SCPU(core) to disk I/O ratio

Good Day,
Question regarding CPU to disk I/o relation:
1) Initally  we had  two SAP IQ 12.7 instances  runniing on a Linux x64 Red Hat 5.5 machine  with 16 cores / 256Gb RAM
2) Now we  moved to SAP Iq 15.4 on the same macine but leaving just this one instance with same # of cores / RAM available 
This instance is heavily used  in termos of  dat load , query and reporting during teh wor day.
Regarding to  CPU to  disk I/O ratio, is it valid or  not  to assume the follwing:
If we bumped up the  number of cores, the numer of of disk I/O request will also will be increased, assuming the same worload and number of users connected?
There is an old  EMC Symmetrix storage involved here , which wasn't upgraded

With IQ 15.4, a rough sizing that I use is 25-50 MB/sec of IO needed per core.  With IQ 16 that gets increased even higher.  If you have a heavy workload, then I would assume around 50 MB/sec.  In today's disk world, a disk can sustain about 25 MB/sec of random IO, at best.  This takes us to needing about 2 disks per core on the system.  If you find that main and temp are both being used quite a bit then I would recommend having 2 disks per core per storage type (main, temp).

  • Core Audio Disk too slow or System Overload message

    Hi, I hope somebody can help me. I've seen the topics about this already posted, but my situation is a little different. I'm only playing back three tracks of recorded audio and two EXS24 sampler instruments. I have the Logic compressor on my bass track and thats it! My Disk IO meter shows no load at all as well as the audio meter. However, I'm still getting the core audio disk to slow or system overload message. I figure with a dual 2.7 G5 and 2.5 Gigs of ram I should be unstoppable. What's happening?
    By the way I'm using Logic Pro 7.1, and my sound card is a Delta 1010 from M-Audio.

  • Core Audio : Disk too slow (prepare)

    Can anyone help me. I have created a track that will not bounce
    because it always comes up with this error message: Core Audio: disk
    too slow (prepare). I cannot bounce tracks individually for the same
    reason. I have tried deleting some tracks that i dont need but it still does
    the same. I have 700 and something ram. Is this not enough. I have
    logic pro 7.1 and am using a few ultrabeats in the song. Know Any

    The drives in the rear positions are on an ATA-100 Bus, those in the front are on an ATA-66 bus. The CD is on an ATA-33 bus, and no Hard drives should be sharing the CD cable. ATA-66 and ATA-100 are plenty fast enough not to be a bottleneck, as long as you are not experiencing low-level correctable Disk Errors.
    A Disk Error will result in retries, both Hardware and Software, which often produces the data, corrected, after a delay.
    My recommendation would be to find a time when you can back up all data from the troublesome drive, and take the \[several hours] to Initialize with the "Zero all Data" option. This writes Zeroes to every data block, then does a read-after-write to check the data.
    If the Drive's error correction was required to recover the just-written zeroed data, that block is declared bad, and the drive will make a near-permanent substitution of a nearby spare block for the one found defective. This process has the effect of laundering out marginal blocks and returning the drive to "factory fresh" condition of all good blocks.

  • Core Audio disk too slow error?

    I've read most of the reports from previous versions -relating to ibook disk speed and how an external fire wire drive is the way to go, so I got one, how do i set up Garage band to record to it, i can see it on the dt, but I'm still getting the same error while recording one live basic instrument track, no effects, off a 16 track mixer (tape out signal) (live band performance)

    You create your project on it, or copy your project to it and open that copy.

  • Core Audio Disk IS Too Slow (Write) (-10002)

    This only happens when recording, not playing back
    I have added no new equipment or outboard gear

    Perhaps, my implication was that an older OS version might be more stable with your hardware, as per my particular experience.
    You don't say what audio hardware you're using. I'd suggest going to the manufacturer of whatever you have and asking them if all is kosher.
    Also, disengaging the hardware and using Logic with built in audio while playing back will help you trouble shoot. If it works okay without any hardware hooked up, you have a lede as to the potential problem.

    Pretty much cut & paste of the "990FXA-GD80 AMD 955 BE CPU Ratio Only working on one core" thread.
    I have overclocked this AMD 970 BE previously on a asus m3n72-d without issue. Always changing the multiplier to achieve the desired frequency while leaving the FSB at 200. But, after setting up everything on my new 900fxa-gd65 the CPU ratio change to 19x with a fsb of 200 only changes one core to 3.8 ghz and leaves the others at 3.5 ghz (17.5x 200).

