SCCM 2012 and 2012 sp1 client cache not cleaning itself

I work on a University campus that deploys 100's of software titles to lab computers.  Since last summer, we have been using Config Man 2012 and upgraded to 2012 SP1 in early Jan.  Recently we started noticing 160GB hard drives filling up in locations
that get most of our software.  When looking into it, the ccmcache folder has 50GB+ of data in it even though the cache size is set to 30GB.  I looked at the folders in the cache and many of them are from last summer when the apps were first
downloaded and installed.  NONE of these apps are set to persist.  My understanding is that they should have been cleaned up automatically after 24 hours as space was needed.  Either way, shouldn't the cache folder be at or smaller than the
cache size setting?
I have talked to others that have seen similar problems with 2012 of the cache folder growing beyond the max, but they don't have the software load that we do, so they are not filling their drives.  If I manually tell Confi Man client to delete the
cache files, I free up 50GB or more, but manual intervention isn't a great option.
Any ideas on where to troubleshoot this issue or what settings might be messed up that allows for this?
Thanks

How much of this is software updates?  Like in 2007 software updates are not counted against the cache size:
"You can configure the location and amount of disk space that Windows Configuration Manager clients use to store temporary files for when they install applications and programs. Software updates also use the client cache, but software updates
are not restricted by the configured cache size and will always attempt to download to the cache"

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Clients are not retrieving policy

Hi - I know this question has been asked many times before - but I have tried almost everything and a no closer to solving the problem.
Background: Recently a SCCM 2012 SP1 single stand-alone site was upgraded to SCCM 2012 R2. The site is a single stand-alone primary site with a single DP, single MP, using mixed mode
(HTTP). The R2 upgrade ran without any problem and all SCCM components are showing as healthy.
A few test SCCM 2012 SP1 clients were upgraded to the R2 client using client-push.
However the upgraded clients are not retrieving policy from the Management Point. In the Actions Tab of the SCCM client, only Machine Policy Retrieval and User Policy Retrieval are available. But kicking of those actions does not
result in any of the advertised applications, Task Sequences becoming available. Infact Custom Client Settings are not being set either (e.g. Organisation Name in software Center).
I have checked and rechecked the following:
The upgrade of the client completed successfully (checked ccmsetup.log) and the version number went from 5.00.7804.1000 (SP1) to 5.00.7958.1000 (R2).
The MP health in the SCCM console is showing healthy.
The MP access URL's load correctly when run from SCCm client computers
    “http://<ServerName>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist” is ok
    “http://<ServerName>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert” is ok
The SCCM clients are assigned to the site correctly – verified via the SCCM client and
    ClientLocation.Log
ClientIDManager.Log is not showing any errors
CCMExec.log and ExecMgr.log don't show any advertisements being executed (Execmgr.log is almost empty and only has "Software ditrbution site settings policy does not yet exist on the client). If the client is not yest
    registered this is expected behaviour")
The SCCM clients are Approved and NOT Blocked in SCCM
I have attempted to upgrade the SCCM client and also completely removed and reinstalled - and both have the same result (no client policy dpwnloaded)
I have also deleted the above clients completely from SCCM, Run divoery again and pushed the client to the machines again ...with the same result (SCCM client installs, assigns to correct site and then no policy downloaded)
SCCM 2012 Boundaries are configured correctly and assigned to Boundary Groups correctly
The SCCM client’s do not have the firewall enabled
Changed boundary from AD Site to Subnet to IP Address Range: Same issue exists
Uninstalled MP role and reinstalled it: same Issue exists
Tried to connect to SCCm client using 3rd party SCCM Client center tool but cannot connect
??? Not sure what else to try ???

