Score styles: spontaneously self-replicating

I duplicated the bass score style and edited it to accomodate independent MIDI voices. Now, every so often when I go to apply a style to a give MIDI region, multiple copies of the original "bass" style appear; later even more, and more, and so on. Why oh why? Ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean about a "default" style... AFAIK, there is no such thing in Logic. The closest thing to "default" that I can think of is something that's manipulated by the "style" setting of a instrument (MIDI or Audio). In case you're not familiar with this, do the following:
1. Go to the Arrange page and click on any instrument track
2. On the LH part of the screen is a dark gray box containing the name of the instrument. There's a little white triangle pointing to that name. If it's not already pointing downwards, click on the triangle and information about that instrument will appear. At the bottom of the list is a parameter called "style".
If "style" is set to Auto, what Logic does is it analyzes the note range of the region (right after it's recorded). If it determines that the part is mainly in the lower register, it applies a Bass score style to the score display for that part. A flute part, on the other hand, would result in a Logic applying a Treble score style. You get the idea...
You can override this and set up a "default" score style (of your choosing) for any particular instrument in your Environment.
Other than that, I don't know of any other Logic defaults for score styles.
Have you tried starting a new song (based on your Autoload), playing in a part or two, and seeing how that new song's score display reacts? Might be worth a shot to try to get to the bottom of this very strange problem.

  • SCORE: Polyphonic Score Style & Rests

    Hello Score Gurus,
This horn part is written within a single MIDI region using a polyphonic score style with four parts (on 4 MIDI channels) to allocate the notes to the proper voice between the two staves.
In this example, only horns 1 and 3 are playing, so rests appear for horns 2 and 4 (and in the worst places -- and that's the problem).
I'm aware of several ways to overcome this problem (one of which is to duplicate the score style, hide rests for 2 and 4, and applying that style only to these measures, then enter user rests to show that 2 and 4 are not to play). Still, I'm wondering if there's some other kinds of tricks or workarounds to hide (or move) these rests so that I don't have to make these kinds of "specialty" score styles for individual measures.

    yes there is.
insert a rest into the bar and change its midi
channel to match the non-playing instrument. then you
can drag the rest to where it won't clash with the
    notes.
But remember to hold down the Option key while inserting the rest. This makes it a "user" rest.

  • Address Book Self-replicating contacts! They breed like rabbits!! Aaargh!!!

1 to 2 contacts for Apple (1 Infinite Loop etc.) are being created every minute both in Address Book itself and my Entourage address book. The rate at which they are created appears to be constant whether the applications are active or not (a system bug?) Address Book and Entourage are synced, although I'm not certain that this is a factor. When I realised what was happening, I cleared around 2000 (at least!) out of my address book, but they're still appearing. Any suggestions that don't involve taking a hammer to my beloved PowerBook would be greatly appreciated.

  • Bad Score Style Deleted... error message?

I can't recall having this ever happen before...
I'm trying to open a song I was working on yesterday, but the latest version, as well as all back-ups, give me the message "Bad Score Style Deleted" when I try an open it, and even though there is an "OK" button to click, all that happens is I click the "OK" button repeatedly, and the error message remains, never goes away, and the song never opens.
This particular song was started from a SMF that the drummer had sent me along with his audio tracks, but I've done that many times before, without any problems.
Any ideas what this means, and how to get past it, before I start all over...
    Thanks...

  • Score Editor:Single-Staff Score Style With Optional Polyphony

    Hi,
I need to do something i read in the manual:
"Sometimes you need to add a second Voice to a staff that usually only requires one Voice, in order to properly notate a short, rhythmically-independent passage...
One solution is to use a Score Style with a “Main Voice” and a “Secondary Voice”..."
O.K how do i create a Score Style with a “Main Voice” and a “Secondary Voice”?

