Saving Numbers Spreadsheet

Excel opens at the exact saved row and cell position, is there a way of saving Numbers to do this?

There lies a major problem.
OpenOffice spreadsheets and similar Office Software such as Neo exhibit the same erratic Apple Mighty Mouse behaviour, with unwanted cell moves etc my work was ruined when using these office suites.
Whereas the Apple Mighty Mouse is very stable and works very smoothly in iWorks 08 Numbers.
With the Neo Office suite installed, I was obliged to use two mice, a Microsoft mouse for Neo spreadsheet as this was stable when doing spreadsheet work and the Apple Mighty Mouse for Aperture. The Mighty Mouse is brilliant when viewing photo's in Aperture, the delicate touch of the scroll is a delight to use.
I was unable to adjust the Apple mouse operating characteristics when using the third party office software and loath to use the Microsoft mouse.
I am now free of Microsofts hardware and software, I much prefer the Apple product over all others.

  • Saving Numbers spreadsheet with password.

How do I save a Numbers spreadsheet with a password to encrypt it? With Microsoft excel, it is quite easy and part of the "Save as" box, but I can't see how to do this in Numbers, and nothing in the help function either.

    Hello
    Welcome to the club.
The response was given many times in the forum.
So, use the search tool in the Numbers forum with the keywords "disk image" or "encrypted"

  • How can I recover a numbers spreadsheet.  When I saved as a template, my original file was replaced with the saved version.

I save a numbers spreadsheet as a template and I lost my original document.  How can I recover the original spreadsheet?

If the file you saved as a template no longer contains any data then I have no more suggestions other than restoring a backup copy.
Have you looked for the original file? did you use spotlight?

  • How do I get numbers spreadsheets to open at the last entry?

I work with Numbers spreadsheets often and find it very frustrating that on opening a document it opens at the top rather than at the last place of entry. My frustration is that some of the spreadsheets I work with are fairly long and require me to then scroll down a long way to pick up the spot I want to work in. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance

    Hi Barry,
the view scale bug was on the list for an early fix
Fixed in the latest update (Numbers 3.0.1)
Numbers > Preferences > General > Default Zoom:
And it sticks with a document after Save . Reopen shows the Saved view.

  • Sharing Numbers spreadsheet with others so they can make slight changes?

I created a Numbers spreadsheet and saved it to iCloud with a password. I want to share it with 2 other people and allow them to make simple changes to the spreadsheet.
    1. Do they need to log in to iCloud to make changes to the spreadsheet that I shared?
    2. How do they save their changes after making them? I just checked the link created when sharing the spreadsheet and I didn't see a save button in the browser.
    3. Which browsers will others be able to view/edit the spreadsheet in? Will it also work on PC?
    Thanks!

You can create a "master" path and then link all of the other paths to that one with an expression. You don't even need to write the expression yourself; you can just Alt-click the Mask Path property stopwatch for a child mask and drag the expression pick whip to the master Mask Path property. You can link the paths of shape layers the same way.

  • How do I  save a Numbers spreadsheet as an ASCII spreadsheet

I need to convert an Appleworks spreadsheet to a Numbers spreadsheet and then save it as an ASCII file in order to upload it to my internet site.
Conversion of the AW SS to Numbers is no problem. However, unlike AW, there is no selection I can make in the "Save As" menu to save the Numbers file as an ASCII.
    Any suggestions?

    Peggy:
As you suggested, I copied and pasted my 450 row Numbers table into Pages (12 pages in total) and then converted it to text - I saved it to my desktop and renamed the file with a ".txt" tag. Then I uploaded to the server.
The result when seen on the net is a page with 10 offices with total sales volume, units sold, etc. However, using the above procedure, while I do get the names of the 10 offices, I get no numbers.
If any of you wish to contact my by email, I will direct you Peggy, Jerry and Brie, to the site to see the present result and future effort results.
Thank you for your time and efforts.

  • Can't Open Numbers spreadsheets in iCloud

I'm hoping someone can help me ... I have some numbers spreadsheets saved in iCloud.  When I go to open them, it says that the file can't be opened, whether I try to access it from my Mac or from the Icloud website.  I was able to get a preview of some of the documents so at least i can start over, but one document is password protected and I can't get it to open.  I've tried saving it to my desktop, changing the extension, looking at the permissions, and no luck.  This is so frustrating!  I do have a time machine back up but since this is stored on the cloud I'm not sure if it would have saved a file on the machine.
Any advice appreciated, I saved things on iCloud to ensure that if my computer crashed I'd still have access and it seems that was not the right thing to do!
    Thanks much.

Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers normally wouldn't show up in a Spotlight search. But you should be able to find it in Finder by holding down the option key and choosing Library from the Go menu.
If it's not there then that suggests you haven't been successful in activating iCloud sync on your Mac. You might check setttings in two places in System Preferences > iCloud.
Documents and Data must be checked:
AND, after clicking 'Option...', this Numbers.app must be checked:
If these two boxes are both checked and you're still having trouble then try signing out of iCloud and back in.

