Scanning fails to recognize page size in Acrobat X

My HP 8500 Pro Premier All-in-one scanner has a 14" flatbed. Even though the paper size parameter is "letter", the scan results in the 8.5x14 image being reduced to the 8.5x11 paper size.
How do you specify that you only want to use 11" (cropping) of the 14" bed AND want a one to one scale to the output letter-sized PDF document?
The announcement/discussion similar to this problem does not answer this problem. The menu chains shown do not exist for the HP8500. There is a big difference in behavior between the WIA and TWAIN options. When I change the resolution from 200 to 600 dpi and start a scan, my Windows 7 64-bit system locks up and I have to do a hard power cycle to reboot.
So far "Show Scanner's Native Interface" option MUST be set to make any progress.

I was able to get one scanned page to print with perfect margins, but double sided scanned sheet produced shrunken image. Here is the sequence to reproduce the problem:
Open (execute) "HP Solution Center" (ver 140.0.18.23)
1L-click on "Scan Document, wait ~1 min for it to respond
Set "Scan Shortcut Settings"
     Scan Type: Document
          1L-click on "Advanced Document Settings"
Select output resolution -> choose any (600)
               Check "Sharpen"
Check "Automatically crop scanned documents" (THIS IS A CRITICAL CHOICE)
               1L-click "OK"
Select "Output Type" -> choose any
Select "Scan To" -> choose "Save to file"
Select "File Type" -> choose "PDF (*.pdf)"
1L-click on "Save to file SaveOptions"
Select "File Type" -> choose "PDF (*.pdf)"
                    Enter a "Base File Name"
                    Enter a "Save Location"
                    1L-click on "OK"
under "Button Settings", check "Show a preview scan"
               1L-click "Save Shortcut"
                    Enter shortcut name
                    Enter abbreviated name
                    1L-click "Save"
1L-click on "Scan"
wait for scan to complete
wait for image to be processed
flip original in flatbed scanner
1L-click on "Add/Delete" icon
     1L-click on "Add Page(s)"
     wait for scan to complete
wait for image to be processed
note image information (lower right-hand corner) is about 8.21x10.64 inches
Sometimes the image will need to be rotated (1L-click on "rotate" icon, 1L-click
           on "rotate left" (or right)
1L-click on "Finish"
wait for image to be finalized and written to file
go to directory to where file was saved to (Windows Explorer)
open with Acrobat Reader 10.1.3
1L-click on top bar icon "Fit one full page to window"
(IMAGES SHOW EXACT MARGINS AS SCANNED)
1L-click on printer icon
1L-click on "Advanced"
     check "Print as Image"
     1L-click on "OK"
under "Size Options"
     1L-click on "Fit"
check "Print on both sides of paper"
under "Comments & Forms
     select "Document"
(PRINT PREVIEW SHOWS IMAGE WITH ORIGINAL MARGINS)
1L-click on "Print"
wait for both sides to be printed
(BOTH SIDES ARE PRINTED WITH THE HEIGHT COMPRESSED BY 1" (0.5" WHITESPACE
TOP & 0.5" WHITESPACE BOTTOM) EVEN THOUGH IF YOU ONLY SCAN ONE
PAGE AND THEN PRINT IT, THE PAGE IS PRINTED WITH THE CORRECT MARGINS)
The display of the page shows the size to be 68.40x88.67in! (lower left corner). How did it get enlarged?
Similar results were obtained using Readiris Pro 11 with one additional clue: In the print veiw when you have a double sided source, the print image is inside the image of a spiral bound notebook. Is this the reason the image is shrunk? By the scanner or the print application?
Both the HP Printer Control Language (PCL) (the only language supported by HP 8500 printer) and Adobe Postscript language (PS) (used by .pdf files) have a scale command.
If the scanner inserts a scale command between pages and the printer driver (or the application used to print the file) does not have an option to remove it, that would explain this problem.
I'll go to bed now - oh wait, it's time to go to work!

  • How do I make a custom page size in Acrobat X pro?

I downloaded a gigantic trial version of Acrobat X pro to create a full PDF book cover. I was
unable to figure out how to make the program do anything at all. The help file and forums did
not give me the information I needed. Eventually I was able to use 4 other programs in
combination to create a .doc version of the cover but now I need to turn it into a PDF.
Can somebody please tell me how to, or how to find out how to, create a custom page size in
Acrobat X Pro and import a Word document into that page size.
Alternatively perhaps someone could tell me where I can download an earlier, hopefully more
    usable, version of Acrobat.

