Screen resolution when PXE boot from WDS vs Install Windows 8.1 from USB

Hi all
I own a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s, X230 Tablet, and now have my hands on a T440. All three machines have UEFI Secure Boot enabled properly, i.e. Windows boot screen shows Lenovo logo instead of Windows logo.
However, if I do a PXE boot (using Windows Deployment Services from Windows Server 2012, not R2) and boot to the same boot.wim provided on a Windows 8.1 ISO image, the boot screen resolution turns crap, and the WinPE environment runs in 640x480. Also, as opposed
to the Lenovo logo showing on the boot screen, the Windows logo shows up instead, indicating it's not doing a secure boot?
When booting from a USB stick however, using the same Windows 8.1 boot.wim (copied from ISO), the screen resolution in Windows Setup is detected correctly, and the Lenovo logo shows up.
This occurs on all three machines since MDT was upgraded to MDT 2013 or when I replaced Windows 8 boot.wim with Windows 8.1 boot.wim (as the Windows ADK 8 --> ADK 8.1).
Is there a fix for this? Do others have the same problem elsewhere?

Hi,
When boot UEFI-based computer from PXE you should take more into consideration.
For some computers, you might have to perform additional steps to make sure that Windows is installed in UEFI mode, and not in legacy BIOS-compatibility mode.
Some computers might support UEFI. However, they do not support a PXE-initiated boot when in UEFI mode.

Especially for “Pre-Deployment Considerations”
If you still cannot find a way to make it boot from UEFI mode, you should contact with manufacture to confirm if PXE-initiated boot is supported.

Applied ZCM1033 Sep11 IDU but still no NIC when PXE boot :(

I've got this notebook with Atheros AR8151 GE NIC - which was meant to use an updated driver (atl1e) included in ZENworks Imaging Driver Update for September 2011 ( ZCM10.3.3 ). I have tested it last year as usual by booting from the CD first ( as I didn't want to apply the update straight away ) - I did insmod, modprobe etc. to enable eth0 on the client and could ping the server ( and in fact used it to save / upload images ).
Now I've applied this update to the server ( replaced four files as per doco ) but DHCP fails when PXE booting on those notebooks, it does not pick up eth0. When I get to bash prompt and go through the whole insmod .. ifconfig eth0 up process manually it works ( I can ping the server ). So I guess that indicates I've got an updated driver afer all but it would not load automagically ?
I have just tried another notebook - exact same model ( same LAN controller ) but a slightly newer batch ( yeah, that happens when you buy Acer ) and PXE works on those. The only difference that I can see is LAN controller revision (?) - basically, the line when PXE starts "For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.0.2.3" as oppose to "v2.0.1.7" on those where it doesn't work ( unless I load it manually ).
So I am wondering now .. what can I do now to get "batch 1" of those to work, as obviously the driver can handle the NIC but fails to load ?

I was wondering that, too but the only firmware updates I can see are for the BIOS ( and BIOS is up to date already ). So you reckon it may be possible to update the actual LAN controller firmware ? My understanding was that would be the hardware itself that is different, so whatever firmware it comes with cannot be upgraded. The thing is the driver does load and works if I do this manually ( booted off the CD from that same ZCM IDU ) and I have used imaging that way. I just need to work out why it does not work as a part of PXE boot process in ZCM. Maybe I should try loading the driver with some parameters, whatever they might be.

Task Sequence fails on "Apply Driver Package" when PXE-booting but not with bootable media

I have an issue where my Task Sequence fails during 'Apply Driver Package' when PXE-booting but works ok when booting from CD or USB-stick. It fails withe error code 0x80070002 and when pressing F8 and checking the ipconfig there's a 169.254.x.x address.
Somehow it looses it's real ip during the process.
I'm grateful for any advice!

Please enable verbose logging for Task sequence, then upload the smsts.log to Skydrive.
0x80070002 error is too generic, which cannot be used to determine the cause.

