version from 2012 of Safari where this issue wasn't happening. Well, now Safari doesn't crash and the Embedded PDF file shows up for a few seconds and then disapears. Safari tries to re-load the page but with no success. So I have to just go to another URL. Most all of the help is for a Mac or iMac in plug-ins support for this. However, I do not see where Adobe Acrobat is even there in some library (wherever that might be on a PC) to delete any lines. I have also read that people who have tried that didn't help them on their Mac. Has anyone had any success in a fix for this issue? Is Apple really looking to fix this bug? I loved Safari once I got used to it and now I am stuck with Chrome as my base browser because at least it works. Not a wonderful browser like Safari USED to be.
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I have created a save function in my program to save new data and append it at the end of a single file. Here is the code.
    private void SaveActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {//GEN-FIRST:event_SaveActionPerformed
           Vector<PointOnFret> vectorToSave = gPanel1.getFretPointsVector();
           String chordName = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter chord name");

  • User can only save files to desktop.

    Hello,
    We recently purchased/deployed a MacPro workstation w/Snow Leopard v10.6.8 to a member of our Marketing Dept. The server is bound to our Active Directory domain and the domain user account has local admin rights.
    We copied files over from another Mac. However, this user can only save to his desktop and not directly to other folders on the HDD. He can copy files from the desktop to other folders, but is prompted for admin credentials each time.

  • Xml does not load in browser

    i made an applet that loads an .xml to get data. it works fine when i compile it in netbeans but when i try to use it in my browser in does not load the xml. Tha paths are ok. Is there something that could be done?

    Is the XML file on the local hard drive?
    By default applets cannot read local media (like the hard drive). You can get around that by signing the applet and having the user permit signed applets to read local media (which may or may not be the default; I don't know).
    A possibly better solution is to rework your applet so it either comes bundled with the XML file (say, in the jar file it's deployed in), or have it retrieve the XML from the server it came from. Both of these solutions do not require signing the applet or having the user give special permission.