As you have discovered, Acrobat is not a creation or editing tool. It is a program to create a final archive of a document from another application that is readable on most platforms. There have been several tools added to Acrobat to provide more functionality for forms and such, but it was never intended for the creation process.
Now that you have created your cover in WORD, an appropriate place to create it, you would simply print the page to the Adobe PDF printer. You should change the printer in WORD before the conversion and check the page to be sure that it is still what you wanted. This check is needed for versions prior to OFFICE 2007 that used printer metrics by default. Since OFFICE 2007, printer metrics have been turned off by default.
If the page does not come out correctly (like is 8.5X11 letter or an A-4 page), then enter the printer properties before printing and set a custom page size there to match your WORD document. I assume the WORD document has the desired size. The printer property change is like putting the correct paper in the printer before printing. Sometimes it seems to sense the application setting, and yet at other times is seems to need to be set.

  • Change page size in Acrobat Pro 6.0

Hello, I'm wondering if there's a way to change page sizes in Acrobat Pro 6.0 for Windows. We are receiving manuscripts which have been assembled from various documents. They're going to be printed at 8.5 x 11, but sometimes some of the pages are 7 x 10. Is there an automated way to change all the 7 x 10 pages to 8.5 x 11? We don't want to have to do each page individually because there are too many of them.
    Many thanks,
    Coral

You could try printing to a new PDF with the PDF printer, setting the page size to 8.5 x 11 and setting the page scaling option to 'Fit to Printable Area'.  This will hopefully leave the existing 8.5 x 11 ones about the same size (it may shrink them slightly) and scale the other sizes.

  • Acrobat 9.5 Pro now FAILS to detect page size differences if the Trim Box is set

Previous versions of Acrobat and even of Acrobat 9.x would flag pages whose "size or orientation is different" if the actual media box size was different from page to page. However, it seems that 9.5 now will not flag a document that has pages without a trim box whose media box matches pages with a trim box that are larger.
This is completely counter-intuitive, as these pages would print at different sizes. Not all devices use the trim box setting in a PDF.
Can someone explain what changed in Acrobat between then and now and if there is a way to change it back?
    Thank you.

    1) Opened PDF where most of the pages have all page boxes set to zero, with media box (true page size) set to 6" x 9". One subset of pages has a media box of 6.25" x 9.25", but the trim box is set to 0.125" on all sides.
    2) Ran a preflight profile with the option "Page size or orientation differs from page to page" set to "Error", as it has been on all previous versions of Acrobat.
    3) "Page size or orientation differs from page to page" error does not get triggered.
    4) Tried same preflight profile settings on same PDF in Acrobat 7. Error does get triggered.
    5) Tried same preflight profile settings on same PDF on a copy of Acrobat 9 not fully updated to 9.5. Error does get triggered.
    6) Tried on various machines with 9.5 update. Error does not get triggered on any.
I can only conclude that something has changed in the latest update.

  • Cannot change page size with acrobat

I am able to convert my manuscript in Mac word(2011) to adobe acrobat (XI); unfortunately the 6 X 9 " page size does not convert. I spent a few hours on the phone with adobe support and the final resolution was to upload the file to them and they converted it for me. however, they used distiller which reduced the file size and appears to have affected the many images. Does anyone have any advice? The best I have been able to glean online is work with inDesign to change page size.

    Thanks.
The problem was with the paper size. In addition to change the page size I needed to change the paper size in the print option before selecting save Adobe PDF.
From Word go to File> Print
Open the Copies & Pages dropdown
    Select Paper Handling
Check the Scale to fit paper size box
Open the Destination Paper Size list
    Select your custom 6x9 Preset
    Click the PDF button
Select either Save as PDF or Save as Adobe PDF
The unfortunate thing is that I was able to do this initially, but when I went back to replicate it adobe is creating 2 files one with my cover page and the rest to the manuscript. Luckily my initial copy was good. Thanks again for your help.

  • View page size in Acrobat 8?

I use both version 6 and version 8 in Acrobat for Windows. One of the reasons I haven't given up using Acrobat 6 on my workstation is that I can see the page size at the bottom left of each page in the single page view. I can't figure out how to get this displayed in Acrobat 8, nor find it in a help screen or among these forums. Anyone have any advice?

I am not sure, but I think you just move the mouse down to the lower left of the window and you get a popup. At least that is the way AA7 works. It is no longer displayed by default.
By the way, you are really asking a question that in the future you should put in the forum and not the feature request area. If you got a negative answer in the forum and felt it was a needed feature, then here is the correct place to come.
Hope I answered your question in any case. It had been answered a long time ago in the forum, but may not be in the archives any more. I will agree that I can't find it in the help menu either. I may just not be looking for the correct thing.

  • Custom page size in Acrobat Pro.

I have a custom page size microsoft word doc on a Mac computer. When I create this 5.76 x 8.76 document into a PDF using Acrobat Pro, it makes an 8.5 x 11.5 document. I am sending this to a book printer, so I need the precise document size. How do I do this? Thank you.

    Hi ad48096742,
Please check out this tutorial about creating PDFs with custom page sizes: https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-create-a-custom-page-size.

