Saving edited and original photo

I know that I can revert to the original image after editing, but I want to keep and be able to see the original and the new edited image. Is this possible in iPhoto 09?
Also, I can't seem to cut a photo from one event and paste it into another event. Am I doing something wrong? I know I can drag it from one event to another, however that gets very tedious if I need to move it a long ways (drag from event to event to get it where I want).

Wait, I'm having trouble with editing my duplicated images. Part of the problem is that I want to do my red-eye reduction in Photoshop (which does a much better job than iPhoto, sadly). Here's my process:
1. In iPhoto, right-click on desired image and choose "Duplicate."
2. Drag duplicate photo from iPhoto window onto Photoshop icon on dock.
3. Perform red-eye reduction in Photoshop, save (overwrite) duplicate file.
When I go back into iPhoto, the Photoshop red-eye reduction appears in the duplicated photo, as intended. However, if I attempt to make additional changes within iPhoto (for instance, adding color effects or edge blur), I lose my beloved Photoshop red-eye reduction!
I thought that when you duplicate a photo in iPhoto, it essentially creates two "originals" -- two independent files. However, my problem would suggest that the duplicate file is still linked to the true original. Is that correct? And if so, is there any way to accomplish what I'm trying to do within iPhoto, or do I have to import a second version of the photo (i.e. drag file from Finder into iPhoto) in order to trick iPhoto into thinking it's a different photo (independent file)?

  • How to edit a original photo saved on my hdd in iPhoto without copying?

I have all my photos organized into folders saved in Pictures on my HDD, and i have unchecked the box in iPhoto which copies them into iPhoto, but what I want to know is how do I edit the original photo? it is edited in iPhoto but not in the original location (that picture is still the old one) i don't really understand why you would want 2 of the same picture, saved in different locations? I want to edit in iPhoto and it change the original! can this be done?? if not what app can?? Thanks!

iPhoto is not a Photo editor. That's what you're looking for. iPhoto will never edit an original file, that's why it's a lossless processor. Photoshop et al are editors, they will change the original file and so are lossy editors. You prefer that way of working so you're best off not using iPhoto at all.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    The Gimp (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Pixelmator ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)

  • LR is "overwriting" some of my photos with other sets of photos. Editing from original photo is still there, same file

I have gone through all of my original folders that are being "over written", none of them share the same folder, file #, etc. I tried re-importing the group of photos that have been covered up by other photos, but they show up as normal thumbnails and already shows that they are imported. A brief blurb popped saying it was overwriting or rewriting the metadata as I would click through the photo strip and watch LR overlay my original photos with other photos from another set. In the bottom photo I attached, photos of Sahalie Falls are replaced by Oregon Coast photos. The editing is obviously there from the previous photo. And for some reason LR has covered them with sideways or even upside down photos (unusual!). Many of my photos have also recently been disconnected from their folder location and have to be reconnected. I have fixed some of them but it goes back through 4 years of photos! This isn't the case for the coast vs Sahalie falls photos, though. Any ideas?

With regards to the disconnected photos, that means you did something to the photos outside of Lightroom, such as rename, move, delete the files; or on Windows it could mean your external hard drive now has a different letter. So depending on what you did, the solution may be
Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
With regards to "wrong" thumbnails, delete your preview cache. This is a folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA and is in the same folder as your catalog. Do not delete the .LRCAT file. You must fix the disconnected photos before this will work.
By the way, Lightroom never overwrites the photos. They remain untouched, even if at the moment they are not displaying properly.
By the way, never re-import. That's NEVER, as in don't even think about it, don't go near it, just don't do it.

  • Editing and organizing photos outside of iphoto

Apple Tech Support tells me that iphoto only works for photos imported via digital camera hookup. I have many photos on my hard drive that were input via CD or email .jpg files. I understand I cannot edit these photos using any software that comes with the Mac, and I have to organize and store them outside of iphoto. Is there any Apple-compatible software other than Adobe Photoshop that I might buy to have more flexibility in editing and organizing all my photos? I am currently using a Mac Mini with the Panther 10.3 OS.

I understand I cannot edit these photos using any software
that comes with the Mac, and I have to organize and store them
    outside of iphoto.
The first part of this statement might be accurate if your mini did not come with GraphicConverter among the bundled applications, but whoever left you with the impression that iPhoto won't accept anything but camera-generated images is misinformed. Launch iPhoto and select iPhoto Help from the Help menu. Enter the phrase "importing photos" in the search window, and have a look.

  • How can I edit and delete photos from my albums? I can't find a way to delete old photos...

Can anyone help me delete photos? There are old blurry and duplicate photos that we are unable to delete...

If photos were synced from your computer then they can't be deleted directly on the iPad, you will need to remove/de-select them from where you synced it from on your computer and re-sync.

