[sce8000 web filtering / parental controls]

Hi, All:
In a couple of Cisco URLs it says that the SCE8000 integrates with Websense (and AdvancedMobile) to support url filtering and parental controls. See here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/ps7045/ps6129/ps6257/ps6135/white_paper_c11-606444.html
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps7045/ps6129/ps6133/ps9591/siminn_cs.pdf
Can you please confirm this is true and tell me exactly which Websebse product is supported? is it websense web filter or websense web security?
I contacted a Websebse rep yesterday and they are not aware of being able to integrate with the sce8000 and don't know the product that integrates with the sce8000.on the web i found mentions of websense CPA and the sce8000 , which websense tells me is a completely different product than web filter or web security.
please advice,
c.

Carlos,
I'm not sure whether websense has declared EoS for CPA, but better contact following Knepher, Jonathan [mailto:[email protected]
further contact your local cisco team, as there were plans of Cisco Business unit to integrate SCE with Cisco WSA for content filtering, further you can also look for bright cloud webroot solution as there were plans to integrate this with SCE8K by end of this quarter.

  • Z 10, Webfilter, parent control

    Web filtering, parental control
    Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have some question about the Z10 in Germany:
    - There is the browser webfilter?
    - There are apps for the browser have a Kindersicherng, especially web filter?
Are there filters that work on all web browsers, not only for the home browser?
    - Can be completely blocked by password the appstore, not only for payments
    - When you reset the device to factory settings, there is no password, right?
If you make a backup before, you need a PC for that, it's not only the Z/10, right? In addition, you still need a special app for this, right?
My concern is to make the device for the Internet safe for children.
    What options are there?
    Thank you.
    Sincerely yours
    A.Pendzialek

You may want to check Apples Knowledgebase Article on this... Specifically:
+*https note: For websites that use SSL encryption (the URL will usually begin with https), the Internet content filter is unable to examine the encrypted content of the page. For this reason, encrypted websites must be explicitly allowed using the Always Allow list. Encrypted websites that are not on the Always Allow list will be blocked by the automatic Internet content filter.*+
They don't specifically identify differences from one build to the next, but their KB articles are usually inclusive of the most current version. It is possible if it worked before that it actually shouldn't have and they "fixed" it with 10.6.4.

  • Parent control question

On iMac, when enable parent control with selected web sites, and when using safari to open selected web site, parent control window continue to pop up asking for accessing  additional web site such as google-analytics.com, doubleclick.com, etc, i need either select the web site(need admin privilege) or click OK whcih basically ignore the pop up window. This is very annoying. How can I keep this parent control window from popping up ? I want to ignore all the question silently.

  • Does upgrading to iOS 4.2 reset the Parent Control password?

A month or two ago, I updated my son's iPod Touch 3G from version 4.1 to version 4.2 via my computer (not his).
Sometime later, I discovered that my son had set the Parent Control password to something completely different, and all of the parent controls had been turned off.
My son claims that the update had reset the password, and he set it to a different password, which he did give to me when I discovered the change. (I won't go into his excuse for setting a new password.)
I am suspicious. I have not found any evidence on the web of parent controls being reset by an upgrade, and I think it would be poor design to have an upgrade reset the parent control password.
So, if you upgrade an iPod Touch on a computer which is not its primary computer, does the password and parent control settings get reset?
    Further info:
When upgrading his iPod Touch, I did not sync it to my computer. After the upgrade, all his settings (Mail, apps, etc.) were still working. I have my own iPod Touch that I do sync to my computer, and it has no parent control settings enabled, nor a parental control password. I keep my iPod Touch at version 3.1.3, for development purposes. I'm running 10.6.5, iTunes 10.
Please answer only if you know (e.g., you've tested this) or if you have a conjecture as to why this might indeed happen. I'm not in the mood for any parenting lessons.
    Thanks!
    Henry

