Scanned pdf image into Illustrator (Live Tracing,filling colors and styles)

Hi,
I am a newbie in the forum.My first ever post. I have specific issue which needs your opinion. I have scanned a black and white sketch image which I bring on to Illustrator. The problem start after live tracing.
After live tracing I need to fill it with a certain color (which I find absent in swatches).
I have to update these sketches into an Indesign brochure which already has the original imported Illustrator sketches (done by some one else). So the original imported Illustrator sketch files have a color filled in and particular chalk like impression (style).
So the problem is that I do not know how to fill the live traced sketch outlines with a color and then bring in a chalk like style to it.
I need assistance badly..I have hit a bad road block.

I have never used the live paint feature, sorry.
I typically always create everything with the pen tool, and some basic shapes, I draw a shape and then fill it with a color, gradient, or a stroke. This can see limiting at first not using a lot of filters but in the long run the precision control is worth it. I design entire websites this way, for example these are two sites I am currently working on….

No, Acrobat Pro is expensive
95% of all the professional scanned in books are in PDF, the entire structure and countless years of work have gone into Acrobat being not just the "best" standard for scanned books, but really the ONLY standard for them.
Yes, many many little programs can convert to PDF after you have them in a file, or even from Safari you can "print as PDF" or "save as PDF"
however it just saves them as PDF, and you can use Acrobat READER for free,....
but Reader is just that, a reader, you cannot do pro editing, scale down the file size etc etc, signatures, portfolios etc.
Ive got a 42 Terabyte collection of PDF books,.....Ive spent too much time staring at PDF books LoL.

Export makes use of what is "in" a PDF.
Good export is the "silk purse" and, ya know, you canna make a silk purse from a sow's ear (which is what any scanned image in PDF is with regards to export).
The quality of export is dictated by the quality of the PDF. We are taking about the "inner essences" of the PDF (e.g., degree of compliance with the PDF Standard - ISO 32000-1).
So, what goes in goes out or "GIGO".
This has nothing to do with Acrobat or Acrobat's export process.
A well-formed Tagged PDF (compliant to ISO 32000-1 & ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1) provides a PDF that proactively
supports content export by Acrobat.
To get the good stuff from export you start with a well-formed Tagged PDF.

How to import PDF image into Pages manuscript that is larger than the text bed margins

How do I import a PDF image into a Pages book manuscript, whose dimensions are larger than the global text bed margins? Any imported PDF image is automatically shrunk to fit within the text bed. I know I can set up a single page with wider margins and a text bed within it, but I want the image to import to a page already within the manuscript sequence, where the text bed margins are set and constant.

By default it should be dragging in as a floating image and not part of the text.
What version of Pages are you using?
In Pages 5 this is:
Format > Arrange > Object Placement > Stay on Page > Size > Original size

Photoshop images into Illustrator

I want to use a shape created in Photoshop with a style applied.When I bring it into Illustrator, apply Live Trace, the style disappears.
How can I keep the style intact?

Just to confirm that I am proceeding correctly - I created the image in Photoshop, converted the layer with the object to smart object, placed it into Illustrator.
My observation is that the object does retain the appearance I need, but I can't select the object, as in Expand in Live Trace or Direct Seclect or Selection tool.
I will be using this image as a logo that I will be needing in a variey of sizes.
Any other tips you have for me?

How do I place a large format image into Illustrator

I am trying to place a large format image that I created in Photoshop into Illustrator. I have tried PSD, TIFF, and JPG. I have even cropped down the image into smaller portions to try to make it easier to work with. Every time I try to Place the image I get a dialogue box saying,"The file 'Water 1.jpg' is in an unknown format and cannot be opened.' Can anyone help with this?

I would guess the file is simply too big. Make sure the document is in RGB mode. If I were you, I would never submit a file that size at 300ppi for large format. Large or grand format printers only need around 100 to 144ppi at 100% final size. Also, set the Illustrator file up at 25% scale and place the image at 25% @ 300ppi ( image resolution ends up around 75ppi which is still plenty when enlarged 400% to final size ). Getting back to the original error message, it could be the system is running out of both RAM and scratch disk space and cannot deal with the preview required. Better to scale the file down for large format.

Scanned PDF Images show up black in ScreenSaver Mode

In the past I've scanned random images, converting them to PDF files and adding them to a folder of photos to be used as a screensaver on my Mac, but the latest batch (on a new iMac, operating Mac OS X, v. 10.5.4 w/a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory), scanned using Adobe Reader v. 9, now show up solid black rather than the scanned image. For instance, older PDF files and JPEG photos show up, but the latest images, when cross-faded between the older ones, are displayed as solid black rather than the new image. The image appears when I open each document individually (so I know they were scanned correctly)...just not when accessed by the screensaver. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

What colour profile are these pics? Greyscale? iPhoto supports RGB, which is what cameras shoot in. Convert the pics to RGB and they will will display correctly.
You can change the Colour Profile of a photo in the Tools menu in Preview.