  • Saving Numbers Files

Unlike Snow Leopard, Lion takes for ever to close even a simple Numbers spreadsheet after the spreadsheet has been modified, even by altering the data in only one cell.
I have waited over 1 minute whilst the spinning wheel spins and eventually the window closes after the red window "close" button has been pressed.
I assume this is an unwanted effect of AutoSave and it completely destroys the productive use of Numbers in  busy office environment and makes AutoSave a complete nuisance.
Does any one know if AutoSave can be disabled or put in the Trash bin?
The only solution I have found to this problem of protratcted closure times is to:
    1.  Duplicate your spreadsheet  (it closes immediately when the red "close"  button is clicked.
    2.  The resulting saved spreadsheet is saved as a copy.
    3.  Delete the original spreadsheet (unless you want to keep it as a duplicate)
    4.  Re-title the copy back to the title of the original spreadsheet.
Job done - but what a complete waste of time.
Closing a Numbers spreadsheet on Snow Leopard is infinitely faster and better.
Any help on this problem would be most gratefully received
    Thanks.

Tks to all for the comments.  Spent time with the Apple Store folk today and, after much experimentation with the guys, we established that source of problem appeared to be Kaspersky Anti Virus 2011.
Turning KAV off restored Lion response speeds when closing files.  Problem thought to be a mismatch between Autosave and Kav.
Thought I'd post this in case others hit a similar problem.
Strangely enough though the problem doesn't occur with my other MacBook Pro also running Lion and KAV 2011 - very strange!  Ah well .....!

  • Saving numbers

I have a question regarding use of the Numbers spreadsheet; Would someone please answer it?
The first time you create a Numbers document you can upgrade (load) from an previously saved Appleworks spreadsheet, I wonder if you can also save your Numbers spreadsheet into Appleworks format?
    Thanks,
    Greg

Numbers is able to import an AppleWorks 6 spreadsheet not to export to this format.

  • I have accidentally deleted a Numbers spreadsheet. Is there any way to recover it?

I have accidentally deleted a Numbers spreadsheet. Is there any way to recover it?

    Hi ilpchow,
    Ok, Undo does't work.
    Try Step 2:
Menu > File > Revert To > Last Saved
If that doesn't work, try the other suggestions.
I hope you did Save sometime .
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Can't save Numbers spreadsheet

When I reorganize a numbers spreadsheet, I can't save the file. I get an error message saying that "it cannot be saved." Using "save as" generates the same error. Anybody have a clue what's going on? I'm using an iMac (intel) with OSX 10.6.7.

It's a relatively new computer and came with OSX 10.6.7.
    I'm using Numbers 09, ver 2.0.5.
This is a spreadsheet that I created in Numbers. It has eight sheets that are interconnected. The formulas are not complex. I've used some conditional formatting in the header rows. I'm also using footer rows. There are simple graph charts (not 3D) based on spreadsheet data, but no other graphics. I did not use any links or shapes or other graphics. I would call it a simple multi-page spreadsheet with simple graphs.
At the moment it is not a large spreadsheet. Each sheet has no more than 15 rows and columns.
I can't find anything that would cause a save failure after reorganizing. It's puzzling and very annoying.

  • Linking a numbers spreadsheet in a keynote page

I created and saved a spreadsheet in Numbers.
I copy a portion of a spreadsheet in numbers.
I then paste it on a page in Keynote.
    I save the Keynote file.
I then make changes in Numbers.
The changes do not show in Keynote.
There is no REFRESH button anywhere in keynote.
Event when i select the linked spreadsheet in keynote.

Thanks Michael. I am finding this really hard to explain even though it's so simple. I have my passwords on a numbers spreadsheet. I password protected it. Every time I try to open it on my macbook it asks for a password. This is what I want. I open it, I update it. I close it, I want to update it again, it asks for the password again, I input the password, I update the sheet, I close it. I dont close it by opening another sheet or not worrying about it because my laptop is password protected, I hit the "X" in the top rught hand corner and close it.
Now, on my ipad I cannot do the equivlemt of clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner as the "X" does not appear on Numbers on the iPad?
That is my question, not how to mask it by opening another sheet or looking for a work around like password protecting the iPad so it doesn't matter that the spreadsheet is still open. Just, how do I Close (X out) of a Numbers spreadsheet when it's open in my iPad?
I would really appreciate anyone helping me on this and thank you to the 2 people who have tried.

  • How to upload numbers spreadsheet to icloud

Trouble uploading current numbers spreadsheet to cloud.  How do I upload spreadsheet to cloud to access it on all of my devices

Hi CowGirl, are you really a cowgirl from Southern Dixie  ?  LOL.
Ok i have now learned a lot more about this saving a Numbers file to the cloud, in the version of Numbers i have, there is not a Save As option, i looked in the Help File and to do anything like Save As you have to first File/Duplicate and Save as from there, but this idea does not give access to the LIBRARY.
However through searching around more diligently i found that to get a Numbers file (and a Pages file as well no doubt) up onto the Cloud, so it can be edited by any of your devices, you simply need to drag the file, from the finder window onto the iiCloud/iWork/Numbers web page !, it really is as easy as that.
    Thanks for helping young lady.
