"Scene Selection" Button Thumbnail Problem

I've created a project using the "Bands/Chapters" theme and now I can't set the thumbnail for the "Scene Selection" button to the image that I want. I keep getting some default image. I've uploaded a couple of screenshots to show what happens. You'll notice in the "after" screenshot that the inspector is showing the thumbnail of the image that I want but the button is set to some default image.
Here's the two screenshots:

I guess sometimes you simply have to figure it out for yourself. If anyone else is interested in the answer, apparently size does matter.
That's the way things work around here. We certainly have NEVER claimed to have all the answers. Sharing solutions helps everybody.

I get several spam email messages every week telling me that same thing

  • Change thumbnail of a scene selection button

I would like to know how to change the image displayed in a scene selection button. Mine is just black, as the start of the video is black. I would like to be able to use an image, or a still from the film for this button. How can I do this? Thanks

Hey, I was struggling with the same thing too. In case you haven't figured it out yet and for others who come across this post with the same question, here some steps I figured out that worked for me.
    1. Select the thumbnail frame/image button you want to change the image on.
    2. Press Command+I on your keyboard or click the little 'i' button on the lower left side of the window to reveal the 'Inspector' window.
    3. Make sure you have the movie set to "Still Image" in the 'Inspector' window.
    4. Click on your 'Media' button on the lower right hand side of the window.
    5. Click your 'Photos' button above (if it's not already selected).
    6. Select the photo you want and drag and drop it across the little white square that has "Custom Thumbnail" to the left of it in the Inspector area.
    Happy Authoring!

  • Editing Scene Selection Buttons

I am trying to create a Disc Menu in Premiere Elements 9 but I can't seem to edit the buttons for the scene selections.
The basic problem is that the titles for my scenes are a little long so it looks sloppy underneath the video image.  Really, if it would allow me to center the text underneath the video image that appears, that would solve my problem.  If that's not possible, just removing the video image could work as well.  Is there any way to edit these buttons other than just font, size, and color?
Also, whenever I try to change the font for the "Play All" and "Scene Selection" button on the main page, the text disappears.  Am I doing something wrong?

Unfortunately, you can not change the alignment of text on a disc menu without opening up the template itself and manually changing it.You can only change the font, style and color for each block of text.
I don't know why you can't edit the Play All and Scene Selection buttons. You should be able to . At least on most disc menu templates. You may have applied a disc menu template that's the exception -- quite possibly because the text block is locked or is a graphic rather than true text.

  • Scene selection buttons don't work in preview

I edited my movie in iMovie, provided chapter markers that work in iMovie.  "Shared" the completed project to iDVD, which created scene selection buttons for all of the chapter markers and for the beginning.
Now that I have dropped loops onto the buttons, none of them works.  Instead of starting the movie at the appropriate marker, they just display the loop that was dropped onto them.
I do not know if the buttons worked before I dropped loop files onto them.
How do I get the buttons to associate with the chapter markers?

Have you tried publishing to a server?  Sometimes the javascript or flash being run requires your project to be running from a server.  You can not rely on the preview mode to execute scripts which is fustrating because if you are attempting a java window close command it definately won't work when clients try it on their local machine... And still has a good chance of not working when published on a server

  • Adding scene selection button

How do I add a button that links to the scene selection on the disc menu?

When you add Scene Markers to your Timeline, PrE will automatically add the link from a Scene Selection Button (from either the Main Menu, or a Scene Selection Menu, depending on the chosen Template) automatically, and will even create any necessary Scene Selection Menus, to accommodate the number of Scene Markers that you have.
In PrE, such linking is done automatically, and requires not input from the user, beyond the creation of those Scene Markers, and the choice of Menu Template.
In many other authoring programs, and especially full-featured programs, like Adobe Encore, those links ARE done manually.
Good luck, and hope that helps,
    Hunt

  • Scene selection button disappeared forever

After struggling fruitlessly with DVD studio pro, (which refused to make a DVD that played on any machine other than my iMac,) I was forced to switch to iDVD, which behaves at least half-competently. I was editing a project and deleted the scene selection button that is generated automatically when importing a movie with chapter markers.
I saved the project and exited to re-export the movie, (several times, because final cut keeps finding ways to screw me over as well,) and when I went to re-import the movie, the scene selection button refused to appear. I tried restarting the program, deleting the project file, but it appears that the scene selection submenu is gone forever. What the hay apple? Why is it so easy to destroy functions in your applications?