You are absolutely correct. A simply update to the latest version of iOS will not restore the device to factory settings. If you did the update yourself, at the end of the installation you would have been presented with an option to restore from backup or setup as a new device. Of course you would have chosen to restore from backup because you say that all email and apps were exactly as before. The restrictions are carried over exactly as before when you restore from backup, including the restrictions passcode and any settings you had selected.
The only conclusion (if the sequence above is correct) that can be made is that someone intentionally restored the device to factory settings after the upgrade and then setup a new restrictions passcode.
Having said that, these statements in your description are contradicting each other:
    - I updated my son's iPod Touch 3G from version 4.1 to version 4.2 via my computer (not his).
    - When upgrading his iPod Touch, I did not sync it to my computer
How exactly the upgrade happened could tell you if you made a simple mistake or if he or someone else intentionally restored the device.

  • Parental controls for web surfing?

I'm considering whether to get an Ipod Touch for my 12-year-old, but I'm concerned about the access to the Web that it allows. Is there a way for me to install some sort of "parental controls" onto the web browser? (I must say - this Apple site is unbelievably unhelpful for folks who aren't already owners of its products.) Thanks for any info you can offer!

Right now, you can restrict Safari completely without affecting the other apps. Take a look at the Manual page 95.
There may be an 3rd party App available soon to enable filtering. See more here: http://www.mobicip.com/

  • Parental Controls and Filters

We don't have an ipod Touch yet, but the kids would like one. But before we purchase I want to know if their are parental controls that allow you to filter content over the browser.
I have searched for information and all I can find is that you can turn off the browser which is not really useful. I just want filters in place to avoid accidental exposure.
I know we can set it at our router level but that is not really useful unless they are at home.
It would really be surprising if it did not have browser filters available since it seems the target group for this product is kids. I just want to verify this because I can't seem to find a definite answer.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the response. That seems to be in line with what I have been coming to understand.
Does not seem right that you target a product to kids and don't provide something like this. That should have been at the top of the list. Nothing against Apple products since they are innovative, but this is the one reason why I tend to stay away more often than buying. They always expect you to pay for basic functionality (and web filtering on a device targeted at kids is basic functionality in my opinion) on top of the already expensive price. Anyway, will have to think about it some more.
Thanks again for the response and for the alternative browser. Much appreciated.

  • Web Parental Controls for 10.2.8?

I'm giving my old G3 iBook to my grandkids, but I notice OS 10.2.8 does not have the parental controls for the internet for users like later versions. Unfortunately, this computer barely crawls if I update the system and had to reinstall 10.2.8. I tried to get an older version of BumperCar or MacMinder, but neither are available any longer for the older systems. Any ideas of another program, or any other way I can control web pages the kids visit?? (This machine: late 2001 dual USB white iBook G3-300 with Mac OS 10.2.8) Thanks if you can help.

Look at some of the apps on this page http://www.pure-mac.com/censor.html
Also look at NetNanny @ http://www.guardchild.com/netnanny.php

  • Safari can't open a specific web page when parental controls are enabled and don't give access to modify the dock.

iMac running mountain lion with all updates applied.
I (my kids) are trying to use www.coolmath-games.com and when I have parental controls enabled and I do not give the ability to modify the dock the page comes up blank.
It doesn't matter how I have the web controls set (I said allow all just to be sure).
If I toggle on "allow user to modify the dock" the above page works.  If I toggle it off, then the page doesn't work.
I *think* this page worked in Lion, but I don't know for sure.  The kids just started complaining about it after I updated to mountain lion.
    Any suggestions?

