Screen orientation is locked in landscape mode

Screen orientation is locked in landscape mode.

Swipe up with 4 fingers, slide to the right, and tap the orientation lock button on the left of the music controls. If this button is not present, and instead replaced with a button with a speaker icon, slide the switch above the volume controls on the right side of your iPad. If that does not work, put your iPad into DFU mode (hold down sleep/wake button for 3 seconds, in addition to the sleep/wake button, hold down the home button for 10 seconds, and then, let go of the sleep/wake button, and hold the home button for 20 seconds, or until you see the "Plug in to iTunes" screen), plug into your computer, and force restore. Then, it should be fixed. Good luck!

  • Iphone 6 won't lock into landscape mode, keep switching back to portrait mode

    Hi,
Please help me, this has driven me nut, I can't seem to lock my iphone 6 into landscape mode, it will only lock my screen when I am in portrait mode.
For example, if I open safari and turn my phone sideway, safari would turn into landscape mode, and if I want to lock my screen to keep it in landscape mode, it won't do it, as soon as I select that screen lock button, it will turn back to portrait mode and lock my screen up into portrait mode.
What should I do to keep my screen lock at landscape mode??? I have tried this with several apps and the same thing happen, like in Calculator, when I turn it sideway and try to lock it, it goes right back to portrait mode.
I restored my iPhone 6 from my iPhone 5c so just wonder if it has anything to do with that or just some bugs in iOS8???
My current display is in Standard and not Zoom display, and I even try to set it as Zoom and then reset it back to Standard to try to see if it works and it still doesn't work.
    HELP ME!!!!

I Just spent over an hour with support on this issue and apparently in iOS 8 they removed the option for the phones to lock in landscape mode. So, there is nothing wrong with your phone, unfortunately they removed a very useful feature.  Maybe they will see if enough users want it they will fix it in an update.

  • How do you turn off larger dynamic type on the iphone4 when your screen orientation is locked (vertically)?

So I have the iphone 4 with the latests update ios7.
So I went on settings > general > accessibility > larger type.
And I clicked "on" for "larger dynamic type"
Now my font is so big I can't even see apps that I have and such
I want to turn it "off" but my screen orientation is locked! (I can't move my phone horizontally) I think if I can move my phone horizontally I'll be able to see the on/off button for larger dynamic type.
I tried sliding the bottom upwards to turn off screen lock orientation but it's not on my screen because my font is set to a really big size that the "screen orientation lock button" didn't make it to the screen

Turning on Dynamic type and increasing it shold not have that effect.
Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • I have the older generation ipad and the screen orientation is locked. I don't seem to have a switch option under General. Can you help me?

Ipad orientation of screen is locked. I don't seem to have the command for switch on general systems settings.
    Any ideas?

If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it, double tap the home button and swipe to the right and look for the lock icon all the way to the left.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Orientation is locked in landscape except for home screen

iPad is locked in landscape except on the home screen. The side button is not doing anything.

    Hey Whitestar45,
Thanks for the question. The following article provides relevant information for your issue. While it speaks of iPhone, the same steps apply for iPad:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Display does not go into landscape mode
    - Remember that photos, webpages, and applications will not change viewing-orientation modes when iPhone is lying flat. Hold iPhone vertically to switch between portrait and landscape modes or vice versa.
    - Verify that rotation lock is not on.
    - To test, open the Calculator application while holding the iPhone vertically (portrait mode). The standard calculator should appear. Then rotate the iPhone to a horizontal position (landscape mode), and the scientific calculator should appear.
Note: Certain apps and features may support only one mode, landscape or portrait. For example, the Videos app plays video in landscape mode, and Reminders uses only portrait mode. Not all applications on iPhone use landscape mode.
You may also wish to configure the default action of the side switch on your iPad:

  • [Android 4.3] Unlock screen orientation *always* turns to portrait mode - why?

After booting the tablet, the unlock screen orientation is in landscape mode for some seconds but turns to portrait mode. And when screen turns off (or is turned off with the power button) the tablet wakes up in portrait mode - always. Very annoying, since I have to turn it 90°, enter my PIN, and turn it back again.
    Any help?

So here is what I've found:
    - The installed lockscreen does support landscape mode. Since it is in landscape mode after booting the tablet for some seconds.
    - Some users report that editing build.prop and set 'lockscreen.rot_override = 1' should help. Didn't help in my case
    - Finally I bought a screen rotation lock app (Rotation Control). That did the trick.

  • IPad splash screen/launch behavior broken in landscape mode for AIR 3.6?