    - open the score style editor
    - duplicate the score style you are using. name it.
    - in the 'new' file menu, select 'insert voice'
    - a new voice will be inserted into the score style.
    - make the necessary adjusments such as hide rests, stems down, or make sure that the midi channel is set in the last box to be 2 or any number different from the your global midi channel.
    - in your score select the stave you want to change (hint: why not cut it into the length you need the second voice to run for?) and choose your new score style.
    - enter the notes you want to enter to be on the second voice.
    - select them and change their midi channels to the number you assigned for them in your score style editor. so in this case; 2.

  • Staff Styles or Score styles?

I apologise for having to post this but the manual hasn't gotten me where I need to go yet. If I create a new project with 7 staves and the delete 4 of them I am left with 3 staves. They are coupled together so clicking on one selects all 3. I have tried create Duplicate but the coupling remains in place. Any ideas on this? I will of course RTFM again but it is not Logics' easiest editor.

Make you are clear on the difference between Score Sets (Instrument related) and Staff Styles (Region related). And yes the Logic Manual is not really helpful to point that, rather confusing.

  • My iPhoto Library files seems to be self replicating . . . help!

This is a hard dilemma to explain, but I will do my best. I recently created a new library using the free version of iPhoto Library Manager & downloaded new photos off my camera into the new library. It seemed to work fine. MY 2 active iPhoto libraries are called iPhoto library and Africa August ’08.
Then I created a third library, which is still empty. (I had some confusion creating that third library but since that may not have any bearing on the problem I am having now, I won't go into the details, especially because I didn’t take good notes, but the confusion was about where the new library should live.)
Anyway, I wanted to move some files from my primary library (called iPhoto library) into the new third, empty library, but realized that I would need to buy the $20 version of Library Manager to do it easily. I was prepared to do that, but decided to back up to my hard drive first.
Because I recently put so many new photos onto my computer, I could no longer fit three full back ups onto my lacie 250G harddrive, as I had been doing. So I erased two back-ups, leaving one back up on the Lacie. I proceeded to back up my computer and then I had two back-ups. Or so I thought . . .
When I checked carefully, I discovered that the older back up was not complete - somehow, inexplicably, it was missing my primary iPhoto Library. I would have sworn I had checked the back ups carefully, but I am human, maybe I missed it. Either way, not good!!
The back up I did last night was complete – but it was more than complete. It contained a whole new file folder that I did not create. Here is it's name: 073B7094-F3BB-4D5A-805F-493F40A7ABD7-4095-0000597ED685353C (call this folder “Thing One”)
    Inside I found 10 items:
    3 files folders -
    iPhoto Library
    Photo Booth
    YEARBOOK Library
3 misc. items (one jpeg, a few data files, and iPhotoLock.data)
Here is what I found inside my Pictures file on the back up (19 items):
2 active iPhoto libraries (called iPhoto library and Africa August ’08)
    6 File folders -
    photo booth
YEARBOOK library (just a folder, not actually a library)
    auto import
    AIM Buddy icons
    2 files of personal photos
    11 misc. items
(jpegs, psd & data files, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, iPhotoLock.data & iChat icons)
So it seems that for some reason my computer made a whole new file & replicated three file folders (iPhoto Library, Photo Booth & YEARBOOK Library) and also 3 of the misc. items from my Pictures folder.
Why would it do that?? But wait, it gets weirder still. I went back to find this new file folder on my HD (remember, so far I only saw it on the external HD). Not only did I find it, but I found two more that the computer created, called “79ECEA25-DE1C-4E51-BE8B-BD44F028387B-1440-0000213F8D9ABA99” (call this folder “Thing Two”) and “2A25C51D-CFBE-472D-81CC-AB9394E6F6AC-1433-00002111046024D3” (call this “Thing Three”)!!
“Thing Two” is identical to “Thing One” but “Thing Three” contains 15 items - 5 more items from my pictures file – four file folders (Africa August 2008, AIM Buddy Icons, Auto Import, iChat Icons) com.apple.iPhoto.plist, and (the kicker) – something that seems to be my main iPhoto library but it is only 85.6 MB big, so it can’t really be.
These new extra files (“Things one, two & three”) appear to be huge – 28, 30 & 45 GB But how can that be?? My whole HD is only 120 GB and my two active iPhoto libraries are together 45 GB! But when I ask the computer to “get info” that is what it tells me.
I would like to erase these “Things” . . . but I am afraid to until I figure out what they are, why they were created & whether erasing them will cause me to lose any data.
    Help!!
    FranArt