  • Wake From Sleep Reboots New Mac Pro 2.8 GHz 8-core 10.5.2

    Add me to list of users with this problem.
    I bought NEW computer yesterday.
    Mac Pro 2.8 GHz 8-core 10.5.2
    ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
    Yesterday, I ZeroWrote the OEM Apple hard drive and Installed 10.5.1 from OEM Install disks -- ran all updaters, repaired permissions numerous times during build.
    Only 2gb OEM Apple RAM installed
    Added on (from original installers): CS3, Office 2008, Toast 8.03, Stuffit 12.01, Silverfast AI 6.5x (Epson 4990). It appeared to be waking properly during the build.
    Last night, last Software Update updater ran was ATI RADEON HD 2600 XT Firmware UPC 1.0.
    This morning, wake from sleep rebooted machine.
    Apple had me disconnect all cables, including power cable for a minute and then plug back in.
    This worked for a couple few minute sleeps, but after lunch it rebooted again waking it from sleep.

    I got my 8-core StartUp Disk deselected and have had only one auto reboot when waking from sleep.
    HOWEVER, now I have heavy vertical bands twice now when it wakes up my 30" Cinema Display:

    It had wide vertical banding, white edges in corners and edges, and white fog over entire screen that seemed burned into the screen -- it eventually corrected itself back to normal after being on over a couple hours.
    Second time, I had wide vertical banding, 6" and 3" wide with rows of white, green, blue pixels.
    I connected the 30" to the old Mac Pro -- 10.4.11 -- AND THE BANDING GRAINY SCREEN APPEARED CONNECTED TO THE OTHER MAC like it was burned in the LCD.
    So it appears the banding is in the monitor the monitor.
    The burn-in cleared itself after being on about 120 minutes.
    *It seems the new Mac Pros have some devilish issues with sleep on their Apple Cinema Displays to the point it is destroying the monitors -- or it is coincidence...*

  • Why OS X Yosemite change primary volume name (core storage)

    Hi to everyone,
    I have several Macs. I like to make fresh installs. My experience tell me that fresh installs makes everything work better.
    On my iMac, making the fresh install of OS X Yosemite don't change primary volume name (has a not HDD fusion). O my macbook pro retina (late 2013) OS X Yosemite change the primary volume name and equal to the partition name, that is, change it to a core storage disk. I could understand if it was a fusion disk, but in this case it is just an SSD of 256 GB. It is a bug of OS X Yosemite installer? If this shouldn't happen, anyone could tell how can I solve that, that is, make a fresh install on my macbook pro retina without change the primary volume name.

    Safe boot your computer.
    Turn off computer. Hold shift key. Turn on computer. Keep holding shift. Once progress bar starts moving let go. If you can then login and use your computer it is not the OS it is some other application installed on the computer that is causing the issue.

  • Move Partition from HP Disks to HC Disks

    Dear All,
    We have Exadata -V2 quarter rack with High Performance Disks. We applied EHCC's various compression methods on some of the table's partitions.
    Now we are setting up Exadata Expansion Rack - High Capacity Disks.
    Post implementation, we would be moving older partitions to new Expansion Rack wherein compressed partitions are also included.
    In this case, would there be any impact on the compression ratio as the expansion rack is having high capacity disks.
    And, moving partition method would be same as it is for non-exadata database i.e. "alter table <table_name> move partition <partition_name> tablespace <tablespace_name>"
    Please suggest.

    Correct, unless it is possible for you to use transportable tablespaces. That would most likely be preferred. If that won't work for your environment, a couple of things to keep in mind, was the compression configured at the tablespace, table, or partition level? You want to make sure your compression intentions are persisted as you move to the new tablespaces.
    And don't forget your indexes :)

  • Disk util error bootstrap transaction group:23102

    So out of know where my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012 10.10)  is having problems. Its hanging up on a lot of things like safari, lagging when I turn the volume down, and more. When I try to boot to recovery mode using option nothing shows but my hd, when I do CMD R i am able to go to disk utill. When I tried verifying disk I get these messages. If I hit repair on the top mac had drive(see pic) it just keeps telling me to repair. If I do a verify disk in the second mac hd that is under it and indented it tells me to back up my stuff and reinstall. This transaction group error changes on me many times.
    Also I have my fire fault turned off It was on but i turned it off

    When I try to Repair my Hard Disk on Disk Utility (command+R recovery mode) it shows this error:

  • Disk utility freezing

    While trying to check two Macs, a G4 dual 500 and a G5 dualcore 2.3, with installation disk os 10.4.3, the attempts were unsuccessful because the process froze when disk utility opens. I had to shut down the computers with the main switch. I tried two different installation disks of 10.4.3 on both computers and had freezes every time at the same point, when disk utility opens. The G5 had already been upgraded to 10.4.5. Why doesn't Apple supply a trouble shooting text as they did with previous systems?