  • Can't add web site to kids acount with Parental Controls activated

I installed the update to Safari 4.0. I activated parental control in the administrator account. No matter what I do, I cannot add web sites to bookmarks on kids account. This is what I have tried:
    1. Logged into kids account. Opened safari. Entered URL. Clicked on add site to bookmarks. Entered administrator account name and password and pressed enter. Result - Site does not get added.
    2. Opened Safari preferences in kids account. Went to security tab. Tried to uncheck 'parental controls'. Result - Box will not uncheck.
    3. Closed Safari. Deleted Safari preferences file from Library/Preferences. Reopened Safari. Result - Still cannot add sites.
I suspect the problem is somehow related to permissions, but haven't been able to figure it out. Would appreciate some help.
    Thanks

Exact same here, though I haven't tried deleting preferences file. Sounds like that wouldn't work, though

  • Web Browsing with Parental Controls

Question: I have a daughter that is almost 8 now and is starting to get around the net quite well now. My issues is I'm on Tiger 10.4.11 and it don't have the parental controls that leopard 10.5 has. Is there a quick fix for this or is my only 2 options would be to upgrade to leopard which I really don't want to or purchase a security software.
    David

sorry my recent post on logs kind of speaks forebodingly about safe eyes...somehow a logger that I cannot track with anti-vandal has found way in...other than that their program works well...You may also check out intego's Content Barrier X%.
Apples parental controls work but they do not filter well...all you can really do is allow only certain websites...WATCH OUT FOR THE KIDS GAMES>>A Close friend had over 70 viruse hit because they were latching onto the games
    Hope you have success
Also check out K-9 web protection....Email them to see if the Mac version has been upgraded enough to get out the bugs..Mac version was new 6 mos ago
    Their program is totally free.

  • Parental controls are not blocking specific web sites

Using 10.6.1 I am unable to block specific web sites through the parental controls. The site in particular I was trying to block ended in .tv/ Is there a problem in snow leopard or is this type of site not able to be blocked?

There are a variety of Adobe services that need to remain enabled in order for Photoshop to work.
I would log in to the administrator account and make sure anything with Adobe is set to "allow."
Then, log in to the restricted account and test. If Photoshop works as expected, you can turn off one item at a time until you find the one that "breaks" Photoshop's functionality.

  • Website listed in the "never allowed" section of web browsing in parental controls still comes up!

I have listed YouTube.com on my list of websites to never allow for my daughter's user account on my MacBook Pro, but it still allows it!  I am updating to mavericks OS right now - hoping it's a bug that will be fixed.
Please help if you know what might work.  I bought a Mac because of the parental controls, which are apparently useless!

You might think that if you change "Website Restrictions" under the "Content" tab > to "Allow unrestricted access to websites" that it would bypass the proxy server > entirely. Unfortunately it does not.
Why would you think that? There's not a single commercial cache engine or proxy I'm aware of that works that way. If a site isn't restricted the proxy server simply passes the traffic instead of restricting it. It doesn't change the routing or proxy on the guest machine.

  • Do parental control filters like AntiPorn (downloaded from CNET) work during private browsing sessions?

The community discussion about deleting or turning off private browsing was pretty dismissive. People just said: get a filter. That raises the question, is there anything about the private browsing feature that would insulate it from the monitoring function of a parental control filter? CNET strongly endorsed AntiPorn, a free download, which I'm considering using. So the question is, if Private Browsing gets turned on, will it still work to block objectionable sites? I run Firefox with Windows 7 Starter on an HP netbook.

Sorry if this comes to late, I just now came across this thread.  I have rtorrent and rutorrent sunning successfully on my x64 Arch Linux install.
Try putting the "SCGIMount /RPC2 127.0.0.1:5000" line in your httpd.conf file right after the LoadModule lines (it's line 124 for me).
I seem to recall it not working when I put it at the end of the file.
    Best of Luck!

