Screen flickering in windows 8 and 8.1

Recently I've started to have this problem in both windows 8 and 8.1, where the screen flickers and lines and other oddities dance across the screen. It seems to happen much more in windows 8.1 than in windows 8, but it does still happen in windows 8. It seems to have started when I upgraded the OS X side of my laptop to Mavericks. The odd thing is that it doesn't exhibit the problem on the main display or a newly attached external display when at all when I plug the computer into an external display with hdmi. This makes me think that it might be some sort of a driver issue, but I am not really sure. Here is a video showing the problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ICiCFfWv8I If anyone has any ideas about how I might be able to fix this issue, or if I need to have the laptop repaired/replaced, that would be extremely helpful!
Thanks!

@pwabrahams ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums. If each driver is the same file name and same date but have different file sizes.  What you will want to do is to download each one and save it to an external memory device.
Once you have the drivers downloaded boot your system into safe mode.
Windows 8 Safe Mode
Now in safe mode uninstall the driver for your video.
When the driver is removed boot back into windows normally and install the driver.
Try all three drivers.  If all have the same issue you will need to do a repair.  For that you will need to contact HP phone support.
Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

    Satellite C55-A5182: screen flickers after windows 10 upgrade....help!!!

    Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I read your post on the HP Support Forums and I understand that you are having an issue with the Touchscreen on your HP Notebook - 15-ac020nr. You had mentioned that since your Windows 10 Upgrade, it no longer works.  Have you tried doing all updates (Windows, HP Support Assistant, BIOS)?Have you tried restarting the Notebook a couple of times?Have you tried to run the Windows Troubleshooter? Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. The HP Support Assistant will also help find a proper driver for you to use.  Updated Windows 10 drivers will become available on the HP Drivers and Downloads Page for your product. They will be released as they become available to HP. I did find a troubleshooting document for you called Touch Screen Issues. Although it does say it is for Windows 8, it will still work for Windows 10.  Please follow the provided troubleshooting steps and re-post with the results.  Have a great day!

  • When I open Mail the screen flickers random blue and gray appeared on the screen. I took a video too. Will that happen again? Is it hardware problem? This ipad2 32GB was replaced yesterday and I think it is refurbished. Are replace product refurbished?

    I got my ipad2 replaced yesterday. And this new ipad started giving me problem by crashing aps. Then I restored the ipad twice but the problem was still there. I called apple and they fixed it by doing Reset All Settings. But now I have this weird problem. When I open Mail the screen flickers random blue and gray appeared on the screen. I took a video too. Will that happen again? Is it hardware problem? This ipad2 32GB was replaced yesterday and I think it is refurbished. Are replace product refurbished?

    There is no way for anyone here to know if your replacement iPad is a refurbished unit.  Per Apple's replacement policy, replacements can be refurbished units.  If you feel the unit is not working correctly, take it back, let them check it out and if found defective, they will replace that unit.

  • Why are some jpg images scrambled when they appear in my screen saver?   The same images look fine in Preview and Finder.  Some images appear scrambled in the screen saver 'preview' window and the actual screen saver. Other jpg images look fine.

    The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos.  However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled.  What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

  • After I upgraded to yosemite my screen flickers with windows, very strange.

    So, after I upgraded to Yosemite, in spurts, there are flickers of windows at random positions around the screen.
    It doesn't seem to depend on what applications are running.  However I'm usually running Safari, so perhaps it depends on Safari.
    Let me describe what the picture below is:
    I took an iPhone video of my computer screen, used VLC and slowed down the video to (really really) slow, and then took a screen snap shot during the flicker.
    So, if you look at the weirdness, it is a ghost of the entire screen, but, obviously, not in the right place.  These fickers can be frequent, like, "bididididi (pause) bidididid (pause)," or in frequent like, "bip (wait a very long time) bip (wait a very long time, perhaps hours)."
    This never ever happened with Mountain lion.
    About my mac says:
    Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
                because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
                because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • MacOS X 10.7.5 screen flickers in black and freezes for 2 minutes

    Recently noticed a problem - in Finder, column view (this is important) if I select a pdf file (noticed only for pdf) screen flickers quickly several times in black color and the whole system freezes (except mouse cursor) for 2 minutes (I've measured with timer). After that, everything goes normally, file preview is displayed on the right side in Finder window as it is expected to be and file can be normally opened with Preview app.
    Can anyone suggest on this? Where should I start looking to for more information (any logs)?
    I have MBP late 2008 aluminium unibody with 4GB RAM, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo.

