SCCM 2012 SP1 + WSUS + Server 2012 + SQL Server 2012

Hi all;
I installed SCCM 2012 with Sp1 for my site server and everything is going well.. And than i installed the WSUS role on my Windows Server 2012 and SCCM 2012 SP1 it gave an error message which is "Fatal Error: The schema version of the database is from a newer
version of WSUS than currently installed. You must either patch your WSUS server to at least that version or drop the database." My database server is SQL Server 2012... Do you know any pathc for WSUS or SQL Server 2012 doesnt support WSUS yet???

Normally if you are going to install SCCM 2012 SP1 +Windows 2012 with SQL 2012, Then you better use the SQL 2012 sp1.
also when you are installing the WSUS version 6.2 which come with server 2012 make sure you leave the default settings as it is. it shows in the below article.
also when you are giving the path to save the WSUS contents make sure the drive you going to create the wsus folder and the place where you going to download the updates is having free disk space and its formatted with the NTFS volume. Also the service account
you are using for this configuration should have the admin rights to the location of the wsus folder you going to create,

I am working in an org that has SCCM 2012 SP1, it is and always has been running on SQL Server 2012 RTM, with NO CU installed it seems (judging by the file versions 11.0.2100.60, which are not the same as as documented here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2703275).

So before I upgrade to R2 I will ensure I installed SP2 and CU3 onto SQL Server.
However, I am concerned about WHY SCCM 2012 SP1 requires SQL Server 2012 CU2 as a minimum and what damage may have been done as a result of this configuration?
Are there any actions that can be performed as remediation or health check?
Can anyone speculate?

Because the Microsoft product group decided it that way. All supported SQL versions are listed here:

Damage? Hard (impossible) to tell. You would have seen errors in various components if there were problems.

WSUS 4.0, SQL server, and SCCM 2012 version help

I am trying to get to the bottom of a version question.
We currently have SCCM 2012 R2 up and running, with a DB on a separate server version MSQL 2008 R2. Now we also are using the WSUS integration. I am being told WSUS 4.0 cannot be ran on SQL server 2008 R2, so they could only install and use WSUS version
3.0.
Can anyone out there please shed some light on my version items from above?

(Pedantically speaking this is true because there is no such beast as "WSUS 4".)
However, WSUS v6.2 (Windows Server 2012) and WSUS v6.3 (Windows Server 2012 R2) can most certainly be installed on SQL Server 2008 R2, and the official documentation is at

However, the *preferred* installation methodology, unless you've expressly chosen to use a remote SQL Server, is to use the Windows Internal Database feature which is built into Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2.

Symptom: When you install Reporting Service Point role on a Site System Server running SQL Server
2012 SP1, you may encounter an issue that the Reporting Service Point role cannot be installed. The error log “srsrpMSI.log” and “srsrpsetup.log” may throw the error as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

You can look into Resource Manager and Event Viewer to find the other currently running MSI installation. You may get a warning in Event Log that means the MSI wants to install a SQL Server
related Component (Figure 3). The Resource Manager confirms this (Figure 4).

This implies that ODP.NET does NOT need to be installed on a client. However, I cannot find OraOPs9.dll on a machine with Client Release 9.2 installed. Should OraOps?.dll automatically come with a Client installation of 9.2 or higher?
ODP.NET needs to be installed on the client. OraOps9.dll is part of ODP.NET, not the Oracle Client.
Also, if an application is built with the 10g ODP.NET, can it be run from a machine with OraOps9.dll?
If an application is built with 10g ODP.NET, it can be run with 9.2 ODP.NET as long as you do not use any 10g APIs. The new features in 10g ODP.NET are included in the doc and the ODP.NET FAQ for your reference.

Is it possible to deploy 2 SCOM 2012 R2 reporting in a SQL server which already has SCOM reporting of a different management group but with 2 different reporting instance.

I have a typical situation in the LAB environment. Hope some one helps. I have Installed a SCOM 2012 R2 with SQL 2012 SP1 in a single server (Management group 1). I have installed another management group on another server using this SQL server for its database
so i have everything going fine.
The first management group has its reporting installed in the SQL server. For the second i created a new named instance for that. But i cannot run the SCOM setup in the SQL server (Also holding the Management group 1 MS) as 1 st reporting is already there.
When i run the setup it is asking me to repair it. I don't get the install option so i can install the reporting for management group 2 in the named instance.
Default instance is being used by the 1st management group.
Can any one figure a possibility for installing 2 SCOM reporting services for different management groups in a same SQL 2012 server please.

Thank you for the reply. So as you are aware If i need to instal reporting, i need to run the SCOM 2012 R2 setup in the SQL server and select reporting and select the
instance and then mention the management server there right. I am not getting that option there it is asking me to remove or repair the existing installation as there is already a SCOM entire setup including reporting there. As it is a lab there is no problem
in testing. I have 2 reporting instances. Any suggestions for me on how to overcome this issue and deploy the second reporting in the new named instance ?

I'm working on upgrading sharepoint 2010 to sharepoint 2013 with sql server 2008 r2. I've ran into some problems but have been able to get a test farm upgraded. However to run SSRS 2013 it seems Sql Server 2012 Reporting Services are required. Upgrading
to a full sql server 2012 database isn't an option. I know that sql server 2012 reporting services can use sql server 2008 r2 as a catalog and content database so I was wondering could this be a workaround? Importantly would I need a separate machine/virtual
machine to host sql server 2012 reporting services? or could it live on the sql server 2008 r2 machine? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks Dan

Remember that SSRS must be deployed on the SharePoint server. Having said that, yes you can install SSRS 2012 SP1 on a server running SQL 2008 R2. And yes, you can use 2008 R2 as your Database Engine server while SSRS 2012 SP1 runs on the SharePoint server.