Placing deep etched images into Illustrator

I am having problems when placing a deep etched image file into Illustrator CS2 from Photoshop CS2. When I place the file into Illustrator, it is not recognising the working path on the file, and is just coming in with a transparent rectangular background. This is a problem because I then have to place this Illustrator file into Framemaker, and when I print tiny dots are appearing around the image file (which I think is the background of the image that has been deep etched out). If anyone could help I would be very grateful. Thank you

Not saying it cant be scripted but what about just via the Illustrator "Select" menu:

Select > Same > Fill & Stoke

How to convert an pdf image into a jpeg

I just purchased export pdf and I'm trying to convert from pdf to word or ppt. The pdf is an image / logo that I want to make a jpeg. I used the export utility and keep getting random characters and not an image. I'm guessing it's looking for text. Do I have the right utility?

I don't see converting to Word as the right way to go if you want a picture.
Instead, view in Adobe Reader as large as possible, take a screen shot, paste in PAINT.

I have moved the legacy Twain plug-in into the Plug-Ins folder, but the "File > Import" menu still just shows "Frame from Video".

You can scan directly into the Organizer but need to do the set-up in Prefs from the Organizer menu:
Edit >> Preferences >> Scanner
Then use the menu:
File >> Get Photos >> From Scanner (Ctrl+U)
Your scanner software should open on top of the Organizer interface.

How do I save IRS pdf forms so that I can fill in and save the data

when I downlaod a US government IRS form I am unable to fill in the form, save the data and print, I have tried saving as a pdf from the print menu and using the tools menu none of which works

I know there is an app called PDFPen that is supposed to fill in PDF forms. PDFPen is available in the App Store, but it is not free.
I have no financial interest in PDFPen. I also don't know if there is some cheaper way to fill in the forms.

Save as pdf/image does not work. It runs and runs ... Getting no output

In APEX 4.0 i have several Charts (Version 5.1.3).
If i try to save them to PDF or to an image file the request runs and runs and don't come back with a result.
Any ideas?

Hi Hillary,
i can choose the file name and the destination for the PDF and when i confirm with the save button the page shows "Saving ..." and nothing happens.
In the target destination i see that there is a file (FlashTmp0.tmp) with ~ 2.49 KB.
I copied the page with chart to a new one but i have the same problem with it.
But wait. I opened this FlashTmp0.tmp file and i saw that there is a attempt to access anychart.com which is denied by our firewall.
Will the PDF be generated by the anychart.com page?
And what i also established is when i delete some conditions in my SQL query the creation of the pdf works. F.e. in dial chart i have this query which works with pdf if i comment out the last (or more) line(s):

Putting an image into a jtextpane / problems with ImageIcon and path

So here is what I am trying to do. I would like to be able to allow the user to add images to a jtextpane which will also contain rtf text.
My current plan is to have a drag event or some other event run the actual code to place the image in the jtextpane. So my first attempt was just to first write a test program to add an image to a textpane using a hard coded path. The problem is i cant seem to create an imageicon using a canonical path because the image icon constructor wants a relative path(from the docs).
So i guess the best solution would be to convert the canonical path to a relative path. I have this forum and google many times and found many similar posts but none with a real solution (people just reply, why would you want to do that etc.).
So i either need to convert the path or if any one has a better suggestion to allow users to add images to the jtextpane. Any suggestions?

Is there a way to: Export images from DICOM media into Illustrator?

I am trying to find a way to automatically import sets of images from DICOM media (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) into Illustrator. To be more specific I need to load up about 20 heart-slice images from DICOM CDs or any other type of archival systems into Illustrator.
These MRI DICOM clips show slices of the heart pulsating in systole (when the heart is the smallest ) and diastole (when the heart is largest) and phases in-between (systole and diastole are two time phases of the heart cycle, represented by time numbers), at various topographical locations (these would represented by slice numbers, or space numbers). I would like to be able to input the number of the slices (space numbers) in systole and diastole (time numbers) and then with the push of a button to import the respective jpeg images into Illustrator.

I played a little with live trace in CS5. Seems to do quite a good job if I had the right contrast between the blood (white stuff) and the myocardium (the dark circular wall surrounding the white round area). Picture one is the contrasted picture taken off a dicom medium (these media allow adjusting the contrast very well). Left ventricle is the smiley face on the right of image. The right ventricle is on the left, kind of D shaped. The second picture is the live trace image (with "make and expand" selection). I selected the image with the "direct selection tool (A)", then used the live trace with make and expand. The tracing can not be seen here, but it is very accurate.
The third image is the same MRI image as in picture one without contrast adjustment. Live trace did bad - fourth picture.