Hi all - sorry for the late response.
We managed to resolve the issue after logging a job with Microsoft Support.
The issue was that the SCCM 2012 R2 upgrade corrupted 2 tables in the SCCM Database - leading to corrupt SCCM client policies.
I am pasting the resolution email from Microsoft below:
(NOTE: This may not be the exact sypmtoms you are experiencing so do not implement this fix assuming it will fix your problem!)
    ISSUE:
    - All clients are unable to download policies from the server
    CAUSE:
    - Bad policies in the Database
    RESOLUTION:
-Issue with PADbID - Run below query against SCCM DB to verify corrupt entries:
    SELECT * FROM
ResPolicyMap WHERE machineid = 0 and PADBID IN (SELECT PADBID FROM PolicyAssignment WHERE BodyHash IS NULL)
Confirmed Bad policies entries in the SCCM database
Run below query to delete the bad policy after which we resolved the issue:
    Delete FROM ResPolicyMap
WHERE machineid = 0 and PADBID IN (SELECT PADBID FROM PolicyAssignment WHERE BodyHash IS NULL)"

  • Error installing SCCM 2012 SP1 client

    Hi All,
I am getting the following error, detailed in the client.msi.log, when trying to install the SCCM 2012 SP1 client on a couple of windows 2008 R2 servers.
Error 1904. Module C:\Windows\CCM\StatusAgentProxy.dll failed to register.  HRESULT -2147010895
The ccmsetup.log details the same message without Error 1904 indicated.
I am installing the client using the SUP method, which has worked without any problems on all 180 other windows servers I have done.  ccmsetup starts and downloads all pre reqs required for the client rollout, but it then hits this error and does not
    finish the installation.
Any help would be much appreciated?

    Hi,
    I've seen this issue a couple of times and usually it's related to incorrect Versions of C++ Library installed on the system you try to install the Client. Try and remove any existing installations, reboot and install this version;

Let me know how it goes.

  • New SCCM 2012 client machines still getting SCCM 2012 SP1 client not the new SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 client

    Hi,
I've successfully (as far as I can tell) deployed SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 and all my existing clients are showing a client version of 5.00.7804.1400.  But when I setup a new client system recently I noticed that the client version was showing 5.00.7804.1000,
    and not 5.00.7804.1400.
For new client systems, do I need to redeploy the packages that were created for SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 so that the new systems get the new SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 client?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Here's some good information to look over:
    http://sccmfaq.wordpress.com/2013/09/24/sccm-2012-include-cu-in-osd/
I haven't followed these instructions myself, since I haven't really had any good reason to include CUs during the initial installation process. I use this method instead and I've never run into any problems:

  • [SCCM 2012 SP1 W2K8R2] SUP not in Sync with WSUS settings (Language)

    Hi All,
I have almost identical production and test SCCM environment.
After I setup SUP on both production and test environment SUP Language settings are not replicated to WSUS and cause WSUS/SCCM to Sync all languages.
    SCCM 2012:
    WSUS:
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi,
There is nothing to fix, it looks exactly the same in my environment. The updates are not downloaded using WSUS it is downloaded using either the SCCM console or the SCCM Primary Site server if you use and ADR and when you download the updates the settings
    are beeing honoured.
    So this is expected behaviour.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 drivers are not installed

    Hi
I've the problem that drivers are not installed by PXE staging. I'm 100% sure I've the correct drivers. I've installed them over a pendrive without any problem but, SCCM doesn't install any driver, also I receive no error message. I see that the drivers
are downloaded during the staging process but after the driver installation step nothing is installed. I have this problem on all hardware types and devices. It's ever the same. The task sequenze is also correct. We checked that again and again.
First I loaded the whole driver package (including all drivers for this hardware tag) => dosen't work.
Have deleted all drivers and assigend just the exact network driver to the categorie ==> dosen't work.
Had also an SCCM specialist in the house which analyzed this issue but, he also cannot explain what could be the reason. He has never seen such a problem and he has installed a lot of SCCM2012 environments.
Has anyone an idea or maybe similar problems?
    Thank you!
    Sacha