    First things first, is your data backed up? If not, that's the first thing I'd do:

    Next, disconnect all third party peripherals, and only use disks which are designed to help out your Mac in question:
    For the G4/500, a retail 10.4 installer disk (black with white and gray X logo) would work.
    For the G5 dual-core, use the G5 dual-core installation disks.
    Using the wrong installer disk may not always work, especially because of:

    If you are using the right installer disk to open Disk Utility with, and Disk Utility freezes when opened from the Utilities menu, then it suggests a hardware problem on machines where Disk Utility won't open.

  • Lightroom uses PC resources inadequately (Win 7 64 bit, core i7 CPU)

    Generating standard and full sized previews for a sizeable catalogue can take hours. However, I have noticed that during the procedure the CPU utilization rarely goes above 25% (Win 7 64 bit, Core i7 960 CPU, 3.2 Ghz, 8 virtual cores), and Disk Utilization sits around 15-20% highest active time (in Win 7 Resource Monitor). So what prevents LR from speeding up? Apparently nothing but the intrinsic inefficient coding. If my observations are correct, this is a bug and needs to be addressed. Can anybody confirm?

    We have about the same rig:
    Win 7/64 Pro, Service Pack 1.
    Intel Core i7 980X at 3.33 GHz.
    ASUS Rampage 3 Extreme Board.
    Corsair Dominator 12GB, PC12800, DDR3, 1600MHz memory.
    OCZ 240GB RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express x4 SSD Raid 0, boot drive.
    WD VelociRaptor 300GB SATA-3 data drive.
    OCZ 120GB Agility 2 SSD Win cache and Lr raw cache drive.
    EVGA 768-P3-1362-TR GeForce GTX 460 Dual DVI graphics cards.
    HP LP3065, TFT, wide gamut, 2560 x 1600, 30”, main and second monitors.
    This has been used since January and Lr is fast, full size previews take less the 1/2 second each to complete, and exporting 4200 JPEG images is completed in 14 minutes.  Library to Develop switch time is a bit slow, about 2 seconds, the first time, instant thereafter for the entire session.  The spot removal tool does on occasion slow for a few seconds, but recovers completely, again for the session.  Everything else has no lag time.
    The 2560 x 1600 monitors were initially a problem, slowing everything down,  when they were configered properly, everything performed at full speed, all 12 virtual cores are now often over 80%.
    Our Win7/64 performance rating is as follows:
    Processor               7.8
    Memory                   7.8
    Graphics                 7.6
    Primary Hard Disk 7.9
    The above excellent scores were not affected by the initial problem of monitor configeration.
    If I were you, a check for the latest graphics card drivers and a check their proper configuration would be the first step.  A minimum of 8GB of RAM is recommended.  A utility check of all memory and disk I/Os is also a good idea.
    Since you did not mention any details of your setup, the above are just general suggestions.
    If Adobe's code was your culprit, this community would be the first to know, and few of us would be satisified.  Obvioulsy that is not the case.

    it seems that this bug related to i915 chip ( or intel graphic card ) is fixed in kernel 3.18rc3 mainline ( we can find this kernel package in AUR )
    there is also another and complete different bug when we use a kernel 3.17 and even 3.18 ( it's a random bug ) but with a similar effect : boot can hang ( the boot process suddenly stops ) :

    downgrading to kernel 3.16.x is the workaround
    I assume my computer is affected by one of these bugs. While I can get to the point where my window manager is loaded, everything almost immediately hangs (but doesn't freeze). Terminal windows become non-responsive and Chromium will refuse input. It's very weird. This happens with both of the 3.17 kernel updates but not in any of the 3.16 releases (including 3.16.7).
    This is on an AMD system (cpu/gpu w/ open source driver). Overall 3.17 seems rather buggy.