Oh, my gosh, TD, you hit the nail on the head! I went to the Silverkeeper site and found this:
Special note for people upgrading to Leopard:
v1.1.4 of SilverKeeper is not compatible with OS X 10.5.x, Leopard. LaCie does not recommend using SilverKeeper v1.1.4 with Leopard. A fix is being investigated.
What to do????????? This means I am not really backed up - that is bad!
Silverkeeper/LaCie recommends using Time Machine - they claim that LaCie drives are compatible with OS X 10.5.x and Time Machine but is that true of all LaCie drives? How can I find out? They also say, "You can use the System restore capability of Apple Disk Utility to make a complete disk backup." what does that mean?
I need to get these "cache files" (Things 1 2 & 3) off my computer and I need a good back up right away. What would you do?
    Thanks!!!

  • Self-replicating PDF and jpeg files in my Library Mail folder--help!

I've been to the Genius bar twice, just wiped my computer clean--and still my computer self-replicates PDF, documents, gif and jpeg files that exist on my hard drive in the Library-Mail folder every time I open the Mail program! The same ones, over and over--to the tune of about a half a gig of space every two days!
I haven't seen anything on the Internet that relates to this specific issue--and at the Apple store, they had no idea how to help me.
    HELP?
    Thank you!

    Scott (et al),
Please look in your Library folder (in your HOME folder) for a "Mail Downloads" folder. If it exists, drag it out to your Desktop, then replace it with a new folder of the same name. To be clear, you will drag the current "Mail Downloads" folder to your Desktop, then you will create a new folder in your Library folder. You will name the new folder "Mail Downloads."
If the folder does not exist in your Library folder, create it yourself. Create a new folder in your Library folder, then name it "Mail Downloads."
Try whatever is applicable to you, then test for the creation of these duplicate files in your "Mail" folder.

  • Self replicating form pages in Acrobat Pro 9 (Win XP)

Is it possible to make a single form page, with several text fields, a few drop-down menus, that will duplicate itself into a new page when a button at the bottom of the page is pushed?
If this is possible, is it also possible to have any fields, drop downs, or buttons, change their name automatically as each new page is created so that there are no conflicts of having multiple form items with the same name?
For example; Page 1 has a button, "Date1", that when pressed, will insert the current date into field "DateField1".   I press another button, a new page is created which is an exact duplicate of page 1 (with all fields blank) and now, on page 2, there is a button, "Date2", that will insert the current date in "DateField2".
If this is possible, how do I do it?
Thank you very much for any help you can proivide,

When I create a from that uses a template, I create the template and then spawn the 1st page of the form before the template and then work out the scripting for the 1st page and template and then hide the template.
Thanks, but I've already gotten past this point.  The issue I am having now is getting the javascript for the button to automatically append the page prefix to itself so that the button works on that page, not the page it was duplicated from.