I just updated to Air 3.6 (under FB 4.6) and I'm now seeing an issue with my app launching in landscape mode when the home button is on the left.
This is on my iPad 2 (running iOS 6.0). However, it doesn't happen on my iPad3 (running iOS5.1).
Launching my app under Air 3.6 on my iPad2 with the home button on the left the following sequence happens :
    - The splash screen will appear properly.
    - As the splash screen is going away, the app will rotate upside down and remain upside down after finishing launching.
    - I must rotate the iPad 180 degrees and then back again to get it to recognize the correct orientation.
I have some other apps that use the same project as a template and share the same launch code. An app that I have that was compiled under Air 3.4 does not exhibit this problem at all on the exact same iPad. The launch sequence works seemlessly.
I have some other apps that were compiled under Air 3.2 on the same iPad that exhibit the following behavior, which isn't as severe :
    - The splash screen will appear properly.
    - The splash screen for a brief moment flips upside down.
    - The splash screen then rights itself and the app launches the right way up as it should.
So it appears that something has changed in the way the AIR 3.6 is handling splash screens and the launching of an app.
I'm not sure if this could be related to the issue that was posted here (although it was indicated for iPod/iPhone) :
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5194883#5194883

    Thanks Zero7Eleven!
Going into FB->Project Properties->ActionScript Compiler and adding -swf-version=19 to the "Additional compiler agruments" section seems to have fixed the issue for me.
It looks like this compiler agrument was mentioned in the release notes here, which I didn't find ealier :

  • Lock in landscape mode

How do you lock the phone in landscape mode. I have the new phone but don't see that feature.I also didn't see it when I upgraded my 3GS to IOS4

You can lock in Portrait Mode only.
The Button is Hidden in The App.-switcher Funktion in iOS4.
Just double-press The Home button and scroll to the Left.

  • After current update the rotate lock locks in landscape mode..

Ive tried restarted my phone and such and doesnt seem to help. After the current update 10.3.1.1581. When i turn my rotation lock on it rotates my view in the hub or anything to landscape and locks it there instead of portrait. Quite annoying.

Turn rotation lock off, while not ideal I found that at least when the phone is held in portrait orientation the apps display in portrait, there is a knowledge base article about this, sorry I don't have the link to hand. But they are aware of the issue but no fix as yet.
Edit: here is the link http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB36744

  • (lack of) Landscape mode - Itouch (4.0.2)

    Hey,
I installed the latest software for my itouch a few days ago, but one thing I've recently noticed is that I'm unable to get into landscape mode at all. Youtube will force it, but to try and view the albums via their pictures (landscaped) or webpages etc it wont do it if I turn the itouch around.
Did I break something itself, or is this to do with the new OS I installed?
I can't say for sure if that stopped doing landscape before or after I installed the new OS >.<
I've read about the lock thing too, and looked for that, it's not locked at all (to portrait)

Make sure the orientation lock isn't on. Just double-tap the Home button, swipe to the right to see the orientation lock and iPod controls, and tap the circular arrow if it has a lock in it.
    From http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_touch_iOS4_UserGuide.pdf :
Lock the iPod touch screen in portrait orientation (iPod touch 3rd generation):
Double-click the Home button, flick the bottom of the screen from left-to-right, then tap .
The portrait orientation lock icon appears in the status bar when the screen orientation is locked.

  • Since backing up my iPad air and installing IOS 8.1.2 the screen doesn't move between landscape or portrait when I turn it. Any tips for getting it to do so?

Since backing up my iPad air and installing IOS 8.1.2 the screen only shows the portrait view and won't change to landscape view when I turn the device. Any tips for getting back both views?

If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that didn't work, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to the control center and the lock icon is in the row of icons at the top all the way to the right.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button

  • My IPad2 is stuck in landscape mode. How do I unlock it?

My IPad2 is locked in landscape mode. I've tried: 1) going to settings, and checking the "slide button for the lock", but it doesn't work (when i check it, the check stays there but when I try the slide, it still operates the audio/mute in the audio/mute mode);  2) unlocking the IPad, double-clicking the Home button, then left-swiping to find the circle arrow lock, but it isn't there.  There is a small circle-arrow by the battery indicator that shows it is locked. How do I "un-lock" the rotation so that I can use both the landscape and portrait mode??

Thanks. Actually, I tried both and, unfortunately, neither worked I ended up going to settings  , general, and reset setting option. I clicked on the reset setting  ( which allowed me to keep my data, apps) and it worked. (Wallpaper  and app placement had to be redone, but that was much less frustrating than having the "locked" rotation). I now can move my IPad and the rotation adjusts just fine. Thanks

  • Stuck on landscape mode when playing music - intermittent

Kind of a weird problem here.
Occurs intermittently, but still very very common
When listening to music for about 10 mins or more, and ipod touch 2g is placed in pocket or while lying down, the screen switches to landscape mode and displays the album art. This is normal.
However, about 75% of the time, if I were to turn on and unlock the ipod, the screen is stuck on the landscape mode, and does not rotate back.
This is anoying because i don't have the pause, rewind, ffword buttons, or the music slider. no matter what i do, shake it, reposition it, turn off and on , it will not rotate from the landscape album art.
the only way to fix it is to press HOME, and go back into MUSIC.
while this isn't the end of the world, it certainly doesn't appear to be normal behaviour. I have no problems with any rotation for any other apps. Just music, and only if its been playing for a little while (not long, ~10mins)
Any suggestions? I called apple, and they said to restore it to factory default.
obviously that is a valid suggestion, just wanted to get any input before losing all my data
    thanks
    Mike

I haven't seen it get stuck, but -- when I'm in landscape mode (I have a speaker that holds the iTouch in the landscape position), is there a way to get to playlists? The only thing that I see is the album covers. Even if I press the home button, and then press music -- it switches to the album covers and I can't select anything except the albums. Please help.
