Save pages as a .doc file??

On my old Pages, I could "save as" a .doc file easily...and everyone oculd open it and it would be fine. My updates did a Pages update automatically and now I can't find the old "save AS" option and I can't figure out how to download as a .doc file. HELP?!! I don't want to think this, but has someone from Microsoft infiltrated the Apple Staff??

You didn't mention which version of Pages. The following is the File > Export To... panel in Pages v5.2. As Peter commented, and I would verify the export results to .doc/x from Pages v5.2 before I sent it to anyone. Also, I reiterate Peter's position about using Pages ’08/’09 if you have it.

Setting pages to open .doc files by default

I have iWork '08 but not MS Word on my MBP. When I get an e-mail attachment that is a .doc file (or an .xls file), I need to save it to the desktop and then open it with Pages or Numbers. Same with old Word files--I can't just open them in Pages by double clicking. Is there a way that I can tell Pages to open these files by default?

At this time, when I am on ebay, one feature is broken from Safari but happily, it works under Firefox. Alas, in Firefox an other feature force the Mac to quit (under ebay) with a dialog which I never saw before:

Save page input to a file

Hi,
I have a task where a user should be able to save the nput on a page to a file.
The page contains a form and a tabular form.
The user must also have the possibility to upload the saved files and save the corresponding data to the database.
This operation is needed for possible shortcomings in internet connection and it is used in laptops.
I wonder what would be the most simple way to do this.
I thought that maybe it could be done so that the whole page is copied as HTML and saved to a file. Then on upload the corresponding input values of the objects are copied to the page and the page is then submitted. But how to copy the values from a blob?
And I guess there is a better way to do this ?
Any tips or comments would be really helpfull, because I must get this ready soon.

Hmmm.. so your users want to start modifying the report in the apex page itself, but want to continue modifying the same even after the network connection is lost ?
I was thinking of asking them to download the excel first,modify it(the excel) and then upload it later.
If this is the case , irrespective of what you do in apex the values entered are going to be staying in the user's browser. Of course you can use a tabular form based on a collection and use ajax to autosave the data once in a while but even thats not going to be very effective.
Saving the HTML would probably be the only way (if they don't want to upload an excel) . As I mentioned earlier , upload that HTML file to an XML column and extract the values from there. You can also combine the approaches , by having a Javascript on the page which dumps all the data into a textarea in a comma separated structure which the users can save into a csv file,open it in excel modify i and then upload it too.
Irrespective of the method used, you have a slight problem (which you have overlooked). Once the connection is lost, Pagination request from the tabular form do not work anymore, so users can only work on one page(the one which is loaded), same is the case with downloading the report to excel even that needs a request to the server(so the javascript method I mentioned would have this problem again). Saving the complete report together in an HTML page(using a large pagination value) or modifying an excel would probably be the only way then.

Framemake 7.0 Save as ,rtf or .doc files no longer works under 10.4.11

I am using Framemaker 7.0 on Classic under Tiger 10.4.11. I cannot save my Framemaker files as RTF or Word documents as I could before. I have tried MacLink Plus (16.0) on Framemaker generated MIF files but it does not translate files correctly (gives a text file with the formatting commands). Anyone got a solution?

My old DataViz only handles v2.0 or v3.0 .mif files.

Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.

Why can't I save Pages 5.5 docs nor open Pages 09 docs on my MacPro?

I updated to Yosemite on my MacPro (early 2009) so my MacBook Air and my Pro would be on the same OS. Pages won't open any docs form Pages 09 although it works fine from my Air. I can create a document in Pages 5.5 but it won't let me save it "Not permitted." Works fine from my Air and also on my I Pad.
When I go to open an 09 document in 5.5 it shows up in the list and shows a preview, but the message "name of doc.pages" can't be opened.
I'm a writer and an editor. I NEED this to work.
Any solutions? Ideas? Juju?

Have you checked for an update? What OS did you upgrade from - if 10.6, PowerPC applications don't work into 10.7 and above.

When I "save page as" I also get a folder with gif images, jscript script files and other similar items. how can I stop this.

How can save/convert a preview file into a Microsoft Word/.doc file?

Basically, I've open some email attachments and they've opened in 'preview'
I have tried to save them as a .doc file so that I can open them in Microsoft Word, but have been unable to do this.
I have tried 'save as...' but it doesn't come up with a .doc option
I have also tried the 'Open with' in the get info pop up, and have changed it to microsoft word but when I then try to open it, it comes up with a 'Convert File' box.
I have tried some of the options available but none of them work
Am I missing something? or am I going down the wrong route?
Is it even possible to do?
I'm not great at computers and so answers with obvious steps would be great!