    Hello Andre,
I got now an answer from Microsoft. It really seems like the setup installation is no longer supported for Windows 7 like Thomas said.
The better formulation in the WhatsNew in SP1 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj591552.aspx#BKMK_WhatsNewSP1_Software) would be:
The build and capture task sequence was updated to apply an operating system image instead of running Setup.exe for installation. You can only
still run Setup.exe for Windows 8 deployments by editing the task sequence in the task sequence editor.
First I thought this would be a joke but seems so. I was able to very that it will work if you use an image. With the image all drivers were installed and the task sequence ended without any error.
I loaded the install.wim from the original CD as image install and used the OSDPreserveDriveLetter setting like Thomas said.
I asked Microsoft for an official statement if this install type would be supported by Microsoft or what the recommended way is to create the golden image by using SCCM. At the moment I’m waiting for the final answer. I don’t want to use
unsupported installation methods for my customers.
I will post the answer from Microsoft after I got it.
We all could be happy that we now have Windows 8 and all Company want to install Windows 8 at all systems otherwise we have to wait until we get a supported way. ;.)
    regards
    Christoph

  • Novell GINA removed after R2 upgrade to ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 client

I am working with a customer and we just noticed an issue when upgrading some of their SCCM 2012 SP1 clients to R2.  After the upgrade, everything appears to work fine, but as soon as a restart happens, the Novell GINA is replaced by the Windows GINA.
These machines were running Windows XP SP3 with Novell Client 4.91 SP5.  This did not occur when installing the ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 client originally, but appears to happen every time when the ConfigMgr client is upgraded to R2.  I wouldn't have
thought the ConfigMgr 2012 R2 client upgrade would have anything to do with the GINA, but we can replicate the issue.
It's not due to Windows Updates getting installed in the background while the client is temporarily unmanaged, which was my initial thought.  We ensured the policy to disable Windows Updates was correctly in place and that no updates were installed.
The only fix so far is to completely remove the Novell client and reinstall it.
Has anyone else run in to this?
    Thanks!

Yes, I have seen this when we took over a group that had Novell. It was ConfigMgr 2007 at the time.  We only had to keep Novell long enough to completely remove it later.  So your process is correct.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 Update to CU5 not showing version 1600 for clients updated !

Recently upgraded SCCM 2012 SP1 and its showing a version of 5.0.7804.1600 as it should be. Pushed out the CU 5 client manager update to few machines and they are also showing .1600 as the version, however in SCCM 2012 manager itself it is not updating the
status of those machines from say .1000 or .1400 to .1600. Why is this happening and any solution for it ? I have also updated the CM on the server hosting the SCCM and is current to .1600 version.

Because the client agent version is returned from clients via heartbeat discovery which only occurs by default every 7 days. Thus, you need to be patient. Note that I generally recommend reducing the heartbeat cycle to at least once a day partly for
    this reason.

    Awating response,
    Hasan Reza

Well Finally I sorted my issue ,
Just want to share the solution, may be it would be helpful to some one else and save some times
The problem was that the Xp images has lot of hidden NIC installed , this would not allow the system to work with the correct NIC card and Ip address (System -> View Hidden Devices) , what I did 2 things
    1) Copied the OSD Script folder from the SCCM Server to the Client pc and ran that ztigather.wsf and captured the output , it was evident that it showed capturing multiple adapters , (There are some blogs that pointed out that OSD can capture only one nic
due to the only one Adapter0 section being defined in the ZTIgather.xml file,)
    2) I open the registry at the xp pc navigated to HKLM-> System ->Current Control Set-> Services-> TCPIP -> Parameters-> Interfaces ->
Expect for the NIC card that had the Ip address assigned I deleted all other nic card's guid,
As then post running deleting the old scanstate (USMTUTIL /rd c:\statestore) , reran the task and VOILA..
All worked fine , below are the two post I followed , though notvery relevant but they were helpful and help me reached the conclusion.
    Thanks,
    Hasan Reza.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 - OS Deployment - hash could not be matched for the downloded content