  • Spontaneous self reboot deleted all my contacts

Like many other DROID 2s here, my droid likes to reboot itself often.  I'll be sitting at my desk and little R2D2 will poke his head up to say hello.  He also likes to do it when its really inappropriate, like meetings and church.  He delights in rebooting himself if I am using my droid to take notes or something else that is important and requires him to be a bit stable.  In fact, he's rebooted himself once while I was typing this.  I'm not even touching the phone.
Apparently these little pranks are not good enough because last night he decided to reboot and wipe out all my contacts.  I tried to synch from the website, but that has been ineffective.  I tried following the directions on the Backup Assistant page, but it tells me to hit the "restore" button.  My backup Assistant doesn't have a "restore" button.  There's a synch button, a dropdown menu to change the automatic synch times, and a dropdown to change my PIN.  It also says 1.0 in the top right, so I may be using an older version.
    For now, my questions are:
How can I restore my contacts?  Do I need to update backup assistant?  If so, can you provide a link?  I appear to be unable to find it in the marketplace.
I'll leave the question about the reboots for another time.  There are enough people reporting that one that I'll just read the existing threads.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Demonwolf:
We want to avoid master resets whenever possible, so I recommend the below steps to get your contacts back.
    1) Ensure your contacts were backed up using the Backup Assistant site.   If they are listed on the site, we can get them back to the phone by following the below steps. If the contacts aren't in the trash on the site or listed at all, skip to step 2. If you do see them on the site, please place a call to the number ##282778. This should force a start of the Backup Assistant app and prompt you to restore your info.
    2) See if your contacts are on the Gmail website.  Go to www.gmail.com > Log in> Click contacts. If all of your contacts are here, you can get them back on the phone. You can do this by clicking Settings> Accounts> Gmail Account> Check or Uncheck and Check Sync Contacts. This should force a communication sync with Google.
    3) If options 1 or 2 haven't resolved your issue, please go to your contacts icon> Press the menu key> Choose display options> Make sure Google is checked.
Please try those steps and let us know if any of them worked.
    Thanks,

  • Score edit:  staving problem

OK, it's a long time since I've needed to use the score edit. I have a string section; when I view it as a score both first and second violins are shown with treble and bass staves, as if they are piano parts. I cannot reduce them to a single staff. I'v looked at score styles...no success. The whole thing is driving me nuts. Why is this so difficult?!
    Thanks.

i'm good mate. currently on holiday in oz. just stealing a glance here to see how everyone is going...
you should be choosing a single stave style such as 'treble' from the default score styles menu. you click hold over the score style for the particular staff you have selected. double click to edit the score style. the rest should be self-evident.
if you are finding that 'treble' is opening with 2 staves, then that is because that has been saved with that song - so something must have been set up in the template you used. simply open the score style editor for treble, and select the stave/voice by making the little ">" into a block in the left hand column and you should be able to delete it.
if things aren't happening as you would expect them to, i would check to see the song isn't corrupt by trying it in a fresh factory autoload.
corrupt songs seems to be a very common problem these days, but you check to see whether it is the case first.
also, saving as a pdf is absolutely the thing to do. i always save to pdf (print - save as pdf in the left hand corner of the print dialogue box) before i print - ie i print from pdf rather than direct from logic. if you make a mistake with a pdf then that is far more efficient to delete and correct than throwing out reams of paper.

  • LE7:Score Layout:Global Format:Maximum Bars per Line - Line Break Bug!