  • Change page size in Acrobat

I'm working on a newsletter in Acrobat that is 8.5x11, and I need to change the page size to 8.5x14 to fit all of the content and print the larger page. Is there any way to do this in Acrobat? Thanks.

If you just select that paper size and choose Fit in the print dialog the application will do it for you.
If you want to actually scale the page to the new size, including all the content in it, you would need to use an imposition plugin or script.

  • Can't process a batch with different page sizes. - Acrobat X Std / Windows 7 Ent. / Fujitsu-fi-6140

    Hi Test Screen Name,
While reproducing the problem I realized I was in error as to how far in the sequence the problem occured. I actually do get as far as batch creating PDF,. The only difference there is that I can no longer "drag and drop" files in the batch create window. I have to use the "Add files..." command in the upper left of the batch create window.
So, the application batch creates the files. Afterward, I use the Action Wizard to batch "Password Protect" the files. It is during this command run that the error occures. (Note: I am trying to save over the old files by having them save to the same directory under the same name, just like I used to be able to do.) The error I get is:
    Action Completed.
    Saved to: \\HOME\path-to-original-files\
    Warning/Errors
The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document in a different
    Document: Name of document1.pdf
    Output: Name of document1.pdf
The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document in a different
    Document: Name of document2.pdf
    Output: Name of document2.pdf
The error message loops through all the documents. I don't have the documents open or in use. By default they shouldn't be "read-only". This all did not occure when I previously used the application with Windows XP.
I have not yet tried saving them to a different directory. I will try that later today. (I didn't want to have a lot of versions of the same documents, it tends to be confusing.)
    Thank you for your reply,
    TPK

  • PSE7 Editor fails to recognize screen size. Can this be reset?

The editor program in PSE7 does not properly recognize the screen size of my monitor.  Some photos and parts of menus fall outside the viewable area to the right side.  How can this be fixed? Can some setting be easily changed?  Do I need to reload some part of the program?

    Hi,
First of all, the physical size of the screen is not really relevant. If the resolution is set to 1920 x 1080, it still has the same number of pixels whether the screen is 22" or 24". The editor will also work on smaller screens, down to 1024 x 768 I think.
Does your screen look anything like this?
If you screen looks like that, thedouble click I spoke of earlier should be done where the red arrow is.
A screenshot of your screen might help.
The size and position of the window can normally be controlled by windows - the editor will supply a starting point but you should have control over the window.
Have you ever used an additional monitor?
    Brian
ps. Sorry, but I can only go to PSE 9 but I think PSE 7 should be similar

  • Reader 9- Cant seem to keep ' Choose paper by PDF Page Size' uncheck -online doc

We have been looking at this for a long time.  If a certain posted doc gets printed and the Choose paper by PDF Page Size is checked, it breaks the users profile.  We have made that change on the doc before posting it but users still have the issue.  Also we have had users make the change locally but it doesnt 'keep' the setting.
Is there a way (GP or script) to force at the user session level?
This has been killing us for months.  My searches didnt yield any solutions either....

In order to get help you need to provide more detail about your settings. Perhaps the margins for the paper size you have chosen have print margins that leave a smaller print area than you think. In combination with this is there some sort of "scale to fit" set somewhere?
So what size paper are you printing to, and what is your document page size in Acrobat 7? I have the same printer and may be able to help if you provide more detail.

  • Xerox 7830 fails to obey "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro -- Adobe issue or Xerox issue? Workaround?

Our former office printer (Xerox 7345) had no problem with this. But the new Xerox 7830 fails to obey the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro. Even the "Page Setup" is overridden by the Xerox printer driver. It is extremely annoying to have to go into the Xerox driver dialog every time, regardless of that check in the box and the correct dimensions being displayed in the picture.....

Unfortunately, not only does this not solve the problem with multi-page-size documents, but it's begun happening on files which are all one size as well, where that box isn't even checked.
It appears that what's happening is the newer versions of Adobe Acrobat don't play nicely with emulated postscript support past a certain date. We're replacing our Canon with a newer model that has actual postscript support, and if that resolves the issue I'll be certain to post confirmation here. Copies of Adobe Acrobat 7 and 8 in our office haven't seen this problem at all; it's simply everyone who has upgraded past that point that can't print reliably.
More news next week, after we get the new copier.

Or do we need to request for any extra permissions for the same?

I don't see applets mentioned in the supported features nor in the unsupported features so not sure if they are supported you would likely need to contact the operations team to confirm.

  • Change page size in PDF (Acrobat 9)

I have created a PDF file and under document properties it says that the default page size is 11.69 x 8.26 in.  I want to change this to A3, but cannot find the option or any help on this.
The PDF was created using the PDF printer from an application that normally only prints to A3.  This created a separate PDF file for each sheet of the document, which I then combined using the combine option in Acrobat.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
