Save for Web does not remember quality settings

Hello,
I just about PSE8 today and Im on a mac with Leopard.
PSE does not remember the quality settings when "save for web".
The quality is 0 every time Im saving. Even if I change to 100 it does not remember it.
Can you help please? Im far from being an expert here.

function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
However in my library-folder/preferences folder I found 5 folders or files which are connected to adobe.
"write and read" is activated on all and Im the main user on this mac.
There is even one file called "Adobe PSE für Web speichern 6.0 Vor" so pretty much like "save for web". On this one I can write and read as well.
On Windows, there is a preferences file that is stored in the proper location for such files:
C:\Users\Ellis\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Save For Web PSE\4.0\Adobe Save For Web PSE 4.0 Prefs
PSE has no problem writing that file.  This sounds similar to the file you found.
However, there is another file that Save For Web tries to write:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Settings\Recently Used Optimizations.irs
It is this file that is located improperly, in Program Files, which is supposed to be only for read-only executables (.exe), dynamic link libraries (.dll), and other read-only assets live.  Programs normally don't have write permissions for these folders, so Save For Web fails to save its preferences.  Perhaps there is something similar on the Mac.  (I'm not an OS X expert, so I can't help with the Mac conventions of where things are kept.)

  • Save for Web does not open dialog box in PS Elements 8 for Mac

After opening an image and selecting Save for Web, the Save for Web dialog box fails to appear. I've seen similar reports for PS Elements 6 for Mac, but did not find the same files in those directories. Running iMac with OS 10.6.

There are many things that only work in an admin account, but if you're willing to take the trouble, you can change the permissions to allow them to work in a standard account. See:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/362899
Note that it's pretty important to run Save for Web one time in the admin account after changing the permissions or it still won't work in the standard account.

  • "Save for Web" does not work with mac OS 10.6

Everything else runs fine with PSE 6 and OS 10.6, but nothing (!) happens when choosing "Save for Web" (German Version).

Here are the directions for PSE 6 in general:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/422596?tstart=30
    and for save for web:
Finally, to make the Save For Web work, you must do the same thing as above (which is make a folder owner be a non-admin account, and fix the read/write so that in 10.4 the You can says Read & Write).  The folder to change with the "command i" get info is :
    /Library/Applications Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/File Agent/6.0/en_US.
Once this en_US file is owned by a non-admin account and the Read & Write is set, and the padlock is unlocked, the Save For Web works.

  • PS Save For Web -- what are optimum GIF settings?

    Hi,
I am making very simple buttons for a web page navigation bar as follows:
Create new file in sRGB with proper dimensions for my navigation area.
Fill with web page background color, #c4c0b4.
Use Type Tool to create text in gray #666666.  (After creating these buttons, I change the text color to white for hover buttons.)
Use Guides and Slice Tool to define shape of each button.
Save For Web to create folder with all the buttons.
In the Save For Web dialog I have tried several of the GIF presets -- 128, 64, 32, with dithering and without dithering.  They all look good, but I'm not sure which will give me that absolute highest quality, sharpest looking characters.
    QUESTIONS:
    1) Which of the GIF presets should I use for the best text appearance?  I have read the Help file and it would seem that I do not need dithering since I am using two solid colors -- #c4c0b4 and either #666666 or white.  To dither or not to dither, that is the question!
    2) Do I need more than 32 colors?
    3) In Save For Web, when I click Save and the Save Optimized As dialog opens, should I use the Default Settings under Settings, or would a custom setting be preferable?
    4) Am I correct that I should NOT apply any sharpening to text-only files such as this?
As always, thanks to the pros here for any advice on this.