  • Screen Flickers in Windows (Bootcamp)

    Hello there !
    First of all, sorry for my english, i'm from Romania.
    I need your help :
    I have a 2008 Aluminiu Macbook - not PRO - 2.4Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Nvidia GeForce 9400m
    I recently installed Windows Vista to play some games but after 10 minutes o playing my screen starts to flicker for no reason.
    This happens in CoD MW 2, Team Fortress 2 and NFS Most Wanted.
    My first though was that Vista was the problem so i'ved installed Windows 7 but this didn't solve the problem. Even in W7 my screen flickers.
    When I play games i putt my Macbook on the desk to not overheat so i don't think the heat may be the reason but you never know.
    What's you opinion ? Please help me with some advice. I'm 17 and i'ved just changed the battery and HDD in this Mac, i can't really afford a new one. They are really expensive in Romania.
    Again, sorry for my english !
    Thanks !!

    Actually, I've just noticed that it also flickers if I tap the right spot during the BIOS bootup (gray screen when laptop first turns on). Disabling the SMS in MacOS didn't make a difference, so I'm going to assume it's hardware and get that logic board that's troubling everyone else replaced...
    Thanks for your help...

  • Internet Explorer 11 constantly causes screen flickering with Windows 8.1

    My screen is constantly flickering and sometimes tabs go blank (white) for no reason while using IE11 with Windows 8.1.  This does not happen with other browsers.  My resolution and refresh rate for my monitor are both set to recommended settings
    and my Windows and drivers are all up to date.

    Hi,
    According to your description, this problem might be related to :
    1.”Add-ons”:Have you download any add-ons like Active-X and other objects recently?
    2.The “Enhanced protected mode”.
    3.The “Accelerated graphic”.
    Solutions
    First of all ,you can open the Action center\Troubleshooting\ Programs to use the troubleshooting tool to check whether it can detect something or give us any useful diagnostic reports .
    Run “iexplore.exe –extoff “ to open  the IE with all
    the  “Add-ons” disabled ,if this problem disappears ,the problem may be caused by  the “Add-ons” ,you can open “Manage Add-ons” in the IE tools to enable the add-ons one by one to check which add-on contributes to this problem.
    Open the “Internet options”, choose the “Security” tab , disable the “Enable Protected Mode”  ,restart the IE to check whether it works.
    Internet Explorer 11 flickers and a box (Windows Installer) flashes.

    Open the “Internet options”, choose the “Advanced” tab ,tick or untick  “Use software
    rendering instead of GPU rendering” and check the result
    If these steps don`t work , please
    open the Event viewer\ Applications and services logs\ Internet
    explorer to check if we can get any error\warning information.
    Best regards

    What is the interface to the LCD?  If it is a digital link such as DVI or HDMI, I have no suggestion.
    If you are using VGA, it turns out there is no clock signal to actually clock the pixels to the screen.  The LCD has a controller that measures the time between horizontal sync pulses and recreates a clock using a phase locked loop.  Sometimes, the phase of that signal is such that the reconstructed clock edges occur too close to where the pixel data are changing.
    Most LCDs with a VGA interface allow you to change the phase using an on-screen menu.  A really good test pattern for setting the phase is a full screen "checkerboard" of black and white pixels.

  • What does OS10.5 use to screen share with Windows and Linux ?

    i have found screen sharing Mac to Mac is EASY
    but lets say i want to see the screen on my Windows XP computer
    OR my Linux Ubuntu or CentOS desktop Computers
    what do you reccomend and is there anything else i need to know
    thanks in advance