  • Parental Controls Broken After Updating an Application

I'm using Parental Controls (remotely) under 10.5.4 to manage what applications can be opened in a small lab. This works well until I need to update an application on the lab computers. I'll use Firefox as an example, but this happens with all applications.
    - I have a version of Firefox on all lab computers (3.0) and Firefox is allowed under parental controls. Everything works.
    - I update Firefox to 3.0.1. (In this case, I simply overwrote the older version of firefox, but I get this problem when updating applications with installers.)
    - If I remotely look at the Parental Controls settings for the lab computer, I can see that Firefox is still allowed (checked)
    - Now, on the lab computer, I log into the managed account and try to open Firefox, I get a warning about the application not being on the allowed list.
    - I log out of the lab computer, and again, access the parental controls setting remotely. Now Firefox is Not Allowed (unchecked).
    - I check the box to allow Firefox
    - Now when I log into the managed account, the new version of Firefox opens.
Some fixex / workarounds I have tried:
    - After updating Firefox, I remotely accessed the parental controls settings and first disallowed (unchecked) Firefox, close parental controls, reopened it, and then allowed (checked) Firefox. When logged into the managed account, opening Firefox produced the not allowed error. When I return to the Parental Controls settings, Firefox is now Not Allowed (unchecked). Checking the box to allow Firefox fix the error.
    - I've tried restarting after updating Firefox and it did not work.
    My guess:
I assume that Leopard keeps a list of applications and versions installed on the computer. Parental Controls allows a specific combination and any update will break the parental controls. To allow this updated application to be opened, its old entry in the list must be updated to reflect the new version. The only way I have figured out how to do this, is to try and open the updated application and fail. Then I can finally allow the updated version.
Does anyone know of an automated or scritable way to do this. I have tried working with lsregister, but have not had any success. I need a way to force Leopard to reload / refresh its list of installed applications, with having a user logged into the console.
For a different solution, does if you can send a UNIX command to machine sitting on it login screen, that will cause the machine to login as a local console user. I could then send "open /path/to/updated app" and a logout to force the application list to be refreshed.
Many Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi! Did you ever receive any feedback on this issue?
I am interested since I have noticed the exact same frustration with Parental Controls since updating to 10.5.
While a very good idea, I think the parental controls, especially with respect to permissions about applications is utterly useless at the moment. It is completely stupid that I have to reset the permissions for applications each and every time I update an application. I have three children who use the computer and I don't want them using every bit of software on the eMac. They are naturally curious and will click on programs that can do damage without realizing is.
I have also turned off any parental controls regarding web browsing but my children still hit many sites that are blocked by Parental Controls. I do have a linux gateway that does the filtering quicker and better.
If anyone at Apple is listening ... please spend some time to fix this for the next update.
    Thank you.

  • Any ideas for security and parental control software yet???

Just received two of the touchpads from the fire sale and gave them to my kids, both under 10.  I am very interested in limiting the sites that can be accessed through the browser, as well as a few other things.  Has anyone found a practical means of doing this?  I'd hate to give up on this and switch it over to Android, especially since there is only Gingerbread available.  But, I just don't know what else I can do about these.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Please take this post with a grain of salt. I don't claim to be a security and parental control software expert, but I have researched these solutions and have some personal experience with them. That being said, here's some ideas to get you started.
As speedtouch mentioned, OpenDNS is a fantastic solution for website filtering. They have a great set of filters that can be customized and are one of the easiest systems to set up. Simply install an updater app on one of your desktop computers (or directly on your router if it's supported), configure your router to use their DNS servers, and you're good to go. I personally use this system mysefl and it works really well. The only downside in my experience is that there is not a temporary override system (at least, not in the free version that I use). An example of when this might be handy: my wife goes clothes shopping and looking at new bras. Every once in a while, a perfectly legitimate site might get blocked (in this case, probably something I don't want my kid looking at but perfectly fine for my wife). The option to "temporarily override the block" or "temporarily allow" the site would be nice, but it doesn't exist.
Another FANTASTIC solution that I've used in the past is the Astaro Security Gateway. They have a free home version of their "Software Appliance" that goes above and beyond OpenDNS. I haven't used it in a while, but when I did it was able to not only filter web sites but also monitor Instant Messaging and other online activites. It's a bit more involved as you need your own hardware (I used an old computer with 2 network cards and stuck it in between my router and my broadband modem), but the results are pretty powerful.
The downside to all these solutions, however, is that they will only work when the TouchPad is on your network. If they connect to a neighbors network of if the go to a friends house, all of these systems will be moot because they are completely bypassed. The only way to monitor that content from ANY network would be to install an application on the device itself and to my knowledge, none exist.