    Hi Jesse,
I tried using text links and setting the size in pixels, but the sizing changed depending on the browser settings.  Sizing in pixels is better than in points or generic sizes, but still subject to changes.  I'm on a PC and my designer-friend who is helping me with this is on a Mac.  We've done some tests and anything other than making the links with images is not consistent from browser to browser, Mac to PC.  We want to guarantee that all the text on the page will not change -- size, spacing, leading, etc.  My clients are graphic designers and art directors who will notice this kind of thing.
As for the client changing, adding or subtracting links... well, I'm the client and I'm doing the site myself, so that's not going to be an issue.  In addition, as you see, the site is super-simple so there aren't likely to be a whole lot of major changes.  That's not to say it could not happen, but saving all my Photoshop work files is not a problem.
Please understand, I am not arguing with you or Nancy.  If I were doing a complicated corporate or business site, I would use text links for all the reasons you lay out... no question about that.
Thank you for the tips on saving GIFs.  I'm using Photoshop CS4 and Save For Web.  I think I now understand what settings to use.  I am using GIFs only for the text.  All of the images will be JPGs, but those are all generated automatically by Lightroom and a web gallery plug-in called SlideShowPro which not only generates the images but assembles the galleries and does all the Flash stuff.  All I do is embed the Flash galleries into my pages.  For a non-web person like me, that's nothing short of a miracle.
Your comments were not long-winded.  In fact, I'm so eager to learn more about this stuff that I really appreciate your detailed explanations.  Thanks for the comment about my work -- I'm excited about this new website which hopefully will make it look better than ever!
    Best,
    John

  • Save for Web Matte Not Working?

    Hi everyone,
I'm having problems with the Matte settings in the Save for Web section to create a smooth transparent .gif image. None of the black matte is showing up in the zoomed preview (picture attached), nor is it saving when I render the file. The adjusted transparent image still appears with the white jagged halos on a black web page background, even though I set a black matte. Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

Sorry, I haven't used the matte feature of Save for Web, so I can't help you there.  (I only save in PNG format.)
This is an interesting question, though, and I spent a few hours working on it -- I'm still assuming that you're starting with a logo supplied as a bitmap image (GIF or JPG) on a white background and want to clean it up so it works on a black background.
    FWIW, here are my thoughts:
I found a logo on the Web to use for practice:
This is a tough example which has a lot of problems, as you can see from this enlargement:
The colours "bleed" when next to each other, the colour areas have darkened edges, the colours (and even the white background) are "splotchy" and not uniform, the edges are anti-aliased and have multiple colours in 'em, and so on.
The fact is that a supplied image like that is only suitable for use as a guide for completely re-creating the logo.
You have two choices for re-creating it:
Work on it as a bitmap image.
Work on it as a vector drawing.
Either way, you're going to do a lot of handwork.  I haven't found a way to automatically correct the problems that I mentioned.
If you work on it as a bitmap in PSE, you'll wind up re-drawing by hand each pixel (or each edge of a colour selection, which amounts to about the same thing).
What I wound up doing is using a vector drawing program (CorelDraw, since I can't afford Illustrator) to recreate the logo.  Even though I'm quite rusty, it didn't take too long to use the Bezier curve tool to create the coloured shapes.  I simply used CDR's bitmap trace tool to vectorize the type.  Once I had the vector drawing, everything is wonderful because vector shapes are resolution and size independent.  It was a snap to export the drawing for the Web as a transparency-enabled PNG image without anti-aliasing, reducing it by 85%:
    Hope these thoughts help....

  • CS4 PS crash in 64 bit Save for Web but not 32 bit - help!?

Anyone got any ideas please on how to stop Photoshop CS4 crashing on Save for Web in 64 bit version of Windows 7?
Running Windows 7, 64 bit Pro with both 64bit and 32bit versions of Photoshop CS4 installed.
The problem: I design a website, add slices etc as I've done for the last 10 years, go to Save for Web and as the dialogue box is opening and the blue bar at the bottom starts to show it loading, it gets just over half way and then crashes, saying the error message 'Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working'. No solution available and then closes. Does this quite a few times (say 20-30%) of the time but not always. Tried the same PS document running 32bit version of Photoshop CS4 and it saves for web fine, never any crashes, only using the 64 bit version of PS. Need 64bit to take advantage of extra memory etc and one of the reasons the machine/ software combo was bought for.
Running a brand new (well about a month or so) Dell T3500 dual Xeon W3505, 12gb ram, Nvidia Quadro Fx 3800, Raptor HD etc built to run Win 7 Pro and CS4 Extended. I suspect the spec isn't to blame, checked all the hardware etc, no plugins that arent standard with a new install, so no obvious reason I can tell of as to why its not working. Not much else installed and started playing up before I installed other bits of software so doent make sense it might be other software cauing any problems.
Put a support query in and basically got told CS4 wasnt tested with 64 bit CS4 and directed to a possible support solution to 64 bit running on xp/ vista with general advice. No use whatsoever.
Firstly, anyone else having the same problem? Secondly, anyone know how to solve this? If its any help, I've pasted the Action Center info on one of  the many crashes:
    Description
    Faulting Application Path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe

The graphics card supports the new GPU features but tried with and without those turned on - still the same problem. Tried all sorts of preferences on and off but still no joy.
Would really appreciate any help/ advice on solving this.
    Thanks.