Trying to install Windows 8.1 from an ISO, but boot camp assistant doesn't seem to recognize

I have a 2011 Macbook pro, 15", 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM. I'm wanting to install windows 8.1 using boot camp assistant, and downloaded windows 8.1 from dreamspark (Microsoft store for students). I have downloaded all of the windows support software onto a USB, and there is a folder sitting on my desktop containing the .ISO for windows 8.1. However, when i try to run boot camp assistant, it says that the installer disc could not be found, and does not give me an option to install from a selectable .ISO. Can anyone help me with this? Is it something obvious I'm missing? Thanks!

For Macs with built-in Optical drives, you will need to burn the ISO to Optical media and use the Optical drive.

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

I'm trying to install Windows 7 Professional From Authentic Discs.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 Professional From Authentic Discs. I'm using BootCamp 3.0 on my Mac. I see there is a BootCamp 3.2 for Windows 64-bit, but it downloads an .exe that doesn't run on my Mac. Question - will Bootcamp 3.0 install Windows 7 Professional or do I need to upgrade to 3.2? It seems like the 3.2 download is for a Windows based machine. How do I get it so that Bootcamp on my Mac (Macbook Pro 17" 2009) recognizes and lets me install Windows 64 Pro?

Only one small thing I can think of, so let me run this by you:
You have genuine discs, but does any of these have the word "UPGRADE" block-printed on them?
If so, BCA might be balking at this alone. These discs also have a different internal label than "full packaged product" copies. As such, Apple does not endorse their use unless upgrading a live installation.
Nevertheless, you should still be able to boot from an upgrade medium as from a full product; the difference being that the upgrade will face an additional test on the Product Key to verify that it was used on a machine that had Windows already. For now, the test cares nothing about whether the upgrade was over Vista or the same/lower tier of 7, so you can install your upgrade once without a key, and then once more entering the key you received.
That said, hold the C key with the disc inserted in your SuperDrive. snd continue holding C until you get flashed by a black screen in the act of starting Windows. Let go of said key, and press on through the install. You may also need the Mac boot menu, accessible with the Option key at startup, to get back to Windows after rebooting each of 3 times.
When Windows asks for the Product Key, don't enter it yet. Also, do not allow Windows to activate online automatically. Do nothing but set up your user account(s) at this time.
Run Setup once more, this time from within the installed Windows, and choose to upgrade. It'll take quite a bit longer, but on this run, you can enter your key. Set up the Boot Camp software next; and finally, complete activation.

You can't get there with GUID/GPT.
There are tips on making a USB flash device that is bootable.
You can set aside a small 6GB partition somewhere and put Windows 7 installer there and run it WHILE IN Windows.
Windows Vista can be upgraded in place to 7 RC.
You'll need NTFS (30-50GB).
Windows doesn't support FW for booting.
You can create a drive that has Master Boot Record.

I am getting the error:

I read up some on google, but all of them says that they have crated a partition and that is the problem, I only have the standard "Macintosh HD".
I tried to create a partition manually in disk utility but then the error message: "Partition failed with error message: Could not unmount disk."
Can anyone help me? It's driving me crazy.

This message, and threads like yours got asked daily for over two years, now it is only a couple times a week!!
Is it so hard to follow through? you were to have backup already, clones are best, then erase/format and restore.
Then partition.
Some have been able to use Disk Utility booted from OS X DVD or another drive, and repair the drive.
You have to use Boot Camp Assistant (99.9% anyway) to create and achieve a proper Windows Master Boot Record partition.

2007 MBP 10.7.2 - Boot Camp "Can't Install Windows Support Software"

For a few weeks now I've been trying to get Boot Camp going to install Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro. Whenever I go through the assistant, I always get the message "Can't install Windows Support Software becuase it is not currently available from the Software Update server".
The download bar does progress a bit as data is being downloaded, but then stops at about 15% and gives me that error message. Any ideas?

From what I've read the "Download Update" option as you install Lion only works for some MBAirs and it's a hit or miss on all others. (mostly a miss).
You might do a Search on the error you get as there are quite a few discussions on those problems.