    First, I trust you have the firewalls open for the needed port(s), e.g. 5900, 5901, etc.
    Then, from what I've played with, the Leopard Screen Sharing app only connects to VNC servers that are configured for VNC Authentication (or no authentication) and that are using only Protocol 3.3.
    Depending upon the version and implementation of the VNC Server, you might have to pass startup commands like this:
    vncserver --SecurityTypes=VncAuth --Protocol3.3
    (and of course, have a VncAuth password set, e.g. with vncpasswd.)
    I'm not sure how, or if, these settings can be configured in Vino (the 'Remote Desktop' option in Gnome,) but if starting vncserver from an entry in /etc/sysconfig/vncservers, it might be like this:
    VNCSERVERS="1:username"
    VNCSERVERARGS[1]="-geometry 1420x790 -depth 24 --SecurityTypes=VncAuth --Protocol3.3"
    (and again, you'd need a vncpasswd set for the username starting the VNC server.)
    Now, only Vino does the automatic Bonjour RFB advertisement, which makes the VNC server show up in Finder (without which, you'll need to manually start Screen Sharing.)
    However, you can create the Bonjour advertisement in Linux by creating a file called /etc/avahi/service/rfb.service
    and filling it with the following text:
    <?xml version="1.0" standalone='no'?>
    <!DOCTYPE service-group SYSTEM "avahi-service.dtd">
    <service-group>
    <name replace-wildcards="yes">%h VNC Server</name>
    <service>
    <type>rfb.tcp</type>
    <port>5901</port>
    </service>
    </service-group>
    and then, doing a:
    sudo /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon restart
    In the Windows VNC Server (at least the one by RealVNC), there is an advanced button (or a Legacy tab) where you can find the option to set "Protocol 3.3" to true. And, on the security tab, make sure you have it set to "VNC Password Authentication" (configured with a password set) and NOT to "NT Logon Authentication". Unfortunately, I don't know how to set a Windows machine to make the necessary RFB service Bonjour advertisement to get it to show up in Finder. However, if you got a Bonjour/Rendezvous Proxy (e.g. http://ileech.sourceforge.net/index.php?content=RendezvousProxy-Download , for the Mac, I like the Java version, the native one is PPC.) and ran it on your Mac (or the Windows machine), you could simulate the adverstisment -- just create an proxy entry for a rfb.tcp service, pointing to port 5900 on the IP address of your Windows box.
    Finally, even once you connect to a 3rd party VNC server with the Screen Sharing app, every so often you'll get a 'no encryption' warning -- of course, because Apple doesn't talk RealVNC's encryption and vice-versa so it connects without encryption.

  • Acer S7 screen flickers during videos and when using Microsoft Office Screen is white

    Had my Acer S7-392 for about 9 months and it has a problem that i've not been able to resolve. - When on some websites or watching video's (embedded into the website like on Facebook) the picture flickers and is unwatchable. If you scroll so that a little of the video is offscreen the problem stops.- Also when using microsoft office programs the screen just goes white and I can't do anything without closing the programs via task manager. I've made sure I have all the right drivers. Intel sends me to the Acer website for the drivers and I have the most up to date of those. I have phoned microsoft and they say that it is not them and even when remote accessing the machine they cannot see a problem. I'm sure its a graphics problem as other than these two irritating issues the machine works fine. Many thanks in advance for anyones help.

    Hi, I don't own an external monitor. I can take the laptop to work and use one there. If I do that and the same problem happens what does that mean? If the problem is not repeated on the monitor what does that also mean? If I can't use a monitor what else can I do? Thanks. Tom

  • Screen Flickers when opening and closing

    Hello, just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this problem. I'm thinking I'll definitely have to get this fixed. When I open my powerbook, the screen will turn blue, and flicker with vertical bars all over the place. When I adjust the screen it does the same thing - it seems to only do it in certain spots though, but I can leave it in a dodgy position and it will stay like that - to make the problem go away I just have to move it a little bit.
    Frustrating - my warranty has expired.
    Will the whole screen need to be replaced? If so - does anyone know roughly how much that will cost?

    Norris, have you tried calling the Apple Store phone number (1-800-692-7753)?
    If that's not getting you anywhere, call Apple Support again, and this time ask for Apple Customer Relations. (I think you can also choose the Apple Customer Relations option in the automated phone system that the Apple Support number runs you through, but if not, simply ask for them.)
    Good luck with everything.

  • T61 screen flickers on Windows XP

    I've just downgraded from Windows Vista and what is really disturbing is flickering  screen (It's like low refresh rate on CRT). Me eyes hurts... I've installed the driver provided by Lenovo for nVidia Quadro NVS 140M card. I also tried the newest from nvidia site with modified .inf file. The same.
    It looks like transparent moving pattern (chessboard) when I take a closer look. My screen is 1440x900 14,1" . There was no such trouble on Linux or Windows Vista ( if I remember correctly ). However. I double checked on my Linux system, there is no such flickering. The most visible is with blue background.On Windows refresh rate is set to 60Hz and there are no other options.

    I installed much older driver ( Lenovo 6.14.11.5666 ) and IT DOES WORKS properly. No flickering or smudging.
    I think something is wrong with the current Lenovo drivers (and the nVidia) about pixel refresh timings on my 1440x900 display, so the refresh rate is screw up.
    TO LENOVO MAINTAINERS :
    The drivers need a fix for 1440x900 display and nVidia Quadro NVS 140M on WindowsXP !!! !!!
    Is anybody from staff or should I write a few words directly ?