I've got a newly deployed SCCM 2012 SP1 running on Windows Server 2012. The W2K12 runs as vm on ESX 5.1. I'm having very odd issues with OS deployment. The TS keeps failing when processing SCCM client installation - it downloads the package but then it fails
straight away with the 80091007 - hash values couldn't be matched error - some extract from smsts.log attached below. It's very consistent, it happens every time - it downloads and applies the image fine straight after that it bombs out.
What is very interesting is that it works perfectly fine when I deploy vms (on the same or different host) - the issue seems to be be only affecting physical machines (laptops desktops). This might suggest some network issues (vSwitch with Cisco switches) but
the config on the switch is very simple and this shouldn't be the case.
I had a few virtualised SCCM 2007 installations (ESX 5 and 4) and it always worked with no problems.
I tried to recreate the package (changing source directory), turn binary differential replication on and off, copy the content of the package to the dist point or not copy. Push client installation (or other package deployments) work fine
When I tried to deploy with no download - sometimes it works but most of the time I'd get the files/folder corrupt error (can't remember the No)
This is starting to drive me crazy - There are some significant changes in the way SCCM 2012 is validating package integrity (like Content Lib folder) but the consistency of this problem is just very odd.
    Anyone has any clues?
    thanks

is this the only indication of a problem in your smsts.log file ? did you apply the
    authenticode hotfix or have you
downloaded the SP1 media after that hotfix was applied ?

  • Lync 2013 x64 silent client deployment via SCCM 2012 SP1

    Greetings everyone!
I ran into a problem with Lync 2013 x64 silent deployment.
I need to provide every workstation with Lync 2013 client, so i decided to use deployment via SCCM 2012 sp1.
I created 2 msp files with OCT, one based on x86 Office 2013 Proplus, and other based on x64 Office 2013 Proplus.
Added them as applications to sccm software library.
Deployment of Lync 2013 x86 application was a success with over than 80% compliance.
But all Lync 2013 x64 automatic installations finish with different errors.
I created special device collection for workstations with office 2010 x64 and 2013 x64, because i can't install other architecture products once it has x64 product installed.
My membership query-rules for this collection:
    Office 2013 x64
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE on SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where UPPER(SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.SoftwareCode) = "{90150000-0011-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}"
    Office 2010 x64
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE on SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where UPPER(SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.SoftwareCode) = "{90140000-0011-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}"
My application deployment type points to setup.exe in office 2013 x64 installation folder, where i created msp file in updates folder via OCT and edited config.xml file in proplus.ww folder.
    So my installation program looks like this setup.exe /adminfile updates\1lync.msp /config proplus.ww\config.xml
The same configuration works with Lync 2013 x86 deployment, except other setup folders.
When i try running installation program setup.exe with /adminfile and /config parameters locally, it installs successfully without errors or warnings.
I'm trying to find out problem source, does anyone have ideas what I am doing wrong?
Also i'm trying to reduce office 2013 installation folder size, what subfolders are necessary for Office 2013 proplus installation (still installing only lync with common files and tools)? Because now 3.5 GB package is quite hard to distribute to sccm secondary
    sites with deployment point.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Multicast not working SCCM 2012 SP1

    Hi,
Am having issues getting multicast working with SCCM 2012 SP1 / Server 2008 R2.
We have followed all the guidelines in this forum but still no joy
    - Multicast setting enabled on DP
    - Multicast Enabled on OS Image
    - Task Sequence set to down content when needed
    - SCCM DP and Client are on same VLAN to rule out routing issues
    - Network team confirm all ok there end anyway
    - Boot images / WDS and PXE are all healthy
The PC Boots via PXE ok and runs our windows 7 task sequence, when the task sequence starts it says "Opening multicast session" for about 5 seconds and then disappears. Its as though it tries but then fails. Unicast works fine.
I then set the OS image to "Only use Multicast" which produces the following error in the client SMSTS.log
reply has no message header marker
Failed to open session request (Code 0x80004005)

Any idea on how we get this working ?
    Thanks

This is something to double and triple check.  If Multicast is not enabled on the routers/switches properly, this will not work.  If there is a firewall between the client and the distribution point that doesn't have the Multicast ports open, this
    will not work.