Are these PDF files that you're attempting to save a .doc (or .docx) files. Preview won't do it. You can use a number of third-party application to accomplish what you want, but none of them are that inexpensive.
The least expensive application may be PDFpen - you can save Word documents from PDF files with it, amongst other things.

Warning when opening a .doc file (with Pages) ruins my applescript convert process

I have 2000 plus documents (some Pages, most .doc) that I need to convert to PDF. I've got a working applescript droplet that converts both doc and pages files very nicely... but on some of the .doc files I get this dialog: "Some warnings occured. Would you like to review them now." This of course, ruins my script run.
Is there a way to suppress this warning when Pages opens a .doc file?

Only if there is a script for dialog boxes in your AppleScript which you would have to tailor for the responses.
You can record snippets of mouse activity using the Script Editor and include those in your script if there are no AppleScript library items.

I want to save a pdf or doc file into oracle 9i. I am using Developer 10 g. Please help me;
1. What datatype field should be in database table to store such file.
2. Which code should I use in Forms 10g to display open file dialog, get the name and save that into database table.

WEBUTIL is a library used with forms to interact with the client. With Forms10G the library comes shipped with the developer suite, for forms 9i i'm not sure, check the forms-page at otn if there is any download available. For documentation about how to do a file-upload, simply search the forum, there are lots of examples.

Save Page As Folder Order is Least Recent, not Alphabetical

When I execute Save Page As from the File menu or type CNTL-S, the order of the Folders presented it the box is Inverse Most Recent, rather than Alphabetical! Windows XP SP3 Laptop with FireFox 4.0.1. I can chose Details and order them alphabetically, but the next time I have the same problem. Checked support pages - Problem Not Found. Just started yesterday. Tried Power Cycling computer to no change. Windows (File) Explorer works just fine.

Converting .docx files from Ipad air to .doc files on imac

I have an imac running 10.6.8 with Word:Mac v.X. I have been operating the XML converter to change docx files to doc files with no problems,--until now. I received a docx file created on an ipad. I put it through the converter but when I opened it, it looked like a picture file and most of the document was missing. I have tried various methods, including itunes, but the results are the same. The only way I have found successful is to send the document to my husband's newer word and have him save it as a doc file and send it back to me. Sending it back as a docx was not successful. Are there any simpler ways to convert these kinds of docx files? Or is my system becoming a dinosaur? Thanks.

Word version X is extremely old. You're going to find yourself making these kind of elaborate workarounds just to get files to open with it. I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to a newer Word (ie, the 2011 version) - that is, if you MUST use Word. If you just want an application that will work with (open and write) Word files, try LibreOffice, which is free.

Pages v4.0 (727) can't open or save .doc files

Hello everyone,
for a while now I haven't been able to open or save .doc files with Pages. When trying to open a .doc file I get the following message:
"The document "example.doc” couldn’t be opened."
I have tried the following to solve the problem:
1. run Software Update, which told me there were no updates available
2. checked my applications folder to see if Pages was in the iWork '09 folder in order for SU to be able to detect updates (it was)
3. reinstalled Pages from the iWork disc and run SU (which again couldn't detect any updates)
4. deleted the com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist file from the Preferences folder in the user library on the Macintosh HD
I'd be very grateful if someone could point me towards a solution, I've spent an age on google looking for one and haven't found anything useful so far.

Are you still on MacOs 10.6.1? You should update it to 10.6.8. Use the Combo update here if the Software Update check doesn't work (which it should) http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

You were right, it was a Microsoft problem.
I got it...I am now able to save a Word 2010 document as a pdf file. Here is what I did/found:
In Word, go to File, Options, Display and make sure that "Print drawing created in word" is CHECKED.
Mine was unchecked and when I checked it everything came back and is working as it did before. The only thing I can think of is that a Microsoft Update may have changed this selection...I know I DID NOT make any changes in the options.
One other thing I noticed in my saved documents folders was that a lot of my files showed up as PDF's and would still not open until I selected one and told it to default to open as a word document and then they all changed back and I was able to open them in word again.
I hope this helps others out there.

This is Naveen. I got stuck up with a problem/doubt. URGENT ! URGENT !
My doubt is how to capture the output of a jsp page(the content is dynamic generated) and save that output to a MS-Word doc file.
I know that therez an option of using Servlets Filters, but this concept is supported by Servlet 2.3 spec. and not earlier. And we are working on previous spec. and our web-servers also supports the prev. version and not the 2.3 version.
If incase, therez a third-party utility for free usage, suggestions are appreciated.
Hope most of them came across this kind of functional requirement. If anyone of them succeeded in this, please express ur bitter experience if any, faced during the coding.

You can set the MIME content type as .doc and try to open the Page.
res.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel"); to generate the Page output as Excel
res.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-word"); to generate the Page output as MS Word doc