Have you tried making a new idvd project? The scene selection should return ina new project. I am guessing that you made a quicktime movie with chapter markers from FCP or FCE. Open a new idvd project with a new name. Drag your QT movie into any area of the dvd widow except the drop zone. It should now say play movie and scene selection. If it does, drag you QT movie of still frame or whatever into the drop zone and burn. If it doesn't then you will need to delte your pref file found in the library to reset idvd to factory defaults.
If this doesn't work post your workflow. How are you exporting your movie to IDVD?

  • Scene selection buttons missing

    Hello all,
I'm using iDVD6 for the first time for a movie made in Final Cut Express HD.
I set chapter markers in FCE and have imported the movie into iDVD. The instructions tell me that iDVD automatically sets two buttons on the Main Menu page, one for Play Movie, the other for Scene Selection. I have neither.
Can anyone shed some light on what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I deleted the old iDVD project and started from scratch. I am following the iDVD Help manual to the letter, but can't get the scene selection button to appear.
The manual says I simply drag the movie with chapter markers to the menu background outside the drop zone, and that the menu will automatically change to show 2 buttons, Play Movie and Scene Selection. This is the part that's not happening.
The movie definitely has chapter markers, and during the exporting process, I did choose the 'Keep chapter markers' option.
    Any ideas?

  • IDVD Scene Selection Buttons Dont Work Properly

Trying to burn a DVD with multiple scene selections. This project has 19 scenes. No matter which button I click on, they all go to 1 chapter. Even the Play Movie button on the main menu goes to the same scene. I looked at the map & can't see if anything is wrong. This happens periodically but can't figure out why this happens.
    Thanks for your help.

(BTW, iDVD 7.0.3 IS iDVD 08 that came with iLife 8....There was no iLife 7).
    THOUGHTS:
    1. I would first trash iDVD's Preference file: With iDVD closed, go to your Home folder(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. Don't worry...iDVD will create a new fresh one when you relaunch it.
    2. I also recommend that you do a 'repair permissions' on your computer's drive.
Open Disk Utility and locate your computer's named icon in the left panel.
Select it, and then choose to 'repair permissions' You will see this option if the First Aid tab is selected.
Be patient...it make take some time.
If anything needs to be corrected, let DU do it.
When it says that everything is now ok, you are done.
After doing both of the above, reopen your iDVD project. You can try to burn a disk or create a disk image file again, but if that still does not work right, I would create a new iDVD project and make a disk image file from that one. If the first project is not working, something must be corrupted with the chapters, so I recommend a new iDVD project.
    3. Be sure you have followed the chapter marker 'rules':
Don't put a marker at the beginning of your iMovie...iDVD will do that automatically.
Don't put a marker within two seconds of the beginning or the end of your movie.
And, don't put a marker on or within two seconds of any transition.
That last one is not so crucial as it used to be, but if you put most of your markers on transitions, you may run into problems.
I use iMovie 6, and I make use of its ability to be exported as a quicktime movie. I then open a new iMovie project and drag in the quicktime version of my original iMovie, make chapter markers and use this one to put into iDVD. Because the iMovie is one long clip now, I can put chapter markers anywhere (except the beginning) and they always work.
I think it is a bit more complicated to do this with iMovie 9; you will need to search in that discussion.
    4. Also be sure you have not used non-alphanumeric characters for your scene titles. iDVD apparently does not like things like ampersands--& and other such characters.
Post back if you are still having problems.