Been reading up on that c0000005 error and in all the Operating systems it is a access violation. There are a lot of hits about windows 7 and software not being allowed local access and be saved that way too. What I think is that windows 7 is not allowing it for some reason in 64 bit mode or some security setting in the local needs adjusting?
    I found this interesting fact
I was reading where testors were monitoring how windows 7 firewall allows DRM to run in the firewall. All the software they tested asked first for firewall permission (my software on my system asked first so know it is true on my other system). However, according to the testers, with PS CS4 the DRM does not ask to run with firewall premission. Windows 7 just bypasses the asking part and PS CS4 DRM gets firewall access.
    Edit by me:
Google the offset code and your the very first to report it.

  • Save for web & devices not working (CS4)

I noticed today that I can't save for web & devices any more. when I try it shuts down the program and gives me the following message to send a crash report:
Adobe has detected that the application Adobe Illustrator CS4 has unexpectedly quit.
this started as a Photoshop CS4 problem where I also can't save for web & devices any more. before people jump down my throat again for mentioning this Photoshop problem on the Illustrator forum - this is for context only. I have the same problem in both applications. I just include this information here in case it helps. the Photoshop message I get is:
The operation can not be completed.
savign for web & devices worked totally fine up till last night in Photoshop. haven't saved anything out of Illustrator for web & devices in a while but it used to work just fine.
I have a PC and use Windows 7. All my Adobe products are up-to-date.
Any help is much appreciated. Thx a lot!

thank you very much. at least it happened before. I was seriously doubting myself. tried trashing preference files multiple times, but that didn't help. will reinstall everything and see if that does the trick.
    thanks again!

  • CS5.1 Save for Web & Devices not responding

I was turning a mov. file into a gif. When I was finished I went to save for web & devices and after it finished loading... the gif couldn't be seen but a coral pink box took the space. Then I get a message stateing that Adobe CS5.1 is not responding... Then it closes down the program. I'm able to make other gifs. Even ones with more frames. They all turn out to be fine. It's just this certain one I try to make that always ends up closeing down the program. The file size is 248MB and the gif I'm trying to make only needs 91 frames. I'm so confused. I even used the same mov. file and made a different gif from it and it worked perfectly! I've tried reinstalling but that didn't fix anything.
So hopefully someone out here will have some helpful information on how to fix this. Thanks!

What dimensions does the image have?
    And what does
I was turning a mov. file into a gif.
    mean exactly?

  • Save For Web is not working

I just had my software updated from CS to CS5 (I'm in a new job and asked for this upgrade) and now when I go to Save For Web I get the following:
    Error
The operation could not be completed
The system cannot find the path specified
    Notes:
    - This wasn't an issue before the upgrade
    - I tried pulling the files off of the server and working from the desktop, no go
    - I'm working on a PC but am a Mac user, therefore system q's are going to be tough for me to answer

It may be that the plug-in isn't reporting a problem with the path of the file, but some other path (e.g., to a temporary folder or scratch disk).
Double check (or have your system guru check) that the folder identified by the TEMP environment variable can be written/read by your account on the computer.  Make the same check for the root folder(s) of the hard drive(s) identified as scratch drives in Edit - Preferences - Performance.

  • Save for web preview not working in Photoshop CS4

    Hello all.
I'm having a problem with Save for Web in Photoshop 11.0.2. Basically, whenever I move to save an image using "Save for Web & Devices," the preview window is stuck in GIF mode. I can move the Preset settings to any of the choices, and also change to any of the 5 image types underneath, but only a GIF setting at 100% dither/Selective palette/256 colors preview will show in the preview window.
I have trashed both the Adobe Save for Web 11.0 Prefs and the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist files, and have repaired permissions, but this doesn't resolve the problem.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
    --jody radzik.