Difference between SQL SERVER 2008 & SQL SERVER 2012 & SQL SERVER 2014 ?

What sort of databases do you have OLTP? Data warehouse? What requirements do you have for High Availability?
The main features for SQL 2012/2014, as I see it:
o Support for window functions, which makes it possible to write fast queries for running totals, sliding windows etc.
o Columnstore indexes, which can speed up your data warehouse enormously. But of no interest for OLTP. Only writable in SQL 2014.
o AlwaysOn and Availability Groups, a vastly improve story for high availability and disaster recovery.
o try_convert/try_cast, you can now easily filter out values from a column which does not convert to a number. A small but essential feature.
o In memory-OLTP, a new in-memory engine in SQL 2014. This far with very limited feature set, and quite specialised.
Of the points above, the second and third require Enterprise Edition, the first and fourth are in all editions. For the last, I don't think Microsoft has announced anything yet.
There are also new stuff in the BI area, but that's out of my league.
And, oh, there is a new licensing model - which I think is holding more than one customer back.

How to create a Linked Server from SQL Server 2012 to Postgresql

Hi, I am working on a third party application which is using Postgresql version 9 database and I am trying create a linked server in SQL Server 2012 using the below stored procedure.

@provider=N'MSDASQL', @provstr=N'Driver=PostgreSQL;uid=pguser;Server=pghost;database=pgdatabase;pwd=somepassword'
Error: Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server.
I have no clue if a jdbc provider exists in SQL Server to connect to Postgresql or what the right provider is? Could you please let me know if there's a workaround to achieve this.

I think you are confused with the way cluster is installed. Installing SQL on cluster is a two step process. On first node you create a new SQL cluster and on second node you need "AddNode" action.
Same edition media has to be used in above two operation.
you can install two separate instances with one enterprise and one standard.

This feature can only be installed on a server running SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later ERROR

Attempting to install MBAM 2.5, and the SQL Server I have available for the install is SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2; the databases installed correctly, but when I run the Reports install it suddenly doesn't like my SQL anymore. The error says I need to install
SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1, SQL Server 2012 SP1, or later - and the server is already at that level.
Any idea of how to progress without needing to wipe out SQL and upgrading everything to 2012 R2? I really need to get this running ASAP, so I'm hoping there's a tip that will allow me to get the install to complete.

Added note: When I check the mbam setup logs in event viewer, I get the following error:
IsSupportedSqlVersion: The SQL version is not supported - 10.50.1600.1.
Checking the version in SQL Management Studio shows:
select @@VERSION

Linked Servers Diff Domains server type SQL Server vs OLE

Ok, we have two different servers ETL03 (2012) and SQL03 (2012 ent). Each on Separate domains SQL03 server has many instances. i have kerberos set up and it appears to be working fine (run SELECT auth_scheme FROM sys.dm_exec_connections WHERE session_id
= @@spid ;). For the different instances to work with Kerberos, i had to assign a static port to each of the instances. The main server instances are using the default 1433. When i created a linked server from SQL03\TestInstance to ETL03,
i can put the
Link server: ETL03
Server Type: SQL Server
Security 'Be made using the login's current security context'
If i make this exact same linked server but from ETL03 to SQL03\TestInstance i get the error Login failed for user 'NT Authority/Anonymous Login'.
If i create the connection where the Server Type is OLE DB, it works. However, not all of the databases show up in the catalog.
So here are my questions:
1- anyone have any ideas as to why the OLE DB connection works and the SQL Server connection doesn't work when going from ETL03 to SQL03\TestInstance
2- If i have to use the OLE DB connection, fine, but where are all of the db's? Most show up, but a few do not.
FYI, the linked server from ETL03 to default instance of SQL03 works perfectly, i can see all db's etc. So has something to do with these named instances. Thanks for all and any input.

So i figured out what it was looking for, if anyone is interested. In order to use SQL Server as the type, i had to use the FQDN so when making the connection the server name is, SQL03.subdomain.domain.local\TestInstance.
This works and you can see all of the db's etc. I'd still like to know why the other doesn't work. When setting the spns for the service account, i included two entries:
MSSQLSvc/SQL03:50001
MSSQLSvc/SQL03.subdomain.domain.local:50001
so technically i shouldn't have to use the fqdn, but as long as it works....

Odbc sql server driver sql server incorrect syntax near 'è'

An online game I host uses ODBC and SQL.
I'm using SQL Server Management Studio 2012.
I had two errors suddenly appear.

and
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Unclosed quotation mark after the string ".
Can anyone explain what these are and how I can fix them please.

Hello Zath,
"Unclosed quotation mark after the string" means there is a Quotation mark missing, like in this query at the end:
SELECT *
FROM sys.objects
WHERE Name like 'sys%
But without knowing your queries it's difficult to say, where & why this occurs.

When I try to kill, it status shown as "KILLED/ROLLBACK"

I guess its stuck, can you see some blocking or any other process blocking the rollback.
can you check rollback status using below command. Or you can use sp_who2 and check status column
select percent_complete,estimated_completion_time from sys.dm_exec_requests
where spid=xxx

Thanks for your suggestions and I tried all that what I can do along with your suggestion, and still getting the same error, all the connection are working fine, but when I checked for Integrity, Parse Object and Cardinality I was getting some Object error and cardinality error, which am trying to resolve, so I think am having a wrong version of the Activity Universe.