  • Scene Selection Buttons

I'm using iMovie HD 6.0.1 (after getting used to iMovie 5) and trying to generate first movie. I have set chapter markers but cannot find locate "Play Movie" and "Scene Selection" in my Theme (Travel, Open) so that I may label the scene selections. Is there no scene selection in iMovie HD?

    Dr. Dave,
I think you are confusing the new themes in iMovie HD 6 with the motion menu themes of iDVD.
The iMovie themes are elements that you can use throughout your movie. As an opening or to mark the start of a new section etc.

  • Scene Selection Menu Page Problem

I just installed iLife 06 on my computer, updating me from iLife 05. When I opened an old project with iDVD and selected a new theme page(s), "Refection White Chapters" the scenes in the preview scrolled out of order. Instead of going from left to right they went diagonally; not in the sequence they were set. That doesn't seem right.

Don;t know how to fix your problem, but I never upgrade in the middle of iMovie/iDVD projects.....

  • I am not able to view all the text in my chatpter/scene selections buttons.

I created chapters in iMovie. However, when I create the DVD in iDVD6, the chapter text gets cut off. I tried to decrease the font size, but that didn't work. It did make the text smaller, but it was still cut off (just smaller). Does anyone know how I can get the full chapter text on the chapter buttons?

No, not cut off on every button...just the ones with a lot of text. Example...one button is labeled..."The Smiths - Stop Me If You Heard This Before." The end of this button (on the right side) gets cut off. I am using the "Full Frame '05" theme.
An interesting note...I went back to look at my chapter titles in iMovie and they were cut off there too. So, maybe it is taking the titles as they appear in iMovie and that's where they are getting cut off and not in iDVD. Are chapter titles in iMovie limited to a certain amount of characters?

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • Scene selection and play button

I was wondering if there is a way to put the scene selection button and the play movie button on the main menu page without having to click the movie link and then go to the page that has those on it. I want to be able to open the dvd and on that first screen have play movie and selection, like all regular movies you buy.
    thanks
    (iLife '09)

    Hi
Yes that's the way iDVD works if You set Chapters in the movie editor You use (iMovie or FinalCut)
But there are things to know about this that can give problems
    • Do not set any Chapter Mark at the very beginning - iDVD wants to do this by it self - if set iDVD gets into problems
    • Do not set any Chapter Marks in any transition or within 2 sec from it. A known problem maker
    • When movie is done and Chapter Marks set and it is imported into iDVD - THEN DO NOT go back to make any
    change what so ever.
If You MUST - Then You also MUST - Start a brand new iDVD project - The old one will ask You to Up-date or Cancel
Neither will work. Up-date will seem to work except all Chapters will now point to Chapter One and other strange
    things will happen.
Play All button - There are non in iDVD.
    • Movie with Chapters will in iDVD mean various in-point to Your movie - then play to the very end.
    • IF You want each Chapter to go back to Menu - Then You have to add them as individual movies and
then if You want to play all - You also need the full Movie. Resulting in 50% space as You need both versions.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Changing scene selection menu action

I'm trying to create a DVD with a particular theme. Everything works fine until I try the Scene Select button in the Preview Mode. When the Scene Selection menu comes up it is using a theme from a previous project. I am unable to change this to the theme being used in the first menu for this project.
How can I cancel the old project theme out of the Scene Selection menu?
Or how can I change it once I've started a project using a particular theme?
Thanks for any help you can give!

If you go to the main menu and then Advanced/Apply Theme To Project, it won't do that? If not:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.

  • DVD menu without a scene selection option?

    Hi all,
I'm new to Premiere Elements 12, and I just finished a video. I want to add a menu with my own photograph that has an option to play movie, but no option for scene selection. When I use Premiere's templates, I can't get rid of scene selection (it's not necessary for this video because it's so short). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    emmaarmer
Do not use scene markers on the Timeline content and you should not get any Scene Selection button on the main menu and you should not have any scene selection pages.
You will just end up with a main menu page with a Play button.
If you situation is different for some reason, please give more details including the specific Premiere Elements 12 Movie Menu that you are selecting.
    Thanks.
