Screen is black.. chimes on startup, but no response on display OR external

Hi fellow apple users.
I have a 2.2ghz MBP, and today I had my MBP hooked up to an external monitor (TV), the laptop was closed while I was watching a video. I opened up the lid, unhooked the video cable, and then there was no response, the screen was black. I restarted it, it chimes up, but no response. I tried to hook it up to the external monitor again, and still nothing. Also, the keyboard doesnt seem to be working because the caps light wont go on. I tried to turn the brightness up, but nothing. Also, i reset the SMC and PRAM, still nothing.
I heard on a forum that if this is related to a faulty video card, apple replaces it up until 2 years after buying it, because it is a common manufactorers defect...is this true? Is this the case with my MBP?

It could well be the logic board, sounds like what happened when mine died. But if you have a 15-inch or 17-inch MacBook Pro built between May 2007 and September 2008, with an nVidia GeForce 8600M GT video card, then yes, it could also be the video card. The symptoms can appear quite similar.
For more information on the video card problem and Apple's replacement policy, see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
If it's the logic board that's gone, though, you'll have to pay for it yourself if you're no longer covered by Apple Care. Either way, the only way you'll find out for sure is to take it to an Apple Store or authorized service centre.

reset the ipad by holding the home button and sleep/wake button together until the ipad turns off. Ignore the slide to power off message if it comes up. Then hold the sleep/wake button for a few seconds to turn it back on. You should get the apple logo then.

Tried to touch screen to unlock my ipod touch but no response? Any solution?

First take a look at this article by clicking on the link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
You may have to restore the device to default factory setting, and either restore from backup or set up the device as new.
If, after restoring the device, and either restoring from backup or setting up as new doesn't fix your issue, then you may be experiencing a hardware issue with your touch screen and service will be needed on the device.
I hope you have been backing up to iCloud or iTunes on your pc or mac.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Windows 7 boot camp screen goes black after windows startup screen!!!!!!

A few days ago when I tried to start my MacBook Pro in windows 7 (enterprise) I encountered a completly black screen after the startup screen.
    1) Choose start in Windows 7 from boot camp menu (holding option after starting up computer)
    2) Windows start up screen would appear and finish
    3) For a very brief second my cursor pointer would appear and login screen would flash onto the screen, then the screen would go black
    BUT
I CAN boot windows 7 in safe mode
The computer is still on when screen goes black (fan still running and i can use keyboard commands to shut down the computer)
I've been searching the Internet for DAYS to no avail
PLEASE someone help me....... ive already tried the sfc /scannow and dskchk commands in the command prompt window

Win 7 Enterprise is not supported by Boot Camp, you may or may not get it to work reliably, (I would not bother to try)
Read this document then pick a supported version of Windows for your Mac.

  • TS3474 iPod screen went Black, turns on occasionally but remains black. Still can play music. Any Ideas on how to fix?

Yesterday I worked out with my iPod and a little sweat got on it but i quickly wiped it off. Then I come home and try to turn it on the following morning, and it just remains black, the iPod itself is working because iTunes is recognizing it but, the screen is black. Ocassionally the screen would flash showing that it is connected, what must I do? But this flashing isn't consistent.

It sounds like the Nano's LCD display backlight has burned out or was fried as a result of the contact with moisture. Before assuming it's a hardware issue, work through each of the 5 R's covered in this link to rule out any possibility of a software issue.

If no luck, you'll need to have your iPod either serviced or replaced by Apple or a third party company.

  • Screen turns black, computer is running, but screen stays black...

Hi Everybody, i could do with your help...
I will try to discribe the problem,.. if the screensaver comes on after 15 minutes, and i try to wake the computer, the screen turns black, like it would when turned off... you can hear the computer is on and running, but nothing on the screen, touching the mouse pad, or any button on the keyboard will not wake the computer... if i than close the lid, i can see the little white light and when i reopen the lid.. nothing.. sometimes briefly like a millisecond or so, you can see the screen on, but than goes to black again....
    Any ideas??
it does not happen when working on the computer, only when it comes out of screensaver, or if left alone for longer than 30 minutes or so.... really strange...
    Anyway, your help is appreciated!!!

    Harry,
Did this just start happening after your update to 10.6.3? There is a thread over in the OSX Snow Leopard area about the backlight not coming back on after sleep that might interest you. Here is the link ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2384628&tstart=0 ).
    Hope this helps,

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there're any software-related fixes available.
    Good luck!
There is a DIY for iPhone 3GS here, but you'll need to do some net searching to find something for iPhone 4. Also remember that this would totally void whatever you have with Apple, so....!

Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

  • My MacBook Air chimes during startup but flashes a bar at the bottom then shuts down, is this a hard drive failure or a hard ware failure? Please help I miss my laptop

First generation MacBook Air running OSX 10.6.8

    Hi,
From what you describe it's certainly a Hard Drive failure so you'll definetely need to contact HP.  Personally, considering this is the 2nd HDD in under 2 months, I say it's either bad luck ( however unlikely ) or there is another issue at play - it may be worth suggesting this to HP when you contact them.

Yu can try the suggestions here:

If so I conclude thay the washing damaged something and servie is required. Ormaybe you damaged something when you took it apart/put it back together.

  • Screen went black and won't wake up

While using my Powerbook G4, the screen went black. I can see that the power's still on- the light on the screen release button is illuminated. But I have no display and cannot wake it up from sleep. Please help!

Try press+hold the power button and see if it shuts completely off, then try booting normally. If that doesn't work, you may have to remove all power (adapter+battery) to kill it, then try restarting normally.