  • Export both current and original photos (without dupes)

I want to export a large number of photos from iPhoto. iPhoto lets me export either the "current" version with edits, or the "original" version as imported from the camera.
Most of my photos don't have edits, but I want to export both version for photos that do. If I just run the export twice, once for current and once for original, I'll end up with a bunch of duplicate photos.
Is there a way to export all the current photos, plus the originals but ONLY when the original is different (i.e., the photo has been edited)?

Export the originals for all photos.
Then create a smart album with the rule "Photo is Edited".
For the photos in this album export a full sized JPEG version of the edited photo-
    Added:
Kind "Current" will give you the current preview image. The quality is not as good as exporting the original. That is why I recommend to export with "Kind Original" for all photos and "Kind JPEG, Full Size, High Quality" for the edited photos to save the edited versions as well.

  • Adobe acrobat reader 9 problem saving forms and copying photos

I used adobe acrobat reader 6 at
work and I have a form that I save with new data. I am also able to copy text and photos using version 6.
When I try to save edited forms and copy files from versiion 9 It wont allow me to do that.
Is their any way that I can copy text, photos and save forms in Adobe version 9?
When I try to save forms in version 9 it states that I am unable to save the form. When I try to copy text or photos it will not allow me to copy.

Are you talking about Reader or Acrobat. These are two different programs and Reader definitely has restrictions. Reader used to be called Acrobat Reader before version 6, but that has been gone a long time. The change was likely because of the confusion between Acrobat and Reader. The problems you indicate are suggestive of Reader, not of Acrobat.

  • Editing and emailing photos from iPhoto

I am using Mac 10.6 with iPhoto 7.1.
I was emailing and editing photos until about an hour ago and suddenly I can't do either. I don't know what could have happened.
    Please help!
    Thanks....

Larry HN...Yes, I select a photo, click it and then click either EDIT or MAIL.
If I click edit, the thumbnails appear across the top and if I select mail, the drop down asks which size I want and I select that. Then, when the final drop down is supposed to appear...it drops and immediately goes back up. If I selected EDIT, the edit button (and the others) go gray.
Tomorrow I'm bringing my Mac in to the store. I stopped there today and they couldn't help me without seeing it.
If I hadn't been mailing photos right before this happened, I'd say I was doing something wrong. But it was working fine.
I'll let you know what they tell me!

  • Books and Original Photos

Is there any way to scale a photo one way for a slideshow and crop it another way for a book without changing the original or making a copy of it?

Simply create a new version in Aperture for each layout and crop it as needed.
When you create a new version in Aperture, you're only creating a new set of 'settings' for processing and exporting the file, so it only takes a few Kb of storage. You're not actually duplicating the image several times (unless you're working on versions of tiff or PSDs).

  • How To Edit And Delete Photo's & Video's

So after buying my new 5G video i rushed home and started to try and fill her up. In doing so i have added over 1000 pics but when i look through them on the ipod they are in no order. Question 1 is how do i edit or sort or even delete them now that they are on my ipod.
2nd question would be for my vidios that i have in my itunes libary. How do i delete them.
Hope someone can help this ipod newbie out. I really wanna know how to do all the cool stuff iv been reading about.
    Thanks
PC   Windows 2000   Its Fackin Old

On a PC i'm not sure about photo organization. are your photos in some type of different folders? You can have iTunes sync them according to folder i believe.
As for your second question you should be able to just click on the video and hit the "delete" key and it will ask you if you want to delete it. You should also be able to right click and delete it as well.

  • Why does iPhoto 11 show both modified and original photo files for items I've never modified?

I have been looking through some recent photos and noticed that File > Reveal in Finder displays a modified and an original file for images I've never modified.  The originals are in subdirectory iphoto > Masters and the Modified files are in subdir iphoto > previews.  This appears to happen strictly with photos taken on my iphone.  Any ideas?  It's eating up a fair amount of HD space, for no reason as far as I can tell.

#1 is patently untrue; I go in there all the time via File > Reveal in Finder so that I can grab images to pull into other applications, mail clients etc.
Actually it is patently true - what you are doing is not supported, is not necessary and is dangerous - you should only access the photos using the supported methods
#2 - I thought maybe that was it too but it's on images both vertical as well as horizontal.  There's even images in there that are just still frames of videos taken on iphone.
2 - the most common cause of un-expected "modified" versions is having the autorotate feature set on your camera - this causes a rotate flag to be set so that when yu import iPhoto does that and as always keeps the original and keeps the rotated version as mopdified
Given that you provided no information about your work flow one can only guess at common reasons
The jpeg preview of each video is also a modified version - as to why both vertical (portrait) and horizonal (Landscape) photos would have modified versions more information would be needed - the most likely cause is that you have made changes of some sort to them

  • Saving editing and synchronising with desktop iPhoto

I have synced my phone with I tunes and it pushed every single photo on my computer.  I do not wish to have the entire album on my phone, only select photos.  How do I delete photos?

Thank you for the reply.  So, I guess I have to reset my phone in order to get rid of all the photos that I uploaded via the sync method on I tunes.  Pre planning is required for what photos you want to have uploaded.