    Hello
This problem occurs in Logic Express version 7.
(I am using MacOS version 10.4.2 on an eMac)
I am currently compiling and editing a large score for a big band composition consisting of 22 parts:
    Flute 1
    Flute 2
    Clarinet 1
    Clarinet 2
    Alto Sax 1
    Alto Sax 2
    Tenor Sax 1
    Tenor Sax 2
    Baritone Sax
    Trombone 1
    Trombone 2
    Trombone 3
    Trombone 4
    Trumpet 1
    Trumpet 2
    Trumpet 3
    Trumpet 4
    Guitar
    Keyboard
    Electric Bass
    Percussion 1 (Kit)
    Percussion 2 (Aux)
I am creating the score in a separate file, and I am combining parts into 1 stave each by instrument like this:
    Flute 1 & 2
    Clarinet 1 & 2
    Alto Sax 1 & 2
    Tenor Sax 1 & 2
    Baritone Sax
    Trombone 1 - 4
    Trumpet 1 - 4
    Guitar
    Keyboard (2 staves)
    Bass
    Percussion
Each instrument, with the exception of keyboard which has 2 staves, consists of one stave, making up systems of twelve staves each. By sizing down each score style to 2,
I have managed to fit 2 systems onto each page, therefore significantly reducing the amount of paper needed.
The problem comes when organising the layout of my score,
in particular, the line breaks. Using layout:global format, I have limited the maximum number of bars per line to 8, both in the page edit and normal score mode.
I am trying to divide up my score so that there are 8 bars per system. Using the white arrow tool, I am dragging bars up and down in order to achieve this.
However, when I get 30 odd bars in, I discover a system with 12 bars crammed into it - and even printing it off, it is clear that the system could benefit with less bars; the notation is squashed up together and not very easy to read.
    THIS IS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM:
So I tried using the white arrow to move the last 4 bars down onto the next system, and a bug occurs where I end up with about 20 bars on the system, oddly distorted, the first few bars of which are squashed up together at the beginning of the line, and the last bar of which is stretched far off the right hand side of the page out of view. Then the next 20 or so bars are no where to be seen (probably far off the right hand side of the page) before the system below.
If you dont know what I am talking about, I could provide a screenshot if you request.
I have tried everything to get 8 bars on that particular system; dragging the stretched bar downwards, dragging squashed bars downward, moving bars down 1 by 1, moving bars onto the system above, moving bars away from the system below (to make room for the 4 bars that I want to move from above), adding more bars and dragging them down, but none of these methods have worked. I am either stuck with 12 bars crammed onto one system and 4 bars on the next or an oddly distorted version of the system which cannot possibly be read. Even when I settle with the unsatistactory former, I encounter further problems on subsequent systems below, some systems of which are already distorted.
All I want is to have 8 bars per system, it should not be too much to ask! The layout:global format:maximum-bars-per-line calculation seems to be redundant, even when I reset the default line breaks - it just does not automatically set 8 bars per line, which it should do. Is there not an option to determine bars individually by number onto their respective lines, without having to use the white arrow graphic layout tool?
The problem is extremely frustrating, and it is preventing me from completing, presenting and handing in a score for my university music composition.
I have no other score producing software, and starting it
from scratch on paper is going to take me weeks, because it consists of 830 12/8 bars in 22 parts, and I need to get it ready by next term!
Any help would be extremely helpful and much appreciated, especially a patch or a useful way round. It could be related to memory, or hard drive space, as I have experienced similar problems in the past, where my score has been stretched off the page during a time when I have had little disk space...and this is a very large piece of music which might stretch the score capabilities of Logic.
If so, has anyone got any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Rory

    nope just cutting should work.
here are some things to try:
    1. try assigning a different score style. for the regions. duplicate and then adjust the default ones if necessary.
    2. try creating a new instrument set. in fact delete them and make a new one (use the key command: create instrument set from selected)
    3. it may be a formatting problem so check:
in global layout constant spacing (try 8 or 9) and proportional spacing (try 45 or so). then try factory defaults.
    4. try copying and pasting the midi into a brand new region and looking at the score for that.
    5. try fiddling with the layout tool drqagging bars up or down.
normally simply cutting the region of just one object is enough to force a redraw. maybe try it on all of the regions. what happens when you double click on a region?

  • Address book self-deletes contacts

Big problem: Lion´s Addressbook deletes my newly added contacts within minutes. This happened to my three or four times now. Newly added or modified contacts dissapear. They are not even in my Time-Machine-Backup though I´ve forced that app to write a backup immediatly after editing the contacts.
Yesterday I´ve switched to iOS5 and iCloud. Same here: Contacts vanish in every place (Mac, iPhone, iCloud) only minutes later. Have found 2 of them in Time-Machine but can´t bring them back (nothing happens when I hit restore). My fault was to believe that an exported Addressbook-archive would contain the data – but after moving all contacts to iCloud, that archive is completely empty!
Any suggestions? Have tried Onyx to maintain different operations, but no luck.