I fixed the problem by erasing "Save for Web" from within Photoshop rather than outside in the file tree.

  • Save for Web is not displaying white text, only showing the drop shadow of a vector.

I just updated Illustrator this morning and now having this issue. I have two logos on the artboard. Both are filled with white, both have the same small drop shadow. The both show up on the artboard, but when I try to save for web or export into a .jpeg the white doesn't fill in on one logo, but it does on the other.
Anyone have any ideas on a fix?

Do the white objects appear when in Overprint mode?

  • CS6 Save for Web will not upload to Facebook

I have edited a series of photographs that I want to upload to Facebook, and it seems that any file I save from Photoshop CS6 will not upload.  Facebook reports the following error:
    Security Check Required
A security check is required to proceed.
Below is a snap shot from my Save for Web dialog box, and I don't see anything there that would prevent me from uploading the said image to Facebook
    Adobe Photoshop CS6 V13.00 64bit Extended
    Mac OSX 10.7.4
The facebook error I get is:

No, I have not received any flags...
I am able to upload photo's I saved from CS5, just not from CS6...  I was able to upload these photographs once I imported them into Aperature, and had Aperature process the images...
Its weird.. I have no explanation.

  • Ps 3d and filters and save for web are not working the way they should

At work we just put cs6 on a w7 machine running 64 bit which has more than that required mem and or ram to run cs6 - unfortunately I have to use a windows based machine at work (cheapskates). Anyways. I see the 3d menus and the filter menu in PS but they aren't funtional. The filter menu drop down is there but Liquify is the only one that shows up the rest are gray. The option to choose 3d is also there but they are not functional (grayed out) - I took a look at some online tutorials on using the 3d effect in PS CS6 and Ive gone through it a few times and it still won't work for me. Also, in illustrator when I save for web - when I adjust the pixel dimensions and move the mouse over and click on the image that I am saving for web nothing happens and I'm completely boggled about how to get the image size to change in the save for web pane. Typically I am used to being able to input the the number into the pixel dimenion field and click on the image and the image resizes (on a mac you can either click on the image or hit return and the image will resize in front of your eyes!). I am unable to get this to work the way I am used to, this happens for me in both ill5 and ill6 on this piece of crap windows machine. Maybe I just need to reinstall? Maybe adobe has changed the way this works? Maybe a sledge hammer into this windows machine would solve all my problems!? IDK. someone help... help me... pleeeeaaaaaaaaaaasssseeeee

unfortunately I have to use a windows based machine at work (cheapskates).
This gets a "stupid comment of the day" medal. Seriously. These days Macs are just as convoluted and effed up as Windows was a few years ago - nice as long as everything works, but god forbid you have a problem. So by all means, update your graphics driver and be glad that you actually have that choice rather than having to wait half a year for Apple to fix it...

  • Elements 10 - "Save for Web" function not working.

No response when clicked. Menu closes. That's all. As far as I know, everything else is fine. Using Win7-Home Prem.

    Ken --
First of all thank you for taking an interest in this problem.
Honestly, I'm not sure if it ever worked. I've used the function but I'm not sure if the last time I used it I was using Elements 8 or Elements 10. Sorry.
Yes, I have installed additional plug-ins and filters a few of which I found on the internet. Are there any that you know of that could cause Save for Web to stop? I'm guessing yes or you wouldn't have asked.
The file you asked about is there in the folder specified.

  • Save For Web & Devices Not Responding

Hi there, I am quite new to Photoshop so please be gentle
I have created a multi layer image that is at 8bits per channel and when I go to Save For Web & Devices it brings up the display showing me the optimized version ... I then click on SAVE and it brings up the save dialog but everything is grayed out and I can not click on anything. I can click on CANCEL on the previous window and this hides the Save Dialog (but doesn't actually close it)
Please help on this as it has totally confused me

I have been able to SFW a few times but only on new images. The one I am trying to save was copied over from a PC (in fact any file that was previously on a Windows PC)
I have trashed the prefs and it is still the same. I have even re-installed again to no effect. Thanks for the continued help on this
